Woe to Jerusalem and the Nations | ||||
NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
1 Woe to her who is rebellious and defiled, The tyrannical city! | 1 Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the oppressing city! | 1 How horrible it will be for that rebellious and corrupt place, the city of violence. | 1 Woe to her who is rebellious and polluted, the oppressing city! | 1 Woe to her that is rebellious and corrupted, to the oppressing city! | 2 She heeded no voice, She accepted no instruction. She did not trust in the LORD, She did not draw near to her God. | 2 She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the LORD; she drew not near to her God. | 2 It obeys no one. It does not accept correction. It does not trust the LORD. It does not draw close to its God. | 2 She didn't obey the voice. She didn't receive correction. She didn't trust in Yahweh. She didn't draw near to her God. | 2 She hearkened not to the voice; she received not correction; she confided not in Jehovah; she drew not near her God. | 3 Her princes within her are roaring lions, Her judges are wolves at evening; They leave nothing for the morning. | 3 Her princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they gnaw not the bones till the morrow. | 3 Its officials are [like] roaring lions. Its judges are [like] wolves in the evening. They leave nothing to gnaw on for the morning. | 3 Her princes in the midst of her are roaring lions. Her judges are evening wolves. They leave nothing until the next day. | 3 Her princes in the midst of her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves, that leave nothing for the morning. | 4 Her prophets are reckless, treacherous men; Her priests have profaned the sanctuary. They have done violence to the law. | 4 Her prophets are light and treacherous persons: her priests have polluted the sanctuary, they have done violence to the law. | 4 Its prophets are reckless and unfaithful. Its priests contaminate what is holy. They violate the teachings. | 4 Her prophets are arrogant and treacherous people. Her priests have profaned the sanctuary. They have done violence to the law. | 4 Her prophets are vain-glorious, treacherous persons; her priests profane the sanctuary, they do violence to the law. | 5 The LORD is righteous within her; He will do no injustice. Every morning He brings His justice to light; He does not fail. But the unjust knows no shame. | 5 The just LORD is in the midst thereof; he will not do iniquity: every morning doth he bring his judgment to light, he faileth not; but the unjust knoweth no shame. | 5 The righteous LORD is in that city. He does no wrong. He brings his judgment to light every morning. He does not fail. But those who are perverted are shameless. | 5 Yahweh, in the midst of her, is righteous. He will do no wrong. Every morning he brings his justice to light. He doesn't fail, but the unjust know no shame. | 5 The righteous Jehovah is in the midst of her: he doeth no wrong. Every morning doth he bring his judgment to light; it faileth not: but the unrighteous knoweth no shame. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
6 "I have cut off nations; Their corner towers are in ruins. I have made their streets desolate, With no one passing by; Their cities are laid waste, Without a man, without an inhabitant. | 6 I have cut off the nations: their towers are desolate; I made their streets waste, that none passeth by: their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, that there is none inhabitant. | 6 "I will cut off the nations. Their towers will be destroyed. I will demolish their streets. No one will walk through them. Their cities will be completely destroyed. Not a single person will be left. No one will be living there. | 6 I have cut off nations. Their battlements are desolate. I have made their streets waste, so that no one passes by. Their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, so that there is no inhabitant. | 6 I have cut off nations: their battlements are desolate; I made their streets waste, that none passeth by; their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, so that there is no inhabitant. | 7 "I said, 'Surely you will revere Me, Accept instruction.' So her dwelling will not be cut off According to all that I have appointed concerning her. But they were eager to corrupt all their deeds. | 7 I said, Surely thou wilt fear me, thou wilt receive instruction; so their dwelling should not be cut off, howsoever I punished them: but they rose early, and corrupted all their doings. | 7 I said [to my people], 'You will fear me. You will accept correction!' Then their homeland would not be wiped out even though I have punished them. Still, they continued to be corrupt in everything they did." | 7 I said, "Just fear me. Receive correction, so that her dwelling won't be cut off, according to all that I have appointed concerning her." But they rose early and corrupted all their doings. | 7 I said, Only fear me, receive correction; so her dwelling shall not be cut off, howsoever I may punish her. But they rose early, they corrupted all their doings. | 8 "Therefore