The Prophet Azariah Warns Asa
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 Now the Spirit of God came on Azariah the son of Oded,1 And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded:1 God's Spirit came to Azariah, son of Oded.1 The Spirit of God came on Azariah the son of Oded:1 And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded.
2 and he went out to meet Asa and said to him, "Listen to me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin: the LORD is with you when you are with Him. And if you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.2 And he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; The LORD is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.2 Azariah went to Asa and said to him, "Listen to me, Asa and all you men from Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is with you when you are with him. If you will dedicate your lives to serving him, he will accept you. But if you abandon him, he will abandon you.2 and he went out to meet Asa, and said to him, "Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin! Yahweh is with you, while you are with him; and if you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.2 And he went out to meet Asa, and said to him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin: Jehovah is with you while ye are with him; and if ye seek him he will be found of you, but if ye forsake him he will forsake you.
3 "For many days Israel was without the true God and without a teaching priest and without law.3 Now for a long season Israel hath been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law.3 For a long time Israel was without the true God, without a priest who taught [correctly], and without Moses' Teachings.3 Now for a long time Israel was without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law.3 Now for a long while Israel was without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law;
4 "But in their distress they turned to the LORD God of Israel, and they sought Him, and He let them find Him.4 But when they in their trouble did turn unto the LORD God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them.4 But when they were in trouble, they turned to the LORD God of Israel. When they searched for him, he let them find him.4 But when in their distress they turned to Yahweh, the God of Israel, and sought him, he was found by them.4 but in their trouble they turned to Jehovah the God of Israel, and sought him, and he was found of them.
5 "In those times there was no peace to him who went out or to him who came in, for many disturbances afflicted all the inhabitants of the lands.5 And in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that came in, but great vexations were upon all the inhabitants of the countries.5 At those times no one could come and go in peace, because everyone living in the land had a lot of turmoil.5 In those times there was no peace to him who went out, nor to him who came in; but great troubles were on all the inhabitants of the lands.5 And in those times there was no peace to him that went out nor to him that came in, but great disturbances were amongst all the inhabitants of the countries.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 "Nation was crushed by nation, and city by city, for God troubled them with every kind of distress.6 And nation was destroyed of nation, and city of city: for God did vex them with all adversity.6 One nation crushed another nation; one city crushed another. God had tormented them with every kind of trouble.6 They were broken in pieces, nation against nation, and city against city; for God troubled them with all adversity.6 And nation was broken against nation, and city against city; for God disturbed them with all manner of distress.
7 "But you, be strong and do not lose courage, for there is reward for your work."7 Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.7 But you must remain strong and not become discouraged. Your actions will be rewarded."7 But you be strong, and don't let your hands be slack; for your work shall be rewarded."7 But as for you, be firm and let not your hands be weak; for there is a reward for your deeds.
Asa’s Reforms
8 Now when Asa heard these words and the prophecy which Azariah the son of Oded the prophet spoke, he took courage and removed the abominable idols from all the land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities which he had captured in the hill country of Ephraim. He then restored the altar of the LORD which was in front of the porch of the LORD.8 And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of the LORD, that was before the porch of the LORD.8 When Asa heard the prophet Oded's words of prophecy, he was encouraged and put away the detestable idols from all of Judah, Benjamin, and the cities he had captured in the mountains of Ephraim. He also repaired the LORD's altar in front of the LORD's entrance hall.8 When Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominations out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from the hill country of Ephraim; and he renewed the altar of Yahweh, that was before the porch of Yahweh.8 And when Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominations out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities that he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of Jehovah, that was before the porch of Jehovah.
9 He gathered all Judah and Benjamin and those from Ephraim, Manasseh and Simeon who resided with them, for many defected to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.9 And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and the strangers with them out of Ephraim and Manasseh, and out of Simeon: for they fell to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.9 Then Asa gathered all the people from Judah and Benjamin and the foreigners who had come from Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon. (Many of them had come to him from Israel when they saw that Asa's God, the LORD, was with him.)9 He gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and those who lived with them out of Ephraim and Manasseh, and out of Simeon: for they fell to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that Yahweh his God was with him.9 And he assembled all Judah and Benjamin, and the strangers with them out of Ephraim and Manasseh, and out of Simeon; for they fell away to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that Jehovah his God was with him.
