1 "You are the sons of the LORD your God; you shall not cut yourselves nor shave your forehead for the sake of the dead. | 1 Ye are the children of the LORD your God: ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead. | 1 You are the children of the LORD your God. So when someone dies, don't [mourn] by cutting yourselves or shaving bald spots on your head. | 1 You are the children of Yahweh your God: you shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead. | 1 Ye are sons of Jehovah your God: ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for a dead person. | 2 "For you are a holy people to the LORD your God, and the LORD has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. | 2 For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth. | 2 You are people who are holy to the LORD your God. Out of all the people who live on earth, the LORD has chosen you to be his own special possession. | 2 For you are a holy people to Yahweh your God, and Yahweh has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples who are on the face of the earth. | 2 For thou art a holy people unto Jehovah thy God, and thee hath Jehovah chosen for a people of possession unto himself, out of all the peoples that are upon the face of the earth. | 3 "You shall not eat any detestable thing. | 3 Thou shalt not eat any abominable thing. | 3 Never eat anything that is disgusting to the LORD. | 3 You shall not eat any abominable thing. | 3 Thou shalt not eat any abominable thing. | 4 "These are the animals which you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat, | 4 These are the beasts which ye shall eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat, | 4 Here are the [kinds of] animals you may eat: oxen, sheep, goats, | 4 These are the animals which you may eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat, | 4 These are the beasts which ye shall eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat; | 5 the deer, the gazelle, the roebuck, the wild goat, the ibex, the antelope and the mountain sheep. | 5 The hart, and the roebuck, and the fallow deer, and the wild goat, and the pygarg, and the wild ox, and the chamois. | 5 deer, gazelles, fallow deer, wild goats, mountain goats, antelope, and mountain sheep. | 5 the hart, and the gazelle, and the roebuck, and the wild goat, and the ibex, and the antelope, and the chamois. | 5 the hart, and the gazelle, and the stag, and the wild goat, and the dishon and the oryx, and the wild sheep. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
6 "Any animal that divides the hoof and has the hoof split in two and chews the cud, among the animals, that you may eat. | 6 And every beast that parteth the hoof, and cleaveth the cleft into two claws, and cheweth the cud among the beasts, that ye shall eat. | 6 You may eat all animals that have completely divided hoofs and that also chew their cud. | 6 Every animal that parts the hoof, and has the hoof cloven in two, [and] chews the cud, among the animals, that may you eat. | 6 And every beast that hath cloven hoofs, and the feet quite split open into double hoofs, and which cheweth the cud, among the beasts, that ye shall eat. | 7 "Nevertheless, you are not to eat of these among those which chew the cud, or among those that divide the hoof in two: the camel and the rabbit and the shaphan, for though they chew the cud, they do not divide the hoof; they are unclean for you. | 7 Nevertheless these ye shall not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the cloven hoof; as the camel, and the hare, and the coney: for they chew the cud, but divide not the hoof; therefore they are unclean unto you. | 7 But some animals chew their cud, while others have completely divided hoofs. You may not eat these [kinds of] animals. They include camels, rabbits, and rock badgers. (Although they chew their cud, they don't have divided hoofs. They are unclean for you.) | 7 Nevertheless these you shall not eat of them that chew the cud, or of those who have the hoof cloven: the camel, and the hare, and the rabbit; because they chew the cud but don't part the hoof, they are unclean to you. | 7 Only these ye shall not eat of those that chew the cud, or of those with hoofs cloven and split open: the camel, and the hare, and the rock-badger; for they chew the cud, but have not cloven hoofs they shall be unclean unto you; | 8 "The pig, because it divides the hoof but does not chew the cud, it is unclean for you. You shall not eat any of their flesh nor touch their carcasses. | 8 And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcass. | 8 Also, you may not eat pigs. (Although their hoofs are divided, they don't chew their cud.) Never eat their meat or touch their dead bodies. | 8 The pig, because it has a split hoof but doesn't chew the cud, is unclean to you: of their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall not touch. | 8 and the swine, for it hath cloven hoofs, yet cheweth not the cud it shall be unclean unto you. Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcase shall ye not touch. | 9 "These you may eat of all that are in water: anything that has fins and scales you may eat, | 9 These ye shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have fins and scales shall ye eat: | 9 Here's what you may eat of every creature that lives in the water: You may eat any creature that has fins and scales. | 9 These you may eat of all that are in the waters: whatever has fins and scales may you eat; | 9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales shall ye eat; | 10 but anything that does not have fins and scales you shall not eat; it is unclean for you. | 10 And whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye may not eat; it is unclean unto you. | 10 But never eat anything that doesn't have fins and scales. It is unclean for you. | 10 and whatever doesn't have fins and scales you shall not eat; it is unclean to you. | 10 but whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye shall not eat: it shall be unclean unto you. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
