Then David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said to Jonathan, "What have I done? What is my iniquity? And what is my sin before your father, that he is seeking my life?"1 And David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said before Jonathan, What have I done? what is mine iniquity? and what is my sin before thy father, that he seeketh my life?1 David fled from the pastures at Ramah, came to Jonathan, and asked, "What have I done? What crime am I guilty of? What sin have I committed against your father that he's trying to kill me?"1 David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said before Jonathan, "What have I done? What is my iniquity? What is my sin before your father, that he seeks my life?"1 And David fled from Naioth by Ramah, and came and said before Jonathan, What have I done? what is mine iniquity, and what is my sin before thy father, that he seeks my life?
He said to him, "Far from it, you shall not die. Behold, my father does nothing either great or small without disclosing it to me. So why should my father hide this thing from me? It is not so!"2 And he said unto him, God forbid; thou shalt not die: behold, my father will do nothing either great or small, but that he will show it me: and why should my father hide this thing from me? it is not so.2 Jonathan answered, "That's unthinkable! You're not going to die! My father does nothing without telling me, whether it's important or not. Why should my father hide this from me? It's just not that way."2 He said to him, "Far from it; you shall not die. Behold, my father does nothing either great or small, but that he discloses it to me; and why should my father hide this thing from me? It is not so."2 And he said to him, God forbid; thou shalt not die: behold, my father will do nothing either great or small, and not apprise me; and why should my father hide this thing from me? it is not so.
Yet David vowed again, saying, "Your father knows well that I have found favor in your sight, and he has said, 'Do not let Jonathan know this, or he will be grieved.' But truly as the LORD lives and as your soul lives, there is hardly a step between me and death."3 And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.3 But David took an oath, saying, "Your father certainly knows that you support me, so he said [to himself], 'Jonathan must not know about this. It will bring him distress.' But I solemnly swear, as the LORD and you live, I'm only one step away from death."3 David swore moreover, and said, "Your father knows well that I have found favor in your eyes; and he says, 'Don't let Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved:' but truly as Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death."3 And David swore again and again, and said, Thy father certainly knows that I have found favour in thy sight: and he has thought, Jonathan shall not know this, lest he be grieved; but truly as Jehovah liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.
Then Jonathan said to David, "Whatever you say, I will do for you."4 Then said Jonathan unto David, Whatsoever thy soul desireth, I will even do it for thee.4 Jonathan said to David, "I'll do whatever you say."4 Then Jonathan said to David, "Whatever your soul desires, I will even do it for you."4 And Jonathan said to David, What thy soul may say, I will even do it for thee.
So David said to Jonathan, "Behold, tomorrow is the new moon, and I ought to sit down to eat with the king. But let me go, that I may hide myself in the field until the third evening.5 And David said unto Jonathan, Behold, to morrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king at meat: but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field unto the third day at even.5 David replied, "Tomorrow is the New Moon Festival, when I should sit and eat at the king's [table]. But let me go and hide in the countryside for two more nights.5 David said to Jonathan, "Behold, tomorrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to dine with the king; but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field to the third day at evening.5 And David said to Jonathan, Behold, to-morrow is new moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king at meat; but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field until the third evening.

"If your father misses me at all, then say, 'David earnestly asked leave of me to run to Bethlehem his city, because it is the yearly sacrifice there for the whole family.'6 If thy father at all miss me, then say, David earnestly asked leave of me that he might run to Bethlehem his city: for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the family.6 If your father really misses me, tell him, 'David repeatedly begged me to let him run to Bethlehem, his hometown, because his relatives are offering the annual sacrifice there.'6 If your father miss me at all, then say, 'David earnestly asked leave of me that he might run to Bethlehem his city; for it is the yearly sacrifice there for all the family.'6 If thy father should actually miss me, then say, David earnestly asked leave of me that he might run to Bethlehem his city; for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the family.
"If he says, 'It is good,' your servant will be safe; but if he is very angry, know that he has decided on evil.7 If he say thus, It is well; thy servant shall have peace: but if he be very wroth, then be sure that evil is determined by him.7 If he says, 'Good!' then I will be safe. But if he gets really angry, then you'll know for sure that he has decided to harm me.7 If he says, 'It is well;' your servant shall have peace: but if he be angry, then know that evil is determined by him.7 If he say thus, It is well, thy servant shall have peace; but if he be very wroth, be sure that evil is determined by him.
