Zophar Says, “The Triumph of the Wicked Is Short”
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
Then Zophar the Naamathite answered,1 Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,1 Then Zophar from Naama replied [to Job],1 Then Zophar the Naamathite answered,1 And Zophar the Naamathite answered and said,
"Therefore my disquieting thoughts make me respond, Even because of my inward agitation.2 Therefore do my thoughts cause me to answer, and for this I make haste.2 "My disturbing thoughts make me answer, and because of them I am upset.2 "Therefore do my thoughts give answer to me, even by reason of my haste that is in me.2 Therefore do my thoughts give me an answer, and for this is my haste within me.
"I listened to the reproof which insults me, And the spirit of my understanding makes me answer.3 I have heard the check of my reproach, and the spirit of my understanding causeth me to answer.3 I have heard criticism that makes me ashamed, but a spirit beyond my understanding gives me answers.3 I have heard the reproof which puts me to shame. The spirit of my understanding answers me.3 I hear a reproof putting me to shame; and my spirit answereth me by mine understanding.
"Do you know this from of old, From the establishment of man on earth,4 Knowest thou not this of old, since man was placed upon earth,4 "Don't you know that from ancient times, from the time humans were placed on earth,4 Don't you know this from old time, since man was placed on earth,4 Knowest thou not this, that of old, since man was placed upon earth,
That the triumphing of the wicked is short, And the joy of the godless momentary?5 That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?5 the triumph of the wicked is short-lived, and the joy of the godless person lasts only a moment?5 that the triumphing of the wicked is short, the joy of the godless but for a moment?5 The exultation of the wicked is short, and the joy of the ungodly man but for a moment?
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
"Though his loftiness reaches the heavens, And his head touches the clouds,6 Though his excellency mount up to the heavens, and his head reach unto the clouds;6 If his height reaches to the sky and his head touches the clouds,6 Though his height mount up to the heavens, and his head reach to the clouds,6 Though his height mount up to the heavens, and his head reach unto the clouds,
He perishes forever like his refuse; Those who have seen him will say, 'Where is he?'7 Yet he shall perish for ever like his own dung: they which have seen him shall say, Where is he?7 he will certainly rot like his own feces. Those who have seen him will say, 'Where is he?' 7 yet he shall perish forever like his own dung. Those who have seen him shall say, 'Where is he?'7 Like his own dung doth he perish for ever; they which have seen him shall say, Where is he?
"He flies away like a dream, and they cannot find him; Even like a vision of the night he is chased away.8 He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: yea, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night.8 He will fly away like a dream and not be found. He will be chased away like a vision in the night.8 He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found. Yes, he shall be chased away like a vision of the night.8 He flieth away as a dream, and is not found; and is chased away as a vision of the night.
"The eye which saw him sees him no longer, And his place no longer beholds him.9 The eye also which saw him shall see him no more; neither shall his place any more behold him.9 Eyes that saw him will see him no more. His home will not look at him again.9 The eye which saw him shall see him no more, neither shall his place any more see him.9 The eye which saw him shall see him not again; and his place beholdeth him no more.
"His sons favor the poor, And his hands give back his wealth.10 His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods.10 His children will have to ask the poor for help. His own hands will have to give back his wealth.10 His children shall seek the favor of the poor. His hands shall give back his wealth.10 His children shall seek the favour of the poor, and his hands restore his wealth.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
"His bones are full of his youthful vigor, But it lies down with him in the dust.11 His bones are full of the sin of his youth, which shall lie down with him in the dust.11 His bones, once full of youthful vigor, will lie down with him in the dust.11 His bones are full of his youth, but youth shall lie down with him in the dust.11 His bones were full of his youthful strength; but it shall lie down with him in the dust.
"Though evil is sweet in his mouth And he hides it under his tongue,12 Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue;12 "Though evil is sweet in his mouth and he hides it under his tongue....12 "Though wickedness is sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue,12 Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth and he hide it under his tongue,
Though he desires it and will not let it go, But holds it in his mouth,13 Though he spare it, and forsake it not; but keep it still within his mouth:13 Though he savors it and won't let go of it and he holds it on the roof of his mouth,13 though he spare it, and will not let it go, but keep it still within his mouth;13 Though he spare it, and forsake it not, but keep it within his mouth,
Yet his food in his stomach is changed To the venom of cobras within him.14 Yet his meat in his bowels is turned, it is the gall of asps within him.14 the food in his belly turns sour. It becomes snake venom in his stomach.14 yet his food in his bowels is turned. It is cobra venom within him.14 His food is turned in his bowels; it is the gall of asps within him.
"He swallows riches, But will vomit them up; God will expel them from his belly.15 He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly.15 He vomits up the riches that he swallowed. God forces them out of his stomach.15 He has swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again. God will cast them out of his belly.15 He hath swallowed down riches, but he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
"He sucks the poison of cobras; The viper's tongue slays him.16 He shall suck the poison of asps: the viper's tongue shall slay him.16 The godless person sucks the poison of snakes. A viper's fang kills him.16 He shall suck cobra venom. The viper's tongue shall kill him.16 He shall suck the poison of asps; the viper's tongue shall kill him.
