Jerusalem’s Godlessness
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
"Roam to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, And look now and take note. And seek in her open squares, If you can find a man, If there is one who does justice, who seeks truth, Then I will pardon her.1 Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.1 Walk around the streets of Jerusalem. Look around, and think about these things. Search the city squares. See if you can find anyone who does what is right and seeks the truth. Then I will forgive Jerusalem.1 "Run back and forth through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places of it, if you can find a man, if there are any who does justly, who seeks truth; and I will pardon her.1 Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broadways thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that doeth justice, that seeketh fidelity; and I will pardon it.
"And although they say, 'As the LORD lives,' Surely they swear falsely."2 And though they say, The LORD liveth; surely they swear falsely.2 People say, "As the LORD lives...." Yet, they lie when they take this oath.2 Though they say, 'As Yahweh lives;' surely they swear falsely."2 And if they say, As Jehovah liveth! surely they swear falsely.
O LORD, do not Your eyes look for truth? You have smitten them, But they did not weaken; You have consumed them, But they refused to take correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; They have refused to repent.3 O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.3 LORD, your eyes look for the truth. You strike these people, but they don't feel it. You crush them, but they refuse to be corrected. They are more stubborn than rocks. They refuse to turn back.3 O Yahweh, don't your eyes look on truth? You have stricken them, but they were not grieved. You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than a rock. They have refused to return.3 Jehovah, are not thine eyes upon fidelity? Thou hast smitten them, but they are not sore; thou hast consumed them, they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.
Then I said, "They are only the poor, They are foolish; For they do not know the way of the LORD Or the ordinance of their God.4 Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God.4 I thought, "These are poor, foolish people. They don't know the way of the LORD and the justice that God demands.4 Then I said, "Surely these are poor. They are foolish; for they don't know the way of Yahweh, nor the law of their God.4 And I said, Surely these are the wretched ones, they are foolish; for they know not the way of Jehovah, the judgment of their God.
"I will go to the great And will speak to them, For they know the way of the LORD And the ordinance of their God." But they too, with one accord, have broken the yoke And burst the bonds.5 I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.5 Let me go to important people and speak to them. They know the way of the LORD and the justice that God demands." But they, too, had broken off their yokes and torn off their chains. 5 I will go to the great men, and will speak to them; for they know the way of Yahweh, and the law of their God." But these with one accord have broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.5 I will go unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they know the way of Jehovah, the judgment of their God; but these have altogether broken the yoke, have burst the bonds.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
Therefore a lion from the forest will slay them, A wolf of the deserts will destroy them, A leopard is watching their cities. Everyone who goes out of them will be torn in pieces, Because their transgressions are many, Their apostasies are numerous.6 Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.6 That is why a lion from the forest will attack them. A wolf from the wilderness will destroy them. A leopard will lie in ambush outside their cities. All who leave the cities will be torn to pieces, because they rebel so often and they become more and more unfaithful.6 Therefore a lion out of the forest shall kill them, a wolf of the evenings shall destroy them, a leopard shall watch against their cities; everyone who goes out there shall be torn in pieces; because their transgressions are many, [and] their backsliding is increased.6 Therefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, a wolf of the evenings shall waste them; the leopard lurketh against their cities, every one that goeth out thence is torn in pieces: for their transgressions are multiplied, their backslidings are increased.
"Why should I pardon you? Your sons have forsaken Me And sworn by those who are not gods. When I had fed them to the full, They committed adultery And trooped to the harlot's house.7 How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses.7 "Why should I forgive you? Your children abandoned me. They took godless oaths. They committed adultery, even though I satisfied their needs. They traveled in crowds to the houses of prostitutes.7 "How can I pardon you? Your children have forsaken me, and sworn by what are no gods. When I had fed them to the full, they committed adultery, and assembled themselves in troops at the prostitutes' houses.7 Wherefore should I pardon thee? Thy children have forsaken me, and swear by them that are not God. I have satiated them, and they have committed adultery, and they troop to the harlots' house.
"They were well-fed lusty horses, Each one neighing after his neighbor's wife.8 They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbour's wife.8 They are like well-fed stallions that are wild with desire. They neigh for their neighbors' wives.8 They were as fed horses roaming at large: everyone neighed after his neighbor's wife.8 As well fed horses, they roam about, every one neigheth after his neighbour's wife.
