Jesus Teaches at the Feast
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
After these things Jesus was walking in Galilee, for He was unwilling to walk in Judea because the Jews were seeking to kill Him.1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.1 Jesus later traveled throughout Galilee. He didn't want to travel in Judea because Jews there wanted to kill him.1 After these things, Jesus was walking in Galilee, for he wouldn't walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him.1 And after these things Jesus walked in Galilee, for he would not walk in Judaea, because the Jews sought to kill him.
Now the feast of the Jews, the Feast of Booths, was near.2 Now the Jew's feast of tabernacles was at hand.2 The time for the Jewish Festival of Booths was near.2 Now the feast of the Jews, the Feast of Booths, was at hand.2 Now the tabernacles, the feast of the Jews, was near.
 Therefore His brothers said to Him, "Leave here and go into Judea, so that Your disciples also may see Your works which You are doing.3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.3 So Jesus' brothers told him, "Leave this place, and go to Judea so that your disciples can see the things that you're doing.3 His brothers therefore said to him, "Depart from here, and go into Judea, that your disciples also may see your works which you do.3 His brethren therefore said to him, Remove hence and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see thy works which thou doest;
"For no one does anything in secret when he himself seeks to be known publicly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world."4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.4 No one does things secretly when he wants to be known publicly. If you do these things, you should let the world see you."4 For no one does anything in secret, and himself seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, reveal yourself to the world."4 for no one does anything in secret and himself seeks to be known in public. If thou doest these things, manifest thyself to the world:
For not even His brothers were believing in Him.5 For neither did his brethren believe in him.5 Even his brothers didn't believe in him.5 For even his brothers didn't believe in him.5 for neither did his brethren believe on him.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
So Jesus said to them, "My time is not yet here, but your time is always opportune.6 Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.6 Jesus told them, "Now is not the right time for me to go. Any time is right for you.6 Jesus therefore said to them, "My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready.6 Jesus therefore says to them, My time is not yet come, but your time is always ready.
"The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it, that its deeds are evil.7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.7 The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I say that what everyone does is evil.7 The world can't hate you, but it hates me, because I testify about it, that its works are evil.7 The world cannot hate you, but me it hates, because I bear witness concerning it that its works are evil.
"Go up to the feast yourselves; I do not go up to this feast because My time has not yet fully come."8 Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast: for my time is not yet full come.8 Go to the festival. I'm not going to this festival right now. Now is not the right time for me to go."8 You go up to the feast. I am not yet going up to this feast, because my time is not yet fulfilled."8 Ye, go ye up to this feast. I go not up to this feast, for my time is not yet fulfilled.
Having said these things to them, He stayed in Galilee.9 When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee.9 After saying this, Jesus stayed in Galilee.9 Having said these things to them, he stayed in Galilee.9 Having said these things to them he abode in Galilee.
But when His brothers had gone up to the feast, then He Himself also went up, not publicly, but as if, in secret.10 But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.10 But after his brothers had gone to the festival, Jesus went. He didn't go publicly but secretly.10 But when his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly, but as it were in secret.10 But when his brethren had gone up, then he himself also went up to the feast, not openly, but as in secret.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
So the Jews were seeking Him at the feast and were saying, "Where is He?"11 Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?11 The Jews were looking for Jesus in the crowd at the festival. They kept asking, "Where is that man?"11 The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, "Where is he?"11 The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?
There was much grumbling among the crowds concerning Him; some were saying, "He is a good man"; others were saying, "No, on the contrary, He leads the people astray."12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.12 The crowds argued about Jesus. Some people said, "He's a good man," while others said, "No he isn't. He deceives the people."12 There was much murmuring among the multitudes concerning him. Some said, "He is a good man." Others said, "Not so, but he leads the multitude astray."12 And there was much murmuring concerning him among the crowds. Some said, He is a good man; others said, No; but he deceives the crowd.
Yet no one was speaking openly of Him for fear of the Jews.13 Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.13 Yet, no one would talk openly about him because they were afraid of the Jews.13 Yet no one spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews.13 However, no one spoke openly concerning him on account of their fear of the Jews.