wait for Me," declares the LORD, "For the day when I rise up as a witness. Indeed, My decision is to gather nations, To assemble kingdoms, To pour out on them My indignation, All My burning anger; For all the earth will be devoured By the fire of My zeal. | 8 Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the LORD, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy. | 8 The LORD declares, "Just wait! One day I will stand up as a witness. I have decided to gather nations, to bring kingdoms together, and to pour my rage, my burning anger, on them. The whole land will be consumed by my fiery fury. | 8 "Therefore wait for me," says Yahweh, "until the day that I rise up to the prey, for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour on them my indignation, even all my fierce anger, for all the earth will be devoured with the fire of my jealousy. | 8 Therefore wait ye for me, saith Jehovah, until the day that I rise up to the prey; for my determination is to assemble the nations, that I may gather the kingdoms together, to pour upon them mine indignation, all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy. | 9 "For then I will give to the peoples purified lips, That all of them may call on the name of the LORD, To serve Him shoulder to shoulder. | 9 For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve him with one consent. | 9 "Then I will give all people pure lips to worship the LORD and to serve him with one purpose. | 9 For then I will purify the lips of the peoples, that they may all call on the name of Yahweh, to serve him shoulder to shoulder. | 9 For then will I turn to the peoples a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of Jehovah, to serve him with one consent. | 10 "From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia My worshipers, My dispersed ones, Will bring My offerings. | 10 From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia my suppliants, even the daughter of my dispersed, shall bring mine offering. | 10 From beyond the rivers of Sudan my worshipers, my scattered people, will bring my offering. | 10 From beyond the rivers of Cush, my worshipers, even the daughter of my dispersed people, will bring my offering. | 10 From beyond the rivers of Cush my suppliants, the daughter of my dispersed, shall bring mine oblation. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
11 "In that day you will feel no shame Because of all your deeds By which you have rebelled against Me; For then I will remove from your midst Your proud, exulting ones, And you will never again be haughty On My holy mountain. | 11 In that day shalt thou not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the midst of thee them that rejoice in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be haughty because of my holy mountain. | 11 On that day you will no longer be ashamed of all your rebellious acts against me. Then I will remove your arrogance and never again will you act proud on my holy mountain. | 11 In that day you will not be disappointed for all your doings, in which you have transgressed against me; for then I will take away out of the midst of you your proudly exulting ones, and you will no more be haughty in my holy mountain. | 11 In that day thou shalt not be ashamed for all thy doings wherein thou hast transgressed against me; for then I will take away out of the midst of thee them that exult in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be haughty because of my holy mountain. | A Remnant of Israel |
12 "But I will leave among you A humble and lowly people, And they will take refuge in the name of the LORD. | 12 I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD. | 12 So with you I will leave a faithful few, a humble and poor people. They will seek refuge in the name of the LORD. | 12 But I will leave in the midst of you an afflicted and poor people, and they will take refuge in the name of Yahweh. | 12 And I will leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of Jehovah. | 13 "The remnant of Israel will do no wrong And tell no lies, Nor will a deceitful tongue Be found in their mouths; For they will feed and lie down With no one to make them tremble." | 13 The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid. | 13 The faithful few in Israel will not do wrong, tell lies, or use their tongues to deceive others. They will graze their sheep and lie down, and there will be no one to terrify them." | 13 The remnant of Israel will not do iniquity, nor speak lies, neither will a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth, for they will feed and lie down, and no one will make them afraid." | 13 The remnant of Israel shall not work unrighteousness, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: but they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid. | 14 Shout for joy, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O Israel! Rejoice and exult with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem! | 14 Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem. | 14 Sing happily, people of Zion! Shout loudly, Israel! Celebrate and rejoice with all your heart, people