 The Pharisees and some of the scribes gathered around Him when they had come from Jerusalem,1 Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem.1 The Pharisees and some scribes who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus.1 Then the Pharisees, and some of the scribes gathered together to him, having come from Jerusalem.1 And the Pharisees and some of the scribes, coming from Jerusalem, are gathered together to him,
 and had seen that some of His disciples were eating their bread with impure hands, that is, unwashed.2 And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault.2 They saw that some of his disciples were unclean because they ate without washing their hands. 2 Now when they saw some of his disciples eating bread with defiled, that is, unwashed, hands, they found fault.2 and seeing some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is, unwashed, hands,
 (For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they carefully wash their hands, thus observing the traditions of the elders;3 For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders.3 (The Pharisees, like all other Jewish people, don't eat unless they have properly washed their hands. They follow the traditions of their ancestors.3 (For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, don't eat unless they wash their hands and forearms, holding to the tradition of the elders.3 (for the Pharisees and all the Jews, unless they wash their hands diligently, do not eat, holding what has been delivered by the ancients;
 and when they come from the market place, they do not eat unless they cleanse themselves; and there are many other things which they have received in order to observe, such as the washing of cups and pitchers and copper pots.)4 And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables.4 When they come from the marketplace, they don't eat unless they have washed first. They have been taught to follow many other rules. For example, they must also wash their cups, jars, brass pots, and dinner tables.)4 They don't eat when they come from the marketplace, unless they bathe themselves, and there are many other things, which they have received to hold to: washings of cups, pitchers, bronze vessels, and couches.)4 and on coming from the market-place, unless they are washed, they do not eat; and there are many other things which they have received to hold, the washing of cups and vessels, and brazen utensils, and couches),
 The Pharisees and the scribes asked Him, "Why do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with impure hands?"5 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?5 The Pharisees and the scribes asked Jesus, "Why don't your disciples follow the traditions taught by our ancestors? They are unclean because they don't wash their hands before they eat!"5 The Pharisees and the scribes asked him, "Why don't your disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with unwashed hands?"5 then the Pharisees and the scribes ask him, Why do thy disciples not walk according to what has been delivered by the ancients, but eat the bread with defiled hands?

 And He said to them, "Rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: 'THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS, BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME.6 He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.6 Jesus told them, "Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites in Scripture: 'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.6 He answered them, "Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, 'This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.6 But he answering said to them, Well did Esaias prophesy concerning you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honour me with their lips, but their heart is far away from me.
 'BUT IN VAIN DO THEY WORSHIP ME, TEACHING AS DOCTRINES THE PRECEPTS OF MEN.'7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.7 Their worship of me is pointless, because their teachings are rules made by humans.'7 But in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.'7 But in vain do they worship me, teaching as their teachings commandments of men.
 "Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men."8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.8 "You abandon the commandments of God to follow human traditions."8 "For you set aside the commandment of God, and hold tightly to the tradition of men--the washing of pitchers and cups, and you do many other such things."8 For, leaving the commandment of God, ye hold what is delivered by men to keep washings of vessels and cups, and many other such like things ye do.
 He was also saying to them, "You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition.9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.9 He added, "You have no trouble rejecting the commandments of God in order to keep your own traditions!9 He said to them, "Full well do you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition.9 And he said to them, Well do ye set aside the commandment of God, that ye may observe what is delivered by yourselves to keep.
 "For Moses said, 'HONOR YOUR FATHER AND YOUR MOTHER'; and, 'HE WHO SPEAKS EVIL OF FATHER OR MOTHER, IS TO BE PUT TO DEATH';10 For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:10 For example, Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother' and 'Whoever curses father or mother must be put to death.'10 For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother;' and, 'He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.'10 For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, he who speaks ill of father or mother, let him surely die.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 but you say, 'If a man says to his father or his mother, whatever I have that would help you is Corban (that is to say, given to God),'11 But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.11 But you say, 'If a person tells his father or mother that whatever he might have used to help them is [corban] (that is, an offering to God),11 But you say, 'If a man tells his father or his mother, "Whatever profit you might have received from me is Corban, that is to say, given to God;"'11 But ye say, If a man say to his father or his mother, It is corban (that is, gift), whatsoever thou mightest have profit from me by ...
 you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or his mother;12 And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;12 he no longer has to do anything for his father or mother.'12 then you no longer allow him to do anything for his father or his mother,12 And ye no longer suffer him to do anything for his father or his mother;
 thus invalidating the word of God by your tradition which you have handed down; and you do many things such as that."13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.13 Because of your traditions you have destroyed the authority of God's word. And you do many other things like that."13 making void the word of God by your tradition, which you have handed down. You do many things like this."13 making void the word of God by your traditional teaching which ye have delivered; and many such like things ye do.
