18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: when His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit. | 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. | 18 The birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. His mother Mary had been promised to Joseph in marriage. But before they were married, Mary realized that she was pregnant by the Holy Spirit. | 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was like this; for after his mother, Mary, was engaged to Joseph, before they came together, she was found pregnant by the Holy Spirit. | 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was thus: His mother, Mary, that is, having been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit. | 19 And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly. | 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. | 19 Her husband Joseph was an honorable man and did not want to disgrace her publicly. So he decided to break the marriage agreement with her secretly. | 19 Joseph, her husband, being a righteous man, and not willing to make her a public example, intended to put her away secretly. | 19 But Joseph, her husband, being a righteous man, and unwilling to expose her publicly, purposed to have put her away secretly; | 20 But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. | 20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. | 20 Joseph had this in mind when an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. The angel said to him, "Joseph, descendant of David, don't be afraid to take Mary as your wife. She is pregnant by the Holy Spirit. | 20 But when he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, don't be afraid to take to yourself Mary, your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. | 20 but while he pondered on these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, fear not to take to thee Mary, thy wife, for that which is begotten in her is of the Holy Spirit. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
21 "She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." | 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. | 21 She will give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus [He Saves], because he will save his people from their sins." | 21 She shall bring forth a son. You shall call his name Jesus, for it is he who shall save his people from their sins." | 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins. | 22 Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: | 22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, | 22 All this happened so that what the Lord had spoken through the prophet came true: | 22 Now all this has happened, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, | 22 Now all this came to pass that that might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord, through the prophet, saying, | 23 "BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL," which translated means, "GOD WITH US." | 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. | 23 "The virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and they will name him Immanuel," which means "God is with us." | 23 "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son. They shall call his name Immanuel;" which is, being interpreted, "God with us." | 23 Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which is, being interpreted, 'God with us.' | 24 And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife, | 24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: | 24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him to do. He took Mary to be his wife. | 24 Joseph arose from his sleep, and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took his wife to himself; | 24 But Joseph, having awoke up from his sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had enjoined him, and took to him his wife, | 25 but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus. | 25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS. | 25 He did not have marital relations with her before she gave birth to a son. Joseph named the child Jesus. | 25 and didn't know her sexually until she had brought forth her firstborn son. He named him Jesus. | 25 and knew her not until she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus. |
