God Commands That Babylon Be Taken
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 The oracle concerning the wilderness of the sea. As windstorms in the Negev sweep on, It comes from the wilderness, from a terrifying land.1 The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through; so it cometh from the desert, from a terrible land.1 This is the divine revelation about the desert by the sea. Like a storm sweeping through the Negev, an invader will come from the desert, from a terrifying land.1 The burden of the wilderness of the sea. As whirlwinds in the South sweep through, it comes from the wilderness, from an awesome land.1 The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through, so it cometh from the desert, from a terrible land.
2 A harsh vision has been shown to me; The treacherous one still deals treacherously, and the destroyer still destroys. Go up, Elam, lay siege, Media; I have made an end of all the groaning she has caused.2 A grievous vision is declared unto me; the treacherous dealer dealeth treacherously, and the spoiler spoileth. Go up, O Elam: besiege, O Media; all the sighing thereof have I made to cease.2 I was shown a harsh vision. The traitor betrays. The destroyer destroys. Go to war, Elam! Surround them, Media! I will put an end to all the groaning.2 A grievous vision is declared to me. The treacherous man deals treacherously, and the destroyer destroys. Go up, Elam; attack! I have stopped all of Media's sighing.2 A grievous vision is declared unto me: the treacherous dealeth treacherously, and the spoiler spoileth. Go up, Elam! besiege, Media! All the sighing thereof have I made to cease.
3 For this reason my loins are full of anguish; Pains have seized me like the pains of a woman in labor. I am so bewildered I cannot hear, so terrified I cannot see.3 Therefore are my loins filled with pain: pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman that travaileth: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it.3 That is why my body is full of trembling. Pain grips me like the pain of childbirth. I'm disturbed by what I hear. I'm terrified by what I see.3 Therefore my thighs are filled with anguish. Pains have taken hold on me, like the pains of a woman in labor. I am in so much pain that I can't hear. I so am dismayed that I can't see.3 Therefore are my loins filled with pain; anguish hath taken hold upon me, as the anguish of a woman in travail: I am bowed down so as not to hear, I am dismayed so as not to see.
4 My mind reels, horror overwhelms me; The twilight I longed for has been turned for me into trembling.4 My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: the night of my pleasure hath he turned into fear unto me.4 I'm confused. I'm shaking with terror. The twilight hours I longed for make me tremble.4 My heart flutters. Horror has frightened me. The twilight that I desired has been turned into trembling for me.4 My heart panteth, horror affrighteth me: the night of my pleasure hath he turned into trembling unto me.
5 They set the table, they spread out the cloth, they eat, they drink; "Rise up, captains, oil the shields,"5 Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.5 Set the table. Spread the rugs [by the table]. Eat. Drink. Get up, you leaders! Prepare your shields for battle!5 They prepare the table. They set the watch. They eat. They drink. Rise up, you princes, oil the shield!5 Prepare the table, appoint the watch; eat, drink: arise, ye princes, anoint the shield.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 For thus the Lord says to me, "Go, station the lookout, let him report what he sees.6 For thus hath the LORD said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.6 This is what the Lord says to me: Post a watchman. Have him report whatever he sees.6 For the Lord said to me, "Go, set a watchman. Let him declare what he sees.6 For thus hath the Lord said unto me: Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.
7 "When he sees riders, horsemen in pairs, A train of donkeys, a train of camels, Let him pay close attention, very close attention."7 And he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of asses, and a chariot of camels; and he hearkened diligently with much heed:7 He will see chariots, pairs of horsemen, riders on donkeys, and riders on camels. Let him watch carefully, very carefully.7 When he sees a troop, horsemen in pairs, a troop of donkeys, a troop of camels, he shall listen diligently with great attentiveness."7 And he saw chariots, horsemen by pairs, a chariot with asses, a chariot with camels; and he hearkened diligently with much heed.
8 Then the lookout called, "O Lord, I stand continually by day on the watchtower, And I am stationed every night at my guard post.8 And he cried, A lion: My lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my ward whole nights:8 The watchman called, "Sir, I stand on the watchtower every day. Every night, I stand guard at my post. 8 He cried like a lion: "Lord, I stand continually on the watchtower in the daytime, and every night I stay at my post.8 And he cried as a lion, Lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my ward whole nights.
