<< Psalms 137 >>
Parallel NASB / KJV / GWT / WEB / DBY
An Experience of the Captivity.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 By the rivers of Babylon, There we sat down and wept, When we remembered Zion.1 By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.1 By the rivers of Babylon, we sat down and cried as we remembered Zion.1 By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down. Yes, we wept, when we remembered Zion.1 By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down; yea, we wept when we remembered Zion.
2 Upon the willows in the midst of it We hung our harps.2 We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.2 We hung our lyres on willow trees.2 On the willows in its midst, we hung up our harps.2 We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.
3 For there our captors demanded of us songs, And our tormentors mirth, saying, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion."3 For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.3 It was there that those who had captured us demanded that we sing. Those who guarded us wanted us to entertain them. [They said,] "Sing a song from Zion for us!"3 For there, those who led us captive asked us for songs. Those who tormented us demanded songs of joy: "Sing us one of the songs of Zion!"3 For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that made us wail required mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.
4 How can we sing the LORD'S song In a foreign land?4 How shall we sing the LORD's song in a strange land?4 How could we sing the LORD's song in a foreign land?4 How can we sing Yahweh's song in a foreign land?4 How should we sing a song of Jehovah's upon a foreign soil?
5 If I forget you, O Jerusalem, May my right hand forget her skill.5 If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.5 If I forget you, Jerusalem, let my right hand forget [how to play the lyre].5 If I forget you, Jerusalem, let my right hand forget its skill.5 If I forget thee, Jerusalem, let my right hand forget its skill;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth If I do not remember you, If I do not exalt Jerusalem Above my chief joy.6 If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.6 Let my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth if I don't remember you, if I don't consider Jerusalem my highest joy.6 Let my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth if I don't remember you; if I don't prefer Jerusalem above my chief joy.6 If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to my palate: if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.
7 Remember, O LORD, against the sons of Edom The day of Jerusalem, Who said, "Raze it, raze it To its very foundation."7 Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.7 O LORD, remember the people of Edom. Remember what they did the day Jerusalem [was captured]. They said, "Tear it down! Tear it down to its foundation."7 Remember, Yahweh, against the children of Edom, the day of Jerusalem; who said, "Raze it! Raze it even to its foundation!"7 Remember, O Jehovah, against the sons of Edom, the day of Jerusalem; who said, Lay it bare, Lay it bare, down to its foundation!
8 O daughter of Babylon, you devastated one, How blessed will be the one who repays you With the recompense with which you have repaid us.8 O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.8 You destructive people of Babylon, blessed is the one who pays you back with the same treatment you gave us.8 Daughter of Babylon, doomed to destruction, he will be happy who rewards you, as you have served us.8 Daughter of Babylon, who art to be laid waste, happy he that rendereth unto thee that which thou hast meted out to us.
9 How blessed will be the one who seizes and dashes your little ones Against the rock.9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.9 Blessed is the one who grabs your little children and smashes them against a rock.9 Happy shall he be, who takes and dashes your little ones against the rock. By David.9 Happy he that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the rock.