"Therefore deal kindly with your servant, for you have brought your servant into a covenant of the LORD with you. But if there is iniquity in me, put me to death yourself; for why then should you bring me to your father?"8 Therefore thou shalt deal kindly with thy servant; for thou hast brought thy servant into a covenant of the LORD with thee: notwithstanding, if there be in me iniquity, slay me thyself; for why shouldest thou bring me to thy father?8 Now, be kind to me. After all, you forced me into an agreement with the LORD. If I have committed any crime, kill me yourself. Why bother taking me to your father?"8 Therefore deal kindly with your servant; for you have brought your servant into a covenant of Yahweh with you: but if there be in me iniquity, kill me yourself; for why should you bring me to your father?"8 Deal kindly then with thy servant; for thou hast brought thy servant into a covenant of Jehovah with thee; but if there be in me iniquity, slay me thyself; for why shouldest thou bring me to thy father?
Jonathan said, "Far be it from you! For if I should indeed learn that evil has been decided by my father to come upon you, then would I not tell you about it?"9 And Jonathan said, Far be it from thee: for if I knew certainly that evil were determined by my father to come upon thee, then would not I tell it thee?9 Jonathan answered, "That's unthinkable! If I knew for sure that my father had decided to harm you, I would have told you about it."9 Jonathan said, "Far be it from you; for if I should at all know that evil were determined by my father to come on you, then wouldn't I tell you that?"9 And Jonathan said, Far be it from thee; for, if I knew with certainty that evil were determined by my father to come upon thee, would I not tell it thee?
Then David said to Jonathan, "Who will tell me if your father answers you harshly?"10 Then said David to Jonathan, Who shall tell me? or what if thy father answer thee roughly?10 Then David asked, "Who will tell me whether or not your father gives you a harsh answer?"10 Then David said to Jonathan, "Who shall tell me if perchance your father answers you roughly?"10 Then said David to Jonathan, Who shall tell me? or what if thy father answer thee roughly?

Jonathan said to David, "Come, and let us go out into the field." So both of them went out to the field.11 And Jonathan said unto David, Come, and let us go out into the field. And they went out both of them into the field.11 Jonathan said, "Let's go out into the country." So they went out into the country.11 Jonathan said to David, "Come, and let us go out into the field." They both went out into the field.11 And Jonathan said to David, Come and let us go out into the field. And they went out both of them into the field.
Then Jonathan said to David, "The LORD, the God of Israel, be witness! When I have sounded out my father about this time tomorrow, or the third day, behold, if there is good feeling toward David, shall I not then send to you and make it known to you?12 And Jonathan said unto David, O LORD God of Israel, when I have sounded my father about to morrow any time, or the third day, and, behold, if there be good toward David, and I then send not unto thee, and show it thee;12 "As the LORD God of Israel [is my witness]," Jonathan continued, "I'll find out in the next two or three days how my father feels about you. If he does feel kindly toward you, then I will send someone to tell you.12 Jonathan said to David, "Yahweh, the God of Israel, [be witness]: when I have sounded my father about this time tomorrow, [or] the third day, behold, if there be good toward David, shall I not then send to you, and disclose it to you?12 And Jonathan said to David, Jehovah, God of Israel, when I sound my father about this time to-morrow, or the next day, and behold, there be good toward David, and I then send not to thee, and apprise thee of it,
"If it please my father to do you harm, may the LORD do so to Jonathan and more also, if I do not make it known to you and send you away, that you may go in safety. And may the LORD be with you as He has been with my father.13 The LORD do so and much more to Jonathan: but if it please my father to do thee evil, then I will show it thee, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace: and the LORD be with thee, as he hath been with my father.13 If my father plans to harm you and I fail to tell you and send you away safely, may the LORD harm me even more. May the LORD be with you as he used to be with my father.13 Yahweh do so to Jonathan, and more also, should it please my father to do you evil, if I don't disclose it to you, and send you away, that you may go in peace: and Yahweh be with you, as he has been with my father.13 Jehovah do so and much more to Jonathan. Should it please my father to do thee evil, then I will apprise thee of it, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace; and Jehovah be with thee, as he has been with my father.
