A Call to Prayer | ||||
NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
1 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, | 1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; | 1 First of all, I encourage you to make petitions, prayers, intercessions, and prayers of thanks for all people, | 1 I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks, be made for all men: | 1 I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings be made for all men; | 2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. | 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. | 2 for rulers, and for everyone who has authority over us. Pray for these people so that we can have a quiet and peaceful life always lived in a godly and reverent way. | 2 for kings and all who are in high places; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence. | 2 for kings and all that are in dignity, that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all piety and gravity; | 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, | 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; | 3 This is good and pleases God our Savior. | 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; | 3 for this is good and acceptable before our Saviour God, | 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. | 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. | 4 He wants all people to be saved and to learn the truth. | 4 who desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth. | 4 who desires that all men should be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. | 5 For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, | 5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; | 5 There is one God. There is also one mediator between God and humans-a human, Christ Jesus. | 5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, | 5 For God is one, and the mediator of God and men one, the man Christ Jesus, | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
6 who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time. | 6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. | 6 He sacrificed himself for all people to free them from their sins. This message is valid for every era. | 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all; the testimony in its own times; | 6 who gave himself a ransom for all, the testimony to be rendered in its own times; | 7 For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. | 7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. | 7 I was appointed to spread this Good News and to be an apostle to teach people who are not Jewish about faith and truth. I'm telling you the truth. I'm not lying. | 7 to which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth in Christ, not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. | 7 to which I have been appointed a herald and apostle, (I speak the truth, I do not lie,) a teacher of the nations in faith and truth. | 8 Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension. | 8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. | 8 I want men to offer prayers everywhere. They should raise their hands in prayer after putting aside their anger and any quarrels they have with anyone. | 8 I desire therefore that the men in every place pray, lifting up holy hands without anger and doubting. | 8 I will therefore that the men pray in every place, lifting up pious hands, without wrath or reasoning. | Women Instructed |
9 Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, | 9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; | 9 I want women to show their beauty by dressing in appropriate clothes that are modest and respectable. Their beauty will be shown by what they do, not by their hair styles or the gold jewelry, pearls, or expensive clothes they wear. | 9 In the same way, that women also adorn themselves in decent clothing, with modesty and propriety; not just with braided hair, gold, pearls, or expensive clothing; | 9 In like manner also that the women in decent deportment and dress adorn themselves with modesty and discretion, not with plaited hair and gold, or pearls, or costly clothing, | 10 but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness. | 10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. | 10 This is what is proper for women who claim to have reverence for God. | 10 but (which becomes women professing godliness) with good works. | 10 but, what becomes women making profession of the fear of God, by good works. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
11 A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. | 11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. | 11 A woman must learn in silence, in keeping with her position. | 11 Let a woman learn in quietness with all subjection. | 11 Let a woman learn in quietness in all subjection; | 12 But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. | 12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. | 12 I don't allow a woman to teach or to have authority over a man. Instead, she should be quiet. | 12 But I don't permit a woman to teach, nor to exercise authority over a man, but to be in quietness. | 12 but I do not suffer a woman to teach nor to exercise authority over man, but to be in quietness; | 13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. | 13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. | 13 After all, Adam was formed first, then Eve. | 13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. | 13 for Adam was formed first, then Eve: | 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. | 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. | 14 Besides that, Adam was not deceived. It was the woman who was deceived and sinned. | 14 Adam wasn't deceived, but the woman, being deceived, has fallen into disobedience; | 14 and Adam was not deceived; but the woman, having been deceived, was in transgression. | 15 But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint. | 15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety. | 15 However, she [and all women] will be saved through the birth of the child, if they lead respectable lives in faith, love, and holiness. | 15 but she will be saved through her childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and sanctification with sobriety. | 15 But she shall be preserved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and love and holiness with discretion. |
