God’s Controversy with Israel
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 Listen to the word of the LORD, O sons of Israel, For the LORD has a case against the inhabitants of the land, Because there is no faithfulness or kindness Or knowledge of God in the land.1 Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.1 Listen to the word of the LORD, you Israelites. The LORD has brought these charges against those who live in the land: "There is no faith, no love, and no knowledge of God in the land.1 Hear the word of Yahweh, you children of Israel; for Yahweh has a charge against the inhabitants of the land: "Indeed there is no truth, nor goodness, nor knowledge of God in the land.1 Hear the word of Jehovah, ye children of Israel; for Jehovah hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land; for there is no truth, nor goodness, nor knowledge of God in the land.
2 There is swearing, deception, murder, stealing and adultery. They employ violence, so that bloodshed follows bloodshed.2 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood.2 There is cursing, lying, murdering, stealing, and adultery. People break [my laws], and there is one murder after another.2 There is cursing, lying, murder, stealing, and committing adultery; they break boundaries, and bloodshed causes bloodshed.2 Swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out; and blood toucheth blood.
3 Therefore the land mourns, And everyone who lives in it languishes Along with the beasts of the field and the birds of the sky, And also the fish of the sea disappear.3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.3 That is why the land is drying up, and everyone who lives in it is passing away. Wild animals, birds, and fish are dying.3 Therefore the land will mourn, and everyone who dwells therein will waste away. all living things in her, even the animals of the field and the birds of the sky; yes, the fish of the sea also die.3 For this shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowl of the heavens, yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.
4 Yet let no one find fault, and let none offer reproof; For your people are like those who contend with the priest.4 Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another: for thy people are as they that strive with the priest.4 "No one should accuse other people or bring charges against them. My case is against you priests.4 "Yet let no man bring a charge, neither let any man accuse; For your people are like those who bring charges against a priest.4 Yet let no man strive, and let no man reprove; for thy people are as they that strive with the priest.
5 So you will stumble by day, And the prophet also will stumble with you by night; And I will destroy your mother.5 Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother.5 During the day you stumble, and during the night the prophets stumble with you. So I will destroy your mother, [the nation of Israel].5 You will stumble in the day, and the prophet will also stumble with you in the night; and I will destroy your mother.5 And thou shalt stumble by day; and the prophet also shall stumble with thee by night: and I will destroy thy mother.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.6 I will destroy my people because they are ignorant. You have refused to learn, so I will refuse to let you be my priests. You have forgotten the teachings of your God, so I will forget your children.6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you may be no priest to me. Because you have forgotten your God's law, I will also forget your children.6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; for thou hast rejected knowledge, and I will reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me; seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children.
7 The more they multiplied, the more they sinned against Me; I will change their glory into shame.7 As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame.7 The more priests there are, the more they sin against me. So I will turn their glory into shame.7 As they were multiplied, so they sinned against me. I will change their glory into shame.7 As they were multiplied, so they sinned against me: I will change their glory into shame.
8 They feed on the sin of My people And direct their desire toward their iniquity.8 They eat up the sin of my people, and they set their heart on their iniquity.8 They feed on the sins of my people, and they want them to do wicked things.8 They feed on the sin of my people, and set their heart on their iniquity.8 They eat the sin of my people, and their soul longeth for their iniquity.
9 And it will be, like people, like priest; So I will punish them for their ways And repay them for their deeds.9 And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings.9 So the priests will be punished like the people. I will punish them for their wicked ways and pay them back for what they have done.9 It will be, like people, like priest; and I will punish them for their ways, and will repay them for their deeds.9 And it shall be as the people so the priest; and I will visit their ways upon them, and recompense to them their doings;
10 They will eat, but not have enough; They will play the harlot, but not increase, Because they have stopped giving heed to the LORD.10 For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the LORD.10 "They will eat, but they'll never be full. They will have sex with prostitutes, but they'll never have children. They have abandoned the LORD.10 They will eat, and not have enough. They will play the prostitute, and will not increase; because they have abandoned giving to Yahweh.10 and they shall eat, and not have enough; they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: for they have left off taking heed to Jehovah.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 Harlotry, wine and new wine take away the understanding.11 Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart.11 Prostitutes, old wine, and new wine have robbed them of their senses.11 Prostitution, wine, and new wine take away understanding.11 Fornication, and wine, and new wine take away the heart.