"If I am still alive, will you not show me the lovingkindness of the LORD, that I may not die?14 And thou shalt not only while yet I live show me the kindness of the LORD, that I die not:14 But as long as I live, [promise me that you will] show me kindness because of the LORD. And even when I die,14 You shall not only while yet I live show me the loving kindness of Yahweh, that I not die;14 And thou shalt not only while yet I live shew me the kindness of Jehovah, that I die not,
"You shall not cut off your lovingkindness from my house forever, not even when the LORD cuts off every one of the enemies of David from the face of the earth."15 But also thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house for ever: no, not when the LORD hath cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth.15 never stop being kind to my family. The Lord will wipe each of David's enemies off the face of the earth.15 but also you shall not cut off your kindness from my house forever; no, not when Yahweh has cut off the enemies of David everyone from the surface of the earth."15 but thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house for ever, no, not when Jehovah cuts off the enemies of David, every one from the face of the earth.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, "May the LORD require it at the hands of David's enemies."16 So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, Let the LORD even require it at the hand of David's enemies.16 At that time, if Jonathan's name is cut off from David's family, then may the LORD punish David's house."16 So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, "Yahweh will require it at the hand of David's enemies."16 And Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, Let Jehovah even require it at the hand of David's enemies!
Jonathan made David vow again because of his love for him, because he loved him as he loved his own life.17 And Jonathan caused David to swear again, because he loved him: for he loved him as he loved his own soul.17 Once again Jonathan swore an oath to David because of his love for David. He loved David as much as [he loved] himself.17 Jonathan caused David to swear again, for the love that he had to him; for he loved him as he loved his own soul.17 And Jonathan caused David to swear again, by the love he had for him, for he loved him as he loved his own soul.
 Then Jonathan said to him, "Tomorrow is the new moon, and you will be missed because your seat will be empty.18 Then Jonathan said to David, To morrow is the new moon: and thou shalt be missed, because thy seat will be empty.18 "Tomorrow is the New Moon Festival," Jonathan told him, "and you will be missed when your seat is empty.18 Then Jonathan said to him, "Tomorrow is the new moon: and you will be missed, because your seat will be empty.18 And Jonathan said to him, To-morrow is the new moon; and thou wilt be missed, for thy seat will be empty;
"When you have stayed for three days, you shall go down quickly and come to the place where you hid yourself on that eventful day, and you shall remain by the stone Ezel.19 And when thou hast stayed three days, then thou shalt go down quickly, and come to the place where thou didst hide thyself when the business was in hand, and shalt remain by the stone Ezel.19 The day after tomorrow you will be missed even more. So go to the place where you hid on that other occasion, and stay by the rock. 19 When you have stayed three days, you shall go down quickly, and come to the place where you did hide yourself when the business was in hand, and shall remain by the stone Ezel.19 but on the third day thou shalt go down quickly, and come to the place where thou didst hide thyself on the day of the business, and abide by the stone Ezel.
"I will shoot three arrows to the side, as though I shot at a target.20 And I will shoot three arrows on the side thereof, as though I shot at a mark.20 I will shoot three arrows from beside it toward a target.20 I will shoot three arrows on its side, as though I shot at a mark.20 And I will shoot three arrows on the side of it, as though I shot at a mark.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
"And behold, I will send the lad, saying, 'Go, find the arrows.' If I specifically say to the lad, 'Behold, the arrows are on this side of you, get them,' then come; for there is safety for you and no harm, as the LORD lives.21 And, behold, I will send a lad, saying, Go, find out the arrows. If I expressly say unto the lad, Behold, the arrows are on this side of thee, take them; then come thou: for there is peace to thee, and no hurt; as the LORD liveth.21 Then I will send out a boy and say, 'Go, find the arrows.' Now, if I tell the boy, 'Look, the arrows are next to you; get them,' then come [back with me]. You will be safe, and there will be no trouble. I swear it, as the LORD lives.21 Behold, I will send the boy, saying, 'Go, find the arrows!' If I tell the boy, 'Behold, the arrows are on this side of you. Take them;' then come; for there is peace to you and no hurt, as Yahweh lives.21 And behold, I will send the lad, saying, Go, find the arrows. If I expressly say to the lad, Behold, the arrows are on this side of thee, take them; then come, for there is peace for thee, and it is nothing; as Jehovah liveth.
