Jacob Leaves Secretly for Canaan
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
Now Jacob heard the words of Laban's sons, saying, "Jacob has taken away all that was our father's, and from what belonged to our father he has made all this wealth."1 And he heard the words of Laban's sons, saying, Jacob hath taken away all that was our father's; and of that which was our father's hath he gotten all this glory.1 Jacob heard that Laban's sons were saying, "Jacob has taken everything that belonged to our father and has gained all his wealth from him."1 He heard the words of Laban's sons, saying, "Jacob has taken away all that was our father's. From that which was our father's, has he gotten all this wealth."1 And he heard the words of Laban's sons, saying, Jacob has taken away all that was our father's, and of what was our father's he has acquired all this glory.
Jacob saw the attitude of Laban, and behold, it was not friendly toward him as formerly.2 And Jacob beheld the countenance of Laban, and, behold, it was not toward him as before.2 He also noticed that Laban did not appear as friendly to him as before.2 Jacob saw the expression on Laban's face, and, behold, it was not toward him as before.2 And Jacob saw the countenance of Laban, and behold, it was not toward him as previously.
Then the LORD said to Jacob, "Return to the land of your fathers and to your relatives, and I will be with you."3 And the LORD said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.3 Then the LORD said to Jacob, "Go back to the land of your ancestors and to your relatives, and I will be with you."3 Yahweh said to Jacob, "Return to the land of your fathers, and to your relatives, and I will be with you."3 And Jehovah said to Jacob, Return into the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.
So Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to his flock in the field,4 And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his flock,4 So Jacob sent a message to Rachel and Leah to come out to the open country where his flocks were.4 Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field to his flock,4 And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the fields to his flock,
and said to them, "I see your father's attitude, that it is not friendly toward me as formerly, but the God of my father has been with me.5 And said unto them, I see your father's countenance, that it is not toward me as before; but the God of my father hath been with me.5 He said to them, "I have seen that your father isn't as friendly to me as he was before, but the God of my father has been with me.5 and said to them, "I see the expression on your father's face, that it is not toward me as before; but the God of my father has been with me.5 and said to them, I see your father's countenance, that it is not toward me as previously; but the God of my father has been with me.

"You know that I have served your father with all my strength.6 And ye know that with all my power I have served your father.6 You know that I have worked as hard as I could for your father.6 You know that I have served your father with all of my strength.6 And you know that with all my power I have served your father.
"Yet your father has cheated me and changed my wages ten times; however, God did not allow him to hurt me.7 And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me.7 Your father has cheated me. He has changed my wages ten times. But God hasn't let him harm me.7 Your father has deceived me, and changed my wages ten times, but God didn't allow him to hurt me.7 And your father has mocked me, and has changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me.
"If he spoke thus, 'The speckled shall be your wages,' then all the flock brought forth speckled; and if he spoke thus, 'The striped shall be your wages,' then all the flock brought forth striped.8 If he said thus, The speckled shall be thy wages; then all the cattle bare speckled: and if he said thus, The ring-streaked shall be thy hire; then bare all the cattle ring-streaked.8 Whenever he said, 'The speckled ones will be your wages,' all the flocks gave birth to speckled young. And whenever he said, 'The striped ones will be your wages,' all the flocks gave birth to striped young.8 If he said this, 'The speckled will be your wages,' then all the flock bore speckled. If he said this, 'The streaked will be your wages,' then all the flock bore streaked.8 If he said thus; The speckled shall be thy hire, then all the flocks bore speckled; and if he said thus: The ringstraked shall be thy hire, then all the flocks bore ringstraked.
"Thus God has taken away your father's livestock and given them to me.9 Thus God hath taken away the cattle of your father, and given them to me.9 So God has taken away your father's livestock and has given them to me.9 Thus God has taken away your father's livestock, and given them to me.9 And God has taken away the cattle of your father, and given them to me.
