Tradition and Commandment
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 Then some Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said,1 Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,1 Then some Pharisees and scribes came from Jerusalem to Jesus. They asked,1 Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem, saying,1 Then the scribes and Pharisees from Jerusalem come up to Jesus, saying,
2 "Why do Your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread."2 Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.2 "Why do your disciples break the traditions of our ancestors? They do not wash their hands before they eat."2 "Why do your disciples disobey the tradition of the elders? For they don't wash their hands when they eat bread."2 Why do thy disciples transgress what has been delivered by the ancients? for they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.
3 And He answered and said to them, "Why do you yourselves transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?3 He answered them, "Why do you break the commandment of God because of your traditions?3 He answered them, "Why do you also disobey the commandment of God because of your tradition?3 But he answering said to them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God on account of your traditional teaching?
4 "For God said, 'HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER,' and, 'HE WHO SPEAKS EVIL OF FATHER OR MOTHER IS TO BE PUT TO DEATH.'4 For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.4 For example, God said, 'Honor your father and your mother' and 'Whoever curses father or mother must be put to death.'4 For God commanded, 'Honor your father and your mother,' and, 'He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.'4 For God commanded saying, Honour father and mother; and, He that speaks ill of father or mother, let him die the death.
5 "But you say, 'Whoever says to his father or mother, "Whatever I have that would help you has been given to God,"5 But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;5 But you say that whoever tells his father or mother, 'I have given to God whatever support you might have received from me,'5 But you say, 'Whoever may tell his father or his mother, "Whatever help you might otherwise have gotten from me is a gift devoted to God,"5 But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or mother, It is a gift, whatsoever it be by which received from me thou wouldest be profited:

6 he is not to honor his father or his mother.' And by this you invalidated the word of God for the sake of your tradition.6 And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.6 does not have to honor his father. Because of your traditions you have destroyed the authority of God's word.6 he shall not honor his father or mother.' You have made the commandment of God void because of your tradition.6 and he shall in no wise honour his father or his mother; and ye have made void the commandment of God on account of your traditional teaching.
7 "You hypocrites, rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you:7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,7 You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:7 You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,7 Hypocrites! well has Esaias prophesied about you, saying,
8 'THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS, BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME.8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.8 'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.8 'These people draw near to me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.8 This people honour me with the lips, but their heart is far away from me;
9 'BUT IN VAIN DO THEY WORSHIP ME, TEACHING AS DOCTRINES THE PRECEPTS OF MEN.'"9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.9 Their worship of me is pointless, because their teachings are rules made by humans.'"9 And in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrine rules made by men.'"9 but in vain do they worship me, teaching as teachings commandments of men.
10 After Jesus called the crowd to Him, He said to them, "Hear and understand.10 And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:10 Then he called the crowd and said to them, "Listen and try to understand!10 He summoned the multitude, and said to them, "Hear, and understand.10 And having called to him the crowd, he said to them, Hear and understand:
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 "It is not what enters into the mouth that defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man."11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.11 What goes into a person's mouth doesn't make him unclean. It's what comes out of the mouth that makes a person unclean."11 That which enters into the mouth doesn't defile the man; but that which proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man."11 Not what enters into the mouth defiles the man; but what goes forth out of the mouth, this defiles the man.
12 Then the disciples came and said to Him, "Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this statement?"12 Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?12 Then the disciples came and said to him, "Do you realize that when the Pharisees heard your statement they were offended?"12 Then the disciples came, and said to him, "Do you know that the Pharisees were offended, when they heard this saying?"12 Then his disciples, coming up, said to him, Dost thou know that the Pharisees, having heard this word, have been offended?
13 But He answered and said, "Every plant which My heavenly Father did not plant shall be uprooted.13 But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.13 He answered, "Any plant that my heavenly Father did not plant will be uprooted.13 But he answered, "Every plant which my heavenly Father didn't plant will be uprooted.13 But he answering said, Every plant which my heavenly Father has not planted shall be rooted up.
14 "Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind. And if a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit."14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.14 Leave them alone! They are blind leaders. When one blind person leads another, both will fall into the same pit."14 Leave them alone. They are blind guides of the blind. If the blind guide the blind, both will fall into a pit."14 Leave them alone; they are blind leaders of blind: but if blind lead blind, both will fall into a ditch.