"Shall I not punish these people," declares the LORD, "And on a nation such as this Shall I not avenge Myself?9 Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?9 I will punish them for these things," declares the LORD. "I will punish this nation.9 Shouldn't I punish them for these things?" says Yahweh; "and shouldn't my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?9 Shall I not visit for these things? saith Jehovah, and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
"Go up through her vine rows and destroy, But do not execute a complete destruction; Strip away her branches, For they are not the LORD'S.10 Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they are not the LORD's.10 "Go among Jerusalem's rows of grapevines and destroy them, but don't destroy all of them. Cut off the branches because they don't belong to the LORD.10 "Go up on her walls, and destroy; but don't make a full end. Take away her branches; for they are not Yahweh's.10 Go up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end; take away her battlements, for they are not Jehovah's.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
"For the house of Israel and the house of Judah Have dealt very treacherously with Me," declares the LORD.11 For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith the LORD.11 The nations of Israel and Judah are unfaithful to me," declares the LORD.11 For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me," says Yahweh.11 For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith Jehovah.
 They have lied about the LORD And said, "Not He; Misfortune will not come on us, And we will not see sword or famine.12 They have belied the LORD, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:12 They lie about the LORD and say, "He doesn't exist! Nothing bad will happen to us. We won't experience war or famine.12 They have denied Yahweh, and said, "It is not he; neither shall evil come on us; neither shall we see sword nor famine.12 They have denied Jehovah, and say, He is not; and evil shall not come upon us, nor shall we see sword nor famine;
"The prophets are as wind, And the word is not in them. Thus it will be done to them!"13 And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.13 The prophets are nothing but windbags. The LORD hasn't spoken through them, so let what they say happen to them."13 The prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them. Thus shall it be done to them."13 and the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.

Therefore, thus says the LORD, the God of hosts, "Because you have spoken this word, Behold, I am making My words in your mouth fire And this people wood, and it will consume them.14 Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.14 This is what the LORD God of Armies says: Because you've talked like this, I'm going to put my words in your mouth like a fire. These people will be like wood. My words will burn them up.14 Therefore thus says Yahweh, the God of Armies, "Because you speak this word, behold, I will make my words in your mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.14 Therefore thus saith Jehovah, the God of hosts: Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.
"Behold, I am bringing a nation against you from afar, O house of Israel," declares the LORD. "It is an enduring nation, It is an ancient nation, A nation whose language you do not know, Nor can you understand what they say.15 Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.15 Nation of Israel, I'm going to bring a nation from far away to attack you, declares the LORD. It is a nation that has lasted a long time. It is an ancient nation. You don't know the language of this nation. You can't understand what its people say.15 Behold, I will bring a nation on you from far, house of Israel," says Yahweh. "It is a mighty nation. It is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you don't know, neither understand what they say.15 Behold, I bring a nation upon you from afar, house of Israel, saith Jehovah: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest thou what they say.

"Their quiver is like an open grave, All of them are mighty men.16 Their quiver is as an open sepulchre, they are all mighty men.16 Their arrow quivers are like open graves. They are all mighty warriors.16 Their quiver is an open tomb, they are all mighty men.16 Their quiver is as an open sepulchre; they are all mighty men.
"They will devour your harvest and your food; They will devour your sons and your daughters; They will devour your flocks and your herds; They will devour your vines and your fig trees; They will demolish with the sword your fortified cities in which you trust.17 And they shall eat up thine harvest, and thy bread, which thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thine herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall impoverish thy fenced cities, wherein thou trustedst, with the sword.17 They will devour your harvest and your food. They will devour your sons and your daughters. They will devour your flocks and your cattle. They will devour your grapevines and your fig trees. With their swords they will destroy the fortified cities you trust.17 They shall eat up your harvest, and your bread, [which] your sons and your daughters should eat. They shall eat up your flocks and your herds. They shall eat up your vines and your fig trees. They shall beat down your fortified cities, in which you trust, with the sword.17 And they shall eat up thy harvest and thy bread, they shall eat up thy sons and thy daughters, they shall eat up thy flocks and thy herds, they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig-trees; they shall destroy with the sword thy strong cities, wherein thou trustedst.
"Yet even in those days," declares the LORD, "I will not make you a complete destruction.18 Nevertheless in those days, saith the LORD, I will not make a full end with you.18 Yet, even in those days, declares the LORD, I won't destroy all of you.18 "But even in those days," says Yahweh, "I will not make a full end with you.18 Nevertheless in those days, saith Jehovah, I will not make a full end with you.
"It shall come about when they say, 'Why has the LORD our God done all these things to us?' then you shall say to them, 'As you have forsaken Me and served foreign gods in your land, so you will serve strangers in a land that is not yours.'19 And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these things unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not your's.19 They will ask, "Why has the LORD our God done all this to us?" Answer them, "You have abandoned me and served foreign gods in your land. So you will serve foreigners in a land that isn't yours."19 It will happen, when you say, 'Why has Yahweh our God done all these things to us?' Then you shall say to them, 'Just like you have forsaken me, and served foreign gods in your land, so you shall serve strangers in a land that is not yours.'19 And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore hath Jehovah our God done all these things unto us? then shalt thou say to them, As ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not yours.
