1 What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, has found?1 What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?1 What can we say that we have discovered about our ancestor Abraham?1 What then will we say that Abraham, our forefather, has found according to the flesh?1 What shall we say then that Abraham our father according to flesh has found?
2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.2 If Abraham had God's approval because of something he did, he would have had a reason to brag. But he could not brag to God about it.2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not toward God.2 For if Abraham has been justified on the principle of works, he has whereof to boast: but not before God;
3 For what does the Scripture say? "ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS."3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.3 What does Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and that faith was regarded by God to be his approval of Abraham."3 For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness."3 for what does the scripture say? And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness.
4 Now to the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as what is due.4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.4 When people work, their pay is not regarded as a gift but something they have earned.4 Now to him who works, the reward is not counted as grace, but as something owed.4 Now to him that works the reward is not reckoned as of grace, but of debt:
5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness,5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.5 However, when people don't work but believe God, the one who approves ungodly people, their faith is regarded as God's approval.5 But to him who doesn't work, but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness.5 but to him who does not work, but believes on him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness.

6 just as David also speaks of the blessing on the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,6 David says the same thing about those who are blessed: God approves of people without their earning it. David said,6 Even as David also pronounces blessing on the man to whom God counts righteousness apart from works,6 Even as David also declares the blessedness of the man to whom God reckons righteousness without works:
7 "BLESSED ARE THOSE WHOSE LAWLESS DEEDS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN, AND WHOSE SINS HAVE BEEN COVERED.7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.7 "Blessed are those whose disobedience is forgiven and whose sins are pardoned.7 "Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, whose sins are covered.7 Blessed they whose lawlessnesses have been forgiven, and whose sins have been covered:
8 "BLESSED IS THE MAN WHOSE SIN THE LORD WILL NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT."8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.8 Blessed is the person whom the Lord no longer considers sinful."8 Blessed is the man whom the Lord will by no means charge with sin."8 blessed the man to whom the Lord shall not at all reckon sin.
9 Is this blessing then on the circumcised, or on the uncircumcised also? For we say, "FAITH WAS CREDITED TO ABRAHAM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS."9 Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.9 Are only the circumcised people blessed, or are uncircumcised people blessed as well? We say, "Abraham's faith was regarded as God's approval of him."9 Is this blessing then pronounced on the circumcised, or on the uncircumcised also? For we say that faith was accounted to Abraham for righteousness.9 Does this blessedness then rest on the circumcision, or also on the uncircumcision? For we say that faith has been reckoned to Abraham as righteousness.
10 How then was it credited? While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised;10 How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.10 How was his faith regarded as God's approval? Was he circumcised or was he uncircumcised at that time? He had not been circumcised.10 How then was it counted? When he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.10 How then has it been reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.

11 and he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while uncircumcised, so that he might be the father of all who believe without being circumcised, that righteousness might be credited to them,11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:11 Abraham's faith was regarded as God's approval while he was still uncircumcised. The mark of circumcision is the seal of that approval. Therefore, he is the father of every believer who is not circumcised, and their faith, too, is regarded as God's approval of them.11 He received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while he was in uncircumcision, that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they might be in uncircumcision, that righteousness might also be accounted to them.11 And he received the sign of circumcision as seal of the righteousness of faith which he had being in uncircumcision, that he might be the father of all them that believe being in uncircumcision, that righteousness might be reckoned to them also;
12 and the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also follow in the steps of the faith of our father Abraham which he had while uncircumcised.12 And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.12 He is also the father of those who not only are circumcised but also are following in the footsteps of his faith. Our father Abraham had that faith before he was circumcised.12 He is the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had in uncircumcision.12 and father of circumcision, not only to those who are of the circumcision, but to those also who walk in the steps of the faith, during uncircumcision, of our father Abraham.
13 For the promise to Abraham or to his descendants that he would be heir of the world was not through the Law, but through the righteousness of faith.13 For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.13 So it was not by obeying Moses' Teachings that Abraham or his descendants received the promise that he would inherit the world. Rather, it was through God's approval of his faith.13 For the promise to Abraham and to his seed that he should be heir of the world wasn't through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.13 For it was not by law that the promise was to Abraham, or to his seed, that he should be heir of the world, but by righteousness of faith.
14 For if those who are of the Law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise is nullified;14 For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:14 If those who obey Moses' Teachings are the heirs, then faith is useless and the promise is worthless.14 For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void, and the promise is made of no effect.14 For if they which are of law be heirs, faith is made vain, and the promise made of no effect.
15 for the Law brings about wrath, but where there is no law, there also is no violation.15 Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.15 The laws in Moses' Teachings bring about anger. But where laws don't exist, they can't be broken.15 For the law works wrath, for where there is no law, neither is there disobedience.15 For law works wrath; but where no law is neither is there transgression.