9 "Now behold, here comes a troop of riders, horsemen in pairs." And one said, "Fallen, fallen is Babylon; And all the images of her gods are shattered on the ground."9 And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.9 Look! Here come chariots and horsemen in pairs." Then he said, "Babylon has fallen! It has fallen! All the idols they worship lie shattered on the ground."9 Behold, here comes a troop of men, horsemen in pairs." He answered, "Fallen, fallen is Babylon; and all the engraved images of her gods are broken to the ground.9 And behold, there cometh a chariot of men; horsemen by pairs. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.
10 O my threshed people, and my afflicted of the threshing floor! What I have heard from the LORD of hosts, The God of Israel, I make known to you.10 O my threshing, and the corn of my floor: that which I have heard of the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, have I declared unto you.10 You, my people, have been threshed and winnowed. I make known to you what I heard from the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel. 10 You are my threshing, and the grain of my floor!" That which I have heard from Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, I have declared to you.10 O my threshing, and the corn of my floor! What I have heard of Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, have I declared unto you.
Oracles about Edom and Arabia
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 The oracle concerning Edom. One keeps calling to me from Seir, "Watchman, how far gone is the night? Watchman, how far gone is the night?"11 The burden of Dumah. He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?11 This is the divine revelation about Dumah. Someone is calling to me from Seir, "Watchman, how much of the night is left? Watchman, how much of the night is left?" 11 The burden of Dumah. One calls to me out of Seir, "Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?"11 The burden of Dumah. He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?
12 The watchman says, "Morning comes but also night. If you would inquire, inquire; Come back again."12 The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will enquire, enquire ye: return, come.12 The watchman answers, "Morning is coming, and night will come again. If you need to ask, come back and ask."12 The watchman said, "The morning comes, and also the night. If you will inquire, inquire. Come back again."12 The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will inquire, inquire; return, come.
13 The oracle about Arabia. In the thickets of Arabia you must spend the night, O caravans of Dedanites.13 The burden upon Arabia. In the forest in Arabia shall ye lodge, O ye travelling companies of Dedanim.13 This is the divine revelation about Arabia. You caravan of travelers from the people of Dedan will spend the night in the forest of Arabia.13 The burden on Arabia. In the forest in Arabia you will lodge, you caravans of Dedanites.13 The burden against Arabia. In the forest of Arabia shall ye lodge, ye caravans of Dedanites.
14 Bring water for the thirsty, O inhabitants of the land of Tema, Meet the fugitive with bread.14 The inhabitants of the land of Tema brought water to him that was thirsty, they prevented with their bread him that fled.14 Bring water for the thirsty, you inhabitants of the land of Tema. Bring food to the fugitives.14 They brought water to him who was thirsty. The inhabitants of the land of Tema met the fugitives with their bread.14 Bring ye water to meet the thirsty! The inhabitants of the land of Tema come forth with their bread for him that fleeth.
15 For they have fled from the swords, From the drawn sword, and from the bent bow And from the press of battle.15 For they fled from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war.15 They flee from swords, from swords ready to kill, from bows ready to shoot, and from the thick of battle.15 For they fled away from the swords, from the drawn sword, from the bent bow, and from the heat of battle.15 For they flee from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 For thus the Lord said to me, "In a year, as a hired man would count it, all the splendor of Kedar will terminate;16 For thus hath the LORD said unto me, Within a year, according to the years of an hireling, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail:16 This is what the Lord says to me: All of Kedar's honor will be gone in another year. I will count it like workers count the years left on their contracts. 16 For the Lord said to me, "Within a year, as a worker bound by contract would count it, all the glory of Kedar will fail,16 For thus hath the Lord said unto me: Within a year, according to the years of a hired servant, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail;
17 and the remainder of the number of bowmen, the mighty men of the sons of Kedar, will be few; for the LORD God of Israel has spoken."17 And the residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be diminished: for the LORD God of Israel hath spoken it.17 The remaining number of archers, Kedar's mighty archers, will be few. The LORD God of Israel has spoken.17 and the residue of the number of the archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, will be few; for Yahweh, the God of Israel, has spoken it."17 and the residue of the number of the archers, the mighty men of the sons of Kedar, shall be diminished: for Jehovah, the God of Israel, hath spoken.
