The Pursuit of Wisdom Brings Security
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 My son, if you will receive my words And treasure my commandments within you,1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;1 My son, if you take my words [to heart] and treasure my commands within you,1 My son, if you will receive my words, and store up my commandments within you;1 My son, if thou receivest my words, and layest up my commandments with thee,
2 Make your ear attentive to wisdom, Incline your heart to understanding;2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;2 if you pay close attention to wisdom, and let your mind reach for understanding,2 So as to turn your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding;2 so that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom and thou apply thy heart to understanding;
3 For if you cry for discernment, Lift your voice for understanding;3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;3 if indeed you call out for insight, if you ask aloud for understanding,3 Yes, if you call out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding;3 yea, if thou criest after discernment and liftest up thy voice to understanding;
4 If you seek her as silver And search for her as for hidden treasures;4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;4 if you search for wisdom as if it were money and hunt for it as if it were hidden treasure,4 If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures:4 if thou seekest her as silver and searchest for her as for hidden treasures:
5 Then you will discern the fear of the LORD And discover the knowledge of God.5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD and you will find the knowledge of God.5 then you will understand the fear of Yahweh, and find the knowledge of God.5 then shalt thou understand the fear of Jehovah, and find the knowledge of God.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.6 The LORD gives wisdom. From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.6 For Yahweh gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.6 For Jehovah giveth wisdom; out of his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity,7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.7 He has reserved priceless wisdom for decent people. He is a shield for those who walk in integrity7 He lays up sound wisdom for the upright. He is a shield to those who walk in integrity;7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to them that walk in integrity;
8 Guarding the paths of justice, And He preserves the way of His godly ones.8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.8 in order to guard those on paths of justice and to watch over the way of his godly ones.8 that he may guard the paths of justice, and preserve the way of his saints.8 guarding the paths of just judgment and keeping the way of his godly ones.
9 Then you will discern righteousness and justice And equity and every good course.9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.9 Then you will understand what is right and just and fair- every good course [in life].9 Then you will understand righteousness and justice, equity and every good path.9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness and judgment and equity: every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart And knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;10 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;10 Wisdom will come into your heart. Knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.10 For wisdom will enter into your heart. Knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.10 When wisdom entereth into thy heart and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul,
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 Discretion will guard you, Understanding will watch over you,11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:11 Foresight will protect you. Understanding will guard you.11 Discretion will watch over you. Understanding will keep you,11 discretion shall keep thee, understanding shall preserve thee:
12 To deliver you from the way of evil, From the man who speaks perverse things;12 To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;12 [Wisdom will] save you from the way of evil, from the person who speaks devious things,12 to deliver you from the way of evil, from the men who speak perverse things;12 To deliver thee from the way of evil, from the man that speaketh froward things;
13 From those who leave the paths of uprightness To walk in the ways of darkness;13 Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;13 from those who abandon the paths of righteousness to walk the ways of darkness,13 who forsake the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;13 from those who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
14 Who delight in doing evil And rejoice in the perversity of evil;14 Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;14 from those who enjoy doing evil, from those who find joy in the deviousness of evil.14 who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the perverseness of evil;14 who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of evil;
15 Whose paths are crooked, And who are devious in their ways;15 Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:15 Their paths are crooked. Their ways are devious.15 who are crooked in their ways, and wayward in their paths:15 whose paths are crooked, and who are perverted in their course:
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 To deliver you from the strange woman, From the adulteress who flatters with her words;16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;16 [Wisdom will] also save you from an adulterous woman, from a loose woman with her smooth talk,16 To deliver you from the strange woman, even from the foreigner who flatters with her words;16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, from the stranger who flattereth with her words;
17 That leaves the companion of her youth And forgets the covenant of her God;17 Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.17 who leaves [her husband,]the closest friend of her youth,[and forgets her marriage vows to her God.]17 who forsakes the friend of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God:17 who forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God;
18 For her house sinks down to death And her tracks lead to the dead;18 For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.18 Her house sinks down to death. Her ways lead to the souls of the dead.18 for her house leads down to death, her paths to the dead.18 for her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead;
19 None who go to her return again, Nor do they reach the paths of life.19 None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.19 None who have sex with her come back. Nor do they ever reach the paths of life.19 None who go to her return again, neither do they attain to the paths of life:19 none that go unto her return again, neither do they attain to the paths of life:
20 So you will walk in the way of good men And keep to the paths of the righteous.20 That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.20 So walk in the way of good people and stay on the paths of righteous people.20 that you may walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.20 that thou mayest walk in the way of the good, And keep the paths of the righteous.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
21 For the upright will live in the land And the blameless will remain in it;21 For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.21 Decent people will live in the land. People of integrity will remain in it.21 For the upright will dwell in the land. The perfect will remain in it.21 For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it;
22 But the wicked will be cut off from the land And the treacherous will be uprooted from it.22 But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.22 But wicked people will be cut off from the land and treacherous people will be torn from it. 22 But the wicked will be cut off from the land. The treacherous will be rooted out of it.22 but the wicked shall be cut off from the land, and the unfaithful shall be plucked up out of it.
