1 A wise son accepts his father's discipline, But a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.1 A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.1 A wise son listens to his father's discipline, but a mocker does not listen to reprimands.1 A wise son listens to his father's instruction, but a scoffer doesn't listen to rebuke.1 A wise son heareth his father's instruction; but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
2 From the fruit of a man's mouth he enjoys good, But the desire of the treacherous is violence.2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.2 A person eats well as a result of his speaking ability, but the appetite of treacherous people [craves] violence.2 By the fruit of his lips, a man enjoys good things; but the unfaithful crave violence.2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth; but the soul of the treacherous, violence.
3 The one who guards his mouth preserves his life; The one who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.3 Whoever controls his mouth protects his own life. Whoever has a big mouth comes to ruin.3 He who guards his mouth guards his soul. One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.3 He that guardeth his mouth keepeth his soul; destruction shall be to him that openeth wide his lips.
4 The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, But the soul of the diligent is made fat.4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.4 A lazy person craves food and there is none, but the appetite of hard-working people is satisfied.4 The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing, but the desire of the diligent shall be fully satisfied.4 A sluggard's soul desireth and hath nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
5 A righteous man hates falsehood, But a wicked man acts disgustingly and shamefully.5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.5 A righteous person hates lying, but a wicked person behaves with shame and disgrace.5 A righteous man hates lies, but a wicked man brings shame and disgrace.5 A righteous man hateth lying; but the wicked maketh himself odious and cometh to shame.

6 Righteousness guards the one whose way is blameless, But wickedness subverts the sinner.6 Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.6 Righteousness protects the honest way of life, but wickedness ruins a sacrifice for sin.6 Righteousness guards the way of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the sinner.6 Righteousness preserveth him that is perfect in the way; but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
7 There is one who pretends to be rich, but has nothing; Another pretends to be poor, but has great wealth.7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.7 One person pretends to be rich but has nothing. Another pretends to be poor but has great wealth.7 There are some who pretend to be rich, yet have nothing. There are some who pretend to be poor, yet have great wealth.7 There is that feigneth himself rich, and hath nothing; there is that maketh himself poor, and hath great wealth.
8 The ransom of a man's life is his wealth, But the poor hears no rebuke.8 The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.8 A person's riches are the ransom for his life, but the poor person does not pay attention to threats.8 The ransom of a man's life is his riches, but the poor hear no threats.8 The ransom of a man's life is his riches; but the indigent heareth not rebuke.

10 Through insolence comes nothing but strife, But wisdom is with those who receive counsel.10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.10 Arrogance produces only quarreling, but those who take advice gain wisdom.10 Pride only breeds quarrels, but with ones who take advice is wisdom.10 By pride there only cometh contention; but with the well-advised is wisdom.

11 Wealth obtained by fraud dwindles, But the one who gathers by labor increases it.11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.11 Wealth [gained] through injustice dwindles away, but whoever gathers little by little has plenty.11 Wealth gained dishonestly dwindles away, but he who gathers by hand makes it grow.11 Wealth gotten by vanity diminisheth; but he that gathereth by manual-labour shall increase it.
12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But desire fulfilled is a tree of life.12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.12 Delayed hope makes one sick at heart, but a fulfilled longing is a tree of life.12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when longing is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick; but the desire that cometh to pass is a tree of life.
13 The one who despises the word will be in debt to it, But the one who fears the commandment will be rewarded.13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.13 Whoever despises [God's] words will pay the penalty, but the one who fears [God's] commands will be rewarded.13 Whoever despises instruction will pay for it, but he who respects a command will be rewarded.13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be held by it; but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
14 The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, To turn aside from the snares of death.14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.14 The teachings of a wise person are a fountain of life to turn [one] away from the grasp of death.14 The teaching of the wise is a spring of life, to turn from the snares of death.14 The teaching of the wise man is a fountain of life, to turn away from the snares of death.
15 Good understanding produces favor, But the way of the treacherous is hard.15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.15 Good sense brings favor, but the way of treacherous people is always the same. 15 Good understanding wins favor; but the way of the unfaithful is hard.15 Good understanding procureth favour; but the way of the treacherous is hard.

16 Every prudent man acts with knowledge, But a fool displays folly.16 Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.16 Any sensible person acts with knowledge, but a fool displays stupidity.16 Every prudent man acts from knowledge, but a fool exposes folly.16 Every prudent man acteth with knowledge; but the foolish layeth open his folly.
17 A wicked messenger falls into adversity, But a faithful envoy brings healing.17 A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.17 An undependable messenger gets into trouble, but a dependable envoy brings healing.17 A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a trustworthy envoy gains healing.17 A wicked messenger falleth into evil; but a faithful ambassador is health.
18 Poverty and shame will come to him who neglects discipline, But he who regards reproof will be honored.18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.18 Poverty and shame come to a person who ignores discipline, but whoever pays attention to constructive criticism will be honored.18 Poverty and shame come to him who refuses discipline, but he who heeds correction shall be honored.18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction; but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

20 He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will suffer harm.20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.20 Whoever walks with wise people will be wise, but whoever associates with fools will suffer.20 One who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.20 He that walketh with wise men becometh wise; but a companion of the foolish will be depraved.

21 Adversity pursues sinners, But the righteous will be rewarded with prosperity.21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.21 Disaster hunts down sinners, but righteous people are rewarded with good.21 Misfortune pursues sinners, but prosperity rewards the righteous.21 Evil pursueth sinners; but to the righteous good shall be repaid.
22 A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, And the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.22 Good people leave an inheritance to their grandchildren, but the wealth of sinners is stored away for a righteous person.22 A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored for the righteous.22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children; but the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous man.

24 He who withholds his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him diligently.24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.24 Whoever refuses to spank his son hates him, but whoever loves his son disciplines him from early on.24 One who spares the rod hates his son, but one who loves him is careful to discipline him.24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son; but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
25 The righteous has enough to satisfy his appetite, But the stomach of the wicked is in need.25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.25 A righteous person eats to satisfy his appetite, but the bellies of wicked people are always empty.25 The righteous one eats to the satisfying of his soul, but the belly of the wicked goes hungry.25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul; but the belly of the wicked shall want.