16 For this reason it is by faith, in order that it may be in accordance with grace, so that the promise will be guaranteed to all the descendants, not only to those who are of the Law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all,16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,16 Therefore, the promise is based on faith so that it can be a gift. Consequently, the promise is guaranteed for every descendant, not only for those who are descendants by obeying Moses' Teachings but also for those who are descendants by believing as Abraham did. He is the father of all of us, 16 For this cause it is of faith, that it may be according to grace, to the end that the promise may be sure to all the seed, not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all.16 Therefore it is on the principle of faith, that it might be according to grace, in order to the promise being sure to all the seed, not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of Abraham's faith, who is father of us all,
17 (as it is written, "A FATHER OF MANY NATIONS HAVE I MADE YOU") in the presence of Him whom he believed, even God, who gives life to the dead and calls into being that which does not exist.17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.17 as Scripture says: "I have made you a father of many things." Abraham believed when he stood in the presence of the God who gives life to dead people and calls into existence nations that don't even exist.17 As it is written, "I have made you a father of many nations." This is in the presence of him whom he believed: God, who gives life to the dead, and calls the things that are not, as though they were.17 (according as it is written, I have made thee father of many nations,) before the God whom he believed, who quickens the dead, and calls the things which be not as being;
18 In hope against hope he believed, so that he might become a father of many nations according to that which had been spoken, "SO SHALL YOUR DESCENDANTS BE."18 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.18 When there was nothing left to hope for, Abraham still hoped and believed. As a result, he became a father of many nations, as he had been told: "That is how many descendants you will have."18 Who in hope believed against hope, to the end that he might become a father of many nations, according to that which had been spoken, "So will your seed be."18 who against hope believed in hope to his becoming father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be:
19 Without becoming weak in faith he contemplated his own body, now as good as dead since he was about a hundred years old, and the deadness of Sarah's womb;19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb:19 Abraham didn't weaken. Through faith he regarded the facts: His body was already as good as dead now that he was about a hundred years old, and Sarah was unable to have children.19 Without being weakened in faith, he didn't consider his own body, already having been worn out, (he being about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb.19 and not being weak in faith, he considered not his own body already become dead, being about a hundred years old, and the deadening of Sarah's womb,
20 yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God,20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;20 He didn't doubt God's promise out of a lack of faith. Instead, giving honor to God [for the promise], he became strong because of faith20 Yet, looking to the promise of God, he didn't waver through unbelief, but grew strong through faith, giving glory to God,20 and hesitated not at the promise of God through unbelief; but found strength in faith, giving glory to God;

21 and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.21 and was absolutely confident that God would do what he promised.21 and being fully assured that what he had promised, he was also able to perform.21 and being fully persuaded that what he has promised he is able also to do;
22 Therefore IT WAS ALSO CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.22 That is why his faith was regarded as God's approval of him.22 Therefore it also was "reckoned to him for righteousness."22 wherefore also it was reckoned to him as righteousness.
23 Now not for his sake only was it written that it was credited to him,23 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;23 But the words "his faith was regarded as God's approval of him" were written not only for him23 Now it was not written that it was accounted to him for his sake alone,23 Now it was not written on his account alone that it was reckoned to him,
24 but for our sake also, to whom it will be credited, as those who believe in Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead,24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;24 but also for us. Our faith will be regarded as God's approval of us who believe in the one who brought Jesus, our Lord, back to life.24 but for our sake also, to whom it will be accounted, who believe in him who raised Jesus, our Lord, from the dead,24 but on ours also, to whom, believing on him who has raised from among the dead Jesus our Lord,
25 He who was delivered over because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification.25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.25 Jesus, our Lord, was handed over to death because of our failures and was brought back to life so that we could receive God's approval.25 who was delivered up for our trespasses, and was raised for our justification.25 who has been delivered for our offences and has been raised for our justification, it will be reckoned.