"He does not look at the streams, The rivers flowing with honey and curds.17 He shall not see the rivers, the floods, the brooks of honey and butter.17 He won't be able to drink from the streams or from the rivers of honey and buttermilk.17 He shall not look at the rivers, the flowing streams of honey and butter.17 He shall not see streams, rivers, brooks of honey and butter.
"He returns what he has attained And cannot swallow it; As to the riches of his trading, He cannot even enjoy them.18 That which he laboured for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down: according to his substance shall the restitution be, and he shall not rejoice therein.18 He will give back what he earned without enjoying it. He will get no joy from the profits of his business18 That for which he labored he shall restore, and shall not swallow it down. According to the substance that he has gotten, he shall not rejoice.18 That which he laboured for shall he restore, and not swallow down; its restitution shall be according to the value, and he shall not rejoice therein.
"For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor; He has seized a house which he has not built.19 Because he hath oppressed and hath forsaken the poor; because he hath violently taken away an house which he builded not;19 because he crushed and abandoned the poor. He has taken by force a house that he didn't build.19 For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor. He has violently taken away a house, and he shall not build it up.19 For he hath oppressed, hath forsaken the poor; he hath violently taken away a house that he did not build.
"Because he knew no quiet within him, He does not retain anything he desires.20 Surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired.20 He will never know peace in his heart. He will never allow anything he desires to escape [his grasp].20 "Because he knew no quietness within him, he shall not save anything of that in which he delights.20 Because he knew no rest in his craving, he shall save nought of what he most desired.

"Nothing remains for him to devour, Therefore his prosperity does not endure.21 There shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods.21 "Nothing is left for him to eat. His prosperity won't last.21 There was nothing left that he didn't devour, therefore his prosperity shall not endure.21 Nothing escaped his greediness; therefore his prosperity shall not endure.
"In the fullness of his plenty he will be cramped; The hand of everyone who suffers will come against him.22 In the fulness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: every hand of the wicked shall come upon him.22 [Even] with all his wealth the full force of misery comes down on him.22 In the fullness of his sufficiency, distress shall overtake him. The hand of everyone who is in misery shall come on him.22 In the fulness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits; every hand of the wretched shall come upon him.
"When he fills his belly, God will send His fierce anger on him And will rain it on him while he is eating.23 When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath upon him, and shall rain it upon him while he is eating.23 Let that misery fill his belly. [God] throws his burning anger at the godless person and makes his wrath come down on him like rain.23 When he is about to fill his belly, God will cast the fierceness of his wrath on him. It will rain on him while he is eating.23 It shall be that, to fill his belly, he will cast his fierce anger upon him, and will rain it upon him into his flesh.
"He may flee from the iron weapon, But the bronze bow will pierce him.24 He shall flee from the iron weapon, and the bow of steel shall strike him through.24 If that person flees from an iron weapon, a bronze bow will pierce him.24 He shall flee from the iron weapon. The bronze arrow shall strike him through.24 If he have fled from the iron weapon, the bow of brass shall strike him through.
"It is drawn forth and comes out of his back, Even the glittering point from his gall. Terrors come upon him,25 It is drawn, and cometh out of the body; yea, the glittering sword cometh out of his gall: terrors are upon him.25 He pulls it out, and it comes out of his back. The glittering point comes out of his gallbladder. "Terrors come quickly to the godless person:25 He draws it forth, and it comes out of his body. Yes, the glittering point comes out of his liver. Terrors are on him.25 He draweth it forth; it cometh out of his body, and the glittering point out of his gall: terrors are upon him.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
Complete darkness is held in reserve for his treasures, And unfanned fire will devour him; It will consume the survivor in his tent.26 All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: a fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle.26 Total darkness waits in hiding for his treasure. A fire that no one fans will burn him. Whatever is left in his tent will be devoured.26 All darkness is laid up for his treasures. An unfanned fire shall devour him. It shall consume that which is left in his tent.26 All darkness is laid up for his treasures: a fire not blown shall devour him; it shall feed upon what is left in his tent.
"The heavens will reveal his iniquity, And the earth will rise up against him.27 The heaven shall reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against him.27 Heaven exposes his sin. Earth rises up against him.27 The heavens shall reveal his iniquity. The earth shall rise up against him.27 The heavens shall reveal his iniquity, and the earth shall rise up against him.
"The increase of his house will depart; His possessions will flow away in the day of His anger.28 The increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath.28 A flood will sweep away his house, a flash flood on the day of his anger.28 The increase of his house shall depart. They shall rush away in the day of his wrath.28 The increase of his house shall depart, flowing away in the day of his anger.
"This is the wicked man's portion from God, Even the heritage decreed to him by God."29 This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the heritage appointed unto him by God.29 This is the reward God gives to the wicked person, the inheritance God has appointed for him." Comfort Me by Listening to Me29 This is the portion of a wicked man from God, the heritage appointed to him by God."29 This is the portion of the wicked man from God, and the heritage appointed to him by God.
