The Lord’s Supper
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 Now before the Feast of the Passover, Jesus knowing that His hour had come that He would depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.1 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.1 Before the Passover festival, Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go back to the Father. Jesus loved his own who were in the world, and he loved them to the end.1 Now before the feast of the Passover, Jesus, knowing that his time had come that he would depart from this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.1 Now before the feast of the passover, Jesus, knowing that his hour had come that he should depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, loved them to the end.
2 During supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray Him,2 And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;2 While supper was taking place, the devil had already put the idea of betraying Jesus into the mind of Judas, son of Simon Iscariot.2 During supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him,2 And during supper, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas son of Simon, Iscariote, that he should deliver him up,
3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come forth from God and was going back to God,3 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;3 The Father had put everything in Jesus' control. Jesus knew that. He also knew that he had come from God and was going back to God.3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he came forth from God, and was going to God,3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given him all things into his hands, and that he came out from God and was going to God,
4 got up from supper, and laid aside His garments; and taking a towel, He girded Himself.4 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.4 So he got up from the table, removed his outer clothes, took a towel, and tied it around his waist.4 arose from supper, and laid aside his outer garments. He took a towel, and wrapped a towel around his waist.4 rises from supper and lays aside his garments, and having taken a linen towel he girded himself:
Jesus Washes the Disciples’ Feet
5 Then He poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.5 Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and dry them with the towel that he had tied around his waist.5 Then he poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.5 then he pours water into the washhand basin, and began to wash the feet of the disciples, and to wipe them with the linen towel with which he was girded.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 So He came to Simon Peter. He said to Him, "Lord, do You wash my feet?"6 Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?6 When Jesus came to Simon Peter, Peter asked him, "Lord, are you going to wash my feet?"6 Then he came to Simon Peter. He said to him, "Lord, do you wash my feet?"6 He comes therefore to Simon Peter; and he says to him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
7 Jesus answered and said to him, "What I do you do not realize now, but you will understand hereafter."7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.7 Jesus answered Peter, "You don't know now what I'm doing. You will understand later."7 Jesus answered him, "You don't know what I am doing now, but you will understand later."7 Jesus answered and said to him, What I do thou dost not know now, but thou shalt know hereafter.
8 Peter said to Him, "Never shall You wash my feet!" Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me."8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.8 Peter told Jesus, "You will never wash my feet." Jesus replied to Peter, "If I don't wash you, you don't belong to me."8 Peter said to him, "You will never wash my feet!" Jesus answered him, "If I don't wash you, you have no part with me."8 Peter says to him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, Unless I wash thee, thou hast not part with me.
9 Simon Peter said to Him, "Lord, then wash not only my feet, but also my hands and my head."9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.9 Simon Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, don't wash only my feet. Wash my hands and my head too!"9 Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!"9 Simon Peter says to him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
10 Jesus said to him, "He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you."10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.10 Jesus told Peter, "People who have washed are completely clean. They need to have only their feet washed. All of you, except for one, are clean."10 Jesus said to him, "Someone who has bathed only needs to have his feet washed, but is completely clean. You are clean, but not all of you."10 Jesus says to him, He that is washed all over needs not to wash save his feet, but is wholly clean; and ye are clean, but not all.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 For He knew the one who was betraying Him; for this reason He said, "Not all of you are clean."11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.11 (Jesus knew who was going to betray him. That's why he said, "All of you, except for one, are clean.")11 For he knew him who would betray him, therefore he said, "You are not all clean."11 For he knew him that delivered him up: on account of this he said, Ye are not all clean.
12 So when He had washed their feet, and taken His garments and reclined at the table again, He said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you?12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?12 After Jesus had washed their feet and put on his outer clothes, he took his place at the table again. Then he asked his disciples, "Do you understand what I've done for you?12 So when he had washed their feet, put his outer garment back on, and sat down again, he said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you?12 When therefore he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, having sat down again, he said to them, Do ye know what I have done to you?
13 "You call Me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am.13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.13 You call me teacher and Lord, and you're right because that's what I am.13 You call me, 'Teacher' and 'Lord.' You say so correctly, for so I am.13 Ye call me the Teacher and the Lord, and ye say well, for I am so.