of Jerusalem. | 14 Sing, daughter of Zion! Shout, Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, daughter of Jerusalem. | 14 Exult, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; rejoice and be glad with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem: | 15 The LORD has taken away His judgments against you, He has cleared away your enemies. The King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst; You will fear disaster no more. | 15 The LORD hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy: the king of Israel, even the LORD, is in the midst of thee: thou shalt not see evil any more. | 15 The LORD has reversed the judgments against you. He has forced out your enemies. The king of Israel, the LORD, is with you. You will never fear disaster again. | 15 Yahweh has taken away your judgments. He has thrown out your enemy. The King of Israel, Yahweh, is in the midst of you. You will not be afraid of evil any more. | 15 Jehovah hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy; the King of Israel, Jehovah, is in the midst of thee; thou shalt not see evil any more. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
16 In that day it will be said to Jerusalem: "Do not be afraid, O Zion; Do not let your hands fall limp. | 16 In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not: and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack. | 16 On that day Jerusalem will be told, "Do not be afraid, Zion! Do not lose courage!" | 16 In that day, it will be said to Jerusalem, "Don't be afraid, Zion. Don't let your hands be weak." | 16 In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear not; Zion, let not thy hands be slack. | 17 "The LORD your God is in your midst, A victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy. | 17 The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing. | 17 The LORD your God is with you. He is a hero who saves you. He happily rejoices over you, renews you with his love, and celebrates over you with shouts of joy. | 17 Yahweh, your God, is in the midst of you, a mighty one who will save. He will rejoice over you with joy. He will calm you in his love. He will rejoice over you with singing. | 17 Jehovah thy God is in thy midst, a mighty one that will save: he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love; he will exult over thee with singing. | 18 "I will gather those who grieve about the appointed feasts-- They came from you, O Zion; The reproach of exile is a burden on them. | 18 I will gather them that are sorrowful for the solemn assembly, who are of thee, to whom the reproach of it was a burden. | 18 "I will gather those among you who are troubled because of the festivals. They bear a burden of disgrace. | 18 I will remove those who grieve about the appointed feasts from you. They are a burden and a reproach to you. | 18 I will gather them that sorrow for the solemn assemblies, who were of thee: the reproach of it was a burden unto them. | 19 "Behold, I am going to deal at that time With all your oppressors, I will save the lame And gather the outcast, And I will turn their shame into praise and renown In all the earth. | 19 Behold, at that time I will undo all that afflict thee: and I will save her that halteth, and gather her that was driven out; and I will get them praise and fame in every land where they have been put to shame. | 19 At that time I will deal with all who have overpowered you. I will rescue those who are lame. I will gather those who have been scattered. I will make them praised and famous in all the world, though they had been ashamed. | 19 Behold, at that time I will deal with all those who afflict you, and I will save those who are lame, and gather those who were driven away. I will give them praise and honor, whose shame has been in all the earth. | 19 Behold, at that time I will deal with all them that afflict thee; and I will save her that halted, and gather her that was driven out; and I will make them a praise and a name in all the lands where they have been put to shame. | 20 "At that time I will bring you in, Even at the time when I gather you together; Indeed, I will give you renown and praise Among all the peoples of the earth, When I restore your fortunes before your eyes," Says the LORD. | 20 At that time will I bring you again, even in the time that I gather you: for I will make you a name and a praise among all people of the earth, when I turn back your captivity before your eyes, saith the LORD. | 20 At that time I will bring you [home]. Yes, at that time I will gather you together. I will make you famous and praised among all the people of the earth when I restore your fortunes right before your eyes," says the LORD. | 20 At that time will I bring you in, and at that time will I gather you; for I will give you honor and praise among all the peoples of the earth, when I restore your fortunes before your eyes, says Yahweh. | 20 At that time will I bring you, yea, at the time that I gather you; for I will make you a name and a praise, among all the peoples of the earth, when I shall turn again your captivity before your eyes, saith Jehovah. |
