 In the fourth year of King Darius, the word of the LORD came to Zechariah on the fourth day of the ninth month, which is Chislev.1 And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, even in Chisleu;1 On the fourth day of the ninth month (the month of Chislev) in Darius' fourth year as king, the LORD spoke his word to Zechariah.1 It happened in the fourth year of king Darius that the word of Yahweh came to Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, the month of Chislev.1 And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of Jehovah came unto Zechariah on the fourth day of the ninth month, even in Chislev,
 Now the town of Bethel had sent Sharezer and Regemmelech and their men to seek the favor of the LORD,2 When they had sent unto the house of God Sherezer and Regemmelech, and their men, to pray before the LORD,2 Now, [the people from] Bethel sent Sharezer and Regem Melech with their men to ask the LORD for a blessing. 2 The people of Bethel sent Sharezer and Regem Melech, and their men, to entreat Yahweh's favor,2 when Bethel had sent Sherezer and Regem-melech, and his men, to supplicate Jehovah,
 speaking to the priests who belong to the house of the LORD of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, "Shall I weep in the fifth month and abstain, as I have done these many years?"3 And to speak unto the priests which were in the house of the LORD of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?3 They asked the priests from the house of the LORD of Armies as well as the prophets, "Should we mourn and fast in the fifth month as we have done for so many years?"3 and to speak to the priests of the house of Yahweh of Armies, and to the prophets, saying, "Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?"3 and to speak unto the priests that were in the house of Jehovah of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done now so many years?
 Then the word of the LORD of hosts came to me, saying,4 Then came the word of the LORD of hosts unto me, saying,4 Then the LORD of Armies spoke his word to me. He said,4 Then the word of Yahweh of Armies came to me, saying,4 And the word of Jehovah of hosts came unto me, saying,
 "Say to all the people of the land and to the priests, 'When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months these seventy years, was it actually for Me that you fasted?5 Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me?5 "Tell all the people of the land and the priests, 'When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months these past 70 years, did you really do it for me?5 "Speak to all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, 'When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and in the seventh month for these seventy years, did you at all fast to me, really to me?5 Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and in the seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye really fast unto me, even unto me?

 'When you eat and drink, do you not eat for yourselves and do you not drink for yourselves?6 And when ye did eat, and when ye did drink, did not ye eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves?6 When you ate and drank, didn't you do it to benefit yourselves?6 When you eat, and when you drink, don't you eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves?6 And when ye ate, and when ye drank, was it not you that were eating and drinking?
 Are not these the words which the LORD proclaimed by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and prosperous along with its cities around it, and the Negev and the foothills were inhabited?'"7 Should ye not hear the words which the LORD hath cried by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and the cities thereof round about her, when men inhabited the south and the plain?7 Aren't these the same words that the LORD announced through the earlier prophets, when Jerusalem and its surrounding cities were inhabited and undisturbed and the Negev and the foothills were still inhabited?'"7 Aren't these the words which Yahweh proclaimed by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and its cities around her, and the South and the lowland were inhabited?'"7 Are not these the words that Jehovah cried by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and at peace, and her cities round about her, when the south and the lowland were inhabited?
 Then the word of the LORD came to Zechariah saying,8 And the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah, saying,8 Then the LORD spoke his word to Zechariah. He said,8 The word of Yahweh came to Zechariah, saying,8 And the word of Jehovah came unto Zechariah, saying,
 "Thus has the LORD of hosts said, 'Dispense true justice and practice kindness and compassion each to his brother;9 Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother:9 "This is what the LORD of Armies says: Administer real justice, and be compassionate and kind to each other.9 "Thus has Yahweh of Armies spoken, saying, 'Execute true judgment, and show kindness and compassion every man to his brother.9 Thus speaketh Jehovah of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew loving-kindness and mercies one to another,
 and do not oppress the widow or the orphan, the stranger or the poor; and do not devise evil in your hearts against one another.'10 And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.10 Don't oppress widows, orphans, foreigners, and poor people. And don't even think of doing evil to each other.10 Don't oppress the widow, nor the fatherless, the foreigner, nor the poor; and let none of you devise evil against his brother in your heart.'10 and oppress not the widow and the fatherless, the stranger and the afflicted; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.

 "But they refused to pay attention and turned a stubborn shoulder and stopped their ears from hearing.11 But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear.11 "But people refused to pay attention. They shrugged their shoulders at me and shut their ears so that they couldn't hear.11 But they refused to listen, and turned their backs, and stopped their ears, that they might not hear.11 But they refused to hearken, and turned a rebellious shoulder, and made their ears heavy, that they should not hear.
 "They made their hearts like flint so that they could not hear the law and the words which the LORD of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets; therefore great wrath came from the LORD of hosts.12 Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts.12 They made their hearts as hard as flint so that they couldn't hear the LORD's teachings, the words that the LORD of Armies had sent by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. So the LORD of Armies became very angry.12 Yes, they made their hearts as hard as flint, lest they might hear the law, and the words which Yahweh of Armies had sent by his Spirit by the former prophets. Therefore great wrath came from Yahweh of Armies.12 And they made their heart as an adamant, that they should not hear the law, and the words that Jehovah of hosts sent by his Spirit by the hand of the former prophets: therefore was there great wrath from Jehovah of hosts.
 "And just as He called and they would not listen, so they called and I would not listen," says the LORD of hosts;13 Therefore it is come to pass, that as he cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear, saith the LORD of hosts:13 "When I called, they wouldn't listen. So now when they call, I won't listen, says the LORD of Armies.13 It has come to pass that, as he called, and they refused to listen, so they will call, and I will not listen," said Yahweh of Armies;13 And it came to pass, like as he called, and they would not hear, so they called, and I would not hear, saith Jehovah of hosts;
 "but I scattered them with a storm wind among all the nations whom they have not known. Thus the land is desolated behind them so that no one went back and forth, for they made the pleasant land desolate."14 But I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land was desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land desolate.14 I used a windstorm to scatter them among all the nations, nations they hadn't even heard of. They left behind a land so ruined that no one is able to travel through it. They have turned a pleasant land into a wasteland."14 "but I will scatter them with a whirlwind among all the nations which they have not known. Thus the land was desolate after them, so that no man passed through nor returned: for they made the pleasant land desolate."14 and I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not, and the land was desolate after them, so that no one passed through nor returned; and they laid the pleasant land desolate.
