Overcoming the World | ||||
NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
1 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him. | 1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. | 1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Messiah has been born from God. Everyone who loves the Father also loves his children. | 1 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God. Whoever loves the Father also loves the child who is born of him. | 1 Every one that believes that Jesus is the Christ is begotten of God; and every one that loves him that has begotten loves also him that is begotten of him. | 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments. | 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. | 2 We know that we love God's children when we love God by obeying his commandments. | 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments. | 2 Hereby know we that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments. | 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. | 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. | 3 To love God means that we obey his commandments. Obeying his commandments isn't difficult | 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. His commandments are not grievous. | 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments; and his commandments are not grievous. | 4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world-- our faith. | 4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. | 4 because everyone who has been born from God has won the victory over the world. Our faith is what wins the victory over the world. | 4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: your faith. | 4 For all that has been begotten of God gets the victory over the world; and this is the victory which has gotten the victory over the world, our faith. | 5 Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? | 5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? | 5 Who wins the victory over the world? Isn't it the person who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? | 5 Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? | 5 Who is he that gets the victory over the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God? | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
6 This is the One who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. | 6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. | 6 This Son of God is Jesus Christ, who came by water and blood. He didn't come with water only, but with water and with blood. The Spirit is the one who verifies this, because the Spirit is the truth. | 6 This is he who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. | 6 This is he that came by water and blood, Jesus the Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that bears witness, for the Spirit is the truth. | 7 For there are three that testify: | 7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. | 7 There are three witnesses: | 7 For there are three who testify: | 7 For they that bear witness are three: | 8 the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. | 8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. | 8 the Spirit, the water, and the blood. These three witnesses agree. | 8 the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and the three agree as one. | 8 the Spirit, and the water, and the blood; and the three agree in one. | 9 If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for the testimony of God is this, that He has testified concerning His Son. | 9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. | 9 We accept human testimony. God's testimony is greater because it is the testimony that he has given about his Son. | 9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is God's testimony which he has testified concerning his Son. | 9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater. For this is the witness of God which he has witnessed concerning his Son. | 10 The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son. | 10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. | 10 Those who believe in the Son of God have the testimony of God in them. Those who don't believe God have made God a liar. They haven't believed the testimony that God has given about his Son. | 10 He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. He who doesn't believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son. | 10 He that believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself; he that does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the witness which God has witnessed concerning his Son. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
11 And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. | 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. | 11 This is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is found in his Son. | 11 The testimony is this, that God gave to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. | 11 And this is the witness, that God has given to us eternal life; and this life is in his Son. | 12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. | 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. | 12 The person who has the Son has this life. The person who doesn't have the Son of God doesn't have this life. | 12 He who has the Son has the life. He who doesn't have God's Son doesn't have the life. | 12 He that has the Son has life: he that has not the Son of God has not life. | This Is Written That You May Know |
13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. | 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. | 13 I've written this to those who believe in the Son of God so that they will know that they have eternal life. | 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. | 13 These things have I written to you that ye may know that ye have eternal life who believe on the name of the Son of God. | 14 This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. | 14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: | 14 We are confident that God listens to us if we ask for anything that has his approval. | 14 This is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us. | 14 And this is the boldness which we have towards him, that if we ask him anything according to his will he hears us. | 15 And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him. | 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. | 15 We know that he listens to our requests. So we know that we already have what we ask him for. | 15 And if we know that he listens to us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him. | 15 And if we know that he hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
16 If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask and God will for him give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death; I do not say that he should make request for this. | 16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. | 16 If you see another believer committing a sin that doesn't lead to death, you should pray that God would give that person life. This is true for those who commit sins that don't lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I'm not telling you to pray about that. | 16 If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life for those who sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death. I don't say that he should make a request concerning this. | 16 If any one see his brother sinning a sin not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life, for those that do not sin unto death. There is a sin to death: I do not say of that that he should make a request. | 17 All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not leading to death. | 17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death. | 17 Every kind of wrongdoing is sin, yet there are sins that don't lead to death. | 17 All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not leading to death. | 17 Every unrighteousness is sin; and there is a sin not to death. | 18 We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him. | 18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. | 18 We know that those who have been born from God don't go on sinning. Rather, the Son of God protects them, and the evil one can't harm them. | 18 We know that whoever is born of God doesn't sin, but he who was born of God keeps himself, and the evil one doesn't touch him. | 18 We know that every one begotten of God does not sin, but he that has been begotten of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him. | 19 We know that we are of God, and that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. | 19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness. | 19 We know that we are from God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. | 19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. | 19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the wicked one. | 20 And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. | 20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. | 20 We know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we know the real God. We are in the one who is real, his Son Jesus Christ. This Jesus Christ is the real God and eternal life. | 20 We know that the Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding, that we know him who is true, and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. | 20 And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding that we should know him that is true; and we are in him that is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