"But if I say to the youth, 'Behold, the arrows are beyond you,' go, for the LORD has sent you away.22 But if I say thus unto the young man, Behold, the arrows are beyond thee; go thy way: for the LORD hath sent thee away.22 But if I tell the boy, 'The arrows are next to you,' then go, because the LORD has sent you away.22 But if I say this to the boy, 'Behold, the arrows are beyond you;' then go your way; for Yahweh has sent you away.22 But if I say thus to the youth: Behold, the arrows are beyond thee, go thy way; for Jehovah sends thee away.
"As for the agreement of which you and I have spoken, behold, the LORD is between you and me forever."23 And as touching the matter which thou and I have spoken of, behold, the LORD be between thee and me for ever.23 We have made a promise to each other, and the LORD is [a witness] between you and me forever."23 Concerning the matter which you and I have spoken of, behold, Yahweh is between you and me forever."23 And as to the matter which thou and I have spoken of, behold, Jehovah is between me and thee for ever.
So David hid in the field; and when the new moon came, the king sat down to eat food.24 So David hid himself in the field: and when the new moon was come, the king sat him down to eat meat.24 So David hid in the countryside. When the New Moon Festival came, King Saul sat down to eat the festival meal.24 So David hid himself in the field: and when the new moon was come, the king sat him down to eat food.24 And David hid himself in the field; and it was the new moon, and the king sat at table to eat.
The king sat on his seat as usual, the seat by the wall; then Jonathan rose up and Abner sat down by Saul's side, but David's place was empty.25 And the king sat upon his seat, as at other times, even upon a seat by the wall: and Jonathan arose, and Abner sat by Saul's side, and David's place was empty.25 He sat in his usual seat by the wall, while Jonathan stood. Abner sat beside Saul, but David's place was empty.25 The king sat on his seat, as at other times, even on the seat by the wall; and Jonathan stood up, and Abner sat by Saul's side: but David's place was empty.25 And the king sat on his seat, as at other times, on the seat by the wall; and Jonathan arose, and Abner sat by Saul's side, and David's place was empty.

Nevertheless Saul did not speak anything that day, for he thought, "It is an accident, he is not clean, surely he is not clean."26 Nevertheless Saul spake not any thing that day: for he thought, Something hath befallen him, he is not clean; surely he is not clean.26 Saul didn't say anything that day, thinking, "Something has happened to him so that he's unclean. He must be unclean." 26 Nevertheless Saul didn't say anything that day: for he thought, "Something has happened to him. He is not clean. Surely he is not clean."26 And Saul said nothing that day; for he thought, Something has befallen him, that he is not clean: surely he is not clean.
It came about the next day, the second day of the new moon, that David's place was empty; so Saul said to Jonathan his son, "Why has the son of Jesse not come to the meal, either yesterday or today?"27 And it came to pass on the morrow, which was the second day of the month, that David's place was empty: and Saul said unto Jonathan his son, Wherefore cometh not the son of Jesse to meat, neither yesterday, nor to day?27 But on the second day of the month, David's place was still empty. Saul asked his son Jonathan, "Why hasn't Jesse's son come to the meal either yesterday or today?"27 It happened on the next day after the new moon, the second day, that David's place was empty. Saul said to Jonathan his son, "Why doesn't the son of Jesse come to eat, neither yesterday, nor today?"27 And it came to pass the next day after the new moon, the second day of the month, as David's place was empty, that Saul said to Jonathan his son, Why has not the son of Jesse come to table, neither yesterday nor to-day?
