Peter Reports at Jerusalem
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 Now the apostles and the brethren who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God.1 And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.1 The apostles and the believers throughout Judea heard that people who were not Jewish had accepted God's word.1 Now the apostles and the brothers who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.1 And the apostles and the brethren who were in Judaea heard that the nations also had received the word of God;
2 And when Peter came up to Jerusalem, those who were circumcised took issue with him,2 And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,2 However, when Peter went to Jerusalem, the believers who insisted on circumcision began to argue with him.2 When Peter had come up to Jerusalem, those who were of the circumcision contended with him,2 and when Peter went up to Jerusalem, they of the circumcision contended with him,
3 saying, "You went to uncircumcised men and ate with them."3 Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.3 They said, "You went to visit men who were uncircumcised, and you even ate with them."3 saying, "You went in to uncircumcised men, and ate with them!"3 saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised and hast eaten with them.
4 But Peter began speaking and proceeded to explain to them in orderly sequence, saying,4 But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying,4 Then Peter began to explain to them point by point what had happened. He said,4 But Peter began, and explained to them in order, saying,4 But Peter began and set forth the matter to them in order, saying,
5 "I was in the city of Joppa praying; and in a trance I saw a vision, an object coming down like a great sheet lowered by four corners from the sky; and it came right down to me,5 I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me:5 "I was praying in the city of Joppa when I fell into a trance. I saw something like a large linen sheet being lowered by its four corners from the sky. The sheet came near me.5 "I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision: a certain container descending, like it was a great sheet let down from heaven by four corners. It came as far as me.5 I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in an ecstasy I saw a vision, a certain vessel descending like a great sheet, let down by four corners out of heaven, and it came even to me:
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 and when I had fixed my gaze on it and was observing it I saw the four-footed animals of the earth and the wild beasts and the crawling creatures and the birds of the air.6 Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.6 I looked into the sheet very closely and saw tame animals, wild animals, reptiles, and birds.6 When I had looked intently at it, I considered, and saw the four-footed animals of the earth, wild animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky.6 on which having fixed mine eyes, I considered, and saw the quadrupeds of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the creeping things, and the fowls of the heaven.
7 "I also heard a voice saying to me, 'Get up, Peter; kill and eat.'7 And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat.7 I also heard a voice telling me, 'Get up, Peter! Kill these animals, and eat them.'7 I also heard a voice saying to me, 'Rise, Peter, kill and eat!'7 And I heard also a voice saying to me, Rise up, Peter, slay and eat.
8 "But I said, 'By no means, Lord, for nothing unholy or unclean has ever entered my mouth.'8 But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.8 "But I answered, 'I can't do that, Lord! I've never put anything impure or unclean into my mouth.' 8 But I said, 'Not so, Lord, for nothing unholy or unclean has ever entered into my mouth.'8 And I said, In no wise, Lord, for common or unclean has never entered into my mouth.
9 "But a voice from heaven answered a second time, 'What God has cleansed, no longer consider unholy.'9 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.9 "A voice spoke from heaven a second time, 'Don't say that the things which God has made clean are impure.' 9 But a voice answered me the second time out of heaven, 'What God has cleansed, don't you call unclean.'9 And a voice answered the second time out of heaven, What God has cleansed, do not thou make common.
10 "This happened three times, and everything was drawn back up into the sky.10 And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven.10 This happened three times. Then everything was pulled back into the sky again.10 This was done three times, and all were drawn up again into heaven.10 And this took place thrice, and again all was drawn up into heaven;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 "And behold, at that moment three men appeared at the house in which we were staying, having been sent to me from Caesarea.11 And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Caesarea unto me.11 "At that moment three men arrived at the house where we were staying. They had been sent from Caesarea to find me.11 Behold, immediately three men stood before the house where I was, having been sent from Caesarea to me.11 and lo, immediately three men were at the house in which I was, sent to me from Caesarea.
12 "The Spirit told me to go with them without misgivings. These six brethren also went with me and we entered the man's house.12 And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man's house:12 The Spirit told me to go with them without any hesitation. Six believers [from Joppa] went with me, and we visited Cornelius' home.12 The Spirit told me to go with them, without discriminating. These six brothers also accompanied me, and we entered into the man's house.12 And the Spirit said to me to go with them, nothing doubting. And there went with me these six brethren also, and we entered into the house of the man,
13 "And he reported to us how he had seen the angel standing in his house, and saying, 'Send to Joppa and have Simon, who is also called Peter, brought here;13 And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter;13 "He told us that he had seen an angel standing in his home. The angel told him, 'Send messengers to Joppa, and summon a man whose name is Simon Peter.13 He told us how he had seen the angel standing in his house, and saying to him, 'Send to Joppa, and get Simon, whose surname is Peter,13 and he related to us how he had seen the angel in his house, standing and saying to him, Send men to Joppa and fetch Simon, who is surnamed Peter,
14 and he will speak words to you by which you will be saved, you and all your household.'14 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.14 He will give you a message that will save you and everyone in your home.'14 who will speak to you words by which you will be saved, you and all your house.'14 who shall speak words to thee whereby thou shalt be saved, thou and all thy house.
15 "And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them just as He did upon us at the beginning.15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.15 "When I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came to these people. This was the same thing that happened to us in the beginning.15 As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, even as on us at the beginning.15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them even as upon us also at the beginning.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 "And I remembered the word of the Lord, how He used to say, 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.16 I remembered that the Lord had said, 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized by the Holy Spirit.'16 I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, 'John indeed baptized in water, but you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit.'16 And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, John baptised with water, but ye shall be baptised with the Holy Spirit.