"And it came about at the time when the flock were mating that I lifted up my eyes and saw in a dream, and behold, the male goats which were mating were striped, speckled, and mottled.10 And it came to pass at the time that the cattle conceived, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the cattle were ring-streaked, speckled, and grizzled.10 "During the mating season I had a dream: I looked up and saw that the male goats which were mating were striped, speckled, or spotted.10 It happened during mating season that I lifted up my eyes, and saw in a dream, and behold, the male goats which leaped on the flock were streaked, speckled, and grizzled.10 And it came to pass at the time of the ardour of the flocks, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream, and behold, the rams that leaped upon the flocks were ringstraked, speckled, and spotted.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
"Then the angel of God said to me in the dream, 'Jacob,' and I said, 'Here I am.'11 And the angel of God spake unto me in a dream, saying, Jacob: And I said, Here am I.11 In the dream the Messenger of God called to me, 'Jacob!' And I answered, 'Yes, here I am.'11 The angel of God said to me in the dream, 'Jacob,' and I said, 'Here I am.'11 And the Angel of God said to me in a dream, Jacob! And I said, Here am I.
"He said, 'Lift up now your eyes and see that all the male goats which are mating are striped, speckled, and mottled; for I have seen all that Laban has been doing to you.12 And he said, Lift up now thine eyes, and see, all the rams which leap upon the cattle are ring-streaked, speckled, and grizzled: for I have seen all that Laban doeth unto thee.12 He said, 'Look up and see that all the male goats which are mating are striped, speckled, or spotted, because I have seen everything that Laban is doing to you.12 He said, 'Now lift up your eyes, and behold, all the male goats which leap on the flock are streaked, speckled, and grizzled, for I have seen all that Laban does to you.12 And he said, Lift up now thine eyes, and see: all the rams that leap upon the flock are ringstraked, speckled, and spotted; for I have seen all that Laban does to thee.
I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar, where you made a vow to Me; now arise, leave this land, and return to the land of your birth.'"13 I am the God of Bethel, where thou anointedst the pillar, and where thou vowedst a vow unto me: now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred.13 I am the God who appeared to you at Bethel, where you poured olive oil on a stone marker for a holy purpose and where you made a vow to me. Now leave this land, and go back to the land of your relatives.' " 13 I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar, where you vowed a vow to me. Now arise, get out from this land, and return to the land of your birth.'"13 I am the God of Bethel, where thou anointedst the pillar, where thou vowedst a vow to me. Now arise, depart out of this land, and return to the land of thy kindred.
Rachel and Leah said to him, "Do we still have any portion or inheritance in our father's house?14 And Rachel and Leah answered and said unto him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father's house?14 Rachel and Leah answered him, "Is there anything left in our father's household for us to inherit?14 Rachel and Leah answered him, "Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father's house?14 And Rachel and Leah answered and said to him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father's house?
"Are we not reckoned by him as foreigners? For he has sold us, and has also entirely consumed our purchase price.15 Are we not counted of him strangers? for he hath sold us, and hath quite devoured also our money.15 Doesn't he think of us as foreigners? Not only did he sell us, but he has used up the money that was paid for us.15 Aren't we accounted by him as foreigners? For he has sold us, and has also quite devoured our money.15 Are we not reckoned of him strangers? for he has sold us, and has even constantly devoured our money.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
"Surely all the wealth which God has taken away from our father belongs to us and our children; now then, do whatever God has said to you."16 For all the riches which God hath taken from our father, that is ours, and our children's: now then, whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do.16 Certainly, all the wealth that God took away from our father belongs to us and our children. Now do whatever God has told you."16 For all the riches which God has taken away from our father, that is ours and our children's. Now then, whatever God has said to you, do."16 For all the wealth that God has taken from our father is ours and our children's; and now whatever God has said to thee do.
Then Jacob arose and put his children and his wives upon camels;17 Then Jacob rose up, and set his sons and his wives upon camels;17 Then Jacob put his children and his wives on camels.17 Then Jacob rose up, and set his sons and his wives on the camels,17 And Jacob rose up, and set his sons and his wives upon camels,
and he drove away all his livestock and all his property which he had gathered, his acquired livestock which he had gathered in Paddan-aram, to go to the land of Canaan to his father Isaac.18 And he carried away all his cattle, and all his goods which he had gotten, the cattle of his getting, which he had gotten in Padanaram, for to go to Isaac his father in the land of Canaan.18 He drove all his livestock ahead of him and took all the possessions that he had accumulated. He took his own livestock that he had accumulated in Paddan Aram and went back to his father Isaac in Canaan.18 and he took away all his livestock, and all his possessions which he had gathered, including the livestock which he had gained in Paddan Aram, to go to Isaac his father, to the land of Canaan.18 and carried away all his cattle, and all his property that he had acquired the cattle of his possessions that he had acquired in Padan-Aram, to go to Isaac his father, into the land of Canaan.