"Declare this in the house of Jacob And proclaim it in Judah, saying,20 Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,20 "Tell this to the descendants of Jacob, and make this heard in Judah:20 "Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,20 Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,

'Now hear this, O foolish and senseless people, Who have eyes but do not see; Who have ears but do not hear.21 Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not:21 Hear this, you stupid and senseless people! You have eyes, but you cannot see. You have ears, but you cannot hear.21 'Hear now this, foolish people, and without understanding; who have eyes, and don't see; who have ears, and don't hear:21 Hear now this, O foolish and heartless people, who have eyes and see not; who have ears, and hear not.
'Do you not fear Me?' declares the LORD. 'Do you not tremble in My presence? For I have placed the sand as a boundary for the sea, An eternal decree, so it cannot cross over it. Though the waves toss, yet they cannot prevail; Though they roar, yet they cannot cross over it.22 Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?22 Don't you fear me?" asks the LORD. "Don't you tremble in my presence? I made the sand a boundary for the sea, a permanent barrier that it cannot cross. Although the waves toss continuously, they can't break through. Although they roar, they can't cross it.22 Don't you fear me?' says Yahweh 'Won't you tremble at my presence, who have placed the sand for the bound of the sea, by a perpetual decree, that it can't pass it? and though its waves toss themselves, yet they can't prevail; though they roar, yet they can't pass over it.'22 Will ye not fear me? saith Jehovah. Will ye not tremble at my presence, who have set the sand a bound for the sea by a perpetual decree, and it shall not pass it? and its waves toss themselves, but they do not prevail; and they roar, yet can they not pass over it?
'But this people has a stubborn and rebellious heart; They have turned aside and departed.23 But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone.23 But these people are stubborn and rebellious. They have turned aside and wandered away from me.23 "But this people has a revolting and a rebellious heart; they have revolted and gone.23 But this people hath a stubborn and a rebellious heart; they have turned aside and are gone.
'They do not say in their heart, "Let us now fear the LORD our God, Who gives rain in its season, Both the autumn rain and the spring rain, Who keeps for us The appointed weeks of the harvest."24 Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.24 They don't say to themselves, 'We should fear the LORD our God. He sends rain at the right time, the autumn rain and the spring rain. He makes sure that we have harvest seasons.'24 Neither do they say in their heart, 'Let us now fear Yahweh our God, who gives rain, both the former and the latter, in its season; who preserves to us the appointed weeks of the harvest.'24 And they say not in their heart, Let us now fear Jehovah our God, that giveth rain, both the early and the latter, in its season; who preserveth unto us the appointed weeks of harvest.
'Your iniquities have turned these away, And your sins have withheld good from you.25 Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you.25 Your wickedness has turned these things away. Your sins have kept good things away from you.25 "Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withheld good from you.25 Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden from you what is good.

'For wicked men are found among My people, They watch like fowlers lying in wait; They set a trap, They catch men.26 For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men.26 "Wicked people are found among my people. They lie in ambush like bird catchers. They set traps and catch people.26 For among my people are found wicked men. They watch, as fowlers lie in wait. They set a trap. They catch men.26 For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as fowlers stoop down; they set a trap, they catch men.
'Like a cage full of birds, So their houses are full of deceit; Therefore they have become great and rich.27 As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich.27 Like cages filled with birds, their houses are filled with deceit. That is why they become powerful and rich.27 As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit. Therefore they have become great, and grew rich.27 As a cage full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and have enriched themselves.
'They are fat, they are sleek, They also excel in deeds of wickedness; They do not plead the cause, The cause of the orphan, that they may prosper; And they do not defend the rights of the poor.28 They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.28 They grow big and fat. Their evil deeds have no limits. They have no respect for the rights of others. They have no respect for the rights of orphans. But they still prosper. They don't defend the rights of the poor.28 They have grown fat. They shine; yes, they excell in deeds of wickedness. They don't plead the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they may prosper; and they don't judge the right of the needy.28 They are become fat, they shine, yea, they surpass in deeds of wickedness; they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, and they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not adjudge.
Shall I not punish these people?' declares the LORD, 'On a nation such as this Shall I not avenge Myself?'29 Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?29 I will punish them for these things," declares the LORD. "I will punish this nation.29 "Shall I not punish for these things?" says Yahweh. "Shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?29 Shall I not visit for these things? saith Jehovah; shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
