The Devastation of Locusts
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
The word of the LORD that came to Joel, the son of Pethuel:1 The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.1 This is what the LORD said to Joel, son of Pethuel.1 The Word of Yahweh that came to Joel, the son of Pethuel.1 The word of Jehovah that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.
Hear this, O elders, And listen, all inhabitants of the land. Has anything like this happened in your days Or in your fathers' days?2 Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?2 Listen to this, you leaders! Open your ears, all inhabitants of this land! Nothing like this has ever happened in your lifetime or in your ancestors' lifetime.2 Hear this, you elders, And listen, all you inhabitants of the land. Has this ever happened in your days, or in the days of your fathers?2 Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?
Tell your sons about it, And let your sons tell their sons, And their sons the next generation.3 Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.3 Tell your children about it. Have your children tell their children. Have your grandchildren tell their children.3 Tell your children about it, and have your children tell their children, and their children, another generation.3 Tell your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation:
What the gnawing locust has left, the swarming locust has eaten; And what the swarming locust has left, the creeping locust has eaten; And what the creeping locust has left, the stripping locust has eaten.4 That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.4 What young locusts leave, mature locusts will eat. What mature locusts leave, adult locusts will eat. What adult locusts leave, grasshoppers will eat.4 What the swarming locust has left, the great locust has eaten. What the great locust has left, the grasshopper has eaten. What the grasshopper has left, the caterpillar has eaten.4 that which the palmer-worm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpillar eaten.
Awake, drunkards, and weep; And wail, all you wine drinkers, On account of the sweet wine That is cut off from your mouth.5 Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.5 Wake up and cry, you drunks! Cry loudly, you wine drinkers! New wine has been taken away from you.5 Wake up, you drunkards, and weep! Wail, all you drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.5 Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine: for it is cut off from your mouth.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
For a nation has invaded my land, Mighty and without number; Its teeth are the teeth of a lion, And it has the fangs of a lioness.6 For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.6 A strong nation attacked my land. It has too many soldiers to count. They have teeth like lions. They have fangs like grown lions.6 For a nation has come up on my land, strong, and without number. His teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he has the fangs of a lioness.6 For a nation is come up upon my land, strong and without number: his teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a lioness.
It has made my vine a waste And my fig tree splinters. It has stripped them bare and cast them away; Their branches have become white.7 He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.7 They destroyed my grapevines. They ruined my fig trees. They stripped off what they could eat, threw the rest away, and left the branches bare.7 He has laid my vine waste, and stripped my fig tree. He has stripped its bark, and thrown it away. Its branches are made white.7 He hath made my vine a desolation, and barked my fig-tree; he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away: its branches are made white.
Wail like a virgin girded with sackcloth For the bridegroom of her youth.8 Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.8 Cry loudly like a young woman who is dressed in sackcloth, mourning for the man she was going to marry.8 Mourn like a virgin dressed in sackcloth for the husband of her youth!8 Wail like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
The grain offering and the drink offering are cut off From the house of the LORD. The priests mourn, The ministers of the LORD.9 The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD's ministers, mourn.9 Grain offerings and wine offerings are no longer brought to the LORD's temple. The priests, the LORD's servants, mourn.9 The meal offering and the drink offering are cut off from Yahweh's house. The priests, Yahweh's ministers, mourn.9 The oblation and the drink-offering are cut off from the house of Jehovah; the priests, Jehovah's ministers, mourn.
The field is ruined, The land mourns; For the grain is ruined, The new wine dries up, Fresh oil fails.10 The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.10 Israel's fields are ruined, and the ground is dried up. The grain has been destroyed. The new wine has dried up. The olive oil has run out.10 The field is laid waste. The land mourns, for the grain is destroyed, The new wine has dried up, and the oil languishes.10 The field is laid waste, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted, the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.

Be ashamed, O farmers, Wail, O vinedressers, For the wheat and the barley; Because the harvest of the field is destroyed.11 Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.11 Be sad, you farmers! Cry loudly, you grape growers! Mourn for the wheat and the barley. The harvest is destroyed in the field.11 Be confounded, you farmers! Wail, you vineyard keepers; for the wheat and for the barley; for the harvest of the field has perished.11 Be ashamed, ye husbandmen; howl, ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley: because the harvest of the field hath perished.