When Laban had gone to shear his flock, then Rachel stole the household idols that were her father's.19 And Laban went to shear his sheep: and Rachel had stolen the images that were her father's.19 When Laban went to shear his sheep, Rachel stole her father's idols.19 Now Laban had gone to shear his sheep: and Rachel stole the teraphim that were her father's.19 And Laban had gone to shear his sheep. And Rachel stole the teraphim that belonged to her father.
And Jacob deceived Laban the Aramean by not telling him that he was fleeing.20 And Jacob stole away unawares to Laban the Syrian, in that he told him not that he fled.20 Jacob also tricked Laban the Aramean by not telling him he was leaving.20 Jacob deceived Laban the Syrian, in that he didn't tell him that he was running away.20 And Jacob deceived Laban the Syrian, in that he did not tell him that he fled.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
So he fled with all that he had; and he arose and crossed the Euphrates River, and set his face toward the hill country of Gilead.21 So he fled with all that he had; and he rose up, and passed over the river, and set his face toward the mount Gilead.21 So he left in a hurry with all that belonged to him. He crossed the Euphrates River and went toward the mountains of Gilead.21 So he fled with all that he had. He rose up, passed over the River, and set his face toward the mountain of Gilead.21 And he fled with all that he had; and he rose up and passed over the river, and set his face toward mount Gilead.
Laban Pursues Jacob
When it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob had fled,22 And it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob was fled.22 Two days later Laban was told that Jacob had left in a hurry.22 Laban was told on the third day that Jacob had fled.22 And it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob had fled.
then he took his kinsmen with him and pursued him a distance of seven days' journey, and he overtook him in the hill country of Gilead.23 And he took his brethren with him, and pursued after him seven days' journey; and they overtook him in the mount Gilead.23 He and his relatives pursued Jacob for seven days. Laban caught up with him in the mountains of Gilead.23 He took his relatives with him, and pursued after him seven days' journey. He overtook him in the mountain of Gilead.23 And he took his brethren with him, and pursued after him seven days' journey, and overtook him on mount Gilead.
God came to Laban the Aramean in a dream of the night and said to him, "Be careful that you do not speak to Jacob either good or bad."24 And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said unto him, Take heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.24 God came to Laban the Aramean in a dream at night and said to him, "Be careful not to say anything at all to Jacob."24 God came to Laban, the Syrian, in a dream of the night, and said to him, "Take heed to yourself that you don't speak to Jacob either good or bad."24 And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said to him, Take care thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.
Laban caught up with Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the hill country, and Laban with his kinsmen camped in the hill country of Gilead.25 Then Laban overtook Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mount: and Laban with his brethren pitched in the mount of Gilead.25 When Laban finally caught up with Jacob, Jacob had put up his tents in the mountains. So Laban and his relatives put up their tents in the mountains of Gilead.25 Laban caught up with Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mountain, and Laban with his relatives encamped in the mountain of Gilead.25 And Laban came up with Jacob; and Jacob had pitched his tent on the mountain; Laban also with his brethren pitched on mount Gilead.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
Then Laban said to Jacob, "What have you done by deceiving me and carrying away my daughters like captives of the sword?26 And Laban said to Jacob, What hast thou done, that thou hast stolen away unawares to me, and carried away my daughters, as captives taken with the sword?26 Then Laban asked Jacob, "What have you done by tricking me? You've carried off my daughters like prisoners of war.26 Laban said to Jacob, "What have you done, that you have deceived me, and carried away my daughters like captives of the sword?26 And Laban said to Jacob, What hast thou done, that thou hast deceived me, and hast carried away my daughters as captives of war?
 "Why did you flee secretly and deceive me, and did not tell me so that I might have sent you away with joy and with songs, with timbrel and with lyre;27 Wherefore didst thou flee away secretly, and steal away from me; and didst not tell me, that I might have sent thee away with mirth, and with songs, with tabret, and with harp?27 Why did you leave secretly and trick me? You didn't even tell me you were leaving. I would have sent you on your way rejoicing, with songs accompanied by tambourines and lyres.27 Why did you flee secretly, and deceive me, and didn't tell me, that I might have sent you away with mirth and with songs, with tambourine and with harp;27 Why didst thou flee away covertly, and steal away from me, and didst not tell me, that I might have conducted thee with mirth and with songs, with tambour and with harp;
and did not allow me to kiss my sons and my daughters? Now you have done foolishly.28 And hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? thou hast now done foolishly in so doing.28 You didn't even let me kiss my grandchildren and my daughters. You've done a foolish thing.28 and didn't allow me to kiss my sons and my daughters? Now have you done foolishly.28 and hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? Now thou hast acted foolishly.
