The Believer’s Rest

1 Therefore, let us fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short of it.1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.1 God's promise that we may enter his place of rest still stands. We are afraid that some of you think you won't enter his place of rest.1 Let us fear therefore, lest perhaps anyone of you should seem to have come short of a promise of entering into his rest.1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left of entering into his rest, any one of you might seem to have failed of it.
2 For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard.2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.2 We have heard the same Good News that your ancestors heard. But the message didn't help those who heard it in the past because they didn't believe.2 For indeed we have had good news preached to us, even as they also did, but the word they heard didn't profit them, because it wasn't mixed with faith by those who heard.2 For indeed we have had glad tidings presented to us, even as they also; but the word of the report did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard.
3 For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said, "AS I SWORE IN MY WRATH, THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST," although His works were finished from the foundation of the world.3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.3 We who believe are entering that place of rest. As God said, "So I angrily took a solemn oath that they would never enter my place of rest." God said this even though he had finished his work when he created the world.3 For we who have believed do enter into that rest, even as he has said, "As I swore in my wrath, they will not enter into my rest;" although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.3 For we enter into the rest who have believed; as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, If they shall enter into my rest; although the works had been completed from the foundation of the world.
4 For He has said somewhere concerning the seventh day: "AND GOD RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HIS WORKS";4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.4 Somewhere in Scripture God has said this about the seventh day: "On the seventh day God rested from all his work."4 For he has said this somewhere about the seventh day, "God rested on the seventh day from all his works;"4 For he has said somewhere of the seventh day thus, And God rested on the seventh day from all his works:
5 and again in this passage, "THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST."5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.5 God also said in the same passage, "They will never enter my place of rest."5 and in this place again, "They will not enter into my rest."5 and in this again, If they shall enter into my rest.

6 Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience,6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:6 However, some people enter that place of rest. Those who heard the Good News in the past did not enter God's place of rest because they did not obey God.6 Seeing therefore it remains that some should enter therein, and they to whom the good news was before preached failed to enter in because of disobedience,6 Seeing therefore it remains that some enter into it, and those who first received the glad tidings did not enter in on account of not hearkening to the word,
7 He again fixes a certain day, "Today," saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS."7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.7 So God set another day. That day is today. Many years after [your ancestors failed to enter that place of rest] God spoke about it through David in the passage already quoted: "If you hear God speak today, don't be stubborn."7 he again defines a certain day, today, saying through David so long a time afterward (just as has been said), "Today if you will hear his voice, don't harden your hearts."7 again he determines a certain day, saying, in David, 'To-day,' after so long a time; (according as it has been said before), To-day, if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
8 For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that.8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.8 If Joshua had given the people rest, God would not have spoken about another day.8 For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken afterward of another day.8 For if Jesus had brought them into rest, he would not have spoken afterwards about another day.
9 So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.9 Therefore, a time of rest and worship exists for God's people.9 There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God.9 There remains then a sabbatism to the people of God.
10 For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.10 Those who entered his place of rest also rested from their work as God did from his.10 For he who has entered into his rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from his.10 For he that has entered into his rest, he also has rested from his works, as God did from his own.

11 Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall, through following the same example of disobedience.11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.11 So we must make every effort to enter that place of rest. Then no one will be lost by following the example of those who refused to obey.11 Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience.11 Let us therefore use diligence to enter into that rest, that no one may fall after the same example of not hearkening to the word.
12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.12 God's word is living and active. It is sharper than any two-edged sword and cuts as deep as the place where soul and spirit meet, the place where joints and marrow meet. God's word judges a person's thoughts and intentions.12 For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.12 For the word of God is living and operative, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and penetrating to the division of soul and spirit, both of joints and marrow, and a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.13 No creature can hide from God. Everything is uncovered and exposed for him to see. We must answer to him.13 There is no creature that is hidden from his sight, but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do.13 And there is not a creature unapparent before him; but all things are naked and laid bare to his eyes, with whom we have to do.
14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.14 We need to hold on to our declaration of faith: We have a superior chief priest who has gone through the heavens. That person is Jesus, the Son of God.14 Having then a great high priest, who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold tightly to our confession.14 Having therefore a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast the confession.
15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.15 We have a chief priest who is able to sympathize with our weaknesses. He was tempted in every way that we are, but he didn't sin.15 For we don't have a high priest who can't be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but one who has been in all points tempted like we are, yet without sin.15 For we have not a high priest not able to sympathise with our infirmities, but tempted in all things in like manner, sin apart.

16 Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.16 So we can go confidently to the throne of God's kindness to receive mercy and find kindness, which will help us at the right time. 16 Let us therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace for help in time of need.16 Let us approach therefore with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and find grace for seasonable help.
