Unity of the Spirit
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called,1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,1 I, a prisoner in the Lord, encourage you to live the kind of life which proves that God has called you.1 I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to walk worthily of the calling with which you were called,1 I, the prisoner in the Lord, exhort you therefore to walk worthy of the calling wherewith ye have been called,
2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love,2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;2 Be humble and gentle in every way. Be patient with each other and lovingly accept each other.2 with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love;2 with all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, bearing with one another in love;
3 being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.3 Through the peace that ties you together, do your best to maintain the unity that the Spirit gives.3 being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.3 using diligence to keep the unity of the Spirit in the uniting bond of peace.
4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling;4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;4 There is one body and one Spirit. In the same way you were called to share one hope.4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as you also were called in one hope of your calling;4 There is one body and one Spirit, as ye have been also called in one hope of your calling;
5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,5 There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism,5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.6 one God and Father of all, who is over everything, through everything, and in everything.6 one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in us all.6 one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in us all.
7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift.7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.7 God's favor has been given to each of us. It was measured out to us by Christ who gave it. 7 But to each one of us was the grace given according to the measure of the gift of Christ.7 But to each one of us has been given grace according to the measure of the gift of the Christ.
8 Therefore it says, "WHEN HE ASCENDED ON HIGH, HE LED CAPTIVE A HOST OF CAPTIVES, AND HE GAVE GIFTS TO MEN."8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.8 That's why the Scriptures say: "When he went to the highest place, he took captive those who had captured us and gave gifts to people."8 Therefore he says, "When he ascended on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men."8 Wherefore he says, Having ascended up on high, he has led captivity captive, and has given gifts to men.
9 (Now this expression, "He ascended," what does it mean except that He also had descended into the lower parts of the earth?9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?9 Now what does it mean that he went up except that he also had gone down to the lowest parts of the earth?9 Now this, "He ascended," what is it but that he also first descended into the lower parts of the earth?9 But that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended into the lower parts of the earth?
10 He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, so that He might fill all things.)10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)10 The one who had gone down also went up above all the heavens so that he fills everything.10 He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.10 He that descended is the same who has also ascended up above all the heavens, that he might fill all things;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers,11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;11 He also gave apostles, prophets, missionaries, as well as pastors and teachers as gifts [to his church].11 He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, shepherds and teachers;11 and he has given some apostles, and some prophets, and some evangelists, and some shepherds and teachers,
12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:12 Their purpose is to prepare God's people to serve and to build up the body of Christ.12 for the perfecting of the saints, to the work of serving, to the building up of the body of Christ;12 for the perfecting of the saints; with a view to the work of the ministry, with a view to the edifying of the body of Christ;
13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:13 This is to continue until all of us are united in our faith and in our knowledge about God's Son, until we become mature, until we measure up to Christ, who is the standard.13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a full grown man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;13 until we all arrive at the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, at the full-grown man, at the measure of the stature of the fulness of the Christ;
14 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;14 Then we will no longer be little children, tossed and carried about by all kinds of teachings that change like the wind. We will no longer be influenced by people who use cunning and clever strategies to lead us astray.14 that we may no longer be children, tossed back and forth and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in craftiness, after the wiles of error;14 in order that we may be no longer babes, tossed and carried about by every wind of that teaching which is in the sleight of men, in unprincipled cunning with a view to systematized error;
15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:15 Instead, as we lovingly speak the truth, we will grow up completely in our relationship to Christ, who is the head.15 but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him, who is the head, Christ;15 but, holding the truth in love, we may grow up to him in all things, who is the head, the Christ:
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.16 He makes the whole body fit together and unites it through the support of every joint. As each and every part does its job, he makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.16 from whom all the body, being fitted and knit together through that which every joint supplies, according to the working in measure of each individual part, makes the body increase to the building up of itself in love.16 from whom the whole body, fitted together, and connected by every joint of supply, according to the working in its measure of each one part, works for itself the increase of the body to its self-building up in love.