"It is in my power to do you harm, but the God of your father spoke to me last night, saying, 'Be careful not to speak either good or bad to Jacob.'29 It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt: but the God of your father spake unto me yesternight, saying, Take thou heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.29 I have the power to harm you. Last night the God of your father said to me, 'Be careful not to say anything at all to Jacob.'29 It is in the power of my hand to hurt you, but the God of your father spoke to me last night, saying, 'Take heed to yourself that you don't speak to Jacob either good or bad.'29 It would be in the power of my hand to do you hurt; but the God of your father spoke to me last night, saying, Take care that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.
"Now you have indeed gone away because you longed greatly for your father's house; but why did you steal my gods?"30 And now, though thou wouldest needs be gone, because thou sore longedst after thy father's house, yet wherefore hast thou stolen my gods?30 Now you have left for your father's home because you were so homesick. But why did you steal my gods?"30 Now, you want to be gone, because you greatly longed for your father's house, but why have you stolen my gods?"30 And now that thou must needs be gone, because thou greatly longedst after thy father's house, why hast thou stolen my gods?
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
Then Jacob replied to Laban, "Because I was afraid, for I thought that you would take your daughters from me by force.31 And Jacob answered and said to Laban, Because I was afraid: for I said, Peradventure thou wouldest take by force thy daughters from me.31 Jacob answered Laban, "I left because I was afraid. I thought you would take your daughters away from me by force.31 Jacob answered Laban, "Because I was afraid, for I said, 'Lest you should take your daughters from me by force.'31 And Jacob answered and said to Laban, I was afraid; for I said, Lest thou shouldest take by force thy daughters from me.
"The one with whom you find your gods shall not live; in the presence of our kinsmen point out what is yours among my belongings and take it for yourself." For Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen them.32 With whomsoever thou findest thy gods, let him not live: before our brethren discern thou what is thine with me, and take it to thee. For Jacob knew not that Rachel had stolen them.32 If you find your gods, the one who has them will not be allowed to live. In the presence of our relatives, search as much as you want through what I have, and take what is yours." (Jacob didn't know that Rachel had stolen the gods.)32 Anyone you find your gods with shall not live. Before our relatives, discern what is yours with me, and take it." For Jacob didn't know that Rachel had stolen them.32 With whomsoever thou findest thy gods, he shall not live. Before our brethren discern what is thine with me, and take it to thee. But Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen them.
So Laban went into Jacob's tent and into Leah's tent and into the tent of the two maids, but he did not find them. Then he went out of Leah's tent and entered Rachel's tent.33 And Laban went into Jacob's tent, and into Leah's tent, and into the two maidservants' tents; but he found them not. Then went he out of Leah's tent, and entered into Rachel's tent.33 So Laban went into Jacob's tent, into Leah's tent, and into the tent of the two slaves. But he found nothing. He came out of Leah's tent and went into Rachel's tent.33 Laban went into Jacob's tent, into Leah's tent, and into the tent of the two female servants; but he didn't find them. He went out of Leah's tent, and entered into Rachel's tent.33 And Laban went into Jacob's tent, and into Leah's tent, and into the two handmaids' tents, and found nothing; and he went out of Leah's tent, and entered into Rachel's tent.
Now Rachel had taken the household idols and put them in the camel's saddle, and she sat on them. And Laban felt through all the tent but did not find them.34 Now Rachel had taken the images, and put them in the camel's furniture, and sat upon them. And Laban searched all the tent, but found them not.34 Rachel had taken the idols and had put them in her camel's saddle-bag and was sitting on them. Laban rummaged through the whole tent but found nothing.34 Now Rachel had taken the teraphim, put them in the camel's saddle, and sat on them. Laban felt about all the tent, but didn't find them.34 Now Rachel had taken the teraphim and put them under the camel's saddle; and she sat upon them. And Laban explored all the tent, but found nothing.
