God’s Covenant with David
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 And it came about, when David dwelt in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, "Behold, I am dwelling in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD is under curtains."1 Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains.1 When David was living in his house, he said to the prophet Nathan, "I'm living in a house made of cedar, while the ark of the LORD's promise is inside a tent."1 It happened, when David lived in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, "Behold, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of Yahweh is under curtains."1 And it came to pass as David dwelt in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Behold, I dwell in a house of cedars, and the ark of the covenant of Jehovah under curtains.
2 Then Nathan said to David, "Do all that is in your heart, for God is with you."2 Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee.2 Nathan told David, "Do everything you have in mind, because God is with you."2 Nathan said to David, "Do all that is in your heart; for God is with you."2 And Nathan said to David, Do all that is in thy heart; for God is with thee.
3 It came about the same night that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,3 And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,3 But that same night God spoke his word to Nathan:3 It happened the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,3 And it came to pass that night that the word of God came to Nathan saying,
4 "Go and tell David My servant, 'Thus says the LORD, "You shall not build a house for Me to dwell in;4 Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in:4 "Say to David, my servant, 'This is what the LORD says: You must not build this house for me to live in.4 "Go and tell David my servant, 'Thus says Yahweh, "You shall not build me a house to dwell in;4 Go and say to David my servant, Thus saith Jehovah: Thou shalt not build me a house to dwell in;
5 for I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up Israel to this day, but I have gone from tent to tent and from one dwelling place to another.5 For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.5 I haven't lived in a house from the day I brought Israel out [of Egypt] to this day, but I've gone from tent site to tent site, moving the tent [of meeting] from one location [to another].5 for I have not lived in a house since the day that I brought up Israel, to this day, but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tent to another.5 for I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up Israel to this day; but I have been from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 "In all places where I have walked with all Israel, have I spoken a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people, saying, 'Why have you not built for Me a house of cedar?'"'6 Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedars?6 In all the places I've moved with all Israel, did I ever ask any of the judges of Israel whom I ordered to be shepherds of my people why they didn't build me a house of cedar?'6 In all places in which I have walked with all Israel, did I speak a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to be shepherd of my people, saying, 'Why have you not built me a house of cedar?'"'6 In all my going about with all Israel, did I speak a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why build ye me not a house of cedars?
7 "Now, therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, "I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be leader over My people Israel.7 Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, even from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:7 "Now this is what you will say to my servant David: 'This is what the LORD of Armies says: I took you from the pasture where you followed sheep so that you could be the leader of my people Israel.7 "Now therefore, you shall tell my servant David, 'Thus says Yahweh of Armies, "I took you from the sheep pen, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people Israel.7 And now, thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: I took thee from the pasture-grounds, from following the sheep, to be prince over my people Israel;
8 "I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I will make you a name like the name of the great ones who are in the earth.8 And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth.8 I was with you wherever you went, and I destroyed all your enemies in front of you. I will make your name like the names of the greatest people on earth.8 I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you. I will make you a name, like the name of the great ones who are in the earth.8 and I have been with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name, like unto the name of the great men that are on the earth.
9 "I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, so that they may dwell in their own place and not be moved again; and the wicked will not waste them anymore as formerly,9 Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning,9 I will make a place for my people Israel and plant them there. They will live in their own place and not be troubled anymore. The wicked will no longer frighten them as they used to do9 I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the first,9 And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and be disturbed no more; neither shall the sons of wickedness waste them any more, as formerly,
10 even from the day that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel. And I will subdue all your enemies. Moreover, I tell you that the LORD will build a house for you.10 And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee that the LORD will build thee an house.10 ever since I appointed judges to rule my people Israel. I will crush all your enemies. I even tell you that I, the LORD, will build a house for you.10 and from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel; and I will subdue all your enemies. Moreover I tell you that Yahweh will build you a house.10 and since the days that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. And I will subdue all thine enemies; and I tell thee that Jehovah will build thee a house.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 "When your days are fulfilled that you must go to be with your fathers, that I will set up one of your descendants after you, who will be of your sons; and I will establish his kingdom.11 And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.11 " 'When the time comes for you to go and be with your ancestors, I will send one of your descendants. He will be one of your sons. I will establish his kingdom.11 It shall happen, when your days are fulfilled that you must go to be with your fathers, that I will set up your seed after you, who shall be of your sons; and I will establish his kingdom.11 And it shall come to pass, when thy days are fulfilled that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.
12 "He shall build for Me a house, and I will establish his throne forever.12 He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever.12 He will build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever.12 He shall build me a house, and I will establish his throne forever.12 It is he who shall build me a house, and I will establish his throne for ever.
13 "I will be his father and he shall be My son; and I will not take My lovingkindness away from him, as I took it from him who was before you.13 I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:13 I will be his Father, and he will be my Son. And I will never stop showing him my love as I did to your predecessor.13 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. I will not take my loving kindness away from him, as I took it from him that was before you;13 I will be his father, and he shall be my son; and I will not take away my mercy from him, as I took it from him that was before thee;
14 "But I will settle him in My house and in My kingdom forever, and his throne shall be established forever."'"14 But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore.14 I will place him in my royal house forever, and his throne will be established forever.'"14 but I will settle him in my house and in my kingdom forever. His throne shall be established forever."'"14 and I will settle him in my house and in my kingdom for ever; and his throne shall be established for ever.
15 According to all these words and according to all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David.15 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.15 Nathan told David all these words and everything he had seen.15 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David.15 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak to David.
