Pharisees Test Jesus
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 The Pharisees and Sadducees came up, and testing Jesus, they asked Him to show them a sign from heaven.1 The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.1 The Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus. So they asked him to show them a miraculous sign from heaven.1 The Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing him, asked him to show them a sign from heaven.1 And the Pharisees and Sadducees, coming to him, asked him, tempting him, to shew them a sign out of heaven.
2 But He replied to them, "When it is evening, you say, 'It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.'2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.2 He responded to them, "In the evening you say that the weather will be fine because the sky is red.2 But he answered them, "When it is evening, you say, 'It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.'2 But he answering said to them, When evening is come, ye say, Fine weather, for the sky is red;
3 "And in the morning, 'There will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.' Do you know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times?3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?3 And in the morning you say that there will be a storm today because the sky is red and overcast. You can forecast the weather by judging the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.3 In the morning, 'It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.' Hypocrites! You know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but you can't discern the signs of the times!3 and in the morning, A storm to-day, for the sky is red and lowering; ye know how to discern the face of the sky, but ye cannot the signs of the times.
4 "An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and a sign will not be given it, except the sign of Jonah." And He left them and went away.4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.4 "Evil and unfaithful people look for a miraculous sign. But the only sign they will be given is that of Jonah." Then he left them standing there and went away.4 An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and there will be no sign given to it, except the sign of the prophet Jonah." He left them, and departed.4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and a sign shall not be given to it save the sign of Jonas. And he left them and went away.
5 And the disciples came to the other side of the sea, but they had forgotten to bring any bread.5 And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.5 The disciples had forgotten to take any bread along when they went to the other side of the Sea of Galilee.5 The disciples came to the other side and had forgotten to take bread.5 And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 And Jesus said to them, "Watch out and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees."6 Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.6 Jesus said to them, "Be careful! Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees!"6 Jesus said to them, "Take heed and beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees."6 And Jesus said to them, See and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
7 They began to discuss this among themselves, saying, "He said that because we did not bring any bread."7 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread.7 The disciples had been discussing among themselves that they had not taken any bread along.7 They reasoned among themselves, saying, "We brought no bread."7 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, Because we have taken no bread.
8 But Jesus, aware of this, said, "You men of little faith, why do you discuss among yourselves that you have no bread?8 Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?8 Jesus knew about their conversation and asked, "Why are you discussing among yourselves that you don't have any bread? You have so little faith!8 Jesus, perceiving it, said, "Why do you reason among yourselves, you of little faith, 'because you have brought no bread?'8 And Jesus knowing it, said, Why reason ye among yourselves, O ye of little faith, because ye have taken no bread?
9 "Do you not yet understand or remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets full you picked up?9 Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?9 Don't you understand yet? Don't you remember the five loaves for the five thousand and how many baskets you filled?9 Don't you yet perceive, neither remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many baskets you took up?9 Do ye not yet understand nor remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many hand-baskets ye took up?
10 "Or the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many large baskets full you picked up?10 Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?10 Don't you remember the seven loaves for the four thousand and how many large baskets you filled?10 Nor the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many baskets you took up?10 nor the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 "How is it that you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread? But beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees."11 How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?11 Why don't you understand that I wasn't talking to you about bread? Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees!"11 How is it that you don't perceive that I didn't speak to you concerning bread? But beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees."11 How do ye not understand that it was not concerning bread I said to you, Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees?
12 Then they understood that He did not say to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.12 Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.12 Then they understood that he didn't say to watch out for the yeast in bread, but to watch out for the teachings of the Pharisees and Sadducees.12 Then they understood that he didn't tell them to beware of the yeast of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.12 Then they comprehended that he did not speak of being beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Peter’s Confession of Christ
13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?"13 Now when Jesus came into the parts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, "Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?"13 But when Jesus was come into the parts of Caesarea-Philippi, he demanded of his disciples, saying, Who do men say that I the Son of man am?
14 And they said, "Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets."14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.14 They answered, "Some say you are John the Baptizer, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."14 They said, "Some say John the Baptizer, some, Elijah, and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets."14 And they said, Some, John the baptist; and others, Elias; and others again, Jeremias or one of the prophets.
15 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?15 He asked them, "But who do you say I am?"15 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"15 He says to them, But ye, who do ye say that I am?
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.16 Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God!"16 Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."16 And Simon Peter answering said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.17 Jesus replied, "Simon, son of Jonah, you are blessed! No human revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven revealed it to you.17 Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.17 And Jesus answering said to him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona, for flesh and blood has not revealed it to thee, but my Father who is in the heavens.
18 "I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.18 You are Peter, and I can guarantee that on this rock I will build my church. And the gates of hell will not overpower it. 18 I also tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my assembly, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it.18 And I also, I say unto thee that thou art Peter, and on this rock I will build my assembly, and hades' gates shall not prevail against it.
19 "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven."19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you imprison, God will imprison. And whatever you set free, God will set free."19 I will give to you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven; and whatever you release on earth will have been released in heaven."19 And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of the heavens; and whatsoever thou mayest bind upon the earth shall be bound in the heavens; and whatsoever thou mayest loose on the earth shall be loosed in the heavens.
20 Then He warned the disciples that they should tell no one that He was the Christ.20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.20 Then he strictly ordered the disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.20 Then he commanded the disciples that they should tell no one that he was Jesus the Christ.20 Then he enjoined on his disciples that they should say to no man that he was the Christ.
Jesus Foretells His Death
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
21 From that time Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised up on the third day.21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.21 From that time on Jesus began to inform his disciples that he had to go to Jerusalem. There he would have to suffer a lot because of the leaders, chief priests, and scribes. He would be killed, but on the third day he would be brought back to life.21 From that time, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.21 From that time Jesus began to shew to his disciples that he must go away to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised.
22 Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, "God forbid it, Lord! This shall never happen to You."22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.22 Peter took him aside and objected to this. He said, "Heaven forbid, Lord! This must never happen to you!"22 Peter took him aside, and began to rebuke him, saying, "Far be it from you, Lord! This will never be done to you."22 And Peter taking him to him began to rebuke him, saying, God be favourable to thee, Lord; this shall in no wise be unto thee.
23 But He turned and said to Peter, "Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on God's interests, but man's."23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.23 But Jesus turned and said to Peter, "Get out of my way, Satan! You are tempting me to sin. You aren't thinking the way God thinks but the way humans think."23 But he turned, and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me, for you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of men."23 But turning round, he said to Peter, Get away behind me, Satan; thou art an offence to me, for thy mind is not on the things that are of God, but on the things that are of men.
Discipleship Is Costly
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Those who want to come with me must say no to the things they want, pick up their crosses, and follow me.24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, If any one desires to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
25 "For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.25 Those who want to save their lives will lose them. But those who lose their lives for me will find them.25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, and whoever will lose his life for my sake will find it.25 For whosoever shall desire to save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake shall find it.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
26 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?26 What good will it do for people to win the whole world and lose their lives? Or what will a person give in exchange for life?26 For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life?26 For what does a man profit, if he should gain the whole world and suffer the loss of his soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
27 "For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and WILL THEN REPAY EVERY MAN ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS.27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.27 The Son of Man will come with his angels in his Father's glory. Then he will pay back each person based on what that person has done.27 For the Son of Man will come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he will render to everyone according to his deeds.27 For the Son of man is about to come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he will render to each according to his doings.
28 "Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom."28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.28 I can guarantee this truth: Some people who are standing here will not die until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."28 Most certainly I tell you, there are some standing here who will in no way taste of death, until they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom."28 Verily I say unto you, There are some of those standing here that shall not taste of death at all until they shall have seen the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
