The Prophetic Call to Samuel
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the LORD before Eli. And word from the LORD was rare in those days, visions were infrequent.1 And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision.1 The boy Samuel was serving the LORD under Eli. In those days a prophecy from the LORD was rare; visions were infrequent.1 The child Samuel ministered to Yahweh before Eli. The word of Yahweh was precious in those days; there was no frequent vision.1 And the boy Samuel ministered to Jehovah before Eli. And the word of Jehovah was rare in those days; a vision was not frequent.
2 It happened at that time as Eli was lying down in his place (now his eyesight had begun to grow dim and he could not see well),2 And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;2 One night Eli was lying down in his room. His eyesight had begun to fail so that he couldn't see well.2 It happened at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place (now his eyes had begun to grow dim, so that he could not see),2 And it came to pass at that time, when Eli lay in his place (now his eyes began to grow dim, he could not see),
3 and the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the LORD where the ark of God was,3 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;3 The lamp in God's temple hadn't gone out yet, and Samuel was asleep in the temple of the LORD where the ark of God was kept. 3 and the lamp of God hadn't yet gone out, and Samuel had laid down [to sleep], in the temple of Yahweh, where the ark of God was;3 and the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel lay in the temple of Jehovah, where the ark of God was,
4 that the LORD called Samuel; and he said, "Here I am."4 That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.4 Then the LORD called Samuel. "Here I am," Samuel responded.4 that Yahweh called Samuel; and he said, "Here I am."4 that Jehovah called to Samuel. And he said, Here am I.
5 Then he ran to Eli and said, "Here I am, for you called me." But he said, "I did not call, lie down again." So he went and lay down.5 And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.5 He ran to Eli and said, "Here I am. You called me." "I didn't call [you]," Eli replied. "Go back to bed." So Samuel went back and lay down.5 He ran to Eli, and said, "Here I am; for you called me." He said, "I didn't call; lie down again." He went and lay down.5 And he ran to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I did not call: lie down again. And he went and lay down.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 The LORD called yet again, "Samuel!" So Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, "Here I am, for you called me." But he answered, "I did not call, my son, lie down again."6 And the LORD called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.6 The LORD called Samuel again. Samuel got up, went to Eli, and said, "Here I am. You called me." "I didn't call [you], son," he responded. "Go back to bed."6 Yahweh called yet again, "Samuel!" Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, "Here I am; for you called me." He answered, "I didn't call, my son; lie down again."6 And Jehovah called again, Samuel! And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I did not call, my son: lie down again.
7 Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, nor had the word of the LORD yet been revealed to him.7 Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him.7 Samuel had no experience with the LORD, because the word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him.7 Now Samuel didn't yet know Yahweh, neither was the word of Yahweh yet revealed to him.7 Now Samuel did not yet know Jehovah, neither had the word of Jehovah yet been revealed to him.
8 So the LORD called Samuel again for the third time. And he arose and went to Eli and said, "Here I am, for you called me." Then Eli discerned that the LORD was calling the boy.8 And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child.8 The LORD called Samuel a third time. Samuel got up, went to Eli, and said, "Here I am. You called me." Then Eli realized that the LORD was calling the boy.8 Yahweh called Samuel again the third time. He arose and went to Eli, and said, "Here I am; for you called me." Eli perceived that Yahweh had called the child.8 And Jehovah called again the third time, Samuel! And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And Eli perceived that Jehovah was calling the boy.
9 And Eli said to Samuel, "Go lie down, and it shall be if He calls you, that you shall say, 'Speak, LORD, for Your servant is listening.'" So Samuel went and lay down in his place.9 Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.9 "Go, lie down," Eli told Samuel. "When he calls you, say, 'Speak, LORD. I'm listening.' " So Samuel went and lay down in his room.9 Therefore Eli said to Samuel, "Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he calls you, that you shall say, 'Speak, Yahweh; for your servant hears.'" So Samuel went and lay down in his place.9 And Eli said to Samuel, Go, lie down; and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, Jehovah, for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10 Then the LORD came and stood and called as at other times, "Samuel! Samuel!" And Samuel said, "Speak, for Your servant is listening."10 And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.10 The LORD came and stood there. He called as he had called the other times: "Samuel! Samuel!" And Samuel replied, "Speak. I'm listening."10 Yahweh came, and stood, and called as at other times, "Samuel! Samuel!" Then Samuel said, "Speak; for your servant hears."10 And Jehovah came, and stood, and called as at the other times, Samuel, Samuel! And Samuel said, Speak, for thy servant heareth.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 The LORD said to Samuel, "Behold, I am about to do a thing in Israel at which both ears of everyone who hears it will tingle.11 And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.11 Then the LORD said to Samuel, "I am going to do something in Israel that will make the ears of everyone who hears it ring.11 Yahweh said to Samuel, "Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of everyone who hears it shall tingle.11 And Jehovah said to Samuel, Behold, I do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.