David’s Prayer in Response
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 Then David the king went in and sat before the LORD and said, "Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my house that You have brought me this far?16 And David the king came and sat before the LORD, and said, Who am I, O LORD God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?16 Then King David went into the tent and sat in front of the LORD. "Who am I, LORD God," he asked, "and why is my house so important that you have brought me this far?16 Then David the king went in, and sat before Yahweh; and he said, "Who am I, Yahweh God, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far?16 And king David went in and sat before Jehovah, and said, Who am I, Jehovah Elohim, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?
17 "This was a small thing in Your eyes, O God; but You have spoken of Your servant's house for a great while to come, and have regarded me according to the standard of a man of high degree, O LORD God.17 And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant's house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God.17 And this you consider to be a small act, God. You've spoken about the distant future of my house. LORD God, you've shown me the generation of the great man. 17 This was a small thing in your eyes, God; but you have spoken of your servant's house for a great while to come, and have respected me according to the estate of a man of high degree, Yahweh God.17 And this hath been a small thing in thy sight, O God; and thou hast spoken of thy servant's house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the rank of a man of high degree, Jehovah Elohim.
18 "What more can David still say to You concerning the honor bestowed on Your servant? For You know Your servant.18 What can David speak more to thee for the honor of thy servant? for thou knowest thy servant.18 "What more can I do for you in light of the honor [you have given] to me and since you know me so well!18 What can David say yet more to you concerning the honor which is done to your servant? For you know your servant.18 What can David say more to thee for the glory of thy servant? thou indeed knowest thy servant.
19 "O LORD, for Your servant's sake, and according to Your own heart, You have wrought all this greatness, to make known all these great things.19 O LORD, for thy servant's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this greatness, in making known all these great things.19 LORD, you've done this great thing for my sake and your own desire. You made this great thing known to me.19 Yahweh, for your servant's sake, and according to your own heart, you have worked all this greatness, to make known all these great things.19 Jehovah, for thy servant's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this greatness, to make known all these great things.
20 "O LORD, there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears.20 O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.20 "LORD, there is no one like you, and there is no other god except you, as we have heard with our own ears.20 Yahweh, there is none like you, neither is there any God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.20 Jehovah, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
21 "And what one nation in the earth is like Your people Israel, whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people, to make You a name by great and terrible things, in driving out nations from before Your people, whom You redeemed out of Egypt?21 And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?21 Who is like your people Israel? It is the one nation on earth that God came to free in order to make its people his own, to make your name known, and to do great and wonderful things for them. You forced the nations and their gods out of the way of your people, whom you freed from Egypt.21 What one nation in the earth is like your people Israel, whom God went to redeem to himself for a people, to make you a name by great and awesome things, in driving out nations from before your people, whom you redeem out of Egypt?21 And who is like thy people Israel, the one nation in the earth that God went to redeem to be a people to himself, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, which thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?
22 "For Your people Israel You made Your own people forever, and You, O LORD, became their God.22 For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, LORD, becamest their God.22 You made the people of Israel to be your people forever. And you, LORD, became their God.22 For your people Israel you made your own people forever; and you, Yahweh, became their God.22 And thy people Israel hast thou made thine own people for ever; and thou, Jehovah, art become their God.
23 "Now, O LORD, let the word that You have spoken concerning Your servant and concerning his house be established forever, and do as You have spoken.23 Therefore now, LORD, let the thing that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house be established for ever, and do as thou hast said.23 "Now, LORD, faithfully keep the promise you made to me and my house forever. Do as you promised.23 Now, Yahweh, let the word that you have spoken concerning your servant, and concerning his house, be established forever, and do as you have spoken.23 And now, Jehovah, let the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house be established for ever, and do as thou hast said.
24 "Let Your name be established and magnified forever, saying, 'The LORD of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel; and the house of David Your servant is established before You.'24 Let it even be established, that thy name may be magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and let the house of David thy servant be established before thee.24 Your name will endure and be respected forever when [people] say, 'The LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, is Israel's God.' And the house of David, your servant, will be established in your presence.24 Let your name be established and magnified forever, saying, 'Yahweh of Armies is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel. The house of David your servant is established before you.'24 Let it even be established, and let thy name be magnified for ever, saying, Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, is God to Israel; and let the house of David thy servant be established before thee.
25 "For You, O my God, have revealed to Your servant that You will build for him a house; therefore Your servant has found courage to pray before You.25 For thou, O my God, hast told thy servant that thou wilt build him an house: therefore thy servant hath found in his heart to pray before thee.25 You, my God, have revealed especially to me that you will build me a house. That is why I have found [the courage] to pray to you.25 For you, my God, have revealed to your servant that you will build him a house. Therefore your servant has found courage to pray before you.25 For thou, my God, hast revealed to thy servant that thou wilt build him a house; therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray before thee.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
26 "Now, O LORD, You are God, and have promised this good thing to Your servant.26 And now, LORD, thou art God, and hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:26 "Almighty LORD, you are God. You promised me this good thing.26 Now, Yahweh, you are God, and have promised this good thing to your servant.26 And now, Jehovah, thou art that God, and hast promised this goodness unto thy servant;
27 "And now it has pleased You to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue forever before You; for You, O LORD, have blessed, and it is blessed forever."27 Now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou blessest, O LORD, and it shall be blessed for ever.27 Now, you were pleased to bless my house so that it may continue in your presence forever. Indeed, you, LORD, have blessed it. It will be blessed forever."27 Now it has pleased you to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever before you; for you, Yahweh, have blessed, and it is blessed forever."27 and now, let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever; for thou, Jehovah, hast blessed it, and it shall be blessed for ever.