The Heart of Man
15 Peter said to Him, "Explain the parable to us."15 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.15 Peter said to him, "Explain this illustration to us."15 Peter answered him, "Explain the parable to us."15 And Peter answering said to him, Expound to us this parable.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 Jesus said, "Are you still lacking in understanding also?16 And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?16 Jesus said, "Don't you understand yet?16 So Jesus said, "Do you also still not understand?16 But he said, Are ye also still without intelligence?
17 "Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and is eliminated?17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?17 Don't you know that whatever goes into the mouth goes into the stomach and then into a toilet?17 Don't you understand that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the belly, and then out of the body?17 Do ye not yet apprehend, that everything that enters into the mouth finds its way into the belly, and is cast forth into the draught?
18 "But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man.18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.18 But whatever goes out of the mouth comes from within, and that's what makes a person unclean.18 But the things which proceed out of the mouth come out of the heart, and they defile the man.18 but the things which go forth out of the mouth come out of the heart, and those defile man.
19 "For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders.19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:19 Evil thoughts, murder, adultery, [other] sexual sins, stealing, lying, and cursing come from within.19 For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual sins, thefts, false testimony, and blasphemies.19 For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witnessings, blasphemies;
20 "These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man."20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.20 These are the things that make a person unclean. But eating without washing one's hands doesn't make a person unclean."20 These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands doesn't defile the man."20 these are the things which defile man; but the eating with unwashen hands does not defile man.
The Syrophoenician Woman
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
21 Jesus went away from there, and withdrew into the district of Tyre and Sidon.21 Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.21 Jesus left that place and went to the region of Tyre and Sidon.21 Jesus went out from there, and withdrew into the region of Tyre and Sidon.21 And Jesus, going forth from thence, went away into the parts of Tyre and Sidon;
22 And a Canaanite woman from that region came out and began to cry out, saying, "Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is cruelly demon-possessed."22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.22 A Canaanite woman from that territory came [to him] and began to shout, "Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is tormented by a demon."22 Behold, a Canaanite woman came out from those borders, and cried, saying, "Have mercy on me, Lord, you son of David! My daughter is severely demonized!"22 and lo, a Canaanitish woman, coming out from those borders, cried to him saying, Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is miserably possessed by a demon.
23 But He did not answer her a word. And His disciples came and implored Him, saying, "Send her away, because she keeps shouting at us."23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.23 But he did not answer her at all. Then his disciples came to him and urged him, "Send her away. She keeps shouting behind us."23 But he answered her not a word. His disciples came and begged him, saying, "Send her away; for she cries after us."23 But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came to him and asked him, saying, Dismiss her, for she cries after us.
24 But He answered and said, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.24 Jesus responded, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the nation of Israel."24 But he answered, "I wasn't sent to anyone but the lost sheep of the house of Israel."24 But he answering said, I have not been sent save to the lost sheep of Israel's house.
25 But she came and began to bow down before Him, saying, "Lord, help me!"25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.25 She came to him, bowed down, and said, "Lord, help me!"25 But she came and worshiped him, saying, "Lord, help me."25 But she came and did him homage, saying, Lord, help me.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
26 And He answered and said, "It is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs."26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.26 Jesus replied, "It's not right to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs."26 But he answered, "It is not appropriate to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs."26 But he answering said, It is not well to take the bread of the children and cast it to the dogs.
27 But she said, "Yes, Lord; but even the dogs feed on the crumbs which fall from their masters' table."27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.27 She said, "You're right, Lord. But even the dogs eat scraps that fall from their masters' tables."27 But she said, "Yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters' table."27 But she said, Yea, Lord; for even the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from the table of their masters.
28 Then Jesus said to her, "O woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you wish." And her daughter was healed at once.28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.28 Then Jesus answered her, "Woman, you have strong faith! What you wanted will be done for you." At that moment her daughter was cured.28 Then Jesus answered her, "Woman, great is your faith! Be it done to you even as you desire." And her daughter was healed from that hour.28 Then Jesus answering said to her, O woman, thy faith is great. Be it to thee as thou desirest. And her daughter was healed from that hour.
