Faith Brings Righteousness
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 You foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified?1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?1 You stupid people of Galatia! Who put you under an evil spell? Wasn't Christ Jesus' crucifixion clearly described to you?1 Foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you not to obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was openly set forth among you as crucified?1 O senseless Galatians, who has bewitched you; to whom, as before your very eyes, Jesus Christ has been portrayed, crucified among you?
2 This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?2 I want to learn only one thing from you. Did you receive the Spirit by your own efforts to live according to a set of standards or by believing what you heard?2 I just want to learn this from you. Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by hearing of faith?2 This only I wish to learn of you, Have ye received the Spirit on the principle of works of law, or of the report of faith?
3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?3 Are you that stupid? Did you begin in a spiritual way only to end up doing things in a human way?3 Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now completed in the flesh?3 Are ye so senseless? having begun in Spirit, are ye going to be made perfect in flesh?
4 Did you suffer so many things in vain-- if indeed it was in vain?4 Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.4 Did you suffer so much for nothing? [I doubt] that it was for nothing!4 Did you suffer so many things in vain, if it is indeed in vain?4 Have ye suffered so many things in vain, if indeed also in vain?
5 So then, does He who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?5 He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?5 Does God supply you with the Spirit and work miracles among you through your own efforts or through believing what you heard?5 He therefore who supplies the Spirit to you, and works miracles among you, does he do it by the works of the law, or by hearing of faith?5 He therefore who ministers to you the Spirit, and works miracles among you, is it on the principle of works of law, or of the report of faith?
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 Even so Abraham BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.6 Abraham serves as an example. He believed God, and that faith was regarded by God to be his approval of Abraham.6 Even as Abraham "believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness."6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness.
7 Therefore, be sure that it is those who are of faith who are sons of Abraham.7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.7 You must understand that people who have faith are Abraham's descendants.7 Know therefore that those who are of faith, the same are children of Abraham.7 Know then that they that are on the principle of faith, these are Abraham's sons;
8 The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, "ALL THE NATIONS WILL BE BLESSED IN YOU."8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.8 Scripture saw ahead of time that God would give his approval to non-Jewish people who have faith. So Scripture announced the Good News to Abraham ahead of time when it said, "Through you all the people of the world will be blessed."8 The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the Good News beforehand to Abraham, saying, "In you all the nations will be blessed."8 and the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the nations on the principle of faith, announced beforehand the glad tidings to Abraham: In thee all the nations shall be blessed.
9 So then those who are of faith are blessed with Abraham, the believer.9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.9 So people who believe are blessed together with Abraham, the man of faith.9 So then, those who are of faith are blessed with the faithful Abraham.9 So that they who are on the principle of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.
10 For as many as are of the works of the Law are under a curse; for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO DOES NOT ABIDE BY ALL THINGS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THE LAW, TO PERFORM THEM."10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.10 Certainly, there is a curse on all who rely on their own efforts to live according to a set of standards because Scripture says, "Whoever doesn't obey everything that is written in Moses' Teachings is cursed."10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse. For it is written, "Cursed is everyone who doesn't continue in all things that are written in the book of the law, to do them."10 For as many as are on the principle of works of law are under curse. For it is written, Cursed is every one who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 Now that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident; for, "THE RIGHTEOUS MAN SHALL LIVE BY FAITH."11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.11 No one receives God's approval by obeying the law's standards since, "The person who has God's approval will live by faith."11 Now that no man is justified by the law before God is evident, for, "The righteous will live by faith."11 but that by law no one is justified with God is evident, because The just shall live on the principle of faith;
12 However, the Law is not of faith; on the contrary, "HE WHO PRACTICES THEM SHALL LIVE BY THEM."12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.12 Laws have nothing to do with faith, but, "Whoever obeys laws will live because of the laws he obeys."12 The law is not of faith, but, "The man who does them will live by them."12 but the law is not on the principle of faith; but, He that shall have done these things shall live by them.