She said to her father, "Let not my lord be angry that I cannot rise before you, for the manner of women is upon me." So he searched but did not find the household idols.35 And she said to her father, Let it not displease my lord that I cannot rise up before thee; for the custom of women is upon me. And he searched but found not the images.35 Rachel said to her father, "Don't be angry, Father, but I can't get up to greet you; I'm having my period." So even though Laban had made a thorough search, he didn't find the idols.35 She said to her father, "Don't let my lord be angry that I can't rise up before you; for I'm having my period." He searched, but didn't find the teraphim.35 And she said to her father, Let it not be an occasion of anger in the eyes of my lord that I cannot rise up before thee, for it is with me after the manner of women. And he searched carefully, but did not find the teraphim.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
Then Jacob became angry and contended with Laban; and Jacob said to Laban, "What is my transgression? What is my sin that you have hotly pursued me?36 And Jacob was wroth, and chode with Laban: and Jacob answered and said to Laban, What is my trespass? what is my sin, that thou hast so hotly pursued after me?36 Then Jacob became angry and confronted Laban. "What is my crime?" Jacob demanded of Laban. "What is my offense that you have come chasing after me?36 Jacob was angry, and argued with Laban. Jacob answered Laban, "What is my trespass? What is my sin, that you have hotly pursued after me?36 And Jacob was angry, and he disputed with Laban. And Jacob answered and said to Laban, What is my fault, what my sin, that thou hast so hotly pursued after me?
"Though you have felt through all my goods, what have you found of all your household goods? Set it here before my kinsmen and your kinsmen, that they may decide between us two.37 Whereas thou hast searched all my stuff, what hast thou found of all thy household stuff? set it here before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may judge betwixt us both.37 Now that you've rummaged through all my things, did you find anything from your house? Put it here in front of all our relatives. Let them decide which one of us is right.37 Now that you have felt around in all my stuff, what have you found of all your household stuff? Set it here before my relatives and your relatives, that they may judge between us two.37 Whereas thou hast explored all my baggage, what hast thou found of all thy household stuff? Set it here before my brethren and thy brethren, and let them decide between us both.
"These twenty years I have been with you; your ewes and your female goats have not miscarried, nor have I eaten the rams of your flocks.38 This twenty years have I been with thee; thy ewes and thy she goats have not cast their young, and the rams of thy flock have I not eaten.38 "I've been with you for 20 years. Your sheep and goats never miscarried, and I never ate any rams from your flocks.38 "These twenty years I have been with you. Your ewes and your female goats have not cast their young, and I haven't eaten the rams of your flocks.38 These twenty years have I been with thee: thy ewes and thy she-goats have not cast their young, and the rams of thy flock I have not eaten.
"That which was torn of beasts I did not bring to you; I bore the loss of it myself. You required it of my hand whether stolen by day or stolen by night.39 That which was torn of beasts I brought not unto thee; I bare the loss of it; of my hand didst thou require it, whether stolen by day, or stolen by night.39 I never brought you any of the flock that was killed by wild animals. I paid for the loss myself. That's what you demanded of me when any of the flock was stolen during the day or at night.39 That which was torn of animals, I didn't bring to you. I bore its loss. Of my hand you required it, whether stolen by day or stolen by night.39 What was torn I have not brought to thee; I had to bear the loss of it: of my hand hast thou required it, whether stolen by day or stolen by night.
"Thus I was: by day the heat consumed me and the frost by night, and my sleep fled from my eyes.40 Thus I was; in the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep departed from mine eyes.40 The scorching heat during the day and the cold at night wore me down, and I lost a lot of sleep.40 This was my situation: in the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep fled from my eyes.40 Thus it was with me: in the day the heat consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep fled from mine eyes.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
"These twenty years I have been in your house; I served you fourteen years for your two daughters and six years for your flock, and you changed my wages ten times.41 Thus have I been twenty years in thy house; I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy cattle: and thou hast changed my wages ten times.41 I've been with your household 20 years now. I worked for you 14 years for your two daughters and 6 years for your flocks, and you changed my wages ten times.41 These twenty years I have been in your house. I served you fourteen years for your two daughters, and six years for your flock, and you have changed my wages ten times.41 I have been these twenty years in thy house: I have served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy flock; and thou hast changed my wages ten times.
