Death of Miriam
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 Then the sons of Israel, the whole congregation, came to the wilderness of Zin in the first month; and the people stayed at Kadesh. Now Miriam died there and was buried there.1 Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.1 In the first month the whole community of Israel came into the Desert of Zin, and they stayed at Kadesh. Miriam died and was buried there.1 The children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came into the wilderness of Zin in the first month: and the people stayed in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.1 And the children of Israel, the whole assembly, came into the wilderness of Zin, in the first month; and the people abode at Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.
2 There was no water for the congregation, and they assembled themselves against Moses and Aaron.2 And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.2 Since the community was without water, they came together to confront Moses and Aaron.2 There was no water for the congregation: and they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.2 And there was no water for the assembly, and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.
3 The people thus contended with Moses and spoke, saying, "If only we had perished when our brothers perished before the LORD!3 And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD!3 The people complained to Moses and said, "If only we had died when the other Israelites died in the LORD's presence!3 The people strove with Moses, and spoke, saying, "We wish that we had died when our brothers died before Yahweh!3 And the people contended with Moses, and spoke, saying, Would that we had died when our brethren died before Jehovah!
4 "Why then have you brought the LORD'S assembly into this wilderness, for us and our beasts to die here?4 And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?4 Did you bring the LORD's assembly into this desert just to have us and our animals die here?4 Why have you brought the assembly of Yahweh into this wilderness, that we should die there, we and our animals?4 And why have ye brought the congregation of Jehovah into this wilderness, that we should die there, we and our beasts?
5 "Why have you made us come up from Egypt, to bring us in to this wretched place? It is not a place of grain or figs or vines or pomegranates, nor is there water to drink."5 And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.5 Why did you make us leave Egypt and bring us into this terrible place? This is no place to plant crops. Even figs, grapes, and pomegranates won't grow here. And there's no water to drink!"5 Why have you made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in to this evil place? It is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink."5 And why have ye made us to go up out of Egypt, to bring us to this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates, neither is there any water to drink.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 Then Moses and Aaron came in from the presence of the assembly to the doorway of the tent of meeting and fell on their faces. Then the glory of the LORD appeared to them;6 And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them.6 Moses and Aaron went from the assembly to the entrance of the tent of meeting. Immediately, they bowed with their faces touching the ground, and the glory of the LORD appeared to them.6 Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the door of the Tent of Meeting, and fell on their faces: and the glory of Yahweh appeared to them.6 And Moses and Aaron went from before the congregation to the entrance of the tent of meeting, and fell upon their faces; and the glory of Jehovah appeared to them.
7 and the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,7 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,7 The LORD said to Moses,7 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,7 And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,
The Water of Meribah
8 "Take the rod; and you and your brother Aaron assemble the congregation and speak to the rock before their eyes, that it may yield its water. You shall thus bring forth water for them out of the rock and let the congregation and their beasts drink."8 Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.8 "Take your staff, then you and your brother Aaron gather the community. Right before their eyes, tell the rock to give up its water. In this way you will give the community water from the rock for them and their animals to drink."8 "Take the rod, and assemble the congregation, you, and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, that it give forth its water; and you shall bring forth to them water out of the rock; so you shall give the congregation and their livestock drink."8 Take the staff, and gather the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes, and it shall give its water; and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock, and shalt give the assembly and their beasts drink.
9 So Moses took the rod from before the LORD, just as He had commanded him;9 And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.9 Moses took his staff out of [the tent in] the LORD's presence as he had been commanded.9 Moses took the rod from before Yahweh, as he commanded him.9 And Moses took the staff from before Jehovah, as he had commanded him.
10 and Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly before the rock. And he said to them, "Listen now, you rebels; shall we bring forth water for you out of this rock?"10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?10 Then Moses and Aaron assembled the community in front of the rock and said to them, "Listen, you rebels, must we bring water out of this rock for you?"10 Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, "Hear now, you rebels; shall we bring you water out of this rock for you?"10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said to them, Hear now, ye rebels: shall we bring forth to you water out of this rock?
