Saul Persecutes the Church

1 Saul was in hearty agreement with putting him to death. And on that day a great persecution began against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.1 And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.1 Saul approved of putting Stephen to death. On that day widespread persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem. Most believers, except the apostles, were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria.1 Saul was consenting to his death. A great persecution arose against the assembly which was in Jerusalem in that day. They were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except for the apostles.1 And Saul was consenting to his being killed. And on that day there arose a great persecution against the assembly which was in Jerusalem, and all were scattered into the countries of Judaea and Samaria except the apostles.
2 Some devout men buried Stephen, and made loud lamentation over him.2 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.2 Devout men buried Stephen as they mourned loudly for him.2 Devout men buried Stephen, and lamented greatly over him.2 And pious men buried Stephen and made great lamentation over him.
3 But Saul began ravaging the church, entering house after house, and dragging off men and women, he would put them in prison.3 As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.3 Saul tried to destroy the church. Philip in Samaria
4 Therefore, those who had been scattered went about preaching the word.4 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.4 The believers who were scattered went from place to place, where they spread the word.4 Therefore those who were scattered abroad went around preaching the word.4 Those then that had been scattered went through the countries announcing the glad tidings of the word.

6 The crowds with one accord were giving attention to what was said by Philip, as they heard and saw the signs which he was performing.6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.6 The crowds paid close attention to what Philip said. They listened to him and saw the miracles that he performed.6 The multitudes listened with one accord to the things that were spoken by Philip, when they heard and saw the signs which he did.6 and the crowds with one accord gave heed to the things spoken by Philip, when they heard him and saw the signs which he wrought.
7 For in the case of many who had unclean spirits, they were coming out of them shouting with a loud voice; and many who had been paralyzed and lame were healed.7 For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.7 Evil spirits screamed as they came out of the many people they had possessed. Many paralyzed and lame people were cured.7 For unclean spirits came out of many of those who had them. They came out, crying with a loud voice. Many who had been paralyzed and lame were healed.7 For from many who had unclean spirits they went out, crying with a loud voice; and many that were paralysed and lame were healed.
8 So there was much rejoicing in that city.8 And there was great joy in that city.8 As a result, that city was extremely happy.8 There was great joy in that city.8 And there was great joy in that city.
9 Now there was a man named Simon, who formerly was practicing magic in the city and astonishing the people of Samaria, claiming to be someone great;9 But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:9 A man named Simon lived in that city. He amazed the people of Samaria with his practice of magic. He claimed that he was great.9 But there was a certain man, Simon by name, who used to practice sorcery in the city, and amazed the people of Samaria, making himself out to be some great one,9 But a certain man, by name Simon, had been before in the city, using magic arts, and astonishing the nation of Samaria, saying that himself was some great one.
10 and they all, from smallest to greatest, were giving attention to him, saying, "This man is what is called the Great Power of God."10 To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.10 Everyone from children to adults paid attention to him. They said, "This man is the power of God, and that power is called great."10 to whom they all listened, from the least to the greatest, saying, "This man is that great power of God."10 To whom they had all given heed, from small to great, saying, This is the power of God which is called great.

11 And they were giving him attention because he had for a long time astonished them with his magic arts.11 And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.11 They paid attention to Simon because he had amazed them for a long time with his practice of magic.11 They listened to him, because for a long time he had amazed them with his sorceries.11 And they gave heed to him, because that for a long time he had astonished them by his magic arts.
12 But when they believed Philip preaching the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were being baptized, men and women alike.12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.12 However, when Philip spread the Good News about the kingdom of God and the one named Jesus Christ, men and women believed him and were baptized.12 But when they believed Philip preaching good news concerning the Kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.12 But when they believed Philip announcing the glad tidings concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptised, both men and women.
13 Even Simon himself believed; and after being baptized, he continued on with Philip, and as he observed signs and great miracles taking place, he was constantly amazed.13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.13 Even Simon believed, and after he was baptized, he became devoted to Philip. Simon was amazed to see the miracles and impressive things that were happening.13 Simon himself also believed. Being baptized, he continued with Philip. Seeing signs and great miracles occurring, he was amazed.13 And Simon also himself believed; and, having been baptised, continued constantly with Philip; and, beholding the signs and great works of power which took place, was astonished.