"If the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had not been for me, surely now you would have sent me away empty-handed. God has seen my affliction and the toil of my hands, so He rendered judgment last night."42 Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me away now empty. God hath seen mine affliction and the labor of my hands, and rebuked thee yesternight.42 If the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac, had not been with me, you would have sent me away empty-handed by now. God has seen my misery and hard work, and last night he made it right." 42 Unless the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely now you would have sent me away empty. God has seen my affliction and the labor of my hands, and rebuked you last night."42 Had not the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, been with me, it is certain thou wouldest have sent me away now empty. God has looked upon my affliction and the labour of my hands, and has judged last night.
The Covenant of Mizpah
Then Laban replied to Jacob, "The daughters are my daughters, and the children are my children, and the flocks are my flocks, and all that you see is mine. But what can I do this day to these my daughters or to their children whom they have borne?43 And Laban answered and said unto Jacob, These daughters are my daughters, and these children are my children, and these cattle are my cattle, and all that thou seest is mine: and what can I do this day unto these my daughters, or unto their children which they have born?43 Then Laban answered Jacob, "These are my daughters, my grandchildren, and my flocks. Everything you see is mine! Yet, what can I do today for my daughters or for their children?43 Laban answered Jacob, "The daughters are my daughters, the children are my children, the flocks are my flocks, and all that you see is mine: and what can I do this day to these my daughters, or to their children whom they have borne?43 And Laban answered and said to Jacob, The daughters are my daughters, and the sons are my sons, and the flock is my flock, and all that thou seest is mine; but as for my daughters, what can I do this day to them, or to their sons whom they have brought forth?
"So now come, let us make a covenant, you and I, and let it be a witness between you and me."44 Now therefore come thou, let us make a covenant, I and thou; and let it be for a witness between me and thee.44 Now, let's make an agreement and let it stand as a witness between you and me."44 Now come, let us make a covenant, you and I; and let it be for a witness between me and you."44 And now, come, let us make a covenant, I and thou; and let it be a witness between me and thee.
Then Jacob took a stone and set it up as a pillar.45 And Jacob took a stone, and set it up for a pillar.45 Jacob took a stone and set it up as a marker.45 Jacob took a stone, and set it up for a pillar.45 And Jacob took a stone, and set it up for a pillar.

Jacob said to his kinsmen, "Gather stones." So they took stones and made a heap, and they ate there by the heap.46 And Jacob said unto his brethren, Gather stones; and they took stones, and made an heap: and they did eat there upon the heap.46 Then Jacob said to his relatives, "Gather some stones." They took stones, put them into a pile, and ate there by the pile of stones.46 Jacob said to his relatives, "Gather stones." They took stones, and made a heap. They ate there by the heap.46 And Jacob said to his brethren, Gather stones. And they took stones, and made a heap, and ate there upon the heap.

Laban said, "This heap is a witness between you and me this day." Therefore it was named Galeed,48 And Laban said, This heap is a witness between me and thee this day. Therefore was the name of it called Galeed;48 Laban said, "This pile of stones stands as a witness between you and me today." This is why it was named Galeed48 Laban said, "This heap is witness between me and you this day." Therefore it was named Galeed48 And Laban said, This heap is a witness between me and thee this day. Therefore was the name of it called Galeed,
and Mizpah, for he said, "May the LORD watch between you and me when we are absent one from the other.49 And Mizpah; for he said, The LORD watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another.49 and also Mizpah [Watchtower], because he said, "May the LORD watch between you and me when we're unable to see each other.49 and Mizpah, for he said, "Yahweh watch between me and you, when we are absent one from another.49 and Mizpah; for he said, Let Jehovah watch between me and thee, when we shall be hidden one from another:
"If you mistreat my daughters, or if you take wives besides my daughters, although no man is with us, see, God is witness between you and me."50 If thou shalt afflict my daughters, or if thou shalt take other wives beside my daughters, no man is with us; see, God is witness betwixt me and thee.50 If you mistreat my daughters or marry other women behind my back, remember that God stands as a witness between you and me."50 If you afflict my daughters, or if you take wives besides my daughters, no man is with us; behold, God is witness between me and you."50 if thou shouldest afflict my daughters, or if thou shouldest take wives besides my daughters, no man is with us; see, God is witness between me and thee!
