Solomon’s Rule Consolidated
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 Then Solomon formed a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter and brought her to the city of David until he had finished building his own house and the house of the LORD and the wall around Jerusalem.1 And Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the LORD, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.1 Solomon became the son-in-law of Pharaoh (the king of Egypt). After marrying Pharaoh's daughter, Solomon brought her to the City of David until he finished building his own house, the LORD's house, and the wall around Jerusalem.1 Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of Yahweh, and the wall of Jerusalem all around.1 And Solomon allied himself by marriage with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had ended building his own house, and the house of Jehovah, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.
2 The people were still sacrificing on the high places, because there was no house built for the name of the LORD until those days.2 Only the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no house built unto the name of the LORD, until those days.2 The people were still sacrificing at other worship sites because a temple for the name of the LORD had not yet been built.2 Only the people sacrificed in the high places, because there was no house built for the name of Yahweh until those days.2 Only, the people sacrificed on the high places; for there was no house built to the name of Jehovah, until those days.
3 Now Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of his father David, except he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.3 And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.3 Solomon loved the LORD and lived by his father David's rules. However, he still sacrificed and burned incense at these other worship sites.3 Solomon loved Yahweh, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.3 And Solomon loved Jehovah, walking in the statutes of David his father; only, he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.
4 The king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place; Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar.4 And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.4 King Solomon went to Gibeon to sacrifice because it was the most important place of worship. Solomon sacrificed 1,000 burnt offerings on that altar.4 The king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer on that altar.4 And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt-offerings did Solomon offer up upon that altar.
5 In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream at night; and God said, "Ask what you wish me to give you."5 In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.5 In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream at night. He said, "What can I give you?"5 In Gibeon Yahweh appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, "Ask what I shall give you."5 In Gibeon Jehovah appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.
Solomon’s Prayer
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 Then Solomon said, "You have shown great lovingkindness to Your servant David my father, according as he walked before You in truth and righteousness and uprightness of heart toward You; and You have reserved for him this great lovingkindness, that You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.6 And Solomon said, Thou hast showed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.6 Solomon responded, "You've shown great love to my father David, who was your servant. He lived in your presence with truth, righteousness, and commitment. And you continued to show him your great love by giving him a son to sit on his throne today.6 Solomon said, "You have shown to your servant David my father great loving kindness, according as he walked before you in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with you. You have kept for him this great loving kindness, that you have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.6 And Solomon said, Thou hast shewn unto thy servant David my father great loving-kindness, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great loving-kindness, that thou hast given him a son who sits upon his throne, as it is this day.
7 "Now, O LORD my God, You have made Your servant king in place of my father David, yet I am but a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in.7 And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.7 "LORD my God, although I'm young and inexperienced, you've made me king in place of my father David.7 Now, Yahweh my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father. I am but a little child. I don't know how to go out or come in.7 And now, Jehovah my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father; and I am but a little child: I know not to go out and to come in.
8 "Your servant is in the midst of Your people which You have chosen, a great people who are too many to be numbered or counted.8 And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.8 I'm among your people whom you have chosen. They are too numerous to count or record.8 Your servant is in the midst of your people which you have chosen, a great people, that can't be numbered nor counted for multitude.8 And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.
9 "So give Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people to discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?"9 Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?9 Give me a heart that listens so that I can judge your people and tell the difference between good and evil. After all, who can judge this great people of yours?"9 Give your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this your great people?"9 Give therefore to thy servant an understanding heart, to judge thy people, to discern between good and bad; for who is able to judge this thy numerous people?
God’s Answer
10 It was pleasing in the sight of the Lord that Solomon had asked this thing.10 And the speech pleased the LORD, that Solomon had asked this thing.10 The LORD was pleased that Solomon asked for this. 10 The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.10 And the word pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 God said to him, "Because you have asked this thing and have not asked for yourself long life, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have you asked for the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself discernment to understand justice,11 And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;11 God replied, "You've asked for this and not for a long life, or riches for yourself, or the death of your enemies. Instead, you've asked for understanding so that you can do what is right.11 God said to him, "Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked for yourself long life, neither have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice;11 And God said to him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life, neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies, but hast asked for thyself discernment to understand judgment;
12 behold, I have done according to your words. Behold, I have given you a wise and discerning heart, so that there has been no one like you before you, nor shall one like you arise after you.12 Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.12 So I'm going to do what you've asked. I'm giving you a wise and understanding heart so that there will never be anyone like you.12 behold, I have done according to your word. Behold, I have given you a wise and an understanding heart; so that there has been none like you before you, neither after you shall any arise like you.12 behold, I have done according to thy word: behold, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart, so that there hath been none like unto thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.
13 "I have also given you what you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that there will not be any among the kings like you all your days.13 And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honor: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.13 I'm also giving you what you haven't asked for-riches and honor-so that no other king will be like you as long as you live.13 I have also given you that which you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that there shall not be any among the kings like you, all your days.13 And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches and glory; so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.
14 "If you walk in My ways, keeping My statutes and commandments, as your father David walked, then I will prolong your days."14 And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.14 And if you follow me and obey my laws and commands as your father David did, then I will also give you a long life."14 If you will walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days."14 And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will prolong thy days.
15 Then Solomon awoke, and behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and offered burnt offerings and made peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants.15 And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.15 Solomon woke up and realized it had been a dream. He went to Jerusalem and stood in front of the ark of the LORD's promise. He sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings and held a banquet for all his officials.15 Solomon awoke; and behold, it was a dream. Then he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, and offered up burnt offerings, offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.15 And Solomon awoke, and behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and offered up burnt-offerings, and offered peace-offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.
