Children of God Love One Another | ||||
NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
1 See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. | 1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. | 1 Consider this: The Father has given us his love. He loves us so much that we are actually called God's dear children. And that's what we are. For this reason the world doesn't recognize us, and it didn't recognize him either. | 1 Behold, how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! For this cause the world doesn't know us, because it didn't know him. | 1 See what love the Father has given to us, that we should be called the children of God. For this reason the world knows us not, because it knew him not. | 2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is. | 2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. | 2 Dear friends, now we are God's children. What we will be isn't completely clear yet. We do know that when Christ appears we will be like him because we will see him as he is. | 2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and it is not yet revealed what we will be. But we know that, when he is revealed, we will be like him; for we will see him just as he is. | 2 Beloved, now are we children of God, and what we shall be has not yet been manifested; we know that if it is manifested we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. | 3 And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. | 3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. | 3 So all people who have this confidence in Christ keep themselves pure, as Christ is pure. | 3 Everyone who has this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure. | 3 And every one that has this hope in him purifies himself, even as he is pure. | 4 Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. | 4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. | 4 Those who live sinful lives are disobeying God. Sin is disobedience. | 4 Everyone who sins also commits lawlessness. Sin is lawlessness. | 4 Every one that practises sin practises also lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. | 5 You know that He appeared in order to take away sins; and in Him there is no sin. | 5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. | 5 You know that Christ appeared in order to take away our sins. He isn't sinful. | 5 You know that he was revealed to take away our sins, and in him is no sin. | 5 And ye know that he has been manifested that he might take away our sins; and in him sin is not. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
6 No one who abides in Him sins; no one who sins has seen Him or knows Him. | 6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. | 6 Those who live in Christ don't go on sinning. Those who go on sinning haven't seen or known Christ. | 6 Whoever remains in him doesn't sin. Whoever sins hasn't seen him, neither knows him. | 6 Whoever abides in him, does not sin: whoever sins, has not seen him or known him. | 7 Little children, make sure no one deceives you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous; | 7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. | 7 Dear children, don't let anyone deceive you. Whoever does what God approves of has God's approval as Christ has God's approval. | 7 Little children, let no one lead you astray. He who does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. | 7 Children, let no man lead you astray; he that practises righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. | 8 the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil. | 8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. | 8 The person who lives a sinful life belongs to the devil, because the devil has been committing sin since the beginning. The reason that the Son of God appeared was to destroy what the devil does. | 8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. To this end the Son of God was revealed, that he might destroy the works of the devil. | 8 He that practises sin is of the devil; for from the beginning the devil sins. To this end the Son of God has been manifested, that he might undo the works of the devil. | 9 No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. | 9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. | 9 Those who have been born from God don't live sinful lives. What God has said lives in them, and they can't live sinful lives. They have been born from God. | 9 Whoever is born of God doesn't commit sin, because his seed remains in him; and he can't sin, because he is born of God. | 9 Whoever has been begotten of God does not practise sin, because his seed abides in him, and he cannot sin, because he has been begotten of God. | 10 By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother. | 10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. | 10 This is the way God's children are distinguished from the devil's children. Everyone who doesn't do what is right or love other believers isn't God's child. | 10 In this the children of God are revealed, and the children of the devil. Whoever doesn't do righteousness is not of God, neither is he who doesn't love his brother. | 10 In this are manifest the children of God and the children of the devil. Whoever does not practise righteousness is not of God, and he who does not love his brother. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
11 For this is the message which you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another; | 11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. | 11 The message that you have heard from the beginning is to love each other. | 11 For this is the message which you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another; | 11 For this is the message which ye have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another: | 12 not as Cain, who was of the evil one and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because his deeds were evil, and his brother's were righteous. | 12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous. | 12 Don't be like Cain. He was a child of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did Cain murder his brother? Because the things Cain did were evil and the things his brother did had God's approval. | 12 unlike Cain, who was of the evil one, and killed his brother. Why did he kill him? Because his works were evil, and his brother's righteous. | 12 not as Cain was of the wicked one, and slew his brother; and on account of what slew he him? because his works were wicked, and those of his brother righteous. | 13 Do not be surprised, brethren, if the world hates you. | 13 Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you. | 13 Brothers and sisters, don't be surprised if the world hates you. | 13 Don't be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you. | 13 Do not wonder, brethren, if the world hate you. | 14 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death. | 14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. | 14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love other believers. The person who doesn't grow in love remains in death. | 14 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. He who doesn't love his brother remains in death. | 14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death. | 15 Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. | 15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. | 15 Everyone who hates another believer is a murderer, and you know that a murderer doesn't have eternal life. | 15 Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him. | 15 Every one that hates his brother is a murderer, and ye know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
16 We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. | 16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. | 16 We understand what love is when we realize that Christ gave his life for us. That means we must give our lives for other believers. | 16 By this we know love, because he laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. | 16 Hereby we have known love, because he has laid down his life for us; and we ought for the brethren to lay down our lives. | 17 But whoever has the world's goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? | 17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? | 17 Now, suppose a person has enough to live on and notices another believer in need. How can God's love be in that person if he doesn't bother to help the other believer? | 17 But whoever has the world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and closes his heart of compassion against him, how does the love of God remain in him? | 17 But whoso may have the world's substance, and see his brother having need, and shut up his bowels from him, how abides the love of God in him? | 18 Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth. | 18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. | 18 Dear children, we must show love through actions that are sincere, not through empty words. | 18 My little children, let's not love in word only, neither with the tongue only, but in deed and truth. | 18 Children, let us not love with word, nor with tongue, but in deed and in truth. | 19 We will know by this that we are of the truth, and will assure our heart before Him | 19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. | 19 This is how we will know that we belong to the truth and how we will be reassured in his presence. | 19 And by this we know that we are of the truth, and persuade our hearts before him, | 19 And hereby we shall know that we are of the truth, and shall persuade our hearts before him -- | 20 in whatever our heart condemns us; for God is greater than our heart and knows all things. | 20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. | 20 Whenever our conscience condemns us, we will be reassured that God is greater than our conscience and knows everything. | 20 because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. | 20 that if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart and knows all things. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; | 21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. | 21 Dear friends, if our conscience doesn't condemn us, we can boldly look to God | 21 Beloved, if our hearts don't condemn us, we have boldness toward God; | 21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, we have boldness towards God, | 22 and whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight. | 22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. | 22 and receive from him anything we ask. We receive it because we obey his commandments and do what pleases him. | 22 and whatever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight. | 22 and whatsoever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments, and practise the things which are pleasing in his sight. | 23 This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us. | 23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. | 23 This is his commandment: to believe in his Son, the one named Jesus Christ, and to love each other as he commanded us. | 23 This is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he commanded. | 23 And this is his commandment, that we believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and that we love one another, even as he has given us commandment. | 24 The one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. We know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us. | 24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. | 24 Those who obey Christ's commandments live in God, and God lives in them. We know that he lives in us because he has given us the Spirit. | 24 He who keeps his commandments remains in him, and he in him. By this we know that he remains in us, by the Spirit which he gave us. | 24 And he that keeps his commandments abides in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit which he has given to us. |
