1 Now there were at Antioch, in the church that was there, prophets and teachers: Barnabas, and Simeon who was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.1 Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.1 Barnabas, Simeon (called the Black), Lucius (from Cyrene), Manaen (a close friend of Herod since childhood), and Saul were prophets and teachers in the church in Antioch.1 Now in the assembly that was at Antioch there were some prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen the foster brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.1 Now there were in Antioch, in the assembly which was there, prophets and teachers: Barnabas, and Simeon who was called Niger, and Lucius the Cyrenian, and Manaen, foster-brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
2 While they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set Barnabas and Saul apart for me. I want them to do the work for which I called them."2 As they served the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, "Separate Barnabas and Saul for me, for the work to which I have called them."2 And as they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, Separate me now Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.

5 When they reached Salamis, they began to proclaim the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews; and they also had John as their helper.5 And when they were at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John to their minister.5 Arriving in the city of Salamis, they began to spread God's word in the synagogues. John Mark had gone along to help them.5 When they were at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. 6 When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they found a magician, a Jewish false prophet whose name was Bar-Jesus,6 And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Barjesus:6 They went through the whole island as far as the city of Paphos. In Paphos they met a Jewish man named Barjesus. 7 who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God.7 Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.7 He was associated with an intelligent man, Sergius Paulus, who was the governor of the island. The governor sent for Barnabas and Saul because he wanted to hear the word of God.7 who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of understanding. 8 But Elymas the magician (for so his name is translated) was opposing them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.8 Elymas, whose name means [astrologer], opposed them and tried to distort the meaning of the faith so that the governor wouldn't believe.8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn aside the proconsul from the faith.8 But Elymas the magician (for so his name is by interpretation) opposed them, seeking to turn away the proconsul from the faith.
9 But Saul, who was also known as Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fixed his gaze on him,9 Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him.9 But Saul, also known as Paul, was filled with the Holy Spirit. 10 and said, "You who are full of all deceit and fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to make crooked the straight ways of the Lord?10 And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?10 and said, "You are full of dirty tricks and schemes, you son of the devil! You hate everything that has God's approval. Quit trying to distort the truth about the way the Lord wants people to live.10 and said, "Full of all deceit and all cunning, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?10 said, O full of all deceit and all craft: son of the devil, enemy of all righteousness; wilt thou not cease perverting the right paths of the Lord?

11 "Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and not see the sun for a time." And immediately a mist and a darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking those who would lead him by the hand.11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.11 The Lord is against you now. For a while you will be blind, unable to see the light of day." Suddenly, Elymas couldn't see a thing. He tried to find people to lead him.11 Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is on you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sun for a season!" Immediately a mist and darkness fell on him. 12 Then the proconsul believed when he saw what had happened, being amazed at the teaching of the Lord.12 Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.12 When the governor saw what had happened, he believed. He will do everything I want him to do.'22 When he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, to whom he also testified, 'I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who will do all my will.'22 And having removed him he raised up to them David for king, of whom also bearing witness he said, I have found David, the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who shall do all my will.
23 "From the descendants of this man, according to promise, God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus,23 Of this man's seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:23 "God had the Savior, Jesus, come to Israel from David's descendants, as he had promised.23 From this man's seed, God has brought salvation to Israel according to his promise,23 Of this man's seed according to promise has God brought to Israel a Saviour, Jesus;

But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.25 When John was finishing his work, he said, 'Who do you think I am? I'm not the person you're looking for. He will come later. I'm not even good enough to untie his sandals.'25 As John was fulfilling his course, he said, 'What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. But behold, one comes after me the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.'25 And as John was fulfilling his course he said, Whom do ye suppose that I am? I am not he. But behold, there comes one after me, the sandal of whose feet I am not worthy to loose.

26 "Brethren, sons of Abraham's family, and those among you who fear God, to us the message of this salvation has been sent.26 Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.26 "Brothers-descendants of Abraham and converts to Judaism-the message that God saves people was sent to us.26 Brothers, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, the word of this salvation is sent out to you.26 Brethren, sons of Abraham's race, and those who among you fear God, to you has the word of this salvation been sent:
27 "For those who live in Jerusalem, and their rulers, recognizing neither Him nor the utterances of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled these by condemning Him.27 For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.27 The people who live in Jerusalem and their rulers didn't know who Jesus was. They didn't understand the prophets' messages, which are read every day of worship. So they condemned Jesus and fulfilled what the prophets had said.27 For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they didn't know him, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him.27 for those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, not having known him, have fulfilled also the voices of the prophets which are read on every sabbath, by judging him.