Solomon Wisely Judges
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 Then two women who were harlots came to the king and stood before him.16 Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.16 A short time later two prostitutes came to the king and stood in front of him.16 Then two women who were prostitutes came to the king, and stood before him.16 Then came two women, harlots, to the king, and stood before him.
17 The one woman said, "Oh, my lord, this woman and I live in the same house; and I gave birth to a child while she was in the house.17 And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.17 One woman said to him, "Sir, this woman and I live in the same house. I gave birth [to a son] while she was with me in the house.17 The one woman said, "Oh, my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house. I delivered a child with her in the house.17 And the first woman said, Ah, my lord! I and this woman abode in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.
18 "It happened on the third day after I gave birth, that this woman also gave birth to a child, and we were together. There was no stranger with us in the house, only the two of us in the house.18 And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house.18 Two days later this woman also gave birth [to a son]. We were alone. No one else was with us. Just the two of us were in the house.18 It happened the third day after I delivered, that this woman delivered also. We were together. There was no stranger with us in the house, just us two in the house.18 And it came to pass the third day after I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also; and we were together; no stranger was with us in the house, only we two were in the house.
19 "This woman's son died in the night, because she lay on it.19 And this woman's child died in the night; because she overlaid it.19 That night this woman's son died because she rolled over on top of him.19 This woman's child died in the night, because she lay on it.19 And this woman's child died in the night; because she had lain upon it.
20 "So she arose in the middle of the night and took my son from beside me while your maidservant slept, and laid him in her bosom, and laid her dead son in my bosom.20 And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.20 So she got up during the night and took my son, who was beside me, while I was asleep. She held him in her arms. Then she laid her dead son in my arms.20 She arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while your handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.20 And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thy handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead son in my bosom.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
21 "When I rose in the morning to nurse my son, behold, he was dead; but when I looked at him carefully in the morning, behold, he was not my son, whom I had borne."21 And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear.21 When I got up in the morning to nurse my son, he was dead! I took a good look at him and realized that he wasn't my son at all!"21 When I rose in the morning to nurse my child, behold, it was dead; but when I had looked at it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, whom I bore."21 And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead; and I considered it in the morning, and behold, it was not my son, whom I bore.
22 Then the other woman said, "No! For the living one is my son, and the dead one is your son." But the first woman said, "No! For the dead one is your son, and the living one is my son." Thus they spoke before the king.22 And the other woman said, Nay; but the living is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this said, No; but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son. Thus they spake before the king.22 The other woman said, "No! My son is alive-your son is dead." The first woman kept on saying, "No! Your son is dead-my son is alive." So they argued in front of the king.22 The other woman said, "No; but the living is my son, and the dead is your son." This said, "No; but the dead is your son, and the living is my son." Thus they spoke before the king.22 And the other woman said, No, for the living is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this one said, No, but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son. Thus they spoke before the king.
23 Then the king said, "The one says, 'This is my son who is living, and your son is the dead one'; and the other says, 'No! For your son is the dead one, and my son is the living one.'"23 Then said the king, The one saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead: and the other saith, Nay; but thy son is the dead, and my son is the living.23 The king said, "This one keeps saying, 'My son is alive-your son is dead,' and that one keeps saying, 'No! Your son is dead-my son is alive.'"23 Then the king said, "The one says, 'This is my son who lives, and your son is the dead;' and the other says, 'No; but your son is the dead one, and my son is the living one.'"23 Then said the king, The one says, This that is living is my son, and thy son is the dead; and the other says, No, for thy son is the dead, and my son is the living.
24 The king said, "Get me a sword." So they brought a sword before the king.24 And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.24 So the king told his servants to bring him a sword. When they brought it,24 The king said, "Get me a sword." They brought a sword before the king.24 And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.
25 The king said, "Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one and half to the other."25 And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.25 he said, "Cut the living child in two. Give half to the one and half to the other."25 The king said, "Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other."25 And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
26 Then the woman whose child was the living one spoke to the king, for she was deeply stirred over her son and said, "Oh, my lord, give her the living child, and by no means kill him." But the other said, "He shall be neither mine nor yours; divide him!"26 Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.26 Then the woman whose son was still alive was deeply moved by her love for the child. She said to the king, "Please, sir, give her the living child. Please don't kill him!" But the other woman said, "He won't be mine or yours. Cut him [in two]."26 Then the woman whose the living child was spoke to the king, for her heart yearned over her son, and she said, "Oh, my lord, give her the living child, and in no way kill it!" But the other said, "It shall be neither mine nor yours. Divide it."26 Then spoke the woman whose was the living child to the king, for her bowels yearned over her son, and she said, Ah, my lord! give her the living child, and in no wise put it to death. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine; divide it.
27 Then the king said, "Give the first woman the living child, and by no means kill him. She is his mother."27 Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof.27 The king replied, "Give the living child to the first woman. Don't kill him. She is his mother."27 Then the king answered, "Give her the living child, and in no way kill it. She is its mother."27 And the king answered and said, Give this one the living child, and in no wise put it to death: she is its mother.
28 When all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had handed down, they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to administer justice.28 And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.28 All Israel heard about the decision the king made. They respected the king very highly, because they saw he possessed wisdom from God to do what was right.28 All Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do justice.28 And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do justice.