The Heart of Man
 After He called the crowd to Him again, He began saying to them, "Listen to Me, all of you, and understand:14 And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand:14 Then he called the crowd again and said to them, "Listen to me, all of you, and try to understand!14 He called all the multitude to himself, and said to them, "Hear me, all of you, and understand.14 And having called again the crowd, he said to them, Hear me, all of you, and understand:
 there is nothing outside the man which can defile him if it goes into him; but the things which proceed out of the man are what defile the man.15 There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.15 Nothing that goes into a person from the outside can make him unclean. It's what comes out of a person that makes him unclean.15 There is nothing from outside of the man, that going into him can defile him; but the things which proceed out of the man are those that defile the man.15 There is nothing from outside a man entering into him which can defile him; but the things which go out from him, those it is which defile the man.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 "If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear."16 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.16 Let the person who has ears listen!" 16 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!"16 If any one have ears to hear, let him hear.
 When he had left the crowd and entered the house, His disciples questioned Him about the parable.17 And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.17 When he had left the people and gone home, his disciples asked him about this illustration.17 When he had entered into a house away from the multitude, his disciples asked him about the parable.17 And when he went indoors from the crowd, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.
 And He said to them, "Are you so lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot defile him,18 And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;18 Jesus said to them, "Don't you understand? Don't you know that whatever goes into a person from the outside can't make him unclean?18 He said to them, "Are you thus without understanding also? Don't you perceive that whatever goes into the man from outside can't defile him,18 And he says to them, Are ye also thus unintelligent? Do ye not perceive that all that is outside entering into the man cannot defile him,
 because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated?" (Thus He declared all foods clean.)19 Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?19 It doesn't go into his thoughts but into his stomach and then into a toilet." (By saying this, Jesus declared all foods acceptable.)19 because it doesn't go into his heart, but into his stomach, then into the latrine, thus purifying all foods?"19 because it does not enter into his heart but into his belly, and goes out into the draught, purging all meats?
 And He was saying, "That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man.20 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.20 He continued, "It's what comes out of a person that makes him unclean.20 He said, "That which proceeds out of the man, that defiles the man.20 And he said, That which goes forth out of the man, that defiles the man.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries,21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,21 Evil thoughts, sexual sins, stealing, murder,21 For from within, out of the hearts of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, sexual sins, murders, thefts,21 For from within, out of the heart of men, go forth evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
 deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness.22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:22 adultery, greed, wickedness, cheating, shameless lust, envy, cursing, arrogance, and foolishness come from within a person.22 covetings, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, and foolishness.22 thefts, covetousness, wickednesses, deceit, licentiousness, a wicked eye, injurious language, haughtiness, folly;
 "All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man."23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.23 All these evils come from within and make a person unclean."23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man."23 all these wicked things go forth from within and defile the man.
The Syrophoenician Woman
 Jesus got up and went away from there to the region of Tyre. And when He had entered a house, He wanted no one to know of it; yet He could not escape notice.24 And from thence he arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entered into an house, and would have no man know it: but he could not be hid.24 Jesus left that place and went to the territory of Tyre. He didn't want anyone to know that he was staying in a house there. However, it couldn't be kept a secret.24 From there he arose, and went away into the borders of Tyre and Sidon. He entered into a house, and didn't want anyone to know it, but he couldn't escape notice.24 And he rose up and went away thence into the borders of Tyre and Sidon; and having entered into a house he would not have any one know it, and he could not be hid.
 But after hearing of Him, a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit immediately came and fell at His feet.25 For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet:25 A woman whose little daughter had an evil spirit heard about Jesus. She went to him and bowed down.25 For a woman, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having heard of him, came and fell down at his feet.25 But immediately a woman, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having heard of him, came and fell at his feet

 Now the woman was a Gentile, of the Syrophoenician race. And she kept asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter.26 The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.26 The woman happened to be Greek, born in Phoenicia in Syria. She asked him to force the demon out of her daughter.26 Now the woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by race. She begged him that he would cast the demon out of her daughter.26 (and the woman was a Greek, Syrophenician by race), and asked him that he would cast the demon out of her daughter.
