God Will Remove the Leaders
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 For behold, the Lord GOD of hosts is going to remove from Jerusalem and Judah Both supply and support, the whole supply of bread And the whole supply of water;1 For, behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, doth take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water.1 See now, the Lord, the LORD of Armies, is going to take from Jerusalem and Judah every kind of support and their entire supply of food and water.1 For, behold, the Lord, Yahweh of Armies, takes away from Jerusalem and from Judah supply and support, the whole supply of bread, and the whole supply of water;1 For behold, the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, will take away from Jerusalem and from Judah stay and staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water,
2 The mighty man and the warrior, The judge and the prophet, The diviner and the elder,2 The mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the prudent, and the ancient,2 [He will take their] heroes and soldiers, judges and prophets, fortunetellers and statesmen,2 the mighty man, the man of war, the judge, the prophet, the diviner, the elder,2 the mighty man and the man of war, the judge and the prophet, and the diviner and the elder,
3 The captain of fifty and the honorable man, The counselor and the expert artisan, And the skillful enchanter.3 The captain of fifty, and the honourable man, and the counsellor, and the cunning artificer, and the eloquent orator.3 military leaders and civilian leaders, counselors, skilled workers, and experts in magic.3 the captain of fifty, the honorable man, the counselor, the skilled craftsman, and the clever enchanter.3 the captain of fifty, and the honourable man, and the counsellor, and the clever among artificers, and the one versed in enchantments.
4 And I will make mere lads their princes, And capricious children will rule over them,4 And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them.4 "I will make boys their leaders. Children will govern them."4 I will give boys to be their princes, and children shall rule over them.4 And I will appoint youths as their princes, and children shall rule over them.
5 And the people will be oppressed, Each one by another, and each one by his neighbor; The youth will storm against the elder And the inferior against the honorable.5 And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbour: the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honourable.5 People will oppress each other, and everyone will oppress his neighbor. The young will make fun of the old, and common people will make fun of their superiors.5 The people will be oppressed, everyone by another, and everyone by his neighbor. The child will behave himself proudly against the old man, and the base against the honorable.5 And the people shall be oppressed one by the other, and each by his neighbour; the child will be insolent against the elder, and the base against the honourable.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 When a man lays hold of his brother in his father's house, saying, "You have a cloak, you shall be our ruler, And these ruins will be under your charge,"6 When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, saying, Thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler, and let this ruin be under thy hand:6 A person will grab one of his relatives from his father's family and say, "You have a coat. You'll be our leader. This pile of ruins will be under your control."6 Indeed a man shall take hold of his brother in the house of his father, saying, "You have clothing, you be our ruler, and let this ruin be under your hand."6 When a man shall take hold of his brother, in his father's house, and shall say: Thou hast clothing; be our chief, and let this ruin be under thy hand;
7 He will protest on that day, saying, "I will not be your healer, For in my house there is neither bread nor cloak; You should not appoint me ruler of the people."7 In that day shall he swear, saying, I will not be an healer; for in my house is neither bread nor clothing: make me not a ruler of the people.7 When that day comes the relative will cry out, "I'm not a doctor! I don't have any food or a coat in my home. Don't make me a leader of our family."7 In that day he will cry out, saying, "I will not be a healer; for in my house is neither bread nor clothing. You shall not make me ruler of the people."7 he will lift up his hand in that day, saying, I cannot be a healer, and in my house there is neither bread nor clothing; ye shall not make me a chief of the people.
8 For Jerusalem has stumbled and Judah has fallen, Because their speech and their actions are against the LORD, To rebel against His glorious presence.8 For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen: because their tongue and their doings are against the LORD, to provoke the eyes of his glory.8 Jerusalem has stumbled, and Judah has fallen, because what they say and what they do is against the LORD. They are defiant in his honored presence.8 For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen; because their tongue and their doings are against Yahweh, to provoke the eyes of his glory.8 For Jerusalem stumbleth and Judah falleth, because their tongue and their doings are against Jehovah, to provoke the eyes of his glory.
9 The expression of their faces bears witness against them, And they display their sin like Sodom; They do not even conceal it. Woe to them! For they have brought evil on themselves.9 The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.9 The look on their faces will be held against them. They boast about their sins, which are like [those of the people of] Sodom. They don't even bother to hide them. How horrible it will be for these people, because they have brought disaster on themselves.9 The look of their faces testify against them. They parade their sin like Sodom. They don't hide it. Woe to their soul! For they have brought disaster upon themselves.9 The look of their face doth witness against them, and they declare their sin as Sodom: they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have brought evil upon themselves.
10 Say to the righteous that it will go well with them, For they will eat the fruit of their actions.10 Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.10 Tell the righteous that blessings will come to them. They will taste the fruit of their labor.10 Tell the righteous "Good!" For they shall eat the fruit of their deeds.10 Say ye of the righteous that it shall be well with him, for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 Woe to the wicked! It will go badly with him, For what he deserves will be done to him.11 Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.11 How horrible it will be for the wicked! Disaster will strike them. What they have done will be done to them.11 Woe to the wicked! Disaster is upon them; for the deeds of his hands will be paid back to him.11 Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him, because the desert of his hands shall be rendered unto him.
12 O My people! Their oppressors are children, And women rule over them. O My people! Those who guide you lead you astray And confuse the direction of your paths.12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.12 "Children will oppress my people. Women will rule them. My people, your guides mislead you, and you don't know which way to go."12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. My people, those who lead you cause you to err, and destroy the way of your paths.12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. My people! they that guide thee mislead thee, and destroy the way of thy paths.
