Serve God Willingly | ||||
NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
1 Therefore, I exhort the elders among you, as your fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker also of the glory that is to be revealed, | 1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: | 1 I appeal to your spiritual leaders. I make this appeal as a spiritual leader who also witnessed Christ's sufferings and will share in the glory that will be revealed. | 1 I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and who will also share in the glory that will be revealed. | 1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am their fellow-elder and witness of the sufferings of the Christ, who also am partaker of the glory about to be revealed: | 2 shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness; | 2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; | 2 Be shepherds over the flock God has entrusted to you. Watch over it as God does: Don't do this because you have to, but because you want to. Don't do it out of greed, but out of a desire to serve. | 2 Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, exercising the oversight, not under compulsion, but voluntarily, not for dishonest gain, but willingly; | 2 shepherd the flock of God which is among you, exercising oversight, not by necessity, but willingly; not for base gain, but readily; | 3 nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock. | 3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. | 3 Don't be rulers over the people entrusted to you, but be examples for the flock to follow. | 3 neither as lording it over those entrusted to you, but making yourselves examples to the flock. | 3 not as lording it over your possessions, but being models for the flock. | 4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. | 4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. | 4 Then, when the chief shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away. | 4 When the chief Shepherd is revealed, you will receive the crown of glory that doesn't fade away. | 4 And when the chief shepherd is manifested ye shall receive the unfading crown of glory. | 5 You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE. | 5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. | 5 Young people, in a similar way, place yourselves under the authority of spiritual leaders. Furthermore, all of you must serve each other with humility, because God opposes the arrogant but favors the humble. | 5 Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you clothe yourselves with humility, to subject yourselves to one another; for "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." | 5 Likewise ye younger, be subject to the elder, and all of you bind on humility towards one another; for God sets himself against the proud, but to the humble gives grace. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, | 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: | 6 Be humbled by God's power so that when the right time comes he will honor you. | 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; | 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in the due time; | 7 casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. | 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. | 7 Turn all your anxiety over to God because he cares for you. | 7 casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. | 7 having cast all your care upon him, for he cares about you. | 8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. | 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: | 8 Keep your mind clear, and be alert. Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion as he looks for someone to devour. | 8 Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. | 8 Be vigilant, watch. Your adversary the devil as a roaring lion walks about seeking whom he may devour. | 9 But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world. | 9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. | 9 Be firm in the faith and resist him, knowing that other believers throughout the world are going through the same kind of suffering. | 9 Withstand him steadfast in your faith, knowing that your brothers who are in the world are undergoing the same sufferings. | 9 Whom resist, stedfast in faith, knowing that the selfsame sufferings are accomplished in your brotherhood which is in the world. | 10 After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you. | 10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. | 10 God, who shows you his kindness and who has called you through Christ Jesus to his eternal glory, will restore you, strengthen you, make you strong, and support you as you suffer for a little while. | 10 But may the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. | 10 But the God of all grace who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, when ye have suffered for a little while, himself shall make perfect, stablish, strengthen, ground: | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