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation and their beasts drank.11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.11 Moses raised his hand and hit the rock twice with the staff. Water came pouring out, and all the people and their animals drank.11 Moses lifted up his hand, and struck the rock with his rod twice: and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their livestock.11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his staff smote the rock twice, and much water came out, and the assembly drank, and their beasts.
12 But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you have not believed Me, to treat Me as holy in the sight of the sons of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them."12 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.12 But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "You didn't trust me! You didn't show the Israelites how holy I am! So you will not bring this congregation into the land I'm giving them."12 Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you didn't believe in me, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them."12 And Jehovah said to Moses and to Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to hallow me before the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land that I have given them.
13 Those were the waters of Meribah, because the sons of Israel contended with the LORD, and He proved Himself holy among them.13 This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.13 This was the oasis of Meribah [Complaining], where the Israelites complained about the LORD and where he showed them he was holy.13 These are the waters of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with Yahweh, and he was sanctified in them.13 These are the waters of Meribah, where the children of Israel contended with Jehovah, and he hallowed himself in them.
14 From Kadesh Moses then sent messengers to the king of Edom: "Thus your brother Israel has said, 'You know all the hardship that has befallen us;14 And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that hath befallen us:14 Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom. He said, "This is what your brother Israel says: You know all the hardships we've had.14 Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, saying: "Thus says your brother Israel: You know all the travail that has happened to us:14 And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, Thus says thy brother Israel: Thou knowest all the trouble that hath befallen us,
15 that our fathers went down to Egypt, and we stayed in Egypt a long time, and the Egyptians treated us and our fathers badly.15 How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians vexed us, and our fathers:15 Our ancestors went to Egypt, and we lived there for many years. The Egyptians mistreated us and our ancestors.15 how our fathers went down into Egypt, and we lived in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians dealt ill with us, and our fathers:15 how our fathers went down to Egypt, and we dwelt in Egypt a long time, and the Egyptians evil entreated us and our fathers;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 'But when we cried out to the LORD, He heard our voice and sent an angel and brought us out from Egypt; now behold, we are at Kadesh, a town on the edge of your territory.16 And when we cried unto the LORD, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and hath brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of thy border:16 When we cried out to the LORD, he heard us, sent a messenger, and brought us out of Egypt. "Now we're here in Kadesh, a city on the edge of your territory.16 and when we cried to Yahweh, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and brought us forth out of Egypt: and behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of your border.16 and when we cried to Jehovah, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and brought us forth out of Egypt; and behold, we are at Kadesh, a city at the extremity of thy border.
17 'Please let us pass through your land. We will not pass through field or through vineyard; we will not even drink water from a well. We will go along the king's highway, not turning to the right or left, until we pass through your territory.'"17 Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king's high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy borders.17 Please let us go through your country. We won't go through any of your fields or vineyards, or drink any of the water from your wells. We'll stay on the king's highway and never leave it until we've passed through your territory."17 "Please let us pass through your land: we will not pass through field or through vineyard, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go along the king's highway; we will not turn aside to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed your border."17 Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country; we will not pass through fields, or through vineyards, neither will we drink water out of the wells: we will go by the king's road; we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy border.
18 Edom, however, said to him, "You shall not pass through us, or I will come out with the sword against you."18 And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass by me, lest I come out against thee with the sword.18 But the Edomites answered, "You may not pass through our country. If you try, we'll come out and attack you."18 Edom said to him, "You shall not pass through me, lest I come out with the sword against you."18 But Edom said to him, Thou shalt not pass by me, lest I come out against thee with the sword.