God Will Judge
13 The LORD arises to contend, And stands to judge the people.13 The LORD standeth up to plead, and standeth to judge the people.13 The LORD takes his place in the courtroom. He stands to judge his people.13 Yahweh stands up to contend, and stands to judge the peoples.13 Jehovah setteth himself to plead, and standeth to judge the peoples.
14 The LORD enters into judgment with the elders and princes of His people, "It is you who have devoured the vineyard; The plunder of the poor is in your houses.14 The LORD will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and the princes thereof: for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses.14 The LORD presents his case to the respected leaders and the officials of his people: "You have burned down the vineyard! Your houses are filled with goods stolen from the poor."14 Yahweh will enter into judgment with the elders of his people, and their leaders: "It is you who have eaten up the vineyard. The spoil of the poor is in your houses.14 Jehovah will enter into judgment with the elders of his people and their princes, saying: It is ye that have eaten up the vineyard: the spoil of the poor is in your houses.
15 "What do you mean by crushing My people And grinding the face of the poor?" Declares the Lord GOD of hosts.15 What mean ye that ye beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord GOD of hosts.15 The Almighty LORD of Armies asks, "How can you crush my people and grind the faces of the poor [into the ground]?"15 What do you mean that you crush my people, and grind the face of the poor?" says the Lord, Yahweh of Armies.15 What mean ye that ye crush my people, and grind the faces of the afflicted? saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts.
Judah’s Women Denounced
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 Moreover, the LORD said, "Because the daughters of Zion are proud And walk with heads held high and seductive eyes, And go along with mincing steps And tinkle the bangles on their feet,16 Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet:16 The LORD adds, "The women of Zion are arrogant. They walk with their noses in the air, making seductive glances, taking short little steps, jingling the ankle bracelets on their feet."16 Moreover Yahweh said, "Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with outstretched necks and flirting eyes, walking to trip as they go, jingling ornaments on their feet;16 And Jehovah said, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched-out neck and wanton eyes, and go along mincing, and making a tinkling with their feet;
17 Therefore the Lord will afflict the scalp of the daughters of Zion with scabs, And the LORD will make their foreheads bare."17 Therefore the LORD will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will discover their secret parts.17 The Lord will cause sores [to appear] on the heads of the women of Zion, and the LORD will make their foreheads bare.17 therefore the Lord brings sores on the crown of the head of the women of Zion, and Yahweh will make their scalps bald."17 therefore the Lord will make bald the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and Jehovah will lay bare their secret parts.
18 In that day the Lord will take away the beauty of their anklets, headbands, crescent ornaments,18 In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon,18 On that day the Lord will take away their fine things: jingling anklets, headbands, crescent-shaped necklaces,18 In that day the Lord will take away the beauty of their anklets, the headbands, the crescent necklaces,18 In that day the Lord will take away the ornament of anklets, and the little suns and crescents,
19 dangling earrings, bracelets, veils,19 The chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers,19 pendants, bracelets, scarfs,19 the earrings, the bracelets, the veils,19 the pearl-drops, and the bracelets, and the veils,
20 headdresses, ankle chains, sashes, perfume boxes, amulets,20 The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the tablets, and the earrings,20 hats, ankle bracelets, blouses, perfume boxes, charms,20 the headdresses, the ankle chains, the sashes, the perfume bottles, the charms,20 the head-dresses, and the stepping chains, and the girdles, and the scent-boxes, and the amulets;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
21 finger rings, nose rings,21 The rings, and nose jewels,21 signet rings, nose rings,21 the signet rings, the nose rings,21 the finger-rings, and the nose-rings;
22 festal robes, outer tunics, cloaks, money purses,22 The changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping pins,22 fine robes, coats, shawls, purses,22 the fine robes, the capes, the cloaks, the purses,22 the festival-robes, and the tunics, and the mantles, and the wallets;
23 hand mirrors, undergarments, turbans and veils.23 The glasses, and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the vails.23 mirrors, underwear, headdresses, and veils.23 the hand mirrors, the fine linen garments, the tiaras, and the shawls.23 the mirrors, and the fine linen bodices, and the turbans, and the flowing veils.
24 Now it will come about that instead of sweet perfume there will be putrefaction; Instead of a belt, a rope; Instead of well-set hair, a plucked-out scalp; Instead of fine clothes, a donning of sackcloth; And branding instead of beauty.24 And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty.24 Instead of the smell of perfume, there will be the smell of decay. They will wear ropes instead of belts. They will have bald heads instead of beautiful hair. They will wear sackcloth instead of expensive clothes. Their beauty will be scarred. 24 It shall happen that instead of sweet spices, there shall be rottenness; instead of a belt, a rope; instead of well set hair, baldness; instead of a robe, a wearing of sackcloth; and branding instead of beauty.24 And it shall come to pass, instead of perfume there shall be rottenness; and instead of a girdle, a rope; and instead of well-set hair, baldness; and instead of a robe of display, a girding of sackcloth; brand instead of beauty.
25 Your men will fall by the sword And your mighty ones in battle.25 Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war.25 [Women,] your warriors will die in combat. Your mighty men will die in battle.25 Your men shall fall by the sword, and your mighty in the war.25 Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the fight;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
26 And her gates will lament and mourn, And deserted she will sit on the ground.26 And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground.26 The gates of Zion will cry and grieve, and Zion will sit on the ground, exhausted.26 Her gates shall lament and mourn; and she shall be desolate and sit on the ground.26 and her gates shall lament and mourn; and, stripped, she shall sit upon the ground.
