On Life and Conduct
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 When you sit down to dine with a ruler, Consider carefully what is before you,1 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:1 When you sit down to eat with a ruler, pay close attention to what is in front of you,1 When you sit to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before you;1 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider well who is before thee;
 And put a knife to your throat If you are a man of great appetite.2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.2 and put a knife to your throat if you have a big appetite.2 put a knife to your throat, if you are a man given to appetite.2 and put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.
 Do not desire his delicacies, For it is deceptive food.3 Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.3 Do not crave his delicacies, because this is food that deceives you.3 Don't be desirous of his dainties, since they are deceitful food.3 Be not desirous of his dainties; for they are deceitful food.
 Do not weary yourself to gain wealth, Cease from your consideration of it.4 Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.4 Do not wear yourself out getting rich. Be smart enough to stop.4 Don't weary yourself to be rich. In your wisdom, show restraint.4 Weary not thyself to become rich; cease from thine own intelligence:
 When you set your eyes on it, it is gone. For wealth certainly makes itself wings Like an eagle that flies toward the heavens.5 Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.5 Will you catch only a fleeting glimpse of wealth before it is gone? It makes wings for itself like an eagle flying into the sky.5 Why do you set your eyes on that which is not? For it certainly sprouts wings like an eagle and flies in the sky.5 wilt thou set thine eyes upon it, it is gone; for indeed it maketh itself wings and it flieth away as an eagle towards the heavens.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 Do not eat the bread of a selfish man, Or desire his delicacies;6 Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats:6 Do not eat the food of one who is stingy, and do not crave his delicacies.6 Don't eat the food of him who has a stingy eye, and don't crave his delicacies:6 Eat thou not the food of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainties.
 For as he thinks within himself, so he is. He says to you, "Eat and drink!" But his heart is not with you.7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.7 As he calculates the cost to himself, this is what he does: He tells you, "Eat and drink," but he doesn't really mean it.7 for as he thinks about the cost, so he is. "Eat and drink!" he says to you, but his heart is not with you.7 For as he thinketh in his soul, so is he. Eat and drink! will he say unto thee; but his heart is not with thee.
 You will vomit up the morsel you have eaten, And waste your compliments.8 The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.8 You will vomit the little bit you have eaten and spoil your pleasant conversation.8 The morsel which you have eaten you shall vomit up, and lose your good words.8 Thy morsel which thou hast eaten must thou vomit up, and thou wilt have wasted thy sweet words.
 Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, For he will despise the wisdom of your words.9 Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.9 Do not talk directly to a fool, because he will despise the wisdom of your words.9 Don't speak in the ears of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words.9 Speak not in the ears of a foolish man, for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
 Do not move the ancient boundary Or go into the fields of the fatherless,10 Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:10 Do not move an ancient boundary marker or enter fields that belong to orphans,10 Don't move the ancient boundary stone. Don't encroach on the fields of the fatherless:10 Remove not the ancient landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 For their Redeemer is strong; He will plead their case against you.11 For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee.11 because the one who is responsible for them is strong. He will plead their case against you.11 for their Defender is strong. He will plead their case against you.11 for their redeemer is mighty; he will plead their cause against thee.
 Apply your heart to discipline And your ears to words of knowledge.12 Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.12 Live a more disciplined life, and listen carefully to words of knowledge.12 Apply your heart to instruction, and your ears to the words of knowledge.12 Apply thy heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.
 Do not hold back discipline from the child, Although you strike him with the rod, he will not die.13 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.13 Do not hesitate to discipline a child. If you spank him, he will not die.13 Don't withhold correction from a child. If you punish him with the rod, he will not die.13 Withhold not correction from the child; for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die:
 You shall strike him with the rod And rescue his soul from Sheol.14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.14 Spank him yourself, and you will save his soul from hell.14 Punish him with the rod, and save his soul from Sheol.14 thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from Sheol.
 My son, if your heart is wise, My own heart also will be glad;15 My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.15 My son, if you have a wise heart, my heart will rejoice as well.15 My son, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad, even mine:15 My son, if thy heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 And my inmost being will rejoice When your lips speak what is right.16 Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.16 My heart rejoices when you speak what is right.16 yes, my heart will rejoice, when your lips speak what is right.16 and my reins shall exult, when thy lips speak right things.
 Do not let your heart envy sinners, But live in the fear of the LORD always.17 Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.17 Do not envy sinners in your heart. Instead, continue to fear the LORD.17 Don't let your heart envy sinners; but rather fear Yahweh all the day long.17 Let not thy heart envy sinners, but be thou in the fear of Jehovah all the day;
 Surely there is a future, And your hope will not be cut off.18 For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.18 There is indeed a future, and your hope will never be cut off.18 Indeed surely there is a future hope, and your hope will not be cut off.18 for surely there is a result, and thine expectation shall not be cut off.
