Judas Betrays Jesus

1 When Jesus had spoken these words, He went forth with His disciples over the ravine of the Kidron, where there was a garden, in which He entered with His disciples.1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.1 After Jesus finished his prayer, he went with his disciples to the other side of the Kidron Valley. 9 to fulfill the word which He spoke, "Of those whom You have given Me I lost not one."9 That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none.9 In this way what Jesus had said came true: "I lost none of those you gave me."9 that the word might be fulfilled which he spoke, "Of those whom you have given me, I have lost none."9 that the word might be fulfilled which he spoke, As to those whom thou hast given me, I have not lost one of them.
10 Simon Peter then, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's slave, and cut off his right ear; and the slave's name was Malchus.10 Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.10 Simon Peter had a sword. He drew it, attacked the chief priest's servant, and cut off the servant's right ear. 11 So Jesus said to Peter, "Put the sword into the sheath; the cup which the Father has given Me, shall I not drink it?"11 Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?11 Jesus told Peter, "Put your sword away. Shouldn't I drink the cup [of suffering] that my Father has given me?"11 Jesus therefore said to Peter, "Put the sword into its sheath. The cup which the Father has given me, shall I not surely drink it?"11 Jesus therefore said to Peter, Put the sword into the sheath; the cup which the Father has given me, shall I not drink it?
Jesus before the Priests
12 So the Roman cohort and the commander and the officers of the Jews, arrested Jesus and bound Him,12 Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,12 Then the army officer and the Jewish guards arrested Jesus. They tied Jesus up12 So the detachment, the commanding officer, and the officers of the Jews, seized Jesus and bound him,12 The band therefore, and the chiliarch, and the officers of the Jews, took Jesus and bound him:

15 Simon Peter was following Jesus, and so was another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and entered with Jesus into the court of the high priest,15 And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.15 Simon Peter and another disciple followed Jesus. The other disciple was well-known to the chief priest. So that disciple went with Jesus into the chief priest's courtyard.15 Simon Peter followed Jesus, as did another disciple. 16 but Peter was standing at the door outside. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the doorkeeper, and brought Peter in.16 But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.16 Peter, however, was standing outside the gate. The other disciple talked to the woman who was the gatekeeper and brought Peter into the courtyard.16 but Peter was standing at the door outside. 17 Then the slave-girl who kept the door said to Peter, "You are not also one of this man's disciples, are you?" He said, "I am not."17 Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man's disciples? He saith, I am not.17 The gatekeeper asked Peter, "Aren't you one of this man's disciples too?" Peter answered, "No, I'm not!"17 Then the maid who kept the door said to Peter, "Are you also one of this man's disciples?" He said, "I am not."17 The maid therefore, who was porteress, says to Peter, Art thou also of the disciples of this man? He says, I am not.
18 Now the slaves and the officers were standing there, having made a charcoal fire, for it was cold and they were warming themselves; and Peter was also with them, standing and warming himself.18 And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.18 The servants and the guards were standing around a fire they had built and were warming themselves because it was cold. Peter was standing there, too, and warming himself with the others.18 Now the servants and the officers were standing there, having made a fire of coals, for it was cold. They were warming themselves. Peter was with them, standing and warming himself.18 But the bondmen and officers, having made a fire of coals (for it was cold), stood and warmed themselves; and Peter was standing with them and warming himself.

20 Jesus answered him, "I have spoken openly to the world; I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where all the Jews come together; and I spoke nothing in secret.20 Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.20 Jesus answered him, "I have spoken publicly for everyone to hear. I have always taught in synagogues or in the temple courtyard, where all the Jews gather. I haven't said anything in secret.20 Jesus answered him, "I spoke openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues, and in the temple, where the Jews always meet. 21 "Why do you question Me? Question those who have heard what I spoke to them; they know what I said."21 Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.21 Why do you question me? Behold, these know the things which I said."21 Why demandest thou of me? Demand of those who have heard, what I have spoken to them; behold, they know what I have said.
22 When He had said this, one of the officers standing nearby struck Jesus, saying, "Is that the way You answer the high priest?"22 And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?22 When Jesus said this, one of the guards standing near Jesus slapped his face and said, "Is that how you answer the chief priest?"22 When he had said this, one of the officers standing by slapped Jesus with his hand, saying, "Do you answer the high priest like that?"22 But as he said these things, one of the officers who stood by gave a blow on the face to Jesus, saying, Answerest thou the high priest thus?
23 Jesus answered him, "If I have spoken wrongly, testify of the wrong; but if rightly, why do you strike Me?"23 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?23 Jesus replied to him, "If I've said anything wrong, tell me what it was. But if I've told the truth, why do you hit me?"23 Jesus answered him, "If I have spoken evil, testify of the evil; but if well, why do you beat me?"23 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil; but if well, why smitest thou me?
24 So Annas sent Him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.24 Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.24 Annas sent Jesus to Caiaphas, the chief priest. Jesus was still tied up.24 Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas, the high priest.24 Annas then had sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.
Peter’s Denial of Jesus
25 Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. So they said to him, "You are not also one of His disciples, are you?" He denied it, and said, "I am not."25 And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.25 Simon Peter continued to stand and warm himself by the fire. Some men asked him, "Aren't you, too, one of his disciples?" Peter denied it by saying, "No, I'm not!"25 Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said therefore to him, "You aren't also one of his disciples, are you?" He denied it, and said, "I am not."25 But Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said therefore to him, Art thou also of his disciples? He denied, and said, I am not.