But when it was now the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and began to teach.14 Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.14 When the festival was half over, Jesus went to the temple courtyard and began to teach.14 But when it was now the midst of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught.14 But when it was now the middle of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught.
The Jews then were astonished, saying, "How has this man become learned, having never been educated?"15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?15 The Jews were surprised and asked, "How can this man be so educated when he hasn't gone to school?"15 The Jews therefore marveled, saying, "How does this man know letters, having never been educated?"15 The Jews therefore wondered, saying, How knows this man letters, having never learned?
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
So Jesus answered them and said, "My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me.16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.16 Jesus responded to them, "What I teach doesn't come from me but from the one who sent me.16 Jesus therefore answered them, "My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.16 Jesus therefore answered them and said, My doctrine is not mine, but that of him that has sent me.
"If anyone is willing to do His will, he will know of the teaching, whether it is of God or whether I speak from Myself.17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.17 Those who want to follow the will of God will know if what I teach is from God or if I teach my own thoughts.17 If anyone desires to do his will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is from God, or if I am speaking from myself.17 If any one desire to practise his will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is of God, or that I speak from myself.
"He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who is seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, He is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.18 Those who speak their own thoughts are looking for their own glory. But the man who wants to bring glory to the one who sent him is a true teacher and doesn't have dishonest motives.18 He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.18 He that speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but he that seeks the glory of him that has sent him, he is true, and unrighteousness is not in him.
"Did not Moses give you the Law, and yet none of you carries out the Law? Why do you seek to kill Me?"19 Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?19 Didn't Moses give you his teachings? Yet, none of you does what Moses taught you. So why do you want to kill me?"19 Didn't Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill me?"19 Has not Moses given you the law, and no one of you practises the law? Why do ye seek to kill me?
The crowd answered, "You have a demon! Who seeks to kill You?"20 The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?20 The crowd answered, "You're possessed by a demon! Who wants to kill you?"20 The multitude answered, "You have a demon! Who seeks to kill you?"20 The crowd answered and said, Thou hast a demon: who seeks to kill thee?
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
Jesus answered them, "I did one deed, and you all marvel.21 Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.21 Jesus answered them, "I performed one miracle, and all of you are surprised by it.21 Jesus answered them, "I did one work, and you all marvel because of it.21 Jesus answered and said to them, I have done one work, and ye all wonder.
"For this reason Moses has given you circumcision (not because it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a man.22 Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man.22 Moses gave you the teaching about circumcision (although it didn't come from Moses but from our ancestors). So you circumcise a male on a day of worship.22 Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a boy.22 Therefore Moses gave you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and ye circumcise a man on sabbath.
"If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the Law of Moses will not be broken, are you angry with Me because I made an entire man well on the Sabbath?23 If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?23 If you circumcise a male on the day of worship to follow Moses' Teachings, why are you angry with me because I made a man entirely well on the day of worship?23 If a boy receives circumcision on the Sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me, because I made a man completely healthy on the Sabbath?23 If a man receives circumcision on sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be violated, are ye angry with me because I have made a man entirely sound on sabbath?
"Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment."24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.24 Stop judging by outward appearance! Instead, judge correctly."24 Don't judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment."24 Judge not according to sight, but judge righteous judgment.
So some of the people of Jerusalem were saying, "Is this not the man whom they are seeking to kill?25 Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?25 Some of the people who lived in Jerusalem said, "Isn't this the man they want to kill?25 Therefore some of them of Jerusalem said, "Isn't this he whom they seek to kill?25 Some therefore of those of Jerusalem said, Is not this he whom they seek to kill?
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
"Look, He is speaking publicly, and they are saying nothing to Him. The rulers do not really know that this is the Christ, do they?26 But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?26 But look at this! He's speaking in public, and no one is saying anything to him! Can it be that the rulers really know that this man is the Messiah?26 Behold, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is truly the Christ?26 and behold, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Have the rulers then indeed recognised that this is the Christ?