The vine dries up And the fig tree fails; The pomegranate, the palm also, and the apple tree, All the trees of the field dry up. Indeed, rejoicing dries up From the sons of men.12 The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.12 The grapevines are dried up. The fig trees are withered. The pomegranate, palm, and apricot trees, as well as all the trees in the orchards, have died. Yes, the joy of these people has died too.12 The vine has dried up, and the fig tree withered; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all of the trees of the field are withered; for joy has withered away from the sons of men.12 The vine is dried up, and the fig-tree languisheth; the pomegranate-tree, the palm also and the apple-tree; all the trees of the field are withered, yea, joy is withered away from the children of men.
Gird yourselves with sackcloth And lament, O priests; Wail, O ministers of the altar! Come, spend the night in sackcloth O ministers of my God, For the grain offering and the drink offering Are withheld from the house of your God.13 Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.13 Put on your sackcloth and mourn, you priests. Cry loudly, you servants of the altar. Spend the night in sackcloth, you servants of my God. Grain offerings and wine offerings are withheld from your God's temple.13 Put on sackcloth and mourn, you priests! Wail, you ministers of the altar. Come, lie all night in sackcloth, you ministers of my God, for the meal offering and the drink offering are withheld from your God's house.13 Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests; howl, ministers of the altar; come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the oblation and the drink-offering are withholden from the house of your God.
Starvation and Drought
Consecrate a fast, Proclaim a solemn assembly; Gather the elders And all the inhabitants of the land To the house of the LORD your God, And cry out to the LORD.14 Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD,14 Schedule a time to fast! Call for an assembly! Gather the leaders and everyone who lives in the land. Bring them to the temple of the LORD your God, and cry to the LORD for help.14 Sanctify a fast. Call a solemn assembly. Gather the elders, and all the inhabitants of the land, to the house of Yahweh, your God, and cry to Yahweh.14 Hallow a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly, gather the elders, and all the inhabitants of the land to the house of Jehovah your God, and cry unto Jehovah.
Alas for the day! For the day of the LORD is near, And it will come as destruction from the Almighty.15 Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.15 This will be a terrible day! The day of the LORD is near, and it will come like destruction from the Almighty.15 Alas for the day! For the day of Yahweh is at hand, and it will come as destruction from the Almighty.15 Alas for the day! for the day of Jehovah is at hand, and as destruction from the Almighty shall it come.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
Has not food been cut off before our eyes, Gladness and joy from the house of our God?16 Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?16 Food disappears right before our eyes. Happiness and rejoicing disappear from our God's temple.16 Isn't the food cut off before our eyes; joy and gladness from the house of our God?16 Is not the food cut off before our eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God?
The seeds shrivel under their clods; The storehouses are desolate, The barns are torn down, For the grain is dried up.17 The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.17 Seeds shrivel up in their shells. Storehouses are destroyed. Barns are ruined. The grain has dried up. 17 The seeds rot under their clods. The granaries are laid desolate. The barns are broken down, for the grain has withered.17 The seeds are rotten under their clods, the granaries are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.
How the beasts groan! The herds of cattle wander aimlessly Because there is no pasture for them; Even the flocks of sheep suffer.18 How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.18 The animals groan. Herds of cattle wander around confused. There's no pasture for them. Even flocks of sheep are suffering.18 How the animals groan! The herds of livestock are perplexed, because they have no pasture. Yes, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.18 How do the beasts groan! The herds of cattle are bewildered, for they have no pasture; the flocks of sheep also are in suffering.
To You, O LORD, I cry; For fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness And the flame has burned up all the trees of the field.19 O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.19 O LORD, I cry to you for help! Fire has burned up the open pastures. Flames have burned up all the trees in the orchards.19 Yahweh, I cry to you, For the fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame has burned all the trees of the field.19 To thee, Jehovah, do I cry; for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned up all the trees of the field.
Even the beasts of the field pant for You; For the water brooks are dried up And fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.20 The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.20 Even wild animals long for you. Streams run dry. Fire has burned up the open pastures.20 Yes, the animals of the field pant to you, for the water brooks have dried up, And the fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.20 The beasts of the field also cry unto thee; for the water-courses are dried, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