26 One of the slaves of the high priest, being a relative of the one whose ear Peter cut off, said, "Did I not see you in the garden with Him?"26 One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?26 One of the chief priest's servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked him, "Didn't I see you with Jesus in the garden?"26 One of the servants of the high priest, being a relative of him whose ear Peter had cut off, said, "Didn't I see you in the garden with him?"26 One of the bondmen of the high priest, who was kinsman of him whose ear Peter cut off, says, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?

Jesus before Pilate
28 Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas into the Praetorium, and it was early; and they themselves did not enter into the Praetorium so that they would not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.28 Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.28 Early in the morning, Jesus was taken from Caiaphas' house to the governor's palace. The Jews wouldn't go into the palace. They didn't want to become unclean, since they wanted to eat the Passover. 28 They led Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium. It was early, and they themselves didn't enter into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.28 They lead therefore Jesus from Caiaphas to the praetorium; and it was early morn. And they entered not into the praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but eat the passover.
29 Therefore Pilate went out to them and said, "What accusation do you bring against this Man?"29 Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man?29 So Pilate came out to them and asked, "What accusation are you making against this man?"29 Pilate therefore went out to them, and said, "What accusation do you bring against this man?"29 Pilate therefore went out to them and said, What accusation do ye bring against this man?
30 They answered and said to him, "If this Man were not an evildoer, we would not have delivered Him to you."30 They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.30 The Jews answered Pilate, "If he weren't a criminal, we wouldn't have handed him over to you."30 They answered him, "If this man weren't an evildoer, we wouldn't have delivered him up to you."30 They answered and said to him, If this man were not an evildoer, we should not have delivered him up to thee.

31 So Pilate said to them, "Take Him yourselves, and judge Him according to your law." The Jews said to him, "We are not permitted to put anyone to death,"31 Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:31 Pilate told the Jews, "Take him, and try him by your law." The Jews answered him, "We're not allowed to execute anyone."31 Pilate therefore said to them, "Take him yourselves, and judge him according to your law." Therefore the Jews said to him, "It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death,"31 Pilate therefore said to them, Take him, ye, and judge him according to your law. 35 Pilate answered, "I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered You to me; what have You done?"35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?35 Pilate answered, "Am I a Jew? Your own people and the chief priests handed you over to me. What have you done?"35 Pilate answered, "I'm not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered you to me. What have you done?"35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thy nation and the chief priests have delivered thee up to me: what hast thou done?

36 Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm."36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.36 Jesus answered, "My kingdom doesn't belong to this world. If my kingdom belonged to this world, my followers would fight to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. My kingdom doesn't have its origin on earth."36 Jesus answered, "My Kingdom is not of this world. If my Kingdom were of this world, then my servants would fight, that I wouldn't be delivered to the Jews. But now my Kingdom is not from here."36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world; if my kingdom were of this world, my servants had fought that I might not be delivered up to the Jews; but now my kingdom is not from hence.
37 Therefore Pilate said to Him, "So You are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice."37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.37 Pilate asked him, "So you are a king?" Jesus replied, "You're correct in saying that I'm a king. I have been born and have come into the world for this reason: to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to me."37 Pilate therefore said to him, "Are you a king then?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. For this reason I have been born, and for this reason I have come into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice."37 Pilate therefore said to him, Thou art then a king? Jesus answered, Thou sayest it, that I am a king. I have been born for this, and for this I have come into the world, that I might bear witness to the truth. Every one that is of the truth hears my voice.
38 Pilate said to Him, "What is truth?" And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews and said to them, "I find no guilt in Him.38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.38 Pilate said to him, "What is truth?" After Pilate said this, he went out to the Jews again and told them, "I don't find this man guilty of anything.38 Pilate said to him, "What is truth?" When he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, "I find no basis for a charge against him.38 Pilate says to him, What is truth? And having said this he went out again to the Jews, and says to them, I find no fault whatever in him.
39 "But you have a custom that I release someone for you at the Passover; do you wish then that I release for you the King of the Jews?"39 But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?39 You have a custom that I should free one person for you at Passover. Would you like me to free the king of the Jews for you?"39 But you have a custom, that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Therefore do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?"39 But ye have a custom that I release some one to you at the passover; will ye therefore that I release unto you the king of the Jews?
40 So they cried out again, saying, "Not this Man, but Barabbas." Now Barabbas was a robber.40 Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.40 The Jews shouted again, "Don't free this man! Free Barabbas!" (Barabbas was a political revolutionary.)40 Then they all shouted again, saying, "Not this man, but Barabbas!" Now Barabbas was a robber.40 They cried therefore again all, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.