 And He was saying to her, "Let the children be satisfied first, for it is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs."27 But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.27 Jesus said to her, "First, let the children eat all they want. It's not right to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs."27 But Jesus said to her, "Let the children be filled first, for it is not appropriate to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs."27 But Jesus said to her, Suffer the children to be first filled; for it is not right to take the children's bread and cast it to the dogs.
 But she answered and said to Him, "Yes, Lord, but even the dogs under the table feed on the children's crumbs."28 And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs.28 She answered him, "Lord, even the dogs under the table eat some of the children's scraps."28 But she answered him, "Yes, Lord. Yet even the dogs under the table eat the children's crumbs."28 But she answered and says to him, Yea, Lord; for even the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs.
 And He said to her, "Because of this answer go; the demon has gone out of your daughter."29 And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter.29 Jesus said to her, "Because you have said this, go! The demon has left your daughter."29 He said to her, "For this saying, go your way. The demon has gone out of your daughter."29 And he said to her, Because of this word, go thy way, the demon is gone out of thy daughter.
 And going back to her home, she found the child lying on the bed, the demon having left.30 And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.30 The woman went home and found the little child lying on her bed, and the demon was gone.30 She went away to her house, and found the child having been laid on the bed, with the demon gone out.30 And having gone away to her house she found the demon gone out, and her daughter lying on the bed.

 Again He went out from the region of Tyre, and came through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, within the region of Decapolis.31 And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.31 Jesus then left the neighborhood of Tyre. He went through Sidon and the territory of the Ten Cities to the Sea of Galilee. 31 Again he departed from the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and came to the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the region of Decapolis.31 And again having left the borders of Tyre and Sidon, he came to the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.
 They brought to Him one who was deaf and spoke with difficulty, and they implored Him to lay His hand on him.32 And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.32 Some people brought to him a man who was deaf and who also had a speech defect. They begged Jesus to lay his hand on him.32 They brought to him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech. They begged him to lay his hand on him.32 And they bring to him a deaf man who could not speak right, and they beseech him that he might lay his hand on him.
 Jesus took him aside from the crowd, by himself, and put His fingers into his ears, and after spitting, He touched his tongue with the saliva;33 And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;33 Jesus took him away from the crowd to be alone with him. He put his fingers into the man's ears, and after spitting, he touched the man's tongue.33 He took him aside from the multitude, privately, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spat, and touched his tongue.33 And having taken him away from the crowd apart, he put his fingers to his ears; and having spit, he touched his tongue;
 and looking up to heaven with a deep sigh, He said to him, "Ephphatha!" that is, "Be opened!"34 And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.34 Then he looked up to heaven, sighed, and said to the man, "Ephphatha!" which means, "Be opened!"34 Looking up to heaven, he sighed, and said to him, "Ephphatha!" that is, "Be opened!"34 and looking up to heaven he groaned, and says to him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.
 And his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was removed, and he began speaking plainly.35 And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.35 At once the man could hear and talk normally.35 Immediately his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was released, and he spoke clearly.35 And immediately his ears were opened, and the band of his tongue was loosed and he spoke right.

 And He gave them orders not to tell anyone; but the more He ordered them, the more widely they continued to proclaim it.36 And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it;36 Jesus ordered the people not to tell anyone. But the more he ordered them, the more they spread the news.36 He commanded them that they should tell no one, but the more he commanded them, so much the more widely they proclaimed it.36 And he charged them that they should speak to no one of it. But so much the more he charged them, so much the more abundantly they proclaimed it;
 They were utterly astonished, saying, "He has done all things well; He makes even the deaf to hear and the mute to speak."37 And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.37 Jesus completely amazed the people. They said, "He has done everything well. He makes the deaf hear and the mute talk."37 They were astonished beyond measure, saying, "He has done all things well. He makes even the deaf hear, and the mute speak!"37 and they were astonished above measure, saying, He does all things well; he makes both the deaf to hear, and the speechless to speak.