17 "Therefore if God gave to them the same gift as He gave to us also after believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God's way?"17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?17 When they believed, God gave them the same gift that he gave us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ. So who was I to interfere with God?"17 If then God gave to them the same gift as us, when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstand God?"17 If then God has given them the same gift as also to us when we had believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who indeed was I to be able to forbid God?
18 When they heard this, they quieted down and glorified God, saying, "Well then, God has granted to the Gentiles also the repentance that leads to life."18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.18 When the others heard this, they had no further objections. They praised God by saying, "Then God has also led people who are not Jewish to turn to him so that they can change the way they think and act and have eternal life."18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, "Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life!"18 And when they heard these things they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then indeed God has to the nations also granted repentance to life.
The Church at Antioch
19 So then those who were scattered because of the persecution that occurred in connection with Stephen made their way to Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except to Jews alone.19 Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only.19 Some of the believers who were scattered by the trouble that broke out following Stephen's death went as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and the city of Antioch. They spoke God's word only to Jewish people.19 They therefore who were scattered abroad by the oppression that arose about Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except to Jews only.19 They then who had been scattered abroad through the tribulation that took place on the occasion of Stephen, passed through the country to Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to no one but to Jews alone.
20 But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who came to Antioch and began speaking to the Greeks also, preaching the Lord Jesus.20 And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the LORD Jesus.20 But other believers, who were from Cyprus and Cyrene, arrived in Antioch. They started to spread the Good News about the Lord Jesus to Greeks.20 But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they had come to Antioch, spoke to the Hellenists, preaching the Lord Jesus.20 But there were certain of them, Cyprians and Cyrenians, who entering into Antioch spoke to the Greeks also, announcing the glad tidings of the Lord Jesus.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
21 And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a large number who believed turned to the Lord.21 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.21 The Lord's power was with his followers, and a large number of people believed and turned to the Lord.21 The hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number believed and turned to the Lord.21 And the Lord's hand was with them, and a great number believed and turned to the Lord.
22 The news about them reached the ears of the church at Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas off to Antioch.22 Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.22 After the news about Antioch reached the church in Jerusalem, Barnabas was sent to Antioch.22 The report concerning them came to the ears of the assembly which was in Jerusalem. They sent out Barnabas to go as far as Antioch,22 And the report concerning them reached the ears of the assembly which was in Jerusalem, and they sent out Barnabas to go through as far as Antioch:
23 Then when he arrived and witnessed the grace of God, he rejoiced and began to encourage them all with resolute heart to remain true to the Lord;23 Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.23 When he arrived there, he was pleased to see what God had done for them out of kindness. So he encouraged all the people to remain solidly committed to the Lord. 23 who, when he had come, and had seen the grace of God, was glad. He exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they should remain near to the Lord.23 who, having arrived and seeing the grace of God, rejoiced, and exhorted all with purpose of heart to abide with the Lord;
24 for he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And considerable numbers were brought to the Lord.24 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.24 Barnabas was a dependable man, and he was full of the Holy Spirit and faith. A large crowd believed in the Lord.24 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith, and many people were added to the Lord.24 for he was a good man and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith; and a large crowd of people were added to the Lord.
25 And he left for Tarsus to look for Saul;25 Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:25 Then Barnabas left Antioch to go to the city of Tarsus to look for Saul.25 Barnabas went out to Tarsus to look for Saul.25 And he went away to Tarsus to seek out Saul.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
26 and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. And for an entire year they met with the church and taught considerable numbers; and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.26 After finding Saul, Barnabas brought him back to Antioch. Barnabas and Saul met with the church in Antioch for a whole year and taught a large group of people. The disciples were called Christians for the first time in the city of Antioch.26 When he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. It happened, that for a whole year they were gathered together with the assembly, and taught many people. The disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.26 And having found him, he brought him to Antioch. And so it was with them that for a whole year they were gathered together in the assembly and taught a large crowd: and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
27 Now at this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.27 And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.27 At that time some prophets came from Jerusalem to the city of Antioch.27 Now in these days, prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.27 Now in these days prophets went down from Jerusalem to Antioch;
28 One of them named Agabus stood up and began to indicate by the Spirit that there would certainly be a great famine all over the world. And this took place in the reign of Claudius.28 And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.28 One of them was named Agabus. Through the Spirit Agabus predicted that a severe famine would affect the entire world. This happened while Claudius was emperor.28 One of them named Agabus stood up, and indicated by the Spirit that there should be a great famine all over the world, which also happened in the days of Claudius.28 and one from among them, by name Agabus, rose up and signified by the Spirit that there was going to be a great famine over all the inhabited earth, which also came to pass under Claudius.
29 And in the proportion that any of the disciples had means, each of them determined to send a contribution for the relief of the brethren living in Judea.29 Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea:29 All the disciples in Antioch decided to contribute whatever they could afford to help the believers living in Judea.29 As any of the disciples had plenty, each determined to send relief to the brothers who lived in Judea;29 And they determined, according as any one of the disciples was well off, each of them to send to the brethren who dwelt in Judaea, to minister to them;
30 And this they did, sending it in charge of Barnabas and Saul to the elders.30 Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.30 The disciples did this and sent their contribution with Barnabas and Saul to the leaders [in Jerusalem].30 which they also did, sending it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.30 which also they did, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.
