Be Like Christ | ||||
NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
1 Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, | 1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, | 1 So then, as Christians, do you have any encouragement? Do you have any comfort from love? Do you have any spiritual relationships? Do you have any sympathy and compassion? | 1 If there is therefore any exhortation in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any tender mercies and compassion, | 1 If then there be any comfort in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and compassions, | 2 make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. | 2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. | 2 Then fill me with joy by having the same attitude and the same love, living in harmony, and keeping one purpose in mind. | 2 make my joy full, by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind; | 2 fulfil my joy, that ye may think the same thing, having the same love, joined in soul, thinking one thing; | 3 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; | 3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. | 3 Don't act out of selfish ambition or be conceited. Instead, humbly think of others as being better than yourselves. | 3 doing nothing through rivalry or through conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself; | 3 let nothing be in the spirit of strife or vain glory, but, in lowliness of mind, each esteeming the other as more excellent than themselves; | 4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. | 4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. | 4 Don't be concerned only about your own interests, but also be concerned about the interests of others. | 4 each of you not just looking to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others. | 4 regarding not each his own qualities, but each those of others also. | 5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, | 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: | 5 Have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. | 5 Have this in your mind, which was also in Christ Jesus, | 5 For let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus; | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, | 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: | 6 Although he was in the form of God and equal with God, he did not take advantage of this equality. | 6 who, existing in the form of God, didn't consider equality with God a thing to be grasped, | 6 who, subsisting in the form of God, did not esteem it an object of rapine to be on an equality with God; | 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. | 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: | 7 Instead, he emptied himself by taking on the form of a servant, by becoming like other humans, by having a human appearance. | 7 but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men. | 7 but emptied himself, taking a bondman's form, taking his place in the likeness of men; | 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. | 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. | 8 He humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, death on a cross. | 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, yes, the death of the cross. | 8 and having been found in figure as a man, humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, and that the death of the cross. | 9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, | 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: | 9 This is why God has given him an exceptional honor- the name honored above all other names- | 9 Therefore God also highly exalted him, and gave to him the name which is above every name; | 9 Wherefore also God highly exalted him, and granted him a name, that which is above every name, | 10 so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, | 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; | 10 so that at the name of Jesus everyone in heaven, on earth, and in the world below will kneel | 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, those on earth, and those under the earth, | 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of heavenly and earthly and infernal beings, | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. | 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. | 11 and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. | 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. | 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to God the Father's glory. | 12 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; | 12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. | 12 My dear friends, you have always obeyed, not only when I was with you but even more now that I'm absent. In the same way continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling. | 12 So then, my beloved, even as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. | 12 So that, my beloved, even as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much rather in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, | 13 for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. | 13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. | 13 It is God who produces in you the desires and actions that please him. | 13 For it is God who works in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure. | 13 for it is God who works in you both the willing and the working according to his good pleasure. | 14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing; | 14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings: | 14 Do everything without complaining or arguing. | 14 Do all things without murmurings and disputes, | 14 Do all things without murmurings and reasonings, | 15 so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, | 15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; | 15 Then you will be blameless and innocent. You will be God's children without any faults among people who are crooked and corrupt. You will shine like stars among them in the world | 15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you are seen as lights in the world, | 15 that ye may be harmless and simple, irreproachable children of God in the midst of a crooked and perverted generation; among whom ye appear as lights in the world, | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