Jonathan then answered Saul, "David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Bethlehem,28 And Jonathan answered Saul, David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Bethlehem:28 Jonathan answered Saul, "David repeatedly begged me [to let him go] to Bethlehem.28 Jonathan answered Saul, "David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Bethlehem.28 And Jonathan answered Saul, David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Bethlehem,
for he said, 'Please let me go, since our family has a sacrifice in the city, and my brother has commanded me to attend. And now, if I have found favor in your sight, please let me get away that I may see my brothers.' For this reason he has not come to the king's table."29 And he said, Let me go, I pray thee; for our family hath a sacrifice in the city; and my brother, he hath commanded me to be there: and now, if I have found favor in thine eyes, let me get away, I pray thee, and see my brethren. Therefore he cometh not unto the king's table.29 David said to me 'Please let me go. Our relatives will offer a sacrifice in the city, and my brother ordered me to be there. If you will permit it, please let me go to see my brothers.' This is why he hasn't come to your banquet."29 He said, 'Please let me go, for our family has a sacrifice in the city. My brother has commanded me to be there. Now, if I have found favor in your eyes, please let me go away and see my brothers.' Therefore he has not come to the king's table."29 and said, Let me go, I pray thee; for we have a family sacrifice in the city; and my brother himself has commanded me to be there; and now, if I have found favour in thy sight, let me go away, I pray thee, and see my brethren. He has therefore not come to the king's table.
Saul Is Angry with Jonathan
Then Saul's anger burned against Jonathan and he said to him, "You son of a perverse, rebellious woman! Do I not know that you are choosing the son of Jesse to your own shame and to the shame of your mother's nakedness?30 Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said unto him, Thou son of the perverse rebellious woman, do not I know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thine own confusion, and unto the confusion of thy mother's nakedness?30 Then Saul got angry with Jonathan. "Son of a crooked and rebellious woman!" he called Jonathan. "I know you've sided with Jesse's son. You have no shame. [You act] as if you are your mother's son but not mine. 30 Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said to him, "You son of a perverse rebellious woman, don't I know that you have chosen the son of Jesse to your own shame, and to the shame of your mother's nakedness?30 And Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said to him, Son of the perverse rebellious woman, do not I know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thine own shame and to the shame of thy mother's nakedness?
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
"For as long as the son of Jesse lives on the earth, neither you nor your kingdom will be established. Therefore now, send and bring him to me, for he must surely die."31 For as long as the son of Jesse liveth upon the ground, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom. Wherefore now send and fetch him unto me, for he shall surely die.31 As long as Jesse's son lives on earth, neither you nor your right to be king is secure. Now, send some men to bring him to me. He's a dead man!"31 For as long as the son of Jesse lives on the earth, you shall not be established, nor your kingdom. Therefore now send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die!"31 For as long as the son of Jesse lives upon earth, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom. And now send and fetch him to me, for he must die.
But Jonathan answered Saul his father and said to him, "Why should he be put to death? What has he done?"32 And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said unto him, Wherefore shall he be slain? what hath he done?32 Jonathan asked his father, "Why should he be killed? What has he done?"32 Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said to him, "Why should he be put to death? What has he done?"32 And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said to him, Why should he be put to death? what has he done?
Then Saul hurled his spear at him to strike him down; so Jonathan knew that his father had decided to put David to death.33 And Saul cast a javelin at him to smite him: whereby Jonathan knew that it was determined of his father to slay David.33 Saul raised his spear to strike him. Then Jonathan knew his father was determined to kill David.33 Saul cast his spear at him to strike him. By this Jonathan knew that his father was determined to put David to death.33 Then Saul cast the spear at him to smite him; and Jonathan knew that it was determined by his father to put David to death.
Then Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and did not eat food on the second day of the new moon, for he was grieved over David because his father had dishonored him.34 So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and did eat no meat the second day of the month: for he was grieved for David, because his father had done him shame.34 Jonathan got up from the table very angry and ate nothing that second day of the month. He was worried sick about David because Jonathan had been humiliated by his own father.34 So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and ate no food the second day of the month; for he was grieved for David, because his father had done him shame.34 And Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and ate no meat the second day of the new moon; for he was grieved for David, because his father had done him shame.