"However, we know where this man is from; but whenever the Christ may come, no one knows where He is from."27 Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.27 However, we know where this man comes from. When the Christ comes, no one will know where he is from."27 However we know where this man comes from, but when the Christ comes, no one will know where he comes from."27 But as to this man we know whence he is. Now as to the Christ, when he comes, no one knows whence he is.
Then Jesus cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, "You both know Me and know where I am from; and I have not come of Myself, but He who sent Me is true, whom you do not know.28 Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.28 Then, while Jesus was teaching in the temple courtyard, he said loudly, "You know me, and you know where I come from. I didn't decide to come on my own. The one who sent me is true. He's the one you don't know.28 Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, "You both know me, and know where I am from. I have not come of myself, but he who sent me is true, whom you don't know.28 Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, Ye both know me and ye know whence I am; and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye do not know.
"I know Him, because I am from Him, and He sent Me."29 But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.29 I know him because I am from him and he sent me."29 I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me."29 I know him, because I am from him, and he has sent me.
So they were seeking to seize Him; and no man laid his hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come.30 Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.30 The Jews tried to arrest him but couldn't because his time had not yet come.30 They sought therefore to take him; but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.30 They sought therefore to take him; and no one laid his hand upon him, because his hour had not yet come.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
But many of the crowd believed in Him; and they were saying, "When the Christ comes, He will not perform more signs than those which this man has, will He?"31 And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?31 However, many people in the crowd believed in him. They asked, "When the Messiah comes, will he perform more miracles than this man has?"31 But of the multitude, many believed in him. They said, "When the Christ comes, he won't do more signs than those which this man has done, will he?"31 But many of the crowd believed on him, and said, Will the Christ, when he comes, do more signs than those which this man has done?
The Pharisees heard the crowd muttering these things about Him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to seize Him.32 The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.32 The Pharisees heard the crowd saying things like this about him. So the chief priests and the Pharisees sent temple guards to arrest Jesus.32 The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to arrest him.32 The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things concerning him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers that they might take him.
Therefore Jesus said, "For a little while longer I am with you, then I go to Him who sent Me.33 Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.33 Jesus said, "I will still be with you for a little while. Then I'll go to the one who sent me.33 Then Jesus said, "I will be with you a little while longer, then I go to him who sent me.33 Jesus therefore said, Yet a little while I am with you, and I go to him that has sent me.
"You will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come."34 Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come.34 You will look for me, but you won't find me. You can't go where I'm going."34 You will seek me, and won't find me; and where I am, you can't come."34 Ye shall seek me and shall not find me, and where I am ye cannot come.
The Jews then said to one another, "Where does this man intend to go that we will not find Him? He is not intending to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks, is He?35 Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?35 The Jews said among themselves, "Where does this man intend to go so that we won't find him? Does he mean that he'll live with the Jews who are scattered among the Greeks and that he'll teach the Greeks?35 The Jews therefore said among themselves, "Where will this man go that we won't find him? Will he go to the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?35 The Jews therefore said to one another, Where is he about to go that we shall not find him? Is he about to go to the dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
"What is this statement that He said, 'You will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come '?"36 What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?36 What does he mean when he says, 'You will look for me, but you won't find me,' and 'You can't go where I'm going'?"36 What is this word that he said, 'You will seek me, and won't find me; and where I am, you can't come'?"36 What word is this which he said, Ye shall seek me and shall not find me; and where I am ye cannot come?
Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.37 On the last and most important day of the festival, Jesus was standing [in the temple courtyard]. He said loudly, "Whoever is thirsty must come to me to drink.37 Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!37 In the last, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried saying, If any one thirst, let him come to me and drink.
"He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, 'From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'"38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.38 As Scripture says, 'Streams of living water will flow from deep within the person who believes in me.'"38 He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, from within him will flow rivers of living water."38 He that believes on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)39 Jesus said this about the Spirit, whom his believers would receive. The Spirit was not yet evident, as it would be after Jesus had been glorified.39 But he said this about the Spirit, which those believing in him were to receive. For the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus wasn't yet glorified.39 But this he said concerning the Spirit, which they that believed on him were about to receive; for the Spirit was not yet, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.
