| 1 The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, | 1 The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin: | 1 [These are] the words of Jeremiah, son of Hilkiah. | 6 Then I said, "Alas, Lord GOD! Behold, I do not know how to speak, Because I am a youth." | 6 Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child. | 6 I, Jeremiah, said, "Almighty LORD, I do not know how to speak. I am only a boy!" | 6 Then I said, "Ah, Lord Yahweh! Behold, I don't know how to speak; for I am a child." | 6 And I said, Alas, Lord Jehovah! behold, I cannot speak; for I am a child. | 7 But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am a youth,' Because everywhere I send you, you shall go, And all that I command you, you shall speak. | 7 But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. | 7 But the LORD said to me, "Don't say that you are only a boy. You will go wherever I send you. You will say whatever I command you to say. | 7 But Yahweh said to me, "Don't say, 'I am a child;' for to whoever I shall send you, you shall go, and whatever I shall command you, you shall speak. | 7 But Jehovah said unto me, Say not, I am a child; for thou shalt go to whomsoever I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. | 8 "Do not be afraid of them, For I am with you to deliver you," declares the LORD. | 8 Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD. | 8 Don't be afraid of people. I am with you, and I will rescue you," declares the LORD. | 8 Don't be afraid because of them; for I am with you to deliver you," says Yahweh. | 8 Be not afraid of them; for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith Jehovah. | 9 Then the LORD stretched out His hand and touched my mouth, and the LORD said to me, "Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. | 9 Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth. | 9 Then the LORD stretched out his hand and touched my mouth. The LORD said to me, "Now I have put my words in your mouth. | 9 Then Yahweh put forth his hand, and touched my mouth; and Yahweh said to me, "Behold, I have put my words in your mouth. | 9 And Jehovah put forth his hand and touched my mouth; and Jehovah said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth. | 10 "See, I have appointed you this day over the nations and over the kingdoms, To pluck up and to break down, To destroy and to overthrow, To build and to plant." | 10 See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant. | 10 Today I have put you in charge of nations and kingdoms. You will uproot and tear down. You will destroy and overthrow. | 11 The word of the LORD came to me saying, "What do you see, Jeremiah?" And I said, "I see a rod of an almond tree." | 11 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree. | 11 Again the LORD spoke his word to me and asked, "Jeremiah, what do you see?" I answered, "I see a branch of an almond tree." | 11 Moreover the word of Yahweh came to me, saying, "Jeremiah, what do you see?" And I said, "I see a boiling pot, facing away from the north." | 13 And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north. | 13 Again the LORD spoke his word to me and asked, "What do you see?" I answered, "I see a boiling pot, and its top is tilted away from the north." | 13 The word of Yahweh came to me the second time, saying, "What do you see?" I said, "I see a boiling caldron; and it is tipping away from the north." | 13 And the word of Jehovah came to me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething-pot, and its face is from the north. | 14 Then the LORD said to me, "Out of the north the evil will break forth on all the inhabitants of the land. | 14 Then the LORD said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land. | 14 Then the LORD said to me, "Disaster will be poured out from the north on all those who live in the land. | 14 Then Yahweh said to me, "Out of the north evil will break out on all the inhabitants of the land. | 14 And Jehovah said unto me, Out of the north shall evil break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land. | 15 "For, behold, I am calling all the families of the kingdoms of the north," declares the LORD; "and they will come and they will set each one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls round about and against all the cities of Judah. | 15 For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah. | 15 I am going to call every family and kingdom from the north," declares the LORD. "They will come, and they will set up their thrones at the entrance of Jerusalem's gates. | 16 "I will pronounce My judgments on them concerning all their wickedness, whereby they have forsaken Me and have offered sacrifices to other gods, and worshiped the works of their own hands. | 16 And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands. | 16 I will pass sentence on my people because of all their wickedness. Stand up, and say to them whatever I tell you to say. Don't be terrified in their presence, or I will make you [even more] terrified in their presence. | 17 "You therefore put your belt on your waist, arise, and speak to them all that I command you. Don't be dismayed at them, lest I dismay you before them. | 17 Thou, therefore, gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I shall command thee: be not dismayed at them, lest I cause thee to be dismayed before them. | 18 "Now behold, I have made you today as a fortified city and as a pillar of iron and as walls of bronze against the whole land, to the kings of Judah, to its princes, to its priests and to the people of the land. | 18 For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land. | 18 Today I have made you like a fortified city, an iron pillar, and a bronze wall. You will be able to stand up to the whole land. You will be able to stand up to Judah's kings, its officials, its priests, and [all] the common people. | 18 For, behold, I have made you this day a fortified city, and an iron pillar, and bronze walls, against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against its princes, against its priests, and against the people of the land. | 18 And I, behold, I appoint thee this day as a strong city, and an iron pillar, and brazen walls, against the whole land; against the kings of Judah, against its princes, against its priests, and against the people of the land. | 19 "They will fight against you, but they will not overcome you, for I am with you to deliver you," declares the LORD. | 19 And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee. | 19 They will fight you, but they will not defeat you. I am with you, and I will rescue you," declares the LORD. | 19 They will fight against you; but they will not prevail against you; for I am with you," says Yahweh, "to deliver you." | 19 And they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee, saith Jehovah, to deliver thee. |
