5 He who mocks the poor taunts his Maker; He who rejoices at calamity will not go unpunished.5 Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.5 Whoever makes fun of a poor person insults his maker. Whoever is happy [to see someone's] distress will not escape punishment.5 Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker. 8 A bribe is a charm in the sight of its owner; Wherever he turns, he prospers.8 A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.8 A bribe seems [like] a jewel to the one who gives it. 10 A rebuke goes deeper into one who has understanding Than a hundred blows into a fool.10 A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool.10 A reprimand impresses a person who has understanding more than a hundred lashes impress a fool.10 A rebuke enters deeper into one who has understanding than a hundred lashes into a fool.10 A reproof entereth more deeply into him that hath understanding than a hundred stripes into a fool.

11 A rebellious man seeks only evil, So a cruel messenger will be sent against him.11 An evil man seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.11 A rebel looks for nothing but evil. 15 He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous, Both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD.15 Whoever approves of wicked people and whoever condemns righteous people is disgusting to the LORD.15 He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the righteous, both of them alike are an abomination to Yahweh.15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the righteous, even they both are abomination to Jehovah.

16 Why is there a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, When he has no sense?16 Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it?16 Why should a fool have money in his hand to buy wisdom when he doesn't have a mind to grasp anything?16 Why is there money in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, since he has no understanding?16 To what purpose is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no sense?

20 He who has a crooked mind finds no good, And he who is perverted in his language falls into evil.20 He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.20 A twisted mind never finds happiness, and one with a devious tongue [repeatedly]gets into trouble.20 One who has a perverse heart doesn't find prosperity, and one who has a deceitful tongue falls into trouble.20 He that hath a perverse heart findeth no good; and he that shifteth about with his tongue falleth into evil.

21 He who sires a fool does so to his sorrow, And the father of a fool has no joy.21 He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy.21 The parent of a fool has grief, and the father of a godless fool has no joy.21 He who becomes the father of a fool grieves. The father of a fool has no joy.21 He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow, and the father of a vile man hath no joy.
22 A joyful heart is good medicine, But a broken spirit dries up the bones.22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.22 A joyful heart is good medicine, but depression drains one's strength.22 A cheerful heart makes good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.22 A joyful heart promoteth healing; but a broken spirit drieth up the bones.
23 A wicked man receives a bribe from the bosom To pervert the ways of justice.23 A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment.23 A wicked person secretly accepts a bribe to corrupt the ways of justice.23 A wicked man receives a bribe in secret, to pervert the ways of justice.23 A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom, to pervert the paths of judgment.

26 It is also not good to fine the righteous, Nor to strike the noble for their uprightness.26 Also to punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for equity.26 To punish an innocent person is not good. To strike down noble people is not right.26 Also to punish the righteous is not good, nor to flog officials for their integrity.26 To punish a righteous man is not good, nor to strike nobles because of their uprightness.
27 He who restrains his words has knowledge, And he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding.27 He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.27 Whoever has knowledge controls his words, and a person who has understanding is even-tempered.27 He who spares his words has knowledge. He who is even tempered is a man of understanding.27 He that hath knowledge spareth his words; and a man of understanding is of a cool spirit.
28 Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is considered wise; When he closes his lips, he is considered prudent.28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.28 Even a stubborn fool is thought to be wise if he keeps silent. He is considered intelligent if he keeps his lips sealed.28 Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is counted wise. When he shuts his lips, he is thought to be discerning.28 Even a fool when he holdeth his peace is reckoned wise, and he that shutteth his lips, intelligent.