19 saying, "Give this authority to me as well, so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit."19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.19 and said, "Give me this power so that anyone I place my hands on will receive the Holy Spirit."19 saying, "Give me also this power, that whoever I lay my hands on may receive the Holy Spirit."19 saying, Give to me also this power, in order that on whomsoever I may lay hands he may receive the Holy Spirit.
20 But Peter said to him, "May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.20 Peter told Simon, "May your money be destroyed with you because you thought you could buy God's gift.20 But Peter said to him, "May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!20 And Peter said to him, Thy money go with thee to destruction, because thou hast thought that the gift of God can be obtained by money.

21 "You have no part or portion in this matter, for your heart is not right before God.21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.21 You won't have any share in this because God can see how twisted your thinking is.21 You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart isn't right before God.21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter, for thy heart is not upright before God.
22 "Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray the Lord that, if possible, the intention of your heart may be forgiven you.22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.22 So change your wicked thoughts, and ask the Lord if he will forgive you for thinking like this.22 Repent therefore of this, your wickedness, and ask God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and supplicate the Lord, if indeed the thought of thy heart may be forgiven thee;
23 "For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bondage of iniquity."23 For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.23 I can see that you are bitter with jealousy and wrapped up in your evil ways."23 For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bondage of iniquity."23 for I see thee to be in the gall of bitterness, and bond of unrighteousness.
24 But Simon answered and said, "Pray to the Lord for me yourselves, so that nothing of what you have said may come upon me."24 Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the LORD for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.24 Simon answered, "Pray to the Lord for me that none of the things you said will happen to me."24 Simon answered, "Pray for me to the Lord, that none of the things which you have spoken happen to me."24 And Simon answering said, Supplicate ye for me to the Lord, so that nothing may come upon me of the things of which ye have spoken.
An Ethiopian Receives Christ
25 So, when they had solemnly testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they started back to Jerusalem, and were preaching the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.25 And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.25 After they had boldly spoken about the message of the Lord, they spread the Good News in many Samaritan villages on their way back to Jerusalem.25 They therefore, when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the Good News to many villages of the Samaritans.25 They therefore, having testified and spoken the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and announced the glad tidings to many villages of the Samaritans.

26 But an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip saying, "Get up and go south to the road that descends from Jerusalem to Gaza." (This is a desert road.)26 And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.26 An angel from the Lord said to Philip, "Get up, and take the desert road that goes south from Jerusalem to Gaza."26 But an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, "Arise, and go toward the south to the way that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza. This is a desert."26 But the angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, Rise up and go southward on the way which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza: the same is desert.
27 So he got up and went; and there was an Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure; and he had come to Jerusalem to worship,27 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,27 So Philip went. An Ethiopian man who had come to Jerusalem to worship was on his way home. The man was a eunuch, a high-ranking official in charge of all the treasures of Queen Candace of Ethiopia.27 He arose and went; and behold, there was a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure, who had come to Jerusalem to worship.27 And he rose up and went. And lo, an Ethiopian, a eunuch, a man in power under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure, who had come to worship at Jerusalem,
28 and he was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah.28 Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.28 As the official rode along in his carriage, he was reading the prophet Isaiah out loud.28 He was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah.28 was returning and sitting in his chariot: and he was reading the prophet Esaias.
29 Then the Spirit said to Philip, "Go up and join this chariot."29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.29 The Spirit said to Philip, "Go to that carriage, and stay close to it."29 The Spirit said to Philip, "Go near, and join yourself to this chariot."29 And the Spirit said to Philip, Approach and join this chariot.
30 Philip ran up and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, "Do you understand what you are reading?"30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?30 Philip ran to the carriage and could hear the official reading the prophet Isaiah out loud. Philip asked him, "Do you understand what you're reading?"30 Philip ran to him, and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, "Do you understand what you are reading?"30 And Philip, running up, heard him reading the prophet Esaias, and said, Dost thou then know what thou art reading of?

