Salutation
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
1 Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, To Philemon our beloved brother and fellow worker,1 Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellowlabourer,1 From Paul, who is a prisoner for Christ Jesus, and our brother Timothy. To our dear coworker Philemon,1 Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon, our beloved fellow worker,1 Paul, prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timotheus the brother, to Philemon the beloved and our fellow-workman,
2 and to Apphia our sister, and to Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church in your house:2 And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the church in thy house:2 our sister Apphia, our fellow soldier Archippus, and the church that meets in your house.2 to the beloved Apphia, to Archippus, our fellow soldier, and to the assembly in your house:2 and to the sister Apphia and to Archippus our fellow-soldier, and to the assembly which is in thine house.
3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.3 Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.3 Good will and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ are yours! 3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philemon’s Love and Faith
4 I thank my God always, making mention of you in my prayers,4 I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,4 [Philemon,] I always thank my God when I mention you in my prayers because4 I thank my God always, making mention of you in my prayers,4 I thank my God, always making mention of thee at my prayers,
5 because I hear of your love and of the faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints;5 Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints;5 I hear about your faithfulness to the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God's people.5 hearing of your love, and of the faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all the saints;5 hearing of thy love and the faith which thou hast towards the Lord Jesus, and towards all the saints,
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
6 and I pray that the fellowship of your faith may become effective through the knowledge of every good thing which is in you for Christ's sake.6 That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.6 As you share the faith you have in common with others, I pray that you may come to have a complete knowledge of every blessing we have in Christ.6 that the fellowship of your faith may become effective, in the knowledge of every good thing which is in us in Christ Jesus.6 in such sort that thy participation in the faith should become operative in the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in us towards Christ Jesus.
7 For I have come to have much joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you, brother.7 For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.7 Your love [for God's people] gives me a lot of joy and encouragement. You, brother, have comforted God's people.7 For we have much joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you, brother.7 For we have great thankfulness and encouragement through thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.
8 Therefore, though I have enough confidence in Christ to order you to do what is proper,8 Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient,8 Christ makes me bold enough to order you to do the right thing.8 Therefore, though I have all boldness in Christ to command you that which is appropriate,8 Wherefore having much boldness in Christ to enjoin thee what is fitting,
9 yet for love's sake I rather appeal to you-- since I am such a person as Paul, the aged, and now also a prisoner of Christ Jesus--9 Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.9 However, I would prefer to make an appeal on the basis of love. I, Paul, as an old man and now a prisoner for Christ Jesus,9 yet for love's sake I rather beg, being such a one as Paul, the aged, but also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.9 for love's sake I rather exhort, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now also prisoner of Jesus Christ.
Plea for Onesimus, a Free Man
10 I appeal to you for my child Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my imprisonment,10 I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:10 appeal to you for my child Onesimus [Useful]. I became his spiritual father here in prison.10 I beg you for my child, whom I have become the father of in my chains, Onesimus,10 I exhort thee for my child, whom I have begotten in my bonds, Onesimus,
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
11 who formerly was useless to you, but now is useful both to you and to me.11 Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:11 Once he was useless to you, but now he is very useful to both of us.11 who once was useless to you, but now is useful to you and to me.11 once unserviceable to thee, but now serviceable to thee and to me:
12 I have sent him back to you in person, that is, sending my very heart,12 Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels:12 I am sending him back to you. This is like sending you a part of myself.12 I am sending him back. Therefore receive him, that is, my own heart,12 whom I have sent back to thee: but do thou receive him, that is, my bowels:
13 whom I wished to keep with me, so that on your behalf he might minister to me in my imprisonment for the gospel;13 Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel:13 I wanted to keep him here with me. Then he could have served me in your place while I am in prison for spreading the Good News.13 whom I desired to keep with me, that on your behalf he might serve me in my chains for the Good News.13 whom I was desirous of keeping with myself, that for thee he might minister to me in the bonds of the glad tidings;
14 but without your consent I did not want to do anything, so that your goodness would not be, in effect, by compulsion but of your own free will.14 But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.14 Yet, I didn't want to do anything without your consent. I want you to do this favor for me out of your own free will without feeling forced to do it.14 But I was willing to do nothing without your consent, that your goodness would not be as of necessity, but of free will.14 but I have wished to do nothing without thy mind, that thy good might not be as of necessity but of willingness:
15 For perhaps he was for this reason separated from you for a while, that you would have him back forever,15 For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever;15 Maybe Onesimus was gone for a while so that you could have him back forever-15 For perhaps he was therefore separated from you for a while, that you would have him forever,15 for perhaps for this reason he has been separated from thee for a time, that thou mightest possess him fully for ever;
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
16 no longer as a slave, but more than a slave, a beloved brother, especially to me, but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord.16 Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?16 no longer as a slave but better than a slave-as a dear brother. He is especially dear to me, but even more so to you, both as a person and as a Christian.16 no longer as a slave, but more than a slave, a beloved brother, especially to me, but how much rather to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord.16 not any longer as a bondman, but above a bondman, a beloved brother, specially to me, and how much rather to thee, both in the flesh and in the Lord?
17 If then you regard me a partner, accept him as you would me.17 If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.17 If you think of me as your partner, welcome him as you would welcome me.17 If then you count me a partner, receive him as you would receive me.17 If therefore thou holdest me to be a partner with thee, receive him as me;
18 But if he has wronged you in any way or owes you anything, charge that to my account;18 If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account;18 If he wronged you in any way or owes you anything, charge it to me.18 But if he has wronged you at all, or owes you anything, put that to my account.18 but if he have wronged thee anything or owe anything to thee, put this to my account.
19 I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand, I will repay it (not to mention to you that you owe to me even your own self as well).19 I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides.19 I, Paul, promise to pay it back. I'm writing this with my own hand. I won't even mention that you owe me your life.19 I, Paul, write this with my own hand: I will repay it (not to mention to you that you owe to me even your own self besides).19 I Paul have written it with mine own hand; I will repay it: that I say not to thee that thou owest even thine own self also to me.
20 Yes, brother, let me benefit from you in the Lord; refresh my heart in Christ.20 Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord.20 So, because we're brothers in the Lord, do something for me. Give me some comfort because of Christ.20 Yes, brother, let me have joy from you in the Lord. Refresh my heart in the Lord.20 Yea, brother, I would have profit of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in Christ.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
21 Having confidence in your obedience, I write to you, since I know that you will do even more than what I say.21 Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.21 I am confident as I write to you that you will do this. And I know that you will do even more than I ask.21 Having confidence in your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even beyond what I say.21 Being confident of thine obedience, I have written to thee, knowing that thou wilt do even more than I say.
22 At the same time also prepare me a lodging, for I hope that through your prayers I will be given to you.22 But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.22 One more thing-have a guest room ready for me. I hope that, because of your prayers, God will give me back to you.22 Also, prepare a guest room for me, for I hope that through your prayers I will be restored to you.22 But withal prepare me also a lodging; for I hope that I shall be granted to you through your prayers.
23 Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, greets you,23 There salute thee Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus;23 Epaphras, who is a prisoner because of Christ Jesus like I am,23 Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, greets you,23 Epaphras salutes thee, my fellow-prisoner in Christ Jesus;
24 as do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow workers.24 Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers.24 and my coworkers Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke send you greetings.24 as do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my fellow workers.24 Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow-workmen.
25 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.25 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.25 The good will of our Lord Jesus Christ be yours.25 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.25 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.