19 Again, the sons of Israel said to him, "We will go up by the highway, and if I and my livestock do drink any of your water, then I will pay its price. Let me only pass through on my feet, nothing else."19 And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way: and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it: I will only, without doing anything else, go through on my feet.19 The Israelites replied, "We'll stay on the main road, and if we or our livestock drink any of your water, we'll pay for it. We want to pass through on foot. That's all."19 The children of Israel said to him, "We will go up by the highway; and if we drink of your water, I and my livestock, then will I give its price: let me only, without [doing] anything [else], pass through on my feet."19 And the children of Israel said to him, We will go by the high way; and if we drink of thy water, I and my cattle, then I will pay for it: I will only, without anything else, go through on my feet.
20 But he said, "You shall not pass through." And Edom came out against him with a heavy force and with a strong hand.20 And he said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand.20 But the Edomites said, "You may not pass through." Then they came out and attacked with many well-armed troops.20 He said, "You shall not pass through." Edom came out against him with many people, and with a strong hand.20 And he said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
21 Thus Edom refused to allow Israel to pass through his territory; so Israel turned away from him.21 Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him.21 Since the Edomites refused to let Israel go through their territory, the Israelites turned around and went a different way.21 Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border, so Israel turned away from him.21 Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his territory; and Israel turned away from him.
22 Now when they set out from Kadesh, the sons of Israel, the whole congregation, came to Mount Hor.22 And the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, journeyed from Kadesh, and came unto mount Hor.22 The whole community of Israel left Kadesh and came to Mount Hor.22 They traveled from Kadesh: and the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came to Mount Hor.22 And they removed from Kadesh; and the children of Israel, the whole assembly, came to mount Hor.
Death of Aaron
23 Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron at Mount Hor by the border of the land of Edom, saying,23 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor, by the coast of the land of Edom, saying,23 At Mount Hor, near the border of Edom, the LORD said to Moses and Aaron,23 Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron in Mount Hor, by the border of the land of Edom, saying,23 And Jehovah spoke to Moses and to Aaron in mount Hor, on the border of the land of Edom, saying,
24 "Aaron will be gathered to his people; for he shall not enter the land which I have given to the sons of Israel, because you rebelled against My command at the waters of Meribah.24 Aaron shall be gathered unto his people: for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my word at the water of Meribah.24 "Aaron must now join his ancestors [in death], since he cannot enter the land I'm giving the Israelites. This is because you both rebelled against my command at the oasis of Meribah.24 "Aaron shall be gathered to his people; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given to the children of Israel, because you rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah.24 Aaron shall be gathered unto his peoples; for he shall not enter into the land that I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my commandment at the waters of Meribah.
25 "Take Aaron and his son Eleazar and bring them up to Mount Hor;25 Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor:25 Bring Aaron and his son Eleazar up on Mount Hor.25 Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor;25 Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor,
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
26 and strip Aaron of his garments and put them on his son Eleazar. So Aaron will be gathered to his people, and will die there."26 And strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be gathered unto his people, and shall die there.26 Take off Aaron's priestly clothes, and put them on his son Eleazar. Then Aaron will die there and join [his ancestors]."26 and strip Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be gathered [to his people], and shall die there."26 and strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron shall be gathered to his peoples, and shall die there.
27 So Moses did just as the LORD had commanded, and they went up to Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.27 And Moses did as the LORD commanded: and they went up into mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.27 Moses did as the LORD commanded. The whole community saw them go up on Mount Hor.27 Moses did as Yahweh commanded: and they went up into Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.27 And Moses did as Jehovah had commanded, and they went up mount Hor before the eyes of the whole assembly.
28 After Moses had stripped Aaron of his garments and put them on his son Eleazar, Aaron died there on the mountain top. Then Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.28 And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount.28 Moses took off Aaron's priestly clothes and put them on his son Eleazar. Aaron died there on top of the mountain. Then Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.28 Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there on the top of the mountain: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.28 And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there upon the top of the mountain; and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.
29 When all the congregation saw that Aaron had died, all the house of Israel wept for Aaron thirty days.29 And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.29 The whole community saw that Aaron had died, and all the Israelites mourned for Aaron 30 days.29 When all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they wept for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.29 And the whole assembly saw that Aaron was dead, and they mourned for Aaron thirty days, even the whole house of Israel.