11 "You may eat any clean bird. | 11 Of all clean birds ye shall eat. | 11 You may eat any clean bird. | 11 Of all clean birds you may eat. | 11 All clean birds shall ye eat. | 12 "But these are the ones which you shall not eat: the eagle and the vulture and the buzzard, | 12 But these are they of which ye shall not eat: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray, | 12 But here are the birds that you should never eat: eagles, bearded vultures, black vultures, | 12 But these are they of which you shall not eat: the eagle, and the vulture, and the osprey, | 12 But these are they of which ye shall not eat: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the sea-eagle, | 13 and the red kite, the falcon, and the kite in their kinds, | 13 And the glede, and the kite, and the vulture after his kind, | 13 buzzards, all types of kites, | 13 and the red kite, and the falcon, and the kite after its kind, | 13 and the falcon, and the kite, and the black kite after its kind; | 14 and every raven in its kind, | 14 And every raven after his kind, | 14 all types of crows, | 14 and every raven after its kind, | 14 and every raven after its kind; | 15 and the ostrich, the owl, the sea gull, and the hawk in their kinds, | 15 And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckoo, and the hawk after his kind, | 15 ostriches, nighthawks, seagulls, all types of falcons, | 15 and the ostrich, and the owl, and the seagull, and the hawk after its kind, | 15 and the female ostrich, and the male ostrich, and the sea-gull, and the hawk after its kind; | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
16 the little owl, the great owl, the white owl, | 16 The little owl, and the great owl, and the swan, | 16 little owls, great owls, barn owls, | 16 the little owl, and the great owl, and the horned owl, | 16 the owl, and the ibis and the swan, | 17 the pelican, the carrion vulture, the cormorant, | 17 And the pelican, and the gier eagle, and the cormorant, | 17 pelicans, ospreys, cormorants, | 17 and the pelican, and the vulture, and the cormorant, | 17 and the pelican, and the carrion vulture, and the gannet, | 18 the stork, and the heron in their kinds, and the hoopoe and the bat. | 18 And the stork, and the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat. | 18 storks, all types of herons, hoopoes, and bats. | 18 and the stork, and the heron after its kind, and the hoopoe, and the bat. | 18 and the stork, and the heron after its kind, and the hoopoe, and the bat. | 19 "And all the teeming life with wings are unclean to you; they shall not be eaten. | 19 And every creeping thing that flieth is unclean unto you: they shall not be eaten. | 19 Every swarming, winged insect is also unclean for you. They must never be eaten. | 19 All winged creeping things are unclean to you: they shall not be eaten. | 19 And every winged crawling thing shall be unclean unto you; they shall not be eaten. | 20 "You may eat any clean bird. | 20 But of all clean fowls ye may eat. | 20 However, you may eat any [other kind of] flying creature that is clean. | 20 Of all clean birds you may eat. | 20 All clean fowls shall ye eat. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
21 "You shall not eat anything which dies of itself. You may give it to the alien who is in your town, so that he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner, for you are a holy people to the LORD your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother's milk. | 21 Ye shall not eat of anything that dieth of itself: thou shalt give it unto the stranger that is in thy gates, that he may eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto an alien: for thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk. | 21 Never eat any creature that dies naturally. You may give it to the foreigners who live in your cities, and they may eat it. You may also sell it to foreigners who are visiting. But you are people who are holy to the LORD your God. Never cook a young goat in its mother's milk. | 21 You shall not eat of anything that dies of itself: you may give it to the foreigner living among you who is within your gates, that he may eat it; or you may sell it to a foreigner: for you are a holy people to Yahweh your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother's milk. | 21 Ye shall eat of no carcase; thou shalt give it unto the stranger that is within thy gates, that he may eat it, or sell it unto a foreigner; for thou art a holy people to Jehovah thy God. Thou shalt not boil a kid in its mother's milk. | 22 "You shall surely tithe all the produce from what you sow, which comes out of the field every year. | 22 Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year. | 22 Every year be sure to save a tenth of the crops harvested from whatever you plant in your fields. | 22 You shall surely tithe all the increase of your seed, that which comes forth from the field year by year. | 22 Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, the produce of the field, year by year. | 23 "You shall eat in the presence of the LORD your God, at the place where He chooses to establish His name, the tithe of your grain, your new wine, your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and your