The Paralytic Healed
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 When He had come back to Capernaum several days afterward, it was heard that He was at home.1 And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.1 Several days later Jesus came back to Capernaum. The report went out that he was home.1 When he entered again into Capernaum after some days, it was heard that he was in the house.1 And he entered again into Capernaum after several days, and it was reported that he was at the house;
2 And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room, not even near the door; and He was speaking the word to them.2 And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.2 Many people had gathered. There was no room left, even in front of the door. Jesus was speaking [God's] word to them.2 Immediately many were gathered together, so that there was no more room, not even around the door; and he spoke the word to them.2 and straightway many were gathered together, so that there was no longer any room, not even at the door; and he spoke the word to them.
3 And they came, bringing to Him a paralytic, carried by four men.3 And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.3 Four men came to him carrying a paralyzed man.3 Four people came, carrying a paralytic to him.3 And there come to him men bringing a paralytic, borne by four;
4 Being unable to get to Him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above Him; and when they had dug an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic was lying.4 And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.4 Since they could not bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof over the place where Jesus was. Then they lowered the cot on which the paralyzed man was lying.4 When they could not come near to him for the crowd, they removed the roof where he was. When they had broken it up, they let down the mat that the paralytic was lying on.4 and, not being able to get near to him on account of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where he was, and having dug it up they let down the couch on which the paralytic lay.
5 And Jesus seeing their faith said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven."5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man, "Friend, your sins are forgiven."5 Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven you."5 But Jesus, seeing their faith, says to the paralytic, Child, thy sins are forgiven thee.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 But some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts,6 But there was certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,6 Some scribes were sitting there. They thought,6 But there were some of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,6 But certain of the scribes were there sitting, and reasoning in their hearts,
7 "Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming; who can forgive sins but God alone?"7 Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?7 "Why does he talk this way? He's dishonoring God. Who besides God can forgive sins?"7 "Why does this man speak blasphemies like that? Who can forgive sins but God alone?"7 Why does this man thus speak? he blasphemes. Who is able to forgive sins except God alone?
8 Immediately Jesus, aware in His spirit that they were reasoning that way within themselves, said to them, "Why are you reasoning about these things in your hearts?8 And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?8 At once, Jesus knew inwardly what they were thinking. He asked them, "Why do you have these thoughts?8 Immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, said to them, "Why do you reason these things in your hearts?8 And straightway Jesus, knowing in his spirit that they are reasoning thus within themselves, said to them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?
9 "Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven'; or to say, 'Get up, and pick up your pallet and walk '?9 Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?9 Is it easier to say to this paralyzed man, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up, pick up your cot, and walk'?9 Which is easier, to tell the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven;' or to say, 'Arise, and take up your bed, and walk?'9 Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, Thy sins are forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy couch and walk?
10 "But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins "-- He said to the paralytic,10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)10 I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins." Then he said to the paralyzed man,10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins"--he said to the paralytic--10 But that ye may know that the Son of man has power on earth to forgive sins, he says to the paralytic,

11 "I say to you, get up, pick up your pallet and go home."11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.11 "I'm telling you to get up, pick up your cot, and go home!"11 "I tell you, arise, take up your mat, and go to your house."11 To thee I say, Arise, take up thy couch and go to thine house.
12 And he got up and immediately picked up the pallet and went out in the sight of everyone, so that they were all amazed and were glorifying God, saying, "We have never seen anything like this."12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.12 The man got up, immediately picked up his cot, and walked away while everyone watched. Everyone was amazed and praised God, saying, "We have never seen anything like this."12 He arose, and immediately took up the mat, and went out in front of them all; so that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, "We never saw anything like this!"12 And he rose up straightway, and, having taken up his couch, went out before them all, so that all were amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it thus.
13 And He went out again by the seashore; and all the people were coming to Him, and He was teaching them.13 And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.13 Jesus went to the seashore again. Large crowds came to him, and he taught them.13 He went out again by the seaside. All the multitude came to him, and he taught them.13 And he went out again by the sea, and all the crowd came to him, and he taught them.
Levi (Matthew) Called
14 As He passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting in the tax booth, and He said to him, "Follow Me!" And he got up and followed Him.14 And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.14 When Jesus was leaving, he saw Levi, son of Alphaeus, sitting in a tax office. Jesus said to him, "Follow me!" So Levi got up and followed him.14 As he passed by, he saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, sitting at the tax office, and he said to him, "Follow me." And he arose and followed him.14 And passing by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax-office, and says to him, Follow me. And he rose up and followed him.