10 So they assembled at Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa's reign.10 So they gathered themselves together at Jerusalem in the third month, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.10 In the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa's reign, they gathered in Jerusalem.10 So they gathered themselves together at Jerusalem in the third month, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.10 And they assembled themselves at Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 They sacrificed to the LORD that day 700 oxen and 7,000 sheep from the spoil they had brought.11 And they offered unto the LORD the same time, of the spoil which they had brought, seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep.11 On that day they sacrificed to the LORD a part of the loot they had brought with them: 700 cattle and 7,000 sheep.11 They sacrificed to Yahweh in that day, of the spoil which they had brought, seven hundred head of cattle and seven thousand sheep.11 And they sacrificed to Jehovah in that day, of the spoil that they had brought, seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep.
12 They entered into the covenant to seek the LORD God of their fathers with all their heart and soul;12 And they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul;12 They made an agreement with one another to dedicate their lives to serving the LORD God of their ancestors with all their heart and soul.12 They entered into the covenant to seek Yahweh, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and with all their soul;12 And they entered into a covenant to seek Jehovah the God of their fathers, with all their heart, and with all their soul,
13 and whoever would not seek the LORD God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, man or woman.13 That whosoever would not seek the LORD God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.13 All people (young or old, male or female) who refused to dedicate their lives to the LORD God of Israel were to be killed.13 and that whoever would not seek Yahweh, the God of Israel, should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.13 and that whoever would not seek Jehovah the God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.
14 Moreover, they made an oath to the LORD with a loud voice, with shouting, with trumpets and with horns.14 And they sware unto the LORD with a loud voice, and with shouting, and with trumpets, and with cornets.14 Asa and the people swore their oath to the LORD with shouts, singing, and the blowing of trumpets and rams' horns.14 They swore to Yahweh with a loud voice, and with shouting, and with trumpets, and with cornets.14 And they swore to Jehovah with a loud voice, and with shouting, and with trumpets, and with cornets.
15 All Judah rejoiced concerning the oath, for they had sworn with their whole heart and had sought Him earnestly, and He let them find Him. So the LORD gave them rest on every side.15 And all Judah rejoiced at the oath: for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and the LORD gave them rest round about.15 All the people of Judah were overjoyed because of the oath, since they took the oath wholeheartedly. They took great pleasure in looking for the LORD, and he let them find him. So the LORD surrounded them with peace.15 All Judah rejoiced at the oath; for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and Yahweh gave them rest all around.15 And all Judah rejoiced at the oath; for they took the oath with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them. And Jehovah gave them rest round about.

16 He also removed Maacah, the mother of King Asa, from the position of queen mother, because she had made a horrid image as an Asherah, and Asa cut down her horrid image, crushed it and burned it at the brook Kidron.16 And also concerning Maachah the mother of Asa the king, he removed her from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove: and Asa cut down her idol, and stamped it, and burnt it at the brook Kidron.16 King Asa also removed his grandmother Maacah from the position of queen mother because she made a statue of the repulsive goddess Asherah. Asa cut the statue down, crushed it, and burned it in the Kidron Valley.16 Also Maacah, the mother of Asa the king, he removed from being queen, because she had made an abominable image for an Asherah; and Asa cut down her image, and made dust of it, and burnt it at the brook Kidron.16 And also Maachah, the mother of Asa the king, he removed from being queen, because she had made an idol for the Asherah; and Asa cut down her idol, and stamped it, and burned it in the valley Kidron.
17 But the high places were not removed from Israel; nevertheless Asa's heart was blameless all his days.17 But the high places were not taken away out of Israel: nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfect all his days.17 Although the illegal worship sites in Israel were not taken down, Asa remained committed [to the LORD] his entire life.17 But the high places were not taken away out of Israel: nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfect all his days.17 But the high places were not removed from Israel; only, Asa's heart was perfect all his days.
18 He brought into the house of God the dedicated things of his father and his own dedicated things: silver and gold and utensils.18 And he brought into the house of God the things that his father had dedicated, and that he himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vessels.18 He brought into God's temple the silver, the gold, and the utensils he and his father had set apart as holy.18 He brought into the house of God the things that his father had dedicated, and that he himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vessels.18 And he brought into the house of God the things which his father had dedicated, and the things which he himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vessels.
19 And there was no more war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa's reign.19 And there was no more war unto the five and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa.19 There was no war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa's reign.19 There was no more war to the five and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa.19 And there was no war until the thirty-fifth year of the reign of Asa.