 Listen, my son, and be wise, And direct your heart in the way.19 Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.19 My son, listen, be wise, and keep your mind going in the right direction.19 Listen, my son, and be wise, and keep your heart on the right path!19 Thou, my son, hear and be wise, and direct thy heart in the way.
 Do not be with heavy drinkers of wine, Or with gluttonous eaters of meat;20 Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:20 Do not associate with those who drink too much wine, with those who eat too much meat,20 Don't be among ones drinking too much wine, or those who gorge themselves on meat:20 Be not among winebibbers, among riotous eaters of flesh.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 For the heavy drinker and the glutton will come to poverty, And drowsiness will clothe one with rags.21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.21 because both a drunk and a glutton will become poor. Drowsiness will dress a person in rags.21 for the drunkard and the glutton shall become poor; and drowsiness clothes them in rags.21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty; and drowsiness clotheth with rags.
 Listen to your father who begot you, And do not despise your mother when she is old.22 Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.22 Listen to your father since you are his son, and do not despise your mother because she is old.22 Listen to your father who gave you life, and don't despise your mother when she is old.22 Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
 Buy truth, and do not sell it, Get wisdom and instruction and understanding.23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.23 Buy truth (and do not sell it), [that is,] buy wisdom, discipline, and understanding.23 Buy the truth, and don't sell it. Get wisdom, discipline, and understanding.23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; wisdom, and instruction, and intelligence.
 The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice, And he who sires a wise son will be glad in him.24 The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.24 A righteous person's father will certainly rejoice. Someone who has a wise son will enjoy him.24 The father of the righteous has great joy. Whoever fathers a wise child delights in him.24 The father of a righteous man shall greatly rejoice, and he that begetteth a wise son shall have joy of him:
 Let your father and your mother be glad, And let her rejoice who gave birth to you.25 Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.25 May your father and your mother be glad. May she who gave birth to you rejoice.25 Let your father and your mother be glad! Let her who bore you rejoice!25 let thy father and thy mother have joy, and let her that bore thee rejoice.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 Give me your heart, my son, And let your eyes delight in my ways.26 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.26 My son, give me your heart. Let your eyes find happiness in my ways.26 My son, give me your heart; and let your eyes keep in my ways.26 My son, give me thy heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
 For a harlot is a deep pit And an adulterous woman is a narrow well.27 For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.27 A prostitute is a deep pit. A loose woman is a narrow well.27 For a prostitute is a deep pit; and a wayward wife is a narrow well.27 For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.
 Surely she lurks as a robber, And increases the faithless among men.28 She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.28 She is like a robber, lying in ambush. She spreads unfaithfulness throughout society.28 Yes, she lies in wait like a robber, and increases the unfaithful among men.28 She also lieth in wait as a robber, and increaseth the treacherous among men.
 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaining? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes?29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?29 Who has trouble? Who has misery? Who has quarrels? Who has a complaint? Who has wounds for no reason? Who has bloodshot eyes?29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?29 Who hath woe? Who hath sorrow? Who contentions? Who complaining? Who wounds without cause? Who redness of eyes?
 Those who linger long over wine, Those who go to taste mixed wine.30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.30 Those who drink glass after glass of wine and mix it with everything.30 Those who stay long at the wine; those who go to seek out mixed wine.30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to try mixed wine.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
 Do not look on the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, When it goes down smoothly;31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.31 Do not look at wine because it is red, because it sparkles in the cup, because it goes down smoothly.31 Don't look at the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly.31 Look not upon the wine when it is red, when it sparkleth in the cup, and goeth down smoothly:
 At the last it bites like a serpent And stings like a viper.32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.32 Later it bites like a snake and strikes like a poisonous snake.32 In the end, it bites like a snake, and poisons like a viper.32 at the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
 Your eyes will see strange things And your mind will utter perverse things.33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.33 Your eyes will see strange sights, and your mouth will say embarrassing things.33 Your eyes will see strange things, and your mind will imagine confusing things.33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thy heart shall speak froward things;
 And you will be like one who lies down in the middle of the sea, Or like one who lies down on the top of a mast.34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.34 You will be like someone lying down in the middle of the sea or like someone lying down on top of a ship's mast, saying,34 Yes, you will be as he who lies down in the midst of the sea, or as he who lies on top of the rigging:34 and thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, and as he that lieth down upon the top of a mast:
 "They struck me, but I did not become ill; They beat me, but I did not know it. When shall I awake? I will seek another drink."35 They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.35 "They strike me, but I feel no pain. They beat me, but I'm not aware of it. Whenever I wake up, I'm going to look for another drink."35 "They hit me, and I was not hurt! They beat me, and I don't feel it! When will I wake up? I can do it again. I can find another."35 'They have smitten me, and I am not sore; they have beaten me, and I knew it not. When shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.''