15 And it happened that He was reclining at the table in his house, and many tax collectors and sinners were dining with Jesus and His disciples; for there were many of them, and they were following Him.15 And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.15 Later Jesus was having dinner at Levi's house. Many tax collectors and sinners who were followers of Jesus were eating with him and his disciples.15 It happened, that he was reclining at the table in his house, and many tax collectors and sinners sat down with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many, and they followed him.15 And it came to pass as he lay at table in his house, that many tax-gatherers and sinners lay at table with Jesus and his disciples; for they were many, and they followed him.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 When the scribes of the Pharisees saw that He was eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they said to His disciples, "Why is He eating and drinking with tax collectors and sinners?"16 And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?16 When the scribes who were Pharisees saw him eating with sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples, "Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?"16 The scribes and the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with the sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, "Why is it that he eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?"16 And the scribes and the Pharisees, seeing him eating with sinners and tax-gatherers, said to his disciples, Why is it that he eats and drinks with tax-gatherers and sinners?
17 And hearing this, Jesus said to them, "It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners."17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.17 When Jesus heard that, he said to them, "Healthy people don't need a doctor; those who are sick do. I've come to call sinners, not people who think they have God's approval."17 When Jesus heard it, he said to them, "Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."17 And Jesus having heard it says to them, They that are strong have not need of a physician, but those who are ill. I have not come to call righteous men, but sinners.
18 John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting; and they came and said to Him, "Why do John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?"18 And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?18 John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. Some people came to Jesus and said to him, "Why do John's disciples and the Pharisees' disciples fast, but your disciples don't?"18 John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting, and they came and asked him, "Why do John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples don't fast?"18 And the disciples of John and the Pharisees were fasting; and they come and say to him, Why do the disciples of John and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?
19 And Jesus said to them, "While the bridegroom is with them, the attendants of the bridegroom cannot fast, can they? So long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.19 And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.19 Jesus replied, "Can wedding guests fast while the groom is still with them? As long as they have the groom with them, they cannot fast.19 Jesus said to them, "Can the groomsmen fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they can't fast.19 And Jesus said to them, Can the sons of the bride-chamber fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast.
20 "But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day.20 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.20 But the time will come when the groom will be taken away from them. Then they will fast.20 But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then will they fast in that day.20 But days will come when the bridegroom shall have been taken away from them, and then shall they fast in that day.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
21 "No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; otherwise the patch pulls away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear results.21 No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.21 "No one patches an old coat with a new piece of cloth that will shrink. Otherwise, the new patch will shrink and rip away some of the old cloth, and the tear will become worse.21 No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, or else the patch shrinks and the new tears away from the old, and a worse hole is made.21 No one sews a patch of new cloth on an old garment: otherwise its new filling-up takes from the old stuff, and there is a worse rent.
22 "No one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost and the skins as well; but one puts new wine into fresh wineskins."22 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.22 People don't pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the wine will make the skins burst, and both the wine and the skins will be ruined. Rather, new wine is to be poured into fresh skins."22 No one puts new wine into old wineskins, or else the new wine will burst the skins, and the wine pours out, and the skins will be destroyed; but they put new wine into fresh wineskins."22 And no one puts new wine into old skins; otherwise the wine bursts the skins, and the wine is poured out, and the skins will be destroyed; but new wine is to be put into new skins.
Question of the Sabbath
23 And it happened that He was passing through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples began to make their way along while picking the heads of grain.23 And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn.23 Once on a day of worship Jesus was going through the grainfields. As the disciples walked along, they began to pick the heads of grain.23 It happened that he was going on the Sabbath day through the grain fields, and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of grain.23 And it came to pass that he went on the sabbath through the cornfields; and his disciples began to walk on, plucking the ears.
24 The Pharisees were saying to Him, "Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?"24 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?24 The Pharisees asked him, "Look! Why are your disciples doing something that is not permitted on the day of worship?"24 The Pharisees said to him, "Behold, why do they do that which is not lawful on the Sabbath day?"24 And the Pharisees said to him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath what is not lawful?
25 And He said to them, "Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions became hungry;25 And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him?25 Jesus asked them, "Haven't you ever read what David did when he and his men were in need and were hungry?25 He said to them, "Did you never read what David did, when he had need, and was hungry--he, and those who were with him?25 And he said to them, Have ye never read what David did when he had need and hungered, he and those with him,
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
26 how he entered the house of God in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the consecrated bread, which is not lawful for anyone to eat except the priests, and he also gave it to those who were with him?"26 How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?26 Haven't you ever read how he went into the house of God when Abiathar was chief priest and ate the bread of the presence? He had no right to eat those loaves. Only the priests have that right. Haven't you ever read how he also gave some of it to his men?"26 How he entered into the house of God when Abiathar was high priest, and ate the show bread, which is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and gave also to those who were with him?"26 how he entered into the house of God, in the section of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the shew-bread, which it is not lawful unless for the priests to eat, and gave even to those that were with him?
27 Jesus said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:27 Then he added, "The day of worship was made for people, not people for the day of worship.27 He said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.27 And he said to them, The sabbath was made on account of man, not man on account of the sabbath;
28 "So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath."28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.28 For this reason the Son of Man has authority over the day of worship."28 Therefore the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath."28 so that the Son of man is lord of the sabbath also.
