On Life and Conduct
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity Than he who is perverse in speech and is a fool.1 Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.1 Better to be a poor person who lives innocently than to be one who talks dishonestly and is a fool.1 Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than he who is perverse in his lips and is a fool.1 Better is a poor man that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
Also it is not good for a person to be without knowledge, And he who hurries his footsteps errs.2 Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.2 A person without knowledge is no good. A person in a hurry makes mistakes.2 It isn't good to have zeal without knowledge; nor being hasty with one's feet and missing the way.2 Also that a person be without knowledge is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet maketh false steps.
The foolishness of man ruins his way, And his heart rages against the LORD.3 The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the LORD.3 The stupidity of a person turns his life upside down, and his heart rages against the LORD.3 The foolishness of man subverts his way; his heart rages against Yahweh.3 The folly of man distorteth his way, and his heart is irritated against Jehovah.
Wealth adds many friends, But a poor man is separated from his friend.4 Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.4 Wealth adds many friends, but a poor person is separated from his friend.4 Wealth adds many friends, but the poor is separated from his friend.4 Wealth addeth many friends; but the poor is separated from his friend.
A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who tells lies will not escape.5 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.5 A lying witness will not go unpunished. One who tells lies will not escape.5 A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who pours out lies shall not go free.5 A false witness shall not be held innocent, and he that uttereth lies shall not escape.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
Many will seek the favor of a generous man, And every man is a friend to him who gives gifts.6 Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.6 Many try to win the kindness of a generous person, and everyone is a friend to a person who gives gifts.6 Many will entreat the favor of a ruler, and everyone is a friend to a man who gives gifts.6 Many court the favour of a noble; and every one is friend to a man that giveth.
All the brothers of a poor man hate him; How much more do his friends abandon him! He pursues them with words, but they are gone.7 All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.7 The entire family of a poor person hates him. How much more do his friends keep their distance from him! When he chases them with words, they are gone.7 All the relatives of the poor shun him: how much more do his friends avoid him! He pursues them with pleas, but they are gone.7 All the brethren of a poor man hate him; how much more do his friends go far from him: he pursueth them with words, they are not to be found.
He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; He who keeps understanding will find good.8 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.8 A person who gains sense loves himself. One who guards understanding finds something good.8 He who gets wisdom loves his own soul. He who keeps understanding shall find good.8 He that getteth sense loveth his own soul; he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who tells lies will perish.9 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.9 A lying witness will not go unpunished. One who tells lies will die.9 A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who utters lies shall perish.9 A false witness shall not be held innocent, and he that uttereth lies shall perish.
Luxury is not fitting for a fool; Much less for a slave to rule over princes.10 Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.10 Luxury does not fit a fool, much less a slave ruling princes.10 Delicate living is not appropriate for a fool, much less for a servant to have rule over princes.10 Good living beseemeth not a fool; how much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
A man's discretion makes him slow to anger, And it is his glory to overlook a transgression.11 The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.11 A person with good sense is patient, and it is to his credit that he overlooks an offense.11 The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. It is his glory to overlook an offense.11 The discretion of a man maketh him slow to anger, and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
The king's wrath is like the roaring of a lion, But his favor is like dew on the grass.12 The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.12 The rage of a king is like the roar of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.12 The king's wrath is like the roaring of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.12 The king's displeasure is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.
A foolish son is destruction to his father, And the contentions of a wife are a constant dripping.13 A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.13 A foolish son ruins his father, and a quarreling woman is like constantly dripping water.13 A foolish son is the calamity of his father. A wife's quarrels are a continual dripping.13 A foolish son is the calamity of his father; and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.
House and wealth are an inheritance from fathers, But a prudent wife is from the LORD.14 House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the LORD.14 Home and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a sensible wife comes from the LORD.14 House and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from Yahweh.14 House and wealth are an inheritance from fathers; but a prudent wife is from Jehovah.
