Pauls Reliance upon the Spirit | ||||
NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
1 And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God. | 1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. | 1 Brothers and sisters, when I came to you, I didn't speak about God's mystery as if it were some kind of brilliant message or wisdom. | 1 When I came to you, brothers, I didn't come with excellence of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God. | 1 And I, when I came to you, brethren, came not in excellency of word, or wisdom, announcing to you the testimony of God. | 2 For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. | 2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. | 2 While I was with you, I decided to deal with only one subject-Jesus Christ, who was crucified. | 2 For I determined not to know anything among you, except Jesus Christ, and him crucified. | 2 For I did not judge it well to know anything among you save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. | 3 I was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling, | 3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. | 3 When I came to you, I was weak. I was afraid and very nervous. | 3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. | 3 And I was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling; | 4 and my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, | 4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: | 4 I didn't speak my message with persuasive intellectual arguments. I spoke my message with a show of spiritual power | 4 My speech and my preaching were not in persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, | 4 and my word and my preaching, not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power; | 5 so that your faith would not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God. | 5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. | 5 so that your faith would not be based on human wisdom but on God's power. | 5 that your faith wouldn't stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. | 5 that your faith might not stand in men's wisdom, but in God's power. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
6 Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom, however, not of this age nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing away; | 6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: | 6 However, we do use wisdom to speak to those who are mature. It is a wisdom that doesn't belong to this world or to the rulers of this world who are in power today and gone tomorrow. | 6 We speak wisdom, however, among those who are full grown; yet a wisdom not of this world, nor of the rulers of this world, who are coming to nothing. | 6 But we speak wisdom among the perfect; but wisdom not of this world, nor of the rulers of this world, who come to nought. | 7 but we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory; | 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: | 7 We speak about the mystery of God's wisdom. It is a wisdom that has been hidden, which God had planned for our glory before the world began. | 7 But we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the wisdom that has been hidden, which God foreordained before the worlds for our glory, | 7 But we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, that hidden wisdom which God had predetermined before the ages for our glory: | 8 the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it they would not have crucified the Lord of glory; | 8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. | 8 Not one of the rulers of this world has known it. If they had, they wouldn't have crucified the Lord of glory. | 8 which none of the rulers of this world has known. For had they known it, they wouldn't have crucified the Lord of glory. | 8 which none of the princes of this age knew, (for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory;) | 9 but just as it is written, "THINGS WHICH EYE HAS NOT SEEN AND EAR HAS NOT HEARD, AND which HAVE NOT ENTERED THE HEART OF MAN, ALL THAT GOD HAS PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM." | 9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. | 9 But as Scripture says: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love him." | 9 But as it is written, "Things which an eye didn't see, and an ear didn't hear, which didn't enter into the heart of man, these God has prepared for those who love him." | 9 but according as it is written, Things which eye has not seen, and ear not heard, and which have not come into man's heart, which God has prepared for them that love him, | 10 For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. | 10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. | 10 God has revealed those things to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches everything, especially the deep things of God. | 10 But to us, God revealed them through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. | 10 but God has revealed to us by his Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. | 11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. | 11 After all, who knows everything about a person except that person's own spirit? In the same way, no one has known everything about God except God's Spirit. | 11 For who among men knows the things of a man, except the spirit of the man, which is in him? Even so, no one knows the things of God, except God's Spirit. | 11 For who of men hath known the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? thus also the things of God knows no one except the Spirit of God. | 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, | 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. | 12 Now, we didn't receive the spirit that belongs to the world. Instead, we received the Spirit who comes from God so that we could know the things which God has freely given us. | 12 But we received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is from God, that we might know the things that were freely given to us by God. | 12 But we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God, that we may know the things which have been freely given to us of God: | 13 which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. | 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. | 13 We don't speak about these things using teachings that are based on intellectual arguments like people do. Instead, we use the Spirit's teachings. We explain spiritual things to those who have the Spirit. | 13 Which things also we speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual things. | 13 which also we speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, communicating spiritual things by spiritual means. | 14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. | 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. | 14 A person who isn't spiritual doesn't accept the teachings of God's Spirit. He thinks they're nonsense. He can't understand them because a person must be spiritual to evaluate them. | 14 Now the natural man doesn't receive the things of God's Spirit, for they are foolishness to him, and he can't know them, because they are spiritually discerned. | 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him; and he cannot know them because they are spiritually discerned; | 15 But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one. | 15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. | 15 Spiritual people evaluate everything but are subject to no one's evaluation. | 15 But he who is spiritual discerns all things, and he himself is judged by no one. | 15 but the spiritual discerns all things, and he is discerned of no one. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
16 For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE WILL INSTRUCT HIM? But we have the mind of Christ. | 16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. | 16 "Who has known the mind of the Lord so that he can teach him?" However, we have the mind of Christ. | 16 "For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct him?" But we have Christ's mind. | 16 For who has known the mind of the Lord, who shall instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. |
