Growth in Christian Virtue
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ:1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:1 From Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ. To those who have obtained a faith that is as valuable as ours, a faith based on the approval that comes from our God and Savior, Jesus Christ.1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained a like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ:1 Simon Peter, bondman and apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have received like precious faith with us through the righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ:
2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,2 May good will and peace fill your lives through your knowledge about Jesus, our God and Lord! 2 Grace to you and peace be multiplied in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:3 God's divine power has given us everything we need for life and for godliness. This power was given to us through knowledge of the one who called us by his own glory and integrity.3 seeing that his divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and virtue;3 As his divine power has given to us all things which relate to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that has called us by glory and virtue,
4 For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.4 Through his glory and integrity he has given us his promises that are of the highest value. Through these promises you will share in the divine nature because you have escaped the corruption that sinful desires cause in the world.4 by which he has granted to us his precious and exceedingly great promises; that through these you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world by lust.4 through which he has given to us the greatest and precious promises, that through these ye may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5 Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge,5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;5 Because of this, make every effort to add integrity to your faith; and to integrity add knowledge;5 Yes, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence; and in moral excellence, knowledge;5 But for this very reason also, using therewith all diligence, in your faith have also virtue, in virtue knowledge,
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness,6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;6 to knowledge add self-control; to self-control add endurance; to endurance add godliness;6 and in knowledge, self-control; and in self-control patience; and in patience godliness;6 in knowledge temperance, in temperance endurance, in endurance godliness,
7 and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.7 to godliness add Christian affection; and to Christian affection add love.7 and in godliness brotherly affection; and in brotherly affection, love.7 in godliness brotherly love, in brotherly love love:
8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.8 If you have these qualities and they are increasing, it demonstrates that your knowledge about our Lord Jesus Christ is living and productive.8 For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to be not idle nor unfruitful to the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.8 for these things existing and abounding in you make you to be neither idle nor unfruitful as regards the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ;
9 For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.9 If these qualities aren't present in your life, you're shortsighted and have forgotten that you were cleansed from your past sins.9 For he who lacks these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins.9 for he with whom these things are not present is blind, short-sighted, and has forgotten the purging of his former sins.
10 Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble;10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:10 Therefore, brothers and sisters, use more effort to make God's calling and choosing of you secure. If you keep doing this, you will never fall away.10 Therefore, brothers, be more diligent to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never stumble.10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, use diligence to make your calling and election sure, for doing these things ye will never fall;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.11 Then you will also be given the wealth of entering into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.11 For thus you will be richly supplied with the entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.11 for thus shall the entrance into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ be richly furnished unto you.
12 Therefore, I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in the truth which is present with you.12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.12 Therefore, I will always remind you about these qualities, although you already know about them and are well-grounded in the truth that you now have.12 Therefore I will not be negligent to remind you of these things, though you know them, and are established in the present truth.12 Wherefore I will be careful to put you always in mind of these things, although knowing them and established in the present truth.
13 I consider it right, as long as I am in this earthly dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder,13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;13 As long as I'm still alive, I think it's right to refresh your memory.13 I think it right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you;13 But I account it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance,
14 knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.14 I know that I will die soon. Our Lord Jesus Christ has made that clear to me.14 knowing that the putting off of my tent comes swiftly, even as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me.14 knowing that the putting off of my tabernacle is speedily to take place, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has manifested to me;
15 And I will also be diligent that at any time after my departure you will be able to call these things to mind.15 Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.15 So I will make every effort to see that you remember these things after I die.15 Yes, I will make every effort that you may always be able to remember these things even after my departure.15 but I will use diligence, that after my departure ye should have also, at any time, in your power to call to mind these things.
Eyewitnesses
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.16 When we apostles told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, we didn't base our message on clever myths that we made up. Rather, we witnessed his majesty with our own eyes.16 For we did not follow cunningly devised fables, when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.16 For we have not made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, following cleverly imagined fables, but having been eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17 For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, "This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased "--17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.17 For example, we were eyewitnesses when he received honor and glory from God the Father and when the voice of our majestic God spoke these words to him: "This is my Son, whom I love and in whom I delight."17 For he received from God the Father honor and glory, when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, such a voice being uttered to him by the excellent glory: This is my beloved Son, in whom I have found my delight;
18 and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.18 We heard that voice speak to him from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.18 We heard this voice come out of heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.18 and this voice we heard uttered from heaven, being with him on the holy mountain.
19 So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts.19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:19 So we regard the words of the prophets as confirmed beyond all doubt. You're doing well by paying attention to their words. Continue to pay attention as you would to a light that shines in a dark place as you wait for day to come and the morning star to rise in your hearts.19 We have the more sure word of prophecy; and you do well that you heed it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns, and the morning star arises in your hearts:19 And we have the prophetic word made surer, to which ye do well taking heed (as to a lamp shining in an obscure place) until the day dawn and the morning star arise in your hearts;
20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation,20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.20 First, you must understand this: No prophecy in Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation.20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of private interpretation.20 knowing this first, that the scope of no prophecy of scripture is had from its own particular interpretation,
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.21 No prophecy ever originated from humans. Instead, it was given by the Holy Spirit as humans spoke under God's direction.21 For no prophecy ever came by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke, being moved by the Holy Spirit.21 for prophecy was not ever uttered by the will of man, but holy men of God spake under the power of the Holy Spirit.