Healing Crowds
29 Departing from there, Jesus went along by the Sea of Galilee, and having gone up on the mountain, He was sitting there.29 And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there.29 Jesus moved on from there and went along the Sea of Galilee. Then he went up a mountain and sat there.29 Jesus departed there, and came near to the sea of Galilee; and he went up into the mountain, and sat there.29 And Jesus, going away from thence, came towards the sea of Galilee, and he went up into the mountain and sat down there;
30 And large crowds came to Him, bringing with them those who were lame, crippled, blind, mute, and many others, and they laid them down at His feet; and He healed them.30 And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them:30 A large crowd came to him, bringing with them the lame, blind, disabled, those unable to talk, and many others. They laid them at his feet, and he cured them.30 Great multitudes came to him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others, and they put them down at his feet. He healed them,30 and great crowds came to him, having with them lame, blind, dumb, crippled, and many others, and they cast them at his feet, and he healed them:
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
31 So the crowd marveled as they saw the mute speaking, the crippled restored, and the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.31 Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.31 The crowd was amazed to see mute people talking, the disabled cured, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. So they praised the God of Israel.31 so that the multitude wondered when they saw the mute speaking, injured whole, lame walking, and blind seeing--and they glorified the God of Israel.31 so that the crowds wondered, seeing dumb speaking, crippled sound, lame walking, and blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.
Four Thousand Fed
32 And Jesus called His disciples to Him, and said, "I feel compassion for the people, because they have remained with Me now three days and have nothing to eat; and I do not want to send them away hungry, for they might faint on the way."32 Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.32 Jesus called his disciples and said, "I feel sorry for the people. They have been with me three days now and have nothing to eat. I don't want to send them away hungry, or they may become exhausted on their way home."32 Jesus summoned his disciples and said, "I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days and have nothing to eat. I don't want to send them away fasting, or they might faint on the way."32 But Jesus, having called his disciples to him, said, I have compassion on the crowd, because they have stayed with me already three days and they have not anything they can eat, and I would not send them away fasting lest they should faint on the way.
33 The disciples said to Him, "Where would we get so many loaves in this desolate place to satisfy such a large crowd?"33 And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude?33 His disciples asked him, "Where could we get enough bread to feed such a crowd in this place where no one lives?"33 The disciples said to him, "Where should we get so many loaves in a deserted place as to satisfy so great a multitude?"33 And his disciples say to him, Whence should we have so many loaves in the wilderness as to satisfy so great a crowd?
34 And Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?" And they said, "Seven, and a few small fish."34 And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes.34 Jesus asked them, "How many loaves of bread do you have?" They answered, "Seven, and a few small fish."34 Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?" They said, "Seven, and a few small fish."34 And Jesus says to them, How many loaves have ye? But they said, Seven, and a few small fishes.
35 And He directed the people to sit down on the ground;35 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.35 He ordered the crowd to sit down on the ground.35 He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground;35 And he commanded the crowds to lie down on the ground;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
36 and He took the seven loaves and the fish; and giving thanks, He broke them and started giving them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.36 And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.36 He took the seven loaves and the fish and gave thanks to God. Then he broke the bread and gave it to the disciples, and they gave the bread and fish to the people.36 and he took the seven loaves and the fish. He gave thanks and broke them, and gave to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes.36 and having taken the seven loaves and the fishes, having given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples, and the disciples to the crowd.
37 And they all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up what was left over of the broken pieces, seven large baskets full.37 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full.37 All of them ate as much as they wanted. The disciples picked up the leftover pieces and filled seven large baskets.37 They all ate, and were filled. They took up seven baskets full of the broken pieces that were left over.37 And all ate and were filled; and they took up what was over and above of the fragments seven baskets full;
38 And those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children.38 And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.38 Four thousand men had eaten. (This number does not include the women and children who had eaten.)38 Those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children.38 but they that ate were four thousand men, besides women and children.
39 And sending away the crowds, Jesus got into the boat and came to the region of Magadan.39 And he sent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala.39 After he sent the people on their way, Jesus stepped into the boat and came to the territory of Magadan.39 Then he sent away the multitudes, got into the boat, and came into the borders of Magdala.39 And, having dismissed the crowds, he went on board ship and came to the borders of Magadan.