12 "In that day I will carry out against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning to end.12 In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.12 On that day I am going to do to Eli and his family everything I said from beginning to end.12 In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from the beginning even to the end.12 In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house; I will begin and make an end.
13 "For I have told him that I am about to judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons brought a curse on themselves and he did not rebuke them.13 For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.13 I told him that I would hand down a permanent judgment against his household because he knew about his sons' sin-that they were cursing God-but he didn't try to stop them.13 For I have told him that I will judge his house forever, for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons brought a curse on themselves, and he didn't restrain them.13 For I have declared to him that I will judge his house for ever, for the iniquity which he hath known: because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.
14 "Therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be atoned for by sacrifice or offering forever."14 And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.14 That is why I have taken an oath concerning Eli's family line: No offering or sacrifice will ever [be able to] make peace for the sins that Eli's family committed."14 Therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be removed with sacrifice nor offering forever."14 And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be expiated with sacrifice or oblation for ever.
15 So Samuel lay down until morning. Then he opened the doors of the house of the LORD. But Samuel was afraid to tell the vision to Eli.15 And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel feared to show Eli the vision.15 Samuel remained in bed until morning. Then he opened the doors of the LORD's house. But Samuel was afraid to tell Eli about the vision.15 Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of Yahweh. Samuel feared to show Eli the vision.15 And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of Jehovah. And Samuel feared to declare the vision to Eli.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 Then Eli called Samuel and said, "Samuel, my son." And he said, "Here I am."16 Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I.16 Then Eli called Samuel. "Samuel, my son!" he said. "Here I am," he responded.16 Then Eli called Samuel, and said, "Samuel, my son!" He said, "Here I am."16 And Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he said, Here am I.
17 He said, "What is the word that He spoke to you? Please do not hide it from me. May God do so to you, and more also, if you hide anything from me of all the words that He spoke to you."17 And he said, What is the thing that the LORD hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee.17 "What did the LORD tell you?" he asked. "Please don't hide anything from me. May God strike you dead if you hide anything he told you from me."17 He said, "What is the thing that [Yahweh] has spoken to you? Please don't hide it from me. God do so to you, and more also, if you hide anything from me of all the things that he spoke to you."17 And he said, What is the word that he has spoken to thee? I pray thee, keep it not back from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou keep back anything from me of all the word that he spoke to thee.
18 So Samuel told him everything and hid nothing from him. And he said, "It is the LORD; let Him do what seems good to Him."18 And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do what seemeth him good.18 So Samuel told Eli everything. Eli replied, "He is the LORD. May he do what he thinks is right."18 Samuel told him every bit, and hid nothing from him. He said, "It is Yahweh. Let him do what seems good to him."18 And Samuel told him all the words, and kept nothing back from him. And he said, It is Jehovah: let him do what is good in his sight.
19 Thus Samuel grew and the LORD was with him and let none of his words fail.19 And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.19 Samuel grew up. The LORD was with him and didn't let any of his words go unfulfilled.19 Samuel grew, and Yahweh was with him, and let none of his words fall to the ground.19 And Samuel grew, and Jehovah was with him, and let none of his words fall to the ground.
20 All Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was confirmed as a prophet of the LORD.20 And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the LORD.20 All Israel from Dan to Beersheba knew Samuel was the LORD's appointed prophet.20 All Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of Yahweh.20 And all Israel, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, knew that Samuel was established a prophet of Jehovah.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
21 And the LORD appeared again at Shiloh, because the LORD revealed Himself to Samuel at Shiloh by the word of the LORD.21 And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.21 The LORD continued to appear in Shiloh, since the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh through the word of the LORD. And Samuel spoke to all Israel. 21 Yahweh appeared again in Shiloh; for Yahweh revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of Yahweh.21 And Jehovah appeared again at Shiloh; for Jehovah revealed himself to Samuel at Shiloh by the word of Jehovah.