flock, so that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always. | 23 And thou shalt eat before the LORD thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the LORD thy God always. | 23 Eat the tenth of your grain, new wine, and olive oil, and eat the firstborn of your cattle, sheep, and goats in the presence of the LORD your God in the place he will choose to put his name. Then you will learn to fear the LORD your God as long as you live. | 23 You shall eat before Yahweh your God, in the place which he shall choose, to cause his name to dwell there, the tithe of your grain, of your new wine, and of your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and of your flock; that you may learn to fear Yahweh your God always. | 23 And thou shalt eat before Jehovah thy God, in the place which he will choose to cause his name to dwell there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy new wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear Jehovah thy God continually. | 24 "If the distance is so great for you that you are not able to bring the tithe, since the place where the LORD your God chooses to set His name is too far away from you when the LORD your God blesses you, | 24 And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the LORD thy God hath blessed thee: | 24 But the place the LORD your God will choose to put his name may be too far away. He may bless you with so much that you can't carry a tenth of your income that far. | 24 If the way is too long for you, so that you are not able to carry it, because the place is too far from you, which Yahweh your God shall choose, to set his name there, when Yahweh your God shall bless you; | 24 And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it, because the place is too far from thee, which Jehovah thy God will choose to set his name there, when Jehovah thy God blesseth thee; | 25 then you shall exchange it for money, and bind the money in your hand and go to the place which the LORD your God chooses. | 25 Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose: | 25 If so, exchange the tenth part of your income for silver. Take the silver with you, and go to the place the LORD your God will choose. | 25 then you shall turn it into money, and bind up the money in your hand, and shall go to the place which Yahweh your God shall choose: | 25 then shalt thou give it for money, and bind the money together in thy hand, and go to the place which Jehovah thy God will choose, | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
26 "You may spend the money for whatever your heart desires: for oxen, or sheep, or wine, or strong drink, or whatever your heart desires; and there you shall eat in the presence of the LORD your God and rejoice, you and your household. | 26 And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household, | 26 Use the silver to buy whatever you want: cattle, sheep, goats, wine, liquor-whatever you choose. Then you and your family will eat and enjoy yourselves there in the presence of the LORD your God. | 26 and you shall bestow the money for whatever your soul desires, for cattle, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatever your soul asks of you; and you shall eat there before Yahweh your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your household. | 26 and thou shalt give the money for whatever thy soul desireth, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatever thy soul asketh of thee; and thou shalt eat there before Jehovah thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thy house. | 27 "Also you shall not neglect the Levite who is in your town, for he has no portion or inheritance among you. | 27 And the Levite that is within thy gates; thou shalt not forsake him; for he hath no part nor inheritance with thee. | 27 Never forget to take care of the Levites who live in your cities. They have no land of their own as you have. | 27 The Levite who is within your gates, you shall not forsake him; for he has no portion nor inheritance with you. | 27 And thou shalt not forsake the Levite that is within thy gates; for he hath no portion nor inheritance with thee. | 28 "At the end of every third year you shall bring out all the tithe of your produce in that year, and shall deposit it in your town. | 28 At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy gates: | 28 At the end of every third year bring a tenth of that year's crop, and store it in your cities. | 28 At the end of every three years you shall bring forth all the tithe of your increase in the same year, and shall lay it up within your gates: | 28 At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy gates; | 29 "The Levite, because he has no portion or inheritance among you, and the alien, the orphan and the widow who are in your town, shall come and eat and be satisfied, in order that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do. | 29 And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest. | 29 Foreigners, orphans, and widows who live in your cities may come to eat all they want. The Levites may also come because they have no land of their own as you have. Then the LORD your God will bless you in whatever work you do. | 29 and the Levite, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you, and the foreigner living among you, and the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that Yahweh your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do. | 29 and the Levite for he hath no portion nor inheritance with thee and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that Jehovah thy God may bless thee in all the work of thy hand which thou doest. |