14 "If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.14 So if I, your Lord and teacher, have washed your feet, you must wash each other's feet.14 If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.14 If I therefore, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another's feet;
15 "For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you.15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.15 I've given you an example that you should follow.15 For I have given you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you.15 for I have given you an example that, as I have done to you, ye should do also.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 "Truly, truly, I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him.16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.16 I can guarantee this truth: Slaves are not superior to their owners, and messengers are not superior to the people who send them.16 Most certainly I tell you, a servant is not greater than his lord, neither one who is sent greater than he who sent him.16 Verily, verily, I say to you, The bondman is not greater than his lord, nor the sent greater than he who has sent him.
17 "If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.17 If you understand all of this, you are blessed whenever you follow my example.17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.17 If ye know these things, blessed are ye if ye do them.
18 "I do not speak of all of you. I know the ones I have chosen; but it is that the Scripture may be fulfilled, 'HE WHO EATS MY BREAD HAS LIFTED UP HIS HEEL AGAINST ME.'18 I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.18 "I'm not talking about all of you. I know the people I've chosen [to be apostles]. However, I've made my choice so that Scripture will come true. It says, 'The one who eats my bread has turned against me.'18 I don't speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen. But that the Scripture may be fulfilled, 'He who eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me.'18 I speak not of you all. I know those whom I have chosen; but that the scripture might be fulfilled, He that eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me.
19 "From now on I am telling you before it comes to pass, so that when it does occur, you may believe that I am He.19 Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.19 I'm telling you now before it happens. Then, when it happens, you will believe that I am the one.19 From now on, I tell you before it happens, that when it happens, you may believe that I am he.19 I tell you it now before it happens, that when it happens, ye may believe that I am he.
20 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me."20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.20 "I can guarantee this truth: Whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me."20 Most certainly I tell you, he who receives whomever I send, receives me; and he who receives me, receives him who sent me."20 Verily, verily, I say to you, He who receives whomsoever I shall send receives me; and he that receives me receives him who has sent me.
Jesus Predicts His Betrayal
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
21 When Jesus had said this, He became troubled in spirit, and testified and said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, that one of you will betray Me."21 When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.21 After saying this, Jesus was deeply troubled. He declared, "I can guarantee this truth: One of you is going to betray me!"21 When Jesus had said this, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, "Most certainly I tell you that one of you will betray me."21 Having said these things, Jesus was troubled in spirit, and testified and said, Verily, verily, I say to you, that one of you shall deliver me up.
22 The disciples began looking at one another, at a loss to know of which one He was speaking.22 Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.22 The disciples began looking at each other and wondering which one of them Jesus meant.22 The disciples looked at one another, perplexed about whom he spoke.22 The disciples therefore looked one on another, doubting of whom he spoke.
23 There was reclining on Jesus' bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved.23 Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.23 One disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, was near him at the table.23 One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was at the table, leaning against Jesus' breast.23 Now there was at table one of his disciples in the bosom of Jesus, whom Jesus loved.
24 So Simon Peter gestured to him, and said to him, "Tell us who it is of whom He is speaking."24 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.24 Simon Peter motioned to that disciple and said, "Ask Jesus whom he's talking about!"24 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, and said to him, "Tell us who it is of whom he speaks."24 Simon Peter makes a sign therefore to him to ask who it might be of whom he spoke.
25 He, leaning back thus on Jesus' bosom, said to Him, "Lord, who is it?"25 He then lying on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?25 Leaning close to Jesus, that disciple asked, "Lord, who is it?"25 He, leaning back, as he was, on Jesus' breast, asked him, "Lord, who is it?"25 But he, leaning on the breast of Jesus, says to him, Lord, who is it?
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
26 Jesus then answered, "That is the one for whom I shall dip the morsel and give it to him." So when He had dipped the morsel, He took and gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.26 Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.26 Jesus answered, "He's the one to whom I will give this piece of bread after I've dipped it in the sauce." So Jesus dipped the bread and gave it to Judas, son of Simon Iscariot.26 Jesus therefore answered, "It is he to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it." So when he had dipped the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.26 Jesus answers, He it is to whom I, after I have dipped the morsel, give it. And having dipped the morsel, he gives it to Judas son of Simon, Iscariote.