Division of People over Jesus
Some of the people therefore, when they heard these words, were saying, "This certainly is the Prophet."40 Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.40 After some of the crowd heard Jesus say these words, they said, "This man is certainly the prophet."40 Many of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, "This is truly the prophet."40 Some out of the crowd therefore, having heard this word, said, This is truly the prophet.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
Others were saying, "This is the Christ." Still others were saying, "Surely the Christ is not going to come from Galilee, is He?41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?41 Other people said, "This man is the Messiah." Still other people asked, "How can the Messiah come from Galilee?41 Others said, "This is the Christ." But some said, "What, does the Christ come out of Galilee?41 Others said, This is the Christ. Others said, Does then the Christ come out of Galilee?
"Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the descendants of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?"42 Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?42 Doesn't Scripture say that the Messiah will come from the descendants of David and from the village of Bethlehem, where David lived?"42 Hasn't the Scripture said that the Christ comes of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?"42 Has not the scripture said that the Christ comes of the seed of David, and from the village of Bethlehem, where David was?
So a division occurred in the crowd because of Him.43 So there was a division among the people because of him.43 So the people were divided because of Jesus.43 So there arose a division in the multitude because of him.43 There was a division therefore in the crowd on account of him.
Some of them wanted to seize Him, but no one laid hands on Him.44 And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.44 Some of them wanted to arrest him, but they couldn't.44 Some of them would have arrested him, but no one laid hands on him.44 But some of them desired to take him, but no one laid hands upon him.
The officers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, "Why did you not bring Him?"45 Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?45 When the temple guards returned, the chief priests and Pharisees asked them, "Why didn't you bring Jesus?"45 The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, "Why didn't you bring him?"45 The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, Why have ye not brought him?
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
The officers answered, "Never has a man spoken the way this man speaks."46 The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.46 The temple guards answered, "No human has ever spoken like this man."46 The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this man!"46 The officers answered, Never man spoke thus, as this man speaks.
The Pharisees then answered them, "You have not also been led astray, have you?47 Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived?47 The Pharisees asked the temple guards, "Have you been deceived too?47 The Pharisees therefore answered them, "You aren't also led astray, are you?47 The Pharisees therefore answered them, Are ye also deceived?
"No one of the rulers or Pharisees has believed in Him, has he?48 Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?48 Has any ruler or any Pharisee believed in him?48 Have any of the rulers believed in him, or of the Pharisees?48 Has any one of the rulers believed on him, or of the Pharisees?
"But this crowd which does not know the Law is accursed."49 But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.49 This crowd is cursed because it doesn't know Moses' Teachings."49 But this multitude that doesn't know the law is accursed."49 But this crowd, which does not know the law, are accursed.
Nicodemus (he who came to Him before, being one of them) said to them,50 Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)50 One of those Pharisees was Nicodemus, who had previously visited Jesus. Nicodemus asked them,50 Nicodemus (he who came to him by night, being one of them) said to them,50 Nicodemus says to them (being one of themselves),
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
"Our Law does not judge a man unless it first hears from him and knows what he is doing, does it?"51 Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?51 "Do Moses' Teachings enable us to judge a person without first hearing that person's side of the story? We can't judge a person without finding out what that person has done."51 "Does our law judge a man, unless it first hears from him personally and knows what he does?"51 Does our law judge a man before it have first heard from himself, and know what he does?
They answered him, "You are not also from Galilee, are you? Search, and see that no prophet arises out of Galilee."52 They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.52 They asked Nicodemus, "Are you saying this because you're from Galilee? Study [the Scriptures], and you'll see that no prophet comes from Galilee." 52 They answered him, "Are you also from Galilee? Search, and see that no prophet has arisen out of Galilee."52 They answered and said to him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search and look, that no prophet arises out of Galilee.
Everyone went to his home.53 And every man went unto his own house.53 Then each of them went home.53 Everyone went to his own house,53 And every one went to his home.