Laziness casts into a deep sleep, And an idle man will suffer hunger.15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.15 Laziness throws one into a deep sleep, and an idle person will go hungry.15 Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep. The idle soul shall suffer hunger.15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep, and the idle soul shall suffer hunger.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, But he who is careless of conduct will die.16 He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.16 Whoever obeys the law preserves his life, [but] whoever despises the LORD's ways will be put to death.16 He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, but he who is contemptuous in his ways shall die.16 He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his soul; he that is careless of his ways shall die.
One who is gracious to a poor man lends to the LORD, And He will repay him for his good deed.17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.17 Whoever has pity on the poor lends to the LORD, and he will repay him for his good deed.17 He who has pity on the poor lends to Yahweh; he will reward him.17 He that is gracious to the poor lendeth unto Jehovah; and what he hath bestowed will he repay unto him.
Discipline your son while there is hope, And do not desire his death.18 Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.18 Discipline your son while there is still hope. Do not be the one responsible for his death.18 Discipline your son, for there is hope; don't be a willing party to his death.18 Chasten thy son, seeing there is hope; but set not thy soul upon killing him.
A man of great anger will bear the penalty, For if you rescue him, you will only have to do it again.19 A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.19 A person who has a hot temper will pay for it. If you rescue him, you will have to do it over and over.19 A hot-tempered man must pay the penalty, for if you rescue him, you must do it again.19 A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment; for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.
Listen to counsel and accept discipline, That you may be wise the rest of your days.20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.20 Listen to advice and accept discipline so that you may be wise the rest of your life.20 Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end.20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
Many plans are in a man's heart, But the counsel of the LORD will stand.21 There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.21 Many plans are in the human heart, but the advice of the LORD will endure.21 There are many plans in a man's heart, but Yahweh's counsel will prevail.21 Many are the thoughts in a man's heart, but the counsel of Jehovah, that doth stand.
What is desirable in a man is his kindness, And it is better to be a poor man than a liar.22 The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.22 Loyalty is desirable in a person, and it is better to be poor than a liar.22 That which makes a man to be desired is his kindness. A poor man is better than a liar.22 The charm of a man is his kindness; and a poor man is better than a liar.
The fear of the LORD leads to life, So that one may sleep satisfied, untouched by evil.23 The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.23 The fear of the LORD leads to life, and such a person will rest easy without suffering harm. 23 The fear of Yahweh leads to life, then contentment; he rests and will not be touched by trouble.23 The fear of Jehovah tendeth to life, and he that hath it shall rest satisfied without being visited with evil.
The sluggard buries his hand in the dish, But will not even bring it back to his mouth.24 A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.24 A lazy person puts his fork in his food. He doesn't even bring it back to his mouth.24 The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.24 A sluggard burieth his hand in the dish, and will not even bring it to his mouth again.
Strike a scoffer and the naive may become shrewd, But reprove one who has understanding and he will gain knowledge.25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.25 Strike a mocker, and a gullible person may learn a lesson. Warn an understanding person, and he will gain more knowledge.25 Flog a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke one who has understanding, and he will gain knowledge.25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware; reprove the intelligent, and he will understand knowledge.
NASBKJVGWTWEBDBY
He who assaults his father and drives his mother away Is a shameful and disgraceful son.26 He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.26 A son who assaults his father [and] who drives away his mother brings shame and disgrace.26 He who robs his father and drives away his mother, is a son who causes shame and brings reproach.26 He that ruineth his father and chaseth away his mother is a son that causeth shame and bringeth reproach.
Cease listening, my son, to discipline, And you will stray from the words of knowledge.27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.27 If you stop listening to instruction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge.27 If you stop listening to instruction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge.27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction which causeth to stray from the words of knowledge.
A rascally witness makes a mockery of justice, And the mouth of the wicked spreads iniquity.28 An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.28 A worthless witness mocks justice, and the mouths of wicked people swallow up trouble.28 A corrupt witness mocks justice, and the mouth of the wicked gulps down iniquity.28 A witness of Belial scorneth judgment, and the mouth of the wicked swalloweth down iniquity.
Judgments are prepared for scoffers, And blows for the back of fools.29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.29 Punishments are set for mockers and beatings for the backs of fools.29 Penalties are prepared for scoffers, and beatings for the backs of fools.29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of the foolish.