The Christian’s Walk
17 So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind,17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,17 So I tell you and encourage you in the Lord's name not to live any longer like other people in the world. Their minds are set on worthless things.17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind,17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye should no longer walk as the rest of the nations walk in the vanity of their mind,
18 being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart;18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:18 They can't understand because they are in the dark. They are excluded from the life that God approves of because of their ignorance and stubbornness.18 being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their hearts;18 being darkened in understanding, estranged from the life of God by reason of the ignorance which is in them, by reason of the hardness of their hearts,
19 and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness.19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.19 Since they no longer have any sense of shame, they have become promiscuous. They practice every kind of sexual perversion with a constant desire for more.19 who having become callous gave themselves up to lust, to work all uncleanness with greediness.19 who having cast off all feeling, have given themselves up to lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greedy unsatisfied lust.
20 But you did not learn Christ in this way,20 But ye have not so learned Christ;20 But that is not what you learned from Christ's teachings.20 But you did not learn Christ that way;20 But ye have not thus learnt the Christ,
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus,21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:21 You have certainly heard his message and have been taught his ways. The truth is in Jesus.21 if indeed you heard him, and were taught in him, even as truth is in Jesus:21 if ye have heard him and been instructed in him according as the truth is in Jesus;
22 that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit,22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;22 You were taught to change the way you were living. The person you used to be will ruin you through desires that deceive you.22 that you put away, as concerning your former way of life, the old man, that grows corrupt after the lusts of deceit;22 namely your having put off according to the former conversation the old man which corrupts itself according to the deceitful lusts;
23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;23 However, you were taught to have a new attitude.23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,23 and being renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24 and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.24 You were also taught to become a new person created to be like God, truly righteous and holy.24 and put on the new man, who in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.24 and your having put on the new man, which according to God is created in truthful righteousness and holiness.
25 Therefore, laying aside falsehood, SPEAK TRUTH EACH ONE of you WITH HIS NEIGHBOR, for we are members of one another.25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.25 So then, get rid of lies. Speak the truth to each other, because we are all members of the same body.25 Therefore, putting away falsehood, speak truth each one with his neighbor. For we are members of one another.25 Wherefore, having put off falsehood, speak truth every one with his neighbour, because we are members one of another.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
26 BE ANGRY, AND yet DO NOT SIN; do not let the sun go down on your anger,26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:26 Be angry without sinning. Don't go to bed angry.26 "Be angry, and don't sin." Don't let the sun go down on your wrath,26 Be angry, and do not sin; let not the sun set upon your wrath,
27 and do not give the devil an opportunity.27 Neither give place to the devil.27 Don't give the devil any opportunity [to work].27 neither give place to the devil.27 neither give room for the devil.
28 He who steals must steal no longer; but rather he must labor, performing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have something to share with one who has need.28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.28 Thieves must quit stealing and, instead, they must work hard. They should do something good with their hands so that they'll have something to share with those in need.28 Let him who stole steal no more; but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing that is good, that he may have something to give to him who has need.28 Let the stealer steal no more, but rather let him toil, working what is honest with his hands, that he may have to distribute to him that has need.
29 Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.29 Don't say anything that would hurt [another person]. Instead, speak only what is good so that you can give help wherever it is needed. That way, what you say will help those who hear you.29 Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.29 Let no corrupt word go out of your mouth, but if there be any good one for needful edification, that it may give grace to those that hear it.
30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.30 Don't give God's Holy Spirit any reason to be upset with you. He has put his seal on you for the day you will be set free [from the world of sin].30 Don't grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with which ye have been sealed for the day of redemption.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:31 Get rid of your bitterness, hot tempers, anger, loud quarreling, cursing, and hatred.31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice.31 Let all bitterness, and heat of passion, and wrath, and clamour, and injurious language, be removed from you, with all malice;
32 Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.32 Be kind to each other, sympathetic, forgiving each other as God has forgiven you through Christ.32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.32 and be to one another kind, compassionate, forgiving one another, so as God also in Christ has forgiven you.