16 holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain. | 16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain. | 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. Then I can brag on the day of Christ that my effort was not wasted and that my work produced results. | 16 holding up the word of life; that I may have something to boast in the day of Christ, that I didn't run in vain nor labor in vain. | 16 holding forth the word of life, so as to be a boast for me in Christ's day, that I have not run in vain nor laboured in vain. | 17 But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and share my joy with you all. | 17 Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all. | 17 My life is being poured out as a part of the sacrifice and service [I offer to God] for your faith. Yet, I am filled with joy, and I share that joy with all of you. | 17 Yes, and if I am poured out on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice, and rejoice with you all. | 17 But if also I am poured out as a libation on the sacrifice and ministration of your faith, I rejoice, and rejoice in common with you all. | 18 You too, I urge you, rejoice in the same way and share your joy with me. | 18 For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me. | 18 For this same reason you also should be filled with joy and share that joy with me. | 18 In the same way, you also rejoice, and rejoice with me. | 18 In like manner do ye also rejoice, and rejoice with me. | Timothy and Epaphroditus |
19 But I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you shortly, so that I also may be encouraged when I learn of your condition. | 19 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state. | 19 I hope that the Lord Jesus will allow me to send Timothy to you soon so that I can receive some encouraging news about you. | 19 But I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered up when I know how you are doing. | 19 But I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus to you shortly, that I also may be refreshed, knowing how ye get on. | 20 For I have no one else of kindred spirit who will genuinely be concerned for your welfare. | 20 For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state. | 20 I don't have anyone else like Timothy. He takes a genuine interest in your welfare. | 20 For I have no one else like-minded, who will truly care about you. | 20 For I have no one like-minded who will care with genuine feeling how ye get on. | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
21 For they all seek after their own interests, not those of Christ Jesus. | 21 For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ's. | 21 Everyone else looks after his own interests, not after those of Jesus Christ. | 21 For they all seek their own, not the things of Jesus Christ. | 21 For all seek their own things, not the things of Jesus Christ. | 22 But you know of his proven worth, that he served with me in the furtherance of the gospel like a child serving his father. | 22 But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel. | 22 But you know what kind of person Timothy proved to be. Like a father and son we worked hard together to spread the Good News. | 22 But you know the proof of him, that, as a child serves a father, so he served with me in furtherance of the Good News. | 22 But ye know the proof of him, that, as a child a father, he has served with me in the work of the glad tidings. | 23 Therefore I hope to send him immediately, as soon as I see how things go with me; | 23 Him therefore I hope to send presently, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me. | 23 I hope to send him as soon as I see how things are going to turn out for me. | 23 Therefore I hope to send him at once, as soon as I see how it will go with me. | 23 Him therefore I hope to send immediately, as soon as I shall see how it goes with me: | 24 and I trust in the Lord that I myself also will be coming shortly. | 24 But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly. | 24 But the Lord gives me confidence that I will come [to visit you] soon. | 24 But I trust in the Lord that I myself also will come shortly. | 24 but I trust in the Lord that I myself also shall soon come; | 25 But I thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger and minister to my need; | 25 Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants. | 25 I feel that I must send Epaphroditus-my brother, coworker, and fellow soldier-back to you. You sent him as your personal representative to help me in my need. | 25 But I counted it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, fellow soldier, and your apostle and servant of my need; | 25 but I have thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow-workman and fellow-soldier, but your messenger and minister to my need, | NASB | KJV | GWT | WEB | DBY |
26 because he was longing for you all and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick. | 26 For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick. | 26 He has been longing to see all of you and is troubled because you heard that he was sick. | 26 since he longed for you all, and was very troubled, because you had heard that he was sick. | 26 since he had a longing desire after you all, and was distressed because ye had heard that he was sick; | 27 For indeed he was sick to the point of death, but God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, so that I would not have sorrow upon sorrow. | 27 For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. | 27 Indeed, he was so sick that he almost died. But God had mercy not only on him but also on me and kept me from having one sorrow on top of another. | 27 For indeed he was sick, nearly to death, but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, that I might not have sorrow on sorrow. | 27 for he was also sick close to death, but God had mercy on him, and not indeed on him alone, but also on me, that I might not have sorrow upon sorrow. | 28 Therefore I have sent him all the more eagerly so that when you see him again you may rejoice and I may be less concerned about you. | 28 I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful. | 28 So I'm especially eager to send him to you. In this way you will have the joy of seeing him again and I will feel relieved. | 28 I have sent him therefore the more diligently, that, when you see him again, you may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful. | 28 I have sent him therefore the more diligently, that seeing him ye might again rejoice, and that I might be the less sorrowful. | 29 Receive him then in the Lord with all joy, and hold men like him in high regard; | 29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation: | 29 Give him a joyful Christian welcome. Make sure you honor people like Epaphroditus highly. | 29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all joy, and hold such in honor, | 29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all joy, and hold such in honour; | 30 because he came close to death for the work of Christ, risking his life to complete what was deficient in your service to me. | 30 Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me. | 30 He risked his life and almost died for the work of Christ in order to make up for the help you couldn't give me. | 30 because for the work of Christ he came near to death, risking his life to supply that which was lacking in your service toward me. | 30 because for the sake of the work he drew near even to death, venturing his life that he might fill up what lacked in your ministration toward me. |
