Keep Fervent in Your Love
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;1 Since Christ has suffered physically, take the same attitude that he had. (A person who has suffered physically no longer sins.)1 Forasmuch then as Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin;1 Christ, then, having suffered for us in the flesh, do ye also arm yourselves with the same mind; for he that has suffered in the flesh has done with sin,
2 so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.2 That way you won't be guided by sinful human desires as you live the rest of your lives on earth. Instead, you will be guided by what God wants you to do.2 that you no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.2 no longer to live the rest of his time in the flesh to men's lusts, but to God's will.
3 For the time already past is sufficient for you to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, having pursued a course of sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties and abominable idolatries.3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:3 You spent enough time in the past doing what unbelievers like to do. You were promiscuous, had sinful desires, got drunk, went to wild parties, and took part in the forbidden worship of false gods.3 For we have spent enough of our past time doing the desire of the Gentiles, and having walked in lewdness, lusts, drunken binges, orgies, carousings, and abominable idolatries.3 For the time past is sufficient for us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, walking in lasciviousness, lusts, wine-drinking, revels, drinkings, and unhallowed idolatries.
4 In all this, they are surprised that you do not run with them into the same excesses of dissipation, and they malign you;4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:4 Unbelievers insult you now because they are surprised that you no longer join them in the same excesses of wild living.4 They think it is strange that you don't run with them into the same excess of riot, blaspheming:4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same sink of corruption, speaking injuriously of you;
5 but they will give account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.5 They will give an account to the one who is ready to judge the living and the dead.5 who will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.5 who shall render account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the spirit according to the will of God.6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.6 After all, the Good News was told to people like that, although they are now dead. It was told to them so that they could be judged like humans in their earthly lives and live like God in their spiritual lives.6 For to this end the Good News was preached even to the dead, that they might be judged indeed as men in the flesh, but live as to God in the spirit.6 For to this end were the glad tidings preached to the dead also, that they might be judged, as regards men, after the flesh, but live, as regards God, after the Spirit.
7 The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer.7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.7 The end of everything is near. Therefore, practice self-control, and keep your minds clear so that you can pray.7 But the end of all things is near. Therefore be of sound mind, self-controlled, and sober in prayer.7 But the end of all things is drawn nigh: be sober therefore, and be watchful unto prayers;
8 Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.8 Above all, love each other warmly, because love covers many sins.8 And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins.8 but before all things having fervent love among yourselves, because love covers a multitude of sins;
9 Be hospitable to one another without complaint.9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.9 Welcome each other as guests without complaining.9 Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.9 hospitable one to another, without murmuring;
10 As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.10 Each of you as a good manager must use the gift that God has given you to serve others.10 As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms.10 each according as he has received a gift, ministering it to one another, as good stewards of the various grace of God.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.11 Whoever speaks must speak God's words. Whoever serves must serve with the strength God supplies so that in every way God receives glory through Jesus Christ. Glory and power belong to Jesus Christ forever and ever! Amen.11 If anyone speaks, let it be as it were the very words of God. If anyone serves, let it be as of the strength which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.11 If any one speak as oracles of God; if any one minister as of strength which God supplies; that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom is the glory and the might for the ages of ages. Amen.
Share the Sufferings of Christ
12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you;12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:12 Dear friends, don't be surprised by the fiery troubles that are coming in order to test you. Don't feel as though something strange is happening to you,12 Beloved, don't be astonished at the fiery trial which has come upon you, to test you, as though a strange thing happened to you.12 Beloved, take not as strange the fire of persecution which has taken place amongst you for your trial, as if a strange thing was happening to you;
13 but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation.13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.13 but be happy as you share Christ's sufferings. Then you will also be full of joy when he appears again in his glory.13 But because you are partakers of Christ's sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory you also may rejoice with exceeding joy.13 but as ye have share in the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, that in the revelation of his glory also ye may rejoice with exultation.
14 If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.14 If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed because the Spirit of glory-the Spirit of God-is resting on you.14 If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed; because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. On their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.14 If ye are reproached in the name of Christ, blessed are ye; for the Spirit of glory and the Spirit of God rests upon you: on their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.
15 Make sure that none of you suffers as a murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or a troublesome meddler;15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.15 If you suffer, you shouldn't suffer for being a murderer, thief, criminal, or troublemaker.15 For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil doer, or a meddler in other men's matters.15 Let none of you suffer indeed as murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or as overseer of other people's matters;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 but if anyone suffers as a Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God in this name.16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.16 If you suffer for being a Christian, don't feel ashamed, but praise God for being called that name.16 But if one of you suffers for being a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this matter.16 but if as a christian, let him not be ashamed, but glorify God in this name.
17 For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?17 The time has come for the judgment to begin, and it will begin with God's family. If it starts with us, what will be the end for those who refuse to obey the Good News of God?17 For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God. If it begins first with us, what will happen to those who don't obey the Good News of God?17 For the time of having the judgment begin from the house of God is come; but if first from us, what shall be the end of those who obey not the glad tidings of God?
18 AND IF IT IS WITH DIFFICULTY THAT THE RIGHTEOUS IS SAVED, WHAT WILL BECOME OF THE GODLESS MAN AND THE SINNER?18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?18 If it's hard for the person who has God's approval to be saved, what will happen to the godless sinner?18 "If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will happen to the ungodly and the sinner?"18 And if the righteous is difficultly saved, where shall the impious and the sinner appear?
19 Therefore, those also who suffer according to the will of God shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right.19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.19 Those who suffer because that is God's will for them must entrust themselves to a faithful creator and continue to do what is good.19 Therefore let them also who suffer according to the will of God in doing good entrust their souls to him, as to a faithful Creator.19 Wherefore also let them who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls in well-doing to a faithful Creator.