This is what Scripture says in the second psalm: 'You are my Son. Today I have become your Father.'33 that God has fulfilled the same to us, their children, in that he raised up Jesus. As it is also written in the second psalm, 'You are my Son. 34 "As for the fact that He raised Him up from the dead, no longer to return to decay, He has spoken in this way: 'I WILL GIVE YOU THE HOLY and SURE blessings OF DAVID.'34 And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.34 "God stated that he brought Jesus back to life and that Jesus' body never decayed. He said, 'I will give you the enduring love promised to David.'34 "Concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he has spoken thus: 'I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David.'34 But that he raised him from among the dead, no more to return to corruption, he spoke thus: I will give to you the faithful mercies of David.
35 "Therefore He also says in another Psalm, 'YOU WILL NOT ALLOW YOUR HOLY ONE TO UNDERGO DECAY.'35 Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.35 Another psalm says, 'You will not allow your holy one to decay.'35 Therefore he says also in another psalm, 'You will not allow your Holy One to see decay.'35 Wherefore also he says in another, Thou wilt not suffer thy gracious one to see corruption.

36 "For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep, and was laid among his fathers and underwent decay;36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:36 After doing God's will by serving the people of his time, David died. Sins kept you from receiving God's approval through Moses' Teachings.38 Be it known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man is proclaimed to you remission of sins,38 Be it known unto you, therefore, brethren, that through this man remission of sins is preached to you,
39 and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through the Law of Moses.39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.39 However, everyone who believes in Jesus receives God's approval.39 and by him everyone who believes is justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.39 and from all things from which ye could not be justified in the law of Moses, in him every one that believes is justified.

41 'BEHOLD, YOU SCOFFERS, AND MARVEL, AND PERISH; FOR I AM ACCOMPLISHING A WORK IN YOUR DAYS, A WORK WHICH YOU WILL NEVER BELIEVE, THOUGH SOMEONE SHOULD DESCRIBE IT TO YOU.'"41 Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.41 'Look, you mockers! Be amazed and die! I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe even if it were reported to you!'"41 'Behold, you scoffers, and wonder, and perish; for I work a work in your days, a work which you will in no way believe, if one declares it to you.'"41 Behold, ye despisers, and wonder and perish; for I work a work in your days, a work which ye will in no wise believe if one declare it to you.
42 As Paul and Barnabas were going out, the people kept begging that these things might be spoken to them the next Sabbath.42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.42 As Paul and Barnabas were leaving the synagogue, the people invited them to speak on the same subject the next day of worship.42 So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath.42 And as they went out they begged that these words might be spoken to them the ensuing sabbath.
43 Now when the meeting of the synagogue had broken up, many of the Jews and of the God-fearing proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, were urging them to continue in the grace of God.43 Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.43 When the meeting of the synagogue broke up, many Jews and converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas. Paul and Barnabas talked with them and were persuading them to continue trusting God's good will. 43 Now when the synagogue broke up, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas; who, speaking to them, urged them to continue in the grace of God.43 And the congregation of the synagogue having broken up, many of the Jews and of the worshipping proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.
Paul Turns to the Gentiles
44 The next Sabbath nearly the whole city assembled to hear the word of the Lord.44 And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.44 On the next day of worship, almost the whole city gathered to hear the Lord's word.44 The next Sabbath almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of God.44 And on the coming sabbath almost all the city was gathered together to hear the word of God.

They used insulting language to contradict whatever Paul said.45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and blasphemed.45 But the Jews, seeing the crowds, were filled with envy, and contradicted the things said by Paul, contradicting and speaking injuriously.

46 Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, "It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first; since you repudiate it and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we are turning to the Gentiles.46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.46 Paul and Barnabas told them boldly, "We had to speak the word of God to you first. Since you reject the word and consider yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, we are now going to turn to people of other nations.46 Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, and said, "It was necessary that God's word should be spoken to you first. 47 "For so the Lord has commanded us, 'I HAVE PLACED YOU AS A LIGHT FOR THE GENTILES, THAT YOU MAY BRING SALVATION TO THE END OF THE EARTH.'"47 For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.47 The Lord gave us the following order: 'I have made you a light for the nations so that you would save people all over the world.'"47 For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, 'I have set you as a light for the Gentiles, that you should bring salvation to the uttermost parts of the earth.'"47 for thus has the Lord enjoined us: I have set thee for a light of the nations, that thou shouldest be for salvation to the end of the earth.
48 When the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord; and as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed.48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.48 The people who were not Jews were pleased with what they heard and praised the Lord's word. Everyone who had been prepared for everlasting life believed.48 As the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of God.
