6 Do not claim honor in the presence of the king, And do not stand in the place of great men;6 Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:6 Do not brag about yourself in front of a king or stand in the spot that belongs to notable people,6 Don't exalt yourself in the presence of the king, or claim a place among great men;6 Put not thyself forward in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of the great;
7 For it is better that it be said to you, "Come up here," Than for you to be placed lower in the presence of the prince, Whom your eyes have seen.7 For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.7 because it is better to be told, "Come up here," than to be put down in front of a prince whom your eyes have seen.7 for it is better that it be said to you, "Come up here," than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince, whom your eyes have seen.7 for better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither, than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes see.
8 Do not go out hastily to argue your case; Otherwise, what will you do in the end, When your neighbor humiliates you?8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.8 Do not be in a hurry to go to court. What will you do in the end if your neighbor disgraces you?8 Don't be hasty in bringing charges to court. 11 Like apples of gold in settings of silver Is a word spoken in right circumstances.11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.11 [Like] golden apples in silver settings, [so] is a word spoken at the right time.11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.11 As apples of gold in pictures of silver, is a word spoken in season.
12 Like an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold Is a wise reprover to a listening ear.12 As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.12 [Like] a gold ring and a fine gold ornament, [so] is constructive criticism to the ear of one who listens.12 As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover to an obedient ear.12 An ear-ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, is a wise reprover upon an attentive ear.

15 By forbearance a ruler may be persuaded, And a soft tongue breaks the bone.15 By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.15 With patience you can persuade a ruler, and a soft tongue can break bones.15 By patience a ruler is persuaded. 16 Have you found honey? Eat only what you need, That you not have it in excess and vomit it.16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.16 When you find honey, eat only as much as you need. 18 Like a club and a sword and a sharp arrow Is a man who bears false witness against his neighbor.18 A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.18 [Like] a club and a sword and a sharp arrow, [so] is a person who gives false testimony against his neighbor.18 A man who gives false testimony against his neighbor is like a club, a sword, or a sharp arrow.18 A maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow, is a man that beareth false witness against his neighbour.
19 Like a bad tooth and an unsteady foot Is confidence in a faithless man in time of trouble.19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.19 [Like] a broken tooth and a lame foot, [so] is confidence in an unfaithful person in a [time of] crisis.19 Confidence in someone unfaithful in time of trouble is like a bad tooth, or a lame foot.19 A broken tooth, and a tottering foot, is confidence in an unfaithful man in the day of trouble.
20 Like one who takes off a garment on a cold day, or like vinegar on soda, Is he who sings songs to a troubled heart.20 As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.20 [Like] taking off a coat on a cold day or pouring vinegar on baking soda, so is singing songs to one who has an evil heart.20 As one who takes away a garment in cold weather, or vinegar on soda, so is one who sings songs to a heavy heart.20 As he that taketh off a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to a sad heart.

24 It is better to live in a corner of the roof Than in a house shared with a contentious woman.24 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.24 Better to live on a corner of a roof than to share a home with a quarreling woman.24 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than to share a house with a contentious woman.24 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a contentious woman, and a house in common.

26 Like a trampled spring and a polluted well Is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.26 A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.26 [Like] a muddied spring and a polluted well, [so] is a righteous person who gives in to a wicked person.26 Like a muddied spring, and a polluted well, so is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.26 A troubled fountain, and a defiled well, is a righteous man that giveth way before the wicked.
27 It is not good to eat much honey, Nor is it glory to search out one's own glory.27 It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.27 Eating too much honey is not good, and searching for honor is not honorable. 27 It is not good to eat much honey; nor is it honorable to seek one's own honor.27 It is not good to eat much honey; and to search into weighty matters is itself a weight.
28 Like a city that is broken into and without walls Is a man who has no control over his spirit.28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.28 [Like] a city broken into [and] left without a wall, [so] is a person who lacks self-control.28 Like a city that is broken down and without walls is a man whose spirit is without restraint.28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is as a city broken down, without walls.
