Call to Repent

1 Now on the same occasion there were some present who reported to Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.1 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.1 At that time some people reported to Jesus about some Galileans whom Pilate had executed while they were sacrificing animals.1 Now there were some present at the same time who told him about the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.1 Now at the same time there were present some who told him of the Galileans whose blood Pilate mingled with that of their sacrifices.
2 And Jesus said to them, "Do you suppose that these Galileans were greater sinners than all other Galileans because they suffered this fate?2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?2 Jesus replied to them, "Do you think that this happened to them because they were more sinful than other people from Galilee?2 Jesus answered them, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered such things?2 And he answering said to them, Think ye that these Galileans were sinners beyond all the Galileans because they suffered such things?
3 "I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.3 No! I can guarantee that they weren't. But if you don't turn to God and change the way you think and act, then you, too, will all die.3 I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all perish in the same way.3 No, I say to you, but if ye repent not, ye shall all perish in the same manner.
4 "Or do you suppose that those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them were worse culprits than all the men who live in Jerusalem?4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?4 What about those 18 people who died when the tower at Siloam fell on them? Do you think that they were more sinful than other people living in Jerusalem?4 Or those eighteen, on whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them; do you think that they were worse offenders than all the men who dwell in Jerusalem?4 Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, think ye that they were debtors beyond all the men who dwell in Jerusalem?
5 "I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish."5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.5 No! I can guarantee that they weren't. 6 And He began telling this parable: "A man had a fig tree which had been planted in his vineyard; and he came looking for fruit on it and did not find any.6 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.6 Then Jesus used this illustration: "A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard. He went to look for fruit on the tree but didn't find any.6 He spoke this parable. "A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it, and found none.6 And he spoke this parable: A certain man had a fig-tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit upon it and did not find any.
7 "And he said to the vineyard-keeper, 'Behold, for three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree without finding any. Cut it down! Why does it even use up the ground?'7 Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?7 He said to the gardener, 'For the last three years I've come to look for figs on this fig tree but haven't found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up [good] soil?'7 He said to the vine dresser, 'Behold, these three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and found none. Cut it down. Why does it waste the soil?'7 And he said to the vinedresser, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig-tree and find none: cut it down; why does it also render the ground useless?
8 "And he answered and said to him, 'Let it alone, sir, for this year too, until I dig around it and put in fertilizer;8 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:8 "The gardener replied, 'Sir, let it stand for one more year. I'll dig around it and fertilize it.8 He answered, 'Lord, leave it alone this year also, until I dig around it, and fertilize it.8 But he answering says to him, Sir, let it alone for this year also, until I shall dig about it and put dung,
9 and if it bears fruit next year, fine; but if not, cut it down.'"9 And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.9 Maybe next year it'll have figs. But if not, then cut it down.'"9 If it bears fruit, fine; but if not, after that, you can cut it down.'"9 and if it shall bear fruit but if not, after that thou shalt cut it down.
Healing on the Sabbath

11 And there was a woman who for eighteen years had had a sickness caused by a spirit; and she was bent double, and could not straighten up at all.11 And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.11 A woman who was possessed by a spirit was there. The spirit had disabled her for 18 years. She was hunched over and couldn't stand up straight.11 Behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and she was bent over, and could in no way straighten herself up.11 And lo, there was a woman having a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and she was bent together and wholly unable to lift her head up.
12 When Jesus saw her, He called her over and said to her, "Woman, you are freed from your sickness."12 And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.12 When Jesus saw her, he called her to come to him and said, "Woman, you are free from your disability."12 When Jesus saw her, he called her, and said to her, "Woman, you are freed from your infirmity."12 And Jesus, seeing her, called to her, and said to her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.

14 But the synagogue official, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, began saying to the crowd in response, "There are six days in which work should be done; so come during them and get healed, and not on the Sabbath day."14 And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.14 The synagogue leader was irritated with Jesus for healing on the day of worship. The leader told the crowd, "There are six days when work can be done. So come on one of those days to be healed. Don't come on the day of worship."14 The ruler of the synagogue, being indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the multitude, "There are six days in which men ought to work. Therefore come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day!"14 But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus healed on the sabbath, answering said to the crowd, There are six days in which people ought to work; in these therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.
15 But the Lord answered him and said, "You hypocrites, does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the stall and lead him away to water him?15 The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?15 The Lord said, "You hypocrites! Don't each of you free your ox or donkey on the day of worship? Don't you then take it out of its stall to give it some water to drink?15 Therefore the Lord answered him, "You hypocrites! Doesn't each one of you free his ox or his donkey from the stall on the Sabbath, and lead him away to water?15 The Lord therefore answered him and said, Hypocrites! does not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the manger and leading it away, water it?