27 After the morsel, Satan then entered into him. Therefore Jesus said to him, "What you do, do quickly."27 And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.27 Then, after Judas took the piece of bread, Satan entered him. So Jesus told him, "Hurry! Do what you have to do."27 After the piece of bread, then Satan entered into him. Then Jesus said to him, "What you do, do quickly."27 And, after the morsel, then entered Satan into him. Jesus therefore says to him, What thou doest, do quickly.
28 Now no one of those reclining at the table knew for what purpose He had said this to him.28 Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.28 No one at the table knew why Jesus said this to him.28 Now no man at the table knew why he said this to him.28 But none of those at table knew why he said this to him;
29 For some were supposing, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus was saying to him, "Buy the things we have need of for the feast"; or else, that he should give something to the poor.29 For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.29 Judas had the moneybag. So some thought that Jesus was telling him to buy what they needed for the festival or to give something to the poor.29 For some thought, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus said to him, "Buy what things we need for the feast," or that he should give something to the poor.29 for some supposed, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus was saying to him, Buy the things of which we have need for the feast; or that he should give something to the poor.
30 So after receiving the morsel he went out immediately; and it was night.30 He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.30 Judas took the piece of bread and immediately went outside. It was night.30 Therefore, having received that morsel, he went out immediately. It was night.30 Having therefore received the morsel, he went out immediately; and it was night.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
31 Therefore when he had gone out, Jesus said, "Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in Him;31 Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.31 When Judas was gone, Jesus said, "The Son of Man is now glorified, and because of him God is glorified.31 When he had gone out, Jesus said, "Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him.31 When therefore he was gone out Jesus says, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.
32 if God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and will glorify Him immediately.32 If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him.32 If God is glorified because of the Son of Man, God will glorify the Son of Man because of himself, and he will glorify the Son of Man at once."32 If God has been glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and he will glorify him immediately.32 If God be glorified in him, God also shall glorify him in himself, and shall glorify him immediately.
33 "Little children, I am with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, now I also say to you, 'Where I am going, you cannot come.'33 Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you.33 Jesus said, "Dear children, I will still be with you for a little while. I'm telling you what I told the Jews. You will look for me, but you can't go where I'm going.33 Little children, I will be with you a little while longer. You will seek me, and as I said to the Jews, 'Where I am going, you can't come,' so now I tell you.33 Children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me; and, as I said to the Jews, Where I go ye cannot come, I say to you also now.
34 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.34 "I'm giving you a new commandment: Love each other in the same way that I have loved you.34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, just like I have loved you; that you also love one another.34 A new commandment I give to you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35 "By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.35 Everyone will know that you are my disciples because of your love for each other."35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."35 By this shall all know that ye are disciples of mine, if ye have love amongst yourselves.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
36 Simon Peter said to Him, "Lord, where are You going?" Jesus answered, "Where I go, you cannot follow Me now; but you will follow later."36 Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.36 Simon Peter asked him, "Lord, where are you going?" Jesus answered him, "You can't follow me now to the place where I'm going. However, you will follow me later."36 Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, where are you going?" Jesus answered, "Where I am going, you can't follow now, but you will follow afterwards."36 Simon Peter says to him, Lord, where goest thou? Jesus answered him, Where I go thou canst not follow me now, but thou shalt follow me after.
37 Peter said to Him, "Lord, why can I not follow You right now? I will lay down my life for You."37 Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.37 Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, why can't I follow you now? I'll give my life for you."37 Peter said to him, "Lord, why can't I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you."37 Peter says to him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thee.
38 Jesus answered, "Will you lay down your life for Me? Truly, truly, I say to you, a rooster will not crow until you deny Me three times.38 Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.38 Jesus replied, "Will you give your life for me? I can guarantee this truth: No rooster will crow until you say three times that you don't know me.38 Jesus answered him, "Will you lay down your life for me? Most certainly I tell you, the rooster won't crow until you have denied me three times.38 Jesus answers, Thou wilt lay down thy life for me! Verily, verily, I say to thee, The cock shall not crow till thou hast denied me thrice.