Now it came about in the morning that Jonathan went out into the field for the appointment with David, and a little lad was with him.35 And it came to pass in the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little lad with him.35 In the morning Jonathan went out to the country to the place he and David had agreed on. Jonathan had a young boy with him.35 It happened in the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little boy with him.35 And it came to pass in the morning that Jonathan went out into the field, to the place agreed on with David, and a little lad with him.

He said to his lad, "Run, find now the arrows which I am about to shoot." As the lad was running, he shot an arrow past him.36 And he said unto his lad, Run, find out now the arrows which I shoot. And as the lad ran, he shot an arrow beyond him.36 "Run," he told the boy, "please find the arrows I shoot." The boy ran, and Jonathan shot the arrow over him.36 He said to his boy, "Run, find now the arrows which I shoot." As the boy ran, he shot an arrow beyond him.36 And he said to his lad, Run, find now the arrows which I shoot. The lad ran, and he shot the arrow beyond him.
When the lad reached the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan called after the lad and said, "Is not the arrow beyond you?"37 And when the lad was come to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan cried after the lad, and said, Is not the arrow beyond thee?37 When the boy reached the place where Jonathan's arrow [had landed], Jonathan called after him, "The arrows are next to you!"37 When the boy was come to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan cried after the boy, and said, "Isn't the arrow beyond you?"37 And when the lad came to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan cried after the lad and said, Is not the arrow away beyond thee?
And Jonathan called after the lad, "Hurry, be quick, do not stay!" And Jonathan's lad picked up the arrow and came to his master.38 And Jonathan cried after the lad, Make speed, haste, stay not. And Jonathan's lad gathered up the arrows, and came to his master.38 Jonathan added, "Quick! Hurry up! Don't stand there!" Jonathan's young servant gathered the arrows and came to his master.38 Jonathan cried after the boy, "Go fast! Hurry! Don't delay!" Jonathan's boy gathered up the arrows, and came to his master.38 And Jonathan cried after the lad, Make speed, haste, stay not! And Jonathan's lad gathered up the arrows, and came to his master.
But the lad was not aware of anything; only Jonathan and David knew about the matter.39 But the lad knew not any thing: only Jonathan and David knew the matter.39 The boy had no idea what was going on, but Jonathan and David understood.39 But the boy didn't know anything. Only Jonathan and David knew the matter.39 And the lad knew nothing: only Jonathan and David knew the matter.
Then Jonathan gave his weapons to his lad and said to him, "Go, bring them to the city."40 And Jonathan gave his artillery unto his lad, and said unto him, Go, carry them to the city.40 Then Jonathan gave his weapons to the boy. He told the boy, "Take them back into town."40 Jonathan gave his weapons to his boy, and said to him, "Go, carry them to the city."40 And Jonathan gave his weapons to his lad, and said to him, Go, carry them to the city.

When the lad was gone, David rose from the south side and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed three times. And they kissed each other and wept together, but David wept the more.41 And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded.41 When the boy had left, David came out from the south side [of the rock] and quickly bowed down three times with his face touching the ground. Then they kissed each other and cried together, but David cried the loudest. 41 As soon as the boy was gone, David arose out of [a place] toward the South, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times. They kissed one another, and wept one with another, and David wept the most.41 The lad went, and David arose from the side of the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times; and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded.
Jonathan said to David, "Go in safety, inasmuch as we have sworn to each other in the name of the LORD, saying, 'The LORD will be between me and you, and between my descendants and your descendants forever.'" Then he rose and departed, while Jonathan went into the city.42 And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, forasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of the LORD, saying, The LORD be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed for ever. And he arose and departed: and Jonathan went into the city.42 "Go in peace!" Jonathan told David. "We have both taken an oath in the LORD's name, saying, 'The LORD will be [a witness] between me and you and between my descendants and your descendants forever.' " So David left, and Jonathan went into the city.42 Jonathan said to David, "Go in peace, because we have both sworn in the name of Yahweh, saying, 'Yahweh shall be between me and you, and between my seed and your seed, forever.'" He arose and departed; and Jonathan went into the city.42 And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, forasmuch as we have both of us sworn in the name of Jehovah, saying, Jehovah be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed for ever! And he arose and departed; and Jonathan went into the city.