12 My people consult their wooden idol, and their diviner's wand informs them; For a spirit of harlotry has led them astray, And they have played the harlot, departing from their God.12 My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God.12 My people ask their wooden idols for help. A piece of wood tells them what to do. A spirit of prostitution leads them astray. They commit adultery by giving themselves to other gods.12 My people consult with their wooden idol, and answer to a stick of wood. Indeed the spirit of prostitution has led them astray, and they have been unfaithful to their God.12 My people ask counsel of their stock, and their staff declareth unto them; for the spirit of whoredoms causeth them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God:
13 They offer sacrifices on the tops of the mountains And burn incense on the hills, Under oak, poplar and terebinth, Because their shade is pleasant. Therefore your daughters play the harlot And your brides commit adultery.13 They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elms, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters shall commit whoredom, and your spouses shall commit adultery.13 They offer sacrifices on mountaintops, and they burn incense on the hills under oaks, poplars, and other trees. They think that these trees provide good shade. "That is why your daughters become prostitutes, and your daughters-in-law commit adultery.13 They sacrifice on the tops of the mountains, and burn incense on the hills, under oaks and poplars and terebinths, because its shade is good. Therefore your daughters play the prostitute, and your brides commit adultery.13 they sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oak and poplar and terebinth, because the shade thereof is good; therefore your daughters play the harlot and your daughters-in-law commit adultery.
14 I will not punish your daughters when they play the harlot Or your brides when they commit adultery, For the men themselves go apart with harlots And offer sacrifices with temple prostitutes; So the people without understanding are ruined.14 I will not punish your daughters when they commit whoredom, nor your spouses when they commit adultery: for themselves are separated with whores, and they sacrifice with harlots: therefore the people that doth not understand shall fall.14 Yet, I will not punish your daughters when they become prostitutes or your daughters-in-law when they commit adultery. The men go to prostitutes and offer sacrifices with temple prostitutes. These foolish people will be trampled.14 I will not punish your daughters when they play the prostitute, nor your brides when they commit adultery; because the men consort with prostitutes, and they sacrifice with the shrine prostitutes; so the people without understanding will come to ruin.14 I will not punish your daughters when they play the harlot, nor your daughters-in-law for their committing adultery; for they themselves go aside with harlots, and they sacrifice with prostitutes: and the people that doth not understand shall come to ruin.
15 Though you, Israel, play the harlot, Do not let Judah become guilty; Also do not go to Gilgal, Or go up to Beth-aven And take the oath: "As the LORD lives!"15 Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah offend; and come not ye unto Gilgal, neither go ye up to Bethaven, nor swear, The LORD liveth.15 "Israel, you act like a prostitute. Don't let Judah become guilty too. Don't go to Gilgal. Don't go to Beth Aven. Don't take the oath, 'As the LORD lives....'15 "Though you, Israel, play the prostitute, yet don't let Judah offend; and don't come to Gilgal, neither go up to Beth Aven, nor swear, 'As Yahweh lives.'15 Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, let not Judah trespass; and come ye not unto Gilgal, neither go up to Beth-aven, nor swear As Jehovah liveth!
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 Since Israel is stubborn Like a stubborn heifer, Can the LORD now pasture them Like a lamb in a large field?16 For Israel slideth back as a backsliding heifer: now the LORD will feed them as a lamb in a large place.16 "The people of Israel are as stubborn as a bull. How can the LORD feed them like lambs in an open pasture?16 For Israel has behaved extremely stubbornly, like a stubborn heifer. Then how will Yahweh feed them like a lamb in a meadow.16 For Israel is refractory as an untractable heifer; now will Jehovah feed them as a lamb in a wide pasture.
17 Ephraim is joined to idols; Let him alone.17 Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone.17 The people of Ephraim have chosen to worship idols. Leave them alone!17 Ephraim is joined to idols. Leave him alone!17 Ephraim is joined to idols: leave him alone.
18 Their liquor gone, They play the harlot continually; Their rulers dearly love shame.18 Their drink is sour: they have committed whoredom continually: her rulers with shame do love, Give ye.18 When they're done drinking their wine, they continue to have sex with the prostitutes. Their rulers dearly love to act shamefully.18 Their drink has become sour. They play the prostitute continually. Her rulers dearly love their shameful way.18 Their drink is sour; they give themselves up to whoredom; her great men passionately love their shame.
19 The wind wraps them in its wings, And they will be ashamed because of their sacrifices.19 The wind hath bound her up in her wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices.19 The wind will carry them away in its wings, and their sacrifices will bring them shame.19 The wind has wrapped her up in its wings; and they shall be disappointed because of their sacrifices.19 The wind hath wrapped her up in its wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices.