13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us-- for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE "--13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:13 Christ paid the price to free us from the curse that God's laws bring by becoming cursed instead of us. Scripture says, "Everyone who is hung on a tree is cursed."13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us. For it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree,"13 Christ has redeemed us out of the curse of the law, having become a curse for us, (for it is written, Cursed is every one hanged upon a tree,)
14 in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.14 [Christ paid the price] so that the blessing promised to Abraham would come to all the people of the world through Jesus Christ and we would receive the promised Spirit through faith.14 that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Christ Jesus; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.14 that the blessing of Abraham might come to the nations in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Intent of the Law
15 Brethren, I speak in terms of human relations: even though it is only a man's covenant, yet when it has been ratified, no one sets it aside or adds conditions to it.15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.15 Brothers and sisters, let me use an example from everyday life. No one can cancel a person's will or add conditions to it once that will is put into effect.15 Brothers, speaking of human terms, though it is only a man's covenant, yet when it has been confirmed, no one makes it void, or adds to it.15 Brethren, (I speak according to man,) even man's confirmed covenant no one sets aside, or adds other dispositions to.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, "And to seeds," as referring to many, but rather to one, "And to your seed," that is, Christ.16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.16 The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his descendant. Scripture doesn't say, "descendants," referring to many, but "your descendant," referring to one. That descendant is Christ.16 Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He doesn't say, "To seeds," as of many, but as of one, "To your seed," which is Christ.16 But to Abraham were the promises addressed, and to his seed: he does not say, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed; which is Christ.
17 What I am saying is this: the Law, which came four hundred and thirty years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise.17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.17 This is what I mean: The laws [given to Moses] 430 years after God had already put his promise [to Abraham] into effect didn't cancel the promise [to Abraham].17 Now I say this. A covenant confirmed beforehand by God in Christ, the law, which came four hundred thirty years after, does not annul, so as to make the promise of no effect.17 Now I say this, A covenant confirmed beforehand by God, the law, which took place four hundred and thirty years after, does not annul, so as to make the promise of no effect.
18 For if the inheritance is based on law, it is no longer based on a promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by means of a promise.18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.18 If we have to gain the inheritance by following those laws, then it no longer comes to us because of the promise. However, God freely gave the inheritance to Abraham through a promise.18 For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no more of promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by promise.18 For if the inheritance be on the principle of law, it is no longer on the principle of promise; but God gave it in grace to Abraham by promise.
19 Why the Law then? It was added because of transgressions, having been ordained through angels by the agency of a mediator, until the seed would come to whom the promise had been made.19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.19 What, then, is the purpose of the laws given to Moses? They were added to identify what wrongdoing is. Moses' laws did this until the descendant to whom the promise was given came.?to Abraham[ came."> It was put into effect through angels, using a mediator.]19 What then is the law? It was added because of transgressions, until the seed should come to whom the promise has been made. It was ordained through angels by the hand of a mediator.19 Why then the law? It was added for the sake of transgressions, until the seed came to whom the promise was made, ordained through angels in the hand of a mediator.
20 Now a mediator is not for one party only; whereas God is only one.20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.20 A mediator is not used when there is only one person involved, and God has acted on his own.20 Now a mediator is not between one, but God is one.20 But a mediator is not of one, but God is one.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
21 Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? May it never be! For if a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law.21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.21 Does this mean, then, that the laws given to Moses contradict God's promises? That's unthinkable! If those laws could give us life, then certainly we would receive God's approval because we obeyed them.21 Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could make alive, most certainly righteousness would have been of the law.21 Is then the law against the promises of God? Far be the thought. For if a law had been given able to quicken, then indeed righteousness were on the principle of law;
22 But the Scripture has shut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.22 But Scripture states that the whole world is controlled by the power of sin. Therefore, a promise based on faith in Jesus Christ could be given to those who believe.22 But the Scriptures imprisoned all things under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.22 but the scripture has shut up all things under sin, that the promise, on the principle of faith of Jesus Christ, should be given to those that believe.
23 But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed.23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.23 We were kept under control by Moses' laws until this faith came. We were under their control until this faith which was about to come would be revealed.23 But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, confined for the faith which should afterwards be revealed.23 But before faith came, we were guarded under law, shut up to faith which was about to be revealed.
24 Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith.24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.24 Before Christ came, Moses' laws served as our guardian. Christ came so that we could receive God's approval by faith.24 So that the law has become our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.24 So that the law has been our tutor up to Christ, that we might be justified on the principle of faith.
25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.25 But now that this faith has come, we are no longer under the control of a guardian.25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.25 But, faith having come, we are no longer under a tutor;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.26 You are all God's children by believing in Christ Jesus.26 For you are all children of God, through faith in Christ Jesus.26 for ye are all God's sons by faith in Christ Jesus.
27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.27 Clearly, all of you who were baptized in Christ's name have clothed yourselves with Christ.27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.27 For ye, as many as have been baptised unto Christ, have put on Christ.
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.28 There are neither Jews nor Greeks, slaves nor free people, males nor females. You are all the same in Christ Jesus.28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.28 There is no Jew nor Greek; there is no bondman nor freeman; there is no male and female; for ye are all one in Christ Jesus:
29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants, heirs according to promise.29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants and heirs, as God promised.29 If you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed and heirs according to promise.29 but if ye are of Christ, then ye are Abraham's seed, heirs according to promise.