31 And he said, "Well, how could I, unless someone guides me?" And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.31 The official answered, "How can I understand unless someone guides me?" So he invited Philip to sit with him in his carriage.31 He said, "How can I, unless someone explains it to me?" He begged Philip to come up and sit with him.31 And he said, How should I then be able unless some one guide me? And he begged Philip to come up and sit with him.
32 Now the passage of Scripture which he was reading was this: "HE WAS LED AS A SHEEP TO SLAUGHTER; AND AS A LAMB BEFORE ITS SHEARER IS SILENT, SO HE DOES NOT OPEN HIS MOUTH.32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:32 This was the part of the Scriptures that the official was reading: "He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. He was like a sheep that is silent when its wool is cut off. He didn't open his mouth.32 Now the passage of the Scripture which he was reading was this, "He was led as a sheep to the slaughter. As a lamb before his shearer is silent, so he doesn't open his mouth.32 And the passage of the scripture which he read was this: He was led as a sheep to slaughter, and as a lamb is dumb in presence of him that shears him, thus he opens not his mouth.
33 "IN HUMILIATION HIS JUDGMENT WAS TAKEN AWAY; WHO WILL RELATE HIS GENERATION? FOR HIS LIFE IS REMOVED FROM THE EARTH."33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.33 When he humbled himself, he was not judged fairly. Who from his generation will talk about his life on earth being cut short?"33 In his humiliation, his judgment was taken away. Who will declare His generation? For his life is taken from the earth."33 In his humiliation his judgment has been taken away, and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.
34 The eunuch answered Philip and said, "Please tell me, of whom does the prophet say this? Of himself or of someone else?"34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?34 The official said to Philip, "I would like to know who the prophet is talking about. Is he talking about himself or someone else?"34 The eunuch answered Philip, "Who is the prophet talking about? About himself, or about someone else?"34 And the eunuch answering Philip said, I pray thee, concerning whom does the prophet say this? of himself or of some other?
35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture he preached Jesus to him.35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.35 Then Philip spoke. Starting with that passage, Philip told the official the Good News about Jesus.35 Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture, preached to him Jesus.35 And Philip, opening his mouth and beginning from that scripture, announced the glad tidings of Jesus to him.

36 As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said, "Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?"36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?36 As they were going along the road, they came to some water. The official said to Philip, "Look, there's some water. What can keep me from being baptized?" 36 As they went on the way, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, "Behold, here is water. What is keeping me from being baptized?"36 And as they went along the way, they came upon a certain water, and the eunuch says, Behold water; what hinders my being baptised?
37 And Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.37 37 37 
38 And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him.38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.38 The official ordered the carriage to stop. He and Philip stepped into the water, and Philip baptized him.38 He commanded the chariot to stand still, and they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him.38 And he commanded the chariot to stop. And they went down both to the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptised him.
39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; and the eunuch no longer saw him, but went on his way rejoicing.39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.39 When they had stepped out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away. The official joyfully continued on his way and didn't see Philip again.39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, and the eunuch didn't see him any more, for he went on his way rejoicing.39 But when they came up out of the water the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, and the eunuch saw him no longer, for he went on his way rejoicing.
40 But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he kept preaching the gospel to all the cities until he came to Caesarea.40 But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea.40 Philip found himself in the city of Azotus. He traveled through all the cities and spread the Good News until he came to the city of Caesarea.40 But Philip was found at Azotus. Passing through, he preached the Good News to all the cities, until he came to Caesarea.40 And Philip was found at Azotus, and passing through he announced the glad tidings to all the cities till he came to Caesarea.
