Philistines Defeated
When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up in search of David; and David heard of it and went out against them.8 And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them.8 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king of Israel, all of them came to attack David. But David heard about it and went out to meet them.8 When the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David: and David heard of it, and went out against them.8 And the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, and all the Philistines went up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went out against them.
Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim.9 And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.9 The Philistines had come and raided the valley of Rephaim.9 Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim.9 And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
David inquired of God, saying, "Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will You give them into my hand?" Then the LORD said to him, "Go up, for I will give them into your hand."10 And David inquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.10 David asked God, "Should I attack the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?" The LORD answered him, "Attack! I will hand them over to you."10 David inquired of God, saying, "Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hand?" Yahweh said to him, "Go up; for I will deliver them into your hand."10 And David inquired of God saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines, and wilt thou give them into my hand? And Jehovah said to him, Go up; and I will give them into thy hand.

So they came up to Baal-perazim, and David defeated them there; and David said, "God has broken through my enemies by my hand, like the breakthrough of waters." Therefore they named that place Baal-perazim.11 So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim.11 So David [and his men] attacked and defeated the Philistines at Baal Perazim. David said, "Using my power like an overwhelming flood, God has overwhelmed my enemies." That is why they call that place Baal Perazim [The Lord Overwhelms].11 So they came up to Baal Perazim, and David struck them there; and David said, God has broken my enemies by my hand, like the breach of waters. Therefore they called the name of that place Baal Perazim.11 And they came up to Baal-perazim, and David smote them there; and David said, God has broken in upon mine enemies by my hand, as the breaking forth of waters. Therefore they called the name of that place Baal-perazim.
They abandoned their gods there; so David gave the order and they were burned with fire.12 And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.12 The Philistines left their gods there, so David ordered that the gods be burned.12 They left their gods there; and David gave commandment, and they were burned with fire.12 And they left their gods there; and David commanded, and they were burned with fire.
The Philistines made yet another raid in the valley.13 And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley.13 The Philistines again raided the valley.13 The Philistines yet again made a raid in the valley.13 And the Philistines yet again spread themselves in the valley.
David inquired again of God, and God said to him, "You shall not go up after them; circle around behind them and come at them in front of the balsam trees.14 Therefore David inquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.14 Once more David asked God. God answered him, "Don't go after them. Circle around, and come at them in front of the balsam trees.14 David inquired again of God; and God said to him, "You shall not go up after them. Turn away from them, and come on them over against the mulberry trees.14 And David inquired again of God; and God said to him, Go not up after them; turn round them and come upon them opposite the mulberry-trees.
"It shall be when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then you shall go out to battle, for God will have gone out before you to strike the army of the Philistines."15 And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.15 As you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then go out and fight because God has gone ahead of you to defeat the Philistine army."15 It shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then you shall go out to battle; for God has gone out before you to strike the army of the Philistines."15 And it shall be, when thou hearest the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry-trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle; for God will have gone forth before thee to smite the army of the Philistines.

David did just as God had commanded him, and they struck down the army of the Philistines from Gibeon even as far as Gezer.16 David therefore did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer.16 David did as God ordered him, and his men defeated the Philistine army from Gibeon to Gezer.16 David did as God commanded him: and they struck the army of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gezer.16 And David did as God commanded him; and they smote the army of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gezer.
Then the fame of David went out into all the lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him on all the nations.17 And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations.17 David's fame spread through all lands, and the LORD made all the nations fear him.17 The fame of David went out into all lands; and Yahweh brought the fear of him on all nations.17 And the fame of David went out into all lands; and Jehovah brought the fear of him upon all the nations.