16 "And this woman, a daughter of Abraham as she is, whom Satan has bound for eighteen long years, should she not have been released from this bond on the Sabbath day?"16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?16 Now, here is a descendant of Abraham. Satan has kept her in this condition for 18 years. Isn't it right to free her on the day of worship?"16 Ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan had bound eighteen long years, be freed from this bondage on the Sabbath day?"16 And this woman, who is a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound, lo, these eighteen years, ought she not to be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?
17 As He said this, all His opponents were being humiliated; and the entire crowd was rejoicing over all the glorious things being done by Him.17 And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.17 As he said this, everyone who opposed him felt ashamed. But the entire crowd was happy about the miraculous things he was doing.17 As he said these things, all his adversaries were disappointed, and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.17 And as he said these things, all who were opposed to him were ashamed; and all the crowd rejoiced at all the glorious things which were being done by him.
Parables of Mustard Seed and Leaven
18 So He was saying, "What is the kingdom of God like, and to what shall I compare it?18 Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it?18 Jesus asked, "What is the kingdom of God like? What can I compare it to?18 He said, "What is the Kingdom of God like? To what shall I compare it?18 And he said, To what is the kingdom of God like? and to what shall I liken it?
19 "It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and threw into his own garden; and it grew and became a tree, and THE BIRDS OF THE AIR NESTED IN ITS BRANCHES."19 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it.19 It's like a mustard seed that someone planted in a garden. 24 "Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.24 "Try hard to enter through the narrow door. I can guarantee that many will try to enter, but they won't succeed.24 "Strive to enter in by the narrow door, for many, I tell you, will seek to enter in, and will not be able.24 Strive with earnestness to enter in through the narrow door, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter in and will not be able.
25 "Once the head of the house gets up and shuts the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock on the door, saying, 'Lord, open up to us!' then He will answer and say to you, 'I do not know where you are from.'25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:25 After the homeowner gets up and closes the door, [it's too late]. You can stand outside, knock at the door, and say, 'Sir, open the door for us!' But he will answer you, 'I don't know who you are.'25 When once the master of the house has risen up, and has shut the door, and you begin to stand outside, and to knock at the door, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open to us!' then he will answer and tell you, 'I don't know you or where you come from.'25 From the time that the master of the house shall have risen up and shall have shut the door, and ye shall begin to stand without and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, open to us; and he answering shall say to you, I know you not whence ye are:

26 "Then you will begin to say, 'We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets';26 Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.26 Then you will say, 'We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.'26 Then you will begin to say, 'We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.'26 then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten in thy presence and drunk, and thou hast taught in our streets;

Get away from me, all you evil people.'27 He will say, 'I tell you, I don't know where you come from. 28 "In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but yourselves being thrown out.28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.28 Then you will cry and be in extreme pain. That's what you'll do when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets. They'll be in the kingdom of God, but you'll be thrown out.28 There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets, in the Kingdom of God, and yourselves being thrown outside.28 There shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but yourselves cast out.
29 "And they will come from east and west and from north and south, and will recline at the table in the kingdom of God.29 And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.29 People will come from all over the world and will eat in the kingdom of God.29 They will come from the east, west, north, and south, and will sit down in the Kingdom of God.29 And they shall come from east and west, and from north and south, and shall lie down at table in the kingdom of God.

31 Just at that time some Pharisees approached, saying to Him, "Go away, leave here, for Herod wants to kill You."31 The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee.31 At that time some Pharisees told Jesus, "Get out of here, and go somewhere else! Herod wants to kill you."31 On that same day, some Pharisees came, saying to him, "Get out of here, and go away, for Herod wants to kill you."31 The same hour certain Pharisees came up, saying to him, Get out, and go hence, for Herod is desirous to kill thee.
32 And He said to them, "Go and tell that fox, 'Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I reach My goal.'32 And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.32 Jesus said to them, "Tell that fox that I will force demons out of people and heal people today and tomorrow. I will finish my work on the third day.32 He said to them, "Go and tell that fox, 'Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I complete my mission.32 And he said to them, Go, tell that fox, Behold, I cast out demons and accomplish cures to-day and to-morrow, and the third day I am perfected;
33 "Nevertheless I must journey on today and tomorrow and the next day; for it cannot be that a prophet would perish outside of Jerusalem.33 Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.33 But I must be on my way today, tomorrow, and the next day. It's not possible for a prophet to die outside Jerusalem.33 Nevertheless I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the next day, for it can't be that a prophet perish outside of Jerusalem.'33 but I must needs walk to-day and to-morrow and the day following, for it must not be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.
34 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, just as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not have it!34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!34 "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you kill the prophets and stone to death those sent to you! How often I wanted to gather your children together the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings! But you were not willing!34 "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, like a hen gathers her own brood under her wings, and you refused!34 Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those that are sent unto her, how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen her brood under her wings, and ye would not.
35 "Behold, your house is left to you desolate; and I say to you, you will not see Me until the time comes when you say, 'BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!'"35 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.35 Your house will be abandoned. I can guarantee that you will not see me again until you say, 'Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!'"35 Behold, your house is left to you desolate. I tell you, you will not see me, until you say, 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!'"35 Behold, your house is left unto you; and I say unto you, that ye shall not see me until it come that ye say, Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord.
